One song smart playlist?

How would I make a Smart Playlist that would only show just the tracks that I only own one song off an album ?
I have a lot of "one hit wonder" single songs from bands that I only own one track of. How would I find them?
I don't see how I can make iTunes check the number of tracks on an album.

Navarro,
You are correct.  This is not possible with iTunes Smart Playlist logic.
To do it manually, add "one hit wonder" to the Comments field of those songs.  You can then create a Smart Playlist to match on Comments contains one hit wonder.

No. The song is just copied once.

  • My "unrated songs" smart playlist plays the same song multiple times

I recently started using iTunes match, and was excited to have my smart playlist that contains songs I haven't rated yet sync from my MBP to my iPhone 4S. While I'm playing that playlist, I rate each song as I listen to it, but after it ends, it's replaying it. I have to hit skip sometimes 4 or 5 times before it will go to a new song in the playlist. Any ideas about what's causing this or how to fix it? Thanks!

    Hello there, greenstreetm.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some practical steps to use when troubleshooting an application stops responding:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

  • Adding one song to playlist

What I am currently doing (when I download a song and it is NOT going into itunes) is move the song to itunes, then search for it in my music library, then add it to a playlist. IS there an easier way to do this?
    Thanks!

When you add an MP3 to the library, the easiest way to find it is to sort your library by Date Added. The newest one will be right there at the top.
then add it to a playlist. IS there an easier way to do this?
Yes. If you drag the new MP3 into the open playlist, iTunes will simultaneously add it to the library and to that playlist.

  • Smart Playlist Song Order Problem on iPod Nano 6th G

recently i got an iPod Nano 6th G after years of using my iPod Classic 5.5G, and so far it has been a bliss actually if it wasnt for one small thing
i have a somewhat large collection of music that i have - with a few exceptions - put in one big smart playlist with the rules provided in the pic to fit my needs
on my old iPod Classic when i sync it i find it in the ipod in the same ordered that shows on my iTunes, but with my iPod Nano that is no longer the case.... even the the same playlist in my iPod have the songs in the exact order as it is in my library on iTunes, once i unblug it the play list on iPod becomes arranged alphabetically by artist and obviousely that is my problem
so if anyone could guid me to correct it or even the cause of it i'ld be very thankful

Can someone point me to a forum somewhere where I can get help with this? I'm obviously posting to the wrong place. Thanks!

  • Smart playlist on iphone doesn't display all songs in "list" view

So first, how I organize my mp3s, so you understand how I do things.
I have one "main" smart playlist that I use. It's only rule is to only include songs that are a part of a certain album.
I then edit every song I want in that playlist to be in that album.
In iTunes, this playlist has 136 songs. When I sync, ALL of them transfer, and ALL of them are on the phone.
When I play the playlist on the phone, ALL of them do play. I can cycle through all 136 of them.
My problem is this: When I enter the "playlist view" (I dont know what it's called, but THIS view: http://i.imgur.com/z4ZIK.jpg ), not all songs display anymore. I used to have all 136 songs displaying, and I could scroll to any of them to play. Now, its split up in chunks. What I mean by that is, maybe 20 songs are displayed, and if the playlist random shuffles to a song in the playlist but NOT part of that 20, that song may be a part of, say, 6 other songs in the playlist, or it may be solo in that view. All the songs still play, all 136, they're all still on the playlist and shuffle WILL play them all eventually, but they do NOT all appear in this "playlist view" (again, I dont know exactly what its called, but I'm talking about this screen: http://i.imgur.com/z4ZIK.jpg ). There also seems to be no pattern as to what songs are displayed. I have no idea why they're seperated in chunks like this.
Why don't all my 136 songs appear on this screen anymore? I thought maybe the phone or itunes is sorting them differently now, maybe by album art or something, so I made sure ALL songs are COMPLETELY IDENTICAL in terms of info aside from song name and artist name. ALL songs have the same artwork, album, album artist, grouping, composer, comments, they are ALL set to "part of a compliation" (I have also tried setting them all to NOT be part of complilation).
All I want is all 136 songs in my playlist to be displayed on that screen. It used to, but as of maybe a few months ago it started doing this. I'm not sure if I explained the problem correctly but that's the best I can do.

Well, the saga continues (some people must be getting a laugh at me talking to myself).
Turns out my PlayList which was supposed to read...
    - Genre is Ambient
    - Media Kind is Music
    - Last Play is not in the last 60 days
    - Limit to 1 hour selected by random
    - Live Updating
... actually said "- Last Play *is* in the last 60 days"
When I changed that and resync'd it worked, however it still doesn't explain why the two playlists (iTunes and iPod) were totally different.
Oh well.  Thanks for being my shrink for the day and letting me vent.

  • How do I create a smart playlist that automatically gets updated when I add songs to other specific playlists?

Basically I have a number of playlists containing specific types of songs, and also have an "All Songs" playlist that contains everything from these playlists. It would be really helpful if the songs I add to the smaller playlists could also be added to an "All Songs" smart playlist automatically. How would I do this? I tried to make a smart playlist by selecting "Playlist" "is" "[names of each playlist]." But nothing happened. Is there something more I'm supposed to do? I'm not really familiar with how smart playlists work, so I may be doing something wrong.
    Thank you!

I tried to make a smart playlist by selecting "Playlist" "is" "[names of each playlist]." But nothing happened.
Check up at the top of your smart playlist rule for "All Songs". Is it currently saying "Match all of the following rules"?
If so, change the all to any, as per the following screenshot:

  • How do I add a folder to the library into the smart playlist called "recently added"?

Hello Apple users! I really miss the old version of I-tunes that allowed you to manually add files and folders from your hard drive directly into individually created I-tunes playlists with nothing more than copy and paste. I don't mind that the new version requires some additional steps, like having to go through "add file/folder to library" onto a temporary "recently added" sub-master list, from which I could then transfer them to the sub-folder playlist categories afterwards...except that I can't! The I-Tunes Playlist window does not have a "recently added" category already there, so I have to manually create one ("new smart playlist"), and then create a set of "rules" to then have a writeable clean slate onto which each new "add file to library" could go...This works only for the first folder I add, but then after I copy them to their sub-folder destinations, I can't delete them to make room for the next batch, nor does the next batch even go in...I've then tried deleting the current "recently added" smart list and creating another, (with a new set of rules) , and then tried adding the next group using "add files to library", only to have the original batch come back up again and the new batch not...Apparently, I can add all the files and folders I want, but they only go to one place, which is the main master list under "library" and they all get mixed in together and are virtually impossible to find!
I have about 20 playlist folders on my C drive under "My Music"...How do I get them onto I-tunes anywhere except scrambled in random order?

I have about 20 playlist folders on my C drive under "My Music"...How do I get them onto I-tunes anywhere except scrambled in random order?
    Boca Babe,
Just add them to your iTunes library, and then sort as you wish.
Don't try to add things directly to Recently Added.  Recently Added will pick songs up automatically, e.g., all songs whose "Date Added" is in the last X weeks.
If you would like to add files or folders of songs directly to a playlist, create a regular playlist, not a smart playlist.  Then open it and drag the files/folders into it.  They will be added immediately to that playlist, and to your library if they are not already in it.

  • ITunes Match, iPad, and smart playlist issues.

I have one particular smart playlist, that iTunes Match correctly syncs to my Macs and my iPhone, but no matter what I try, it shows as "no songs" on my iPad. Both iDevices are running iOS 7.0.3.

    Hi zentralorgan,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you are trying to AirPlay from an iPad to multiple AirPlay outputs.  This feature requires iTunes on a computer, and cannot be done on an iOS device.  Since you have iTunes Match, your music should still be the same on your computer as your iPad.
    Listen through multiple speakers
With AirPlay and iTunes 10 or later, you can listen to music through your computer speakers and multiple AirPlay outputs.
The maximum number of outputs is three to six. The number that works for you depends on your environment (such as building composition and local radio interference), distance to the outputs, and available network capacity relative to your other usage.

  • Neither of my iPods are updating one of my playlists

The songs from the playlists are all copied over, but my one Smart Playlist WILL NOT transfer over. The playlist is there on one of my iPod's but there is no music in the playlist. The other 5th Gen iPod doesn't even have the playlist listed.
I've tried resetting the 3rd Generation iPod, but it hasn't cured the situation. I've tried changing the songs in the Smart Playlist and it still won't update. All my other playlists, including one other Smart Playlist transfer over no problem.
All my playlists include both protected and unprotected songs...its a real mystery. It only started after upgrading to iTunes 7.0. I have all the necessary software updates in place too. I upgraded to 7.01 iTunes and I still have the same problem. I have lots of room on both iPods too. This is super ******* me off and I'd really like help!! ANYONE!!!!

as much as i'd love to help, i have the same problem, but mine is only every so often, my ipod freezes when i plug it into my laptop, and then i have to reset it manually and it becomes corrupt, i'm about ready to go buy a zune, i got it for christmas last year, and it hasnt worked right since day one, and i hate to get a zune because i love my ipod, but try to reinstall the apple drivers from your device manager, just uninstall any usb driver that has to do with your ipod, and then reconnect your ipod and it should reinstall them automatically

  • Music crashes when loading a Smart Playlist

Whenever I try to load a Smart Playlist, it crashes the Music app. I tried making the playlist smaller, and it helped some, it's still extremely slow in opening - much more so than a much larger playlist I created myself. Worse, if it crashes while playing the playlist (if I can even get it to that point), Music can no longer be used until the playlist is removed and the phone resynced as it just crashes immediately.

I am having the same issue running iOS 5 on a 64gb iPhone 4S.
My Smart Playlists generally lag a little bit when loading, but one particular Smart Playlist, which is rather large, takes a long time to load.  If I don't do anything, it will load eventually, but we're talking a few minutes before it does.  Once I get it to load, it usually loads quicker if I leave the list and go back to it.
Reading other posts from folks having this same issue on their iPads, the general consensus seems to be a limitation of the processor.  The system has the criteria by which to identify all songs belonging to the playlist, so my guess is that when you pull it up, the list populates on the spot according to that criteria.  The bigger the list, the longer it takes.
Hopefully this is a bug that can be fixed in upcoming updates.

I uploaded my itunes and now my CD uploads are gone and my playlists I had created are gone.  How do I get them back?

  • Smart Playlist name (title) becomes blank occasionally

I have noticed that, on occasion, one particular Smart playlist (that I listen to the most) will suddenly have the name go blank. The playlist is still there on my iPod & in my iTunes, all the songs are still there, but the name is blank. I've checked the iTunes XML file and it is blank in the <string/> tag.
For completeness, the name of the Smart Playlist is "Random & Excluded" and the conditions are that (a) no songs played within the past 7 days and (b) My Rating is not one star. Checked "Match ALL conditions" and "Live Updating"
The only solution I've found is to delete the playlist and create a new one.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
    iTunes v. 6.0 (17)
    iPod 20GB generation 4 (I think)

Me Too! I see no way to rename a playlist. The obvious thing would be Get Info on the playlist, but that just displays the playist filter dialog. Sounds like a bug to me...

  • Transfer my iTunes Match music to my iPhone? But not one song at a time...

But instead of downloading to my iPhone one song or playlist at a time, via wifi or cell phone network  (would take forever and exceed data limitations), I'd like to just connect iPhone to computer via cable.  Is there any way to do this?  The usual method, syncing, doesn't work since I got Match.  Thanks.

On the iPhone turn off iTunes Match then open the Music app and let the content clear out. Then connect to your computer via USB, sync, then turn iTunes Match back on. You see the alert about content being deleted, but it won't.

  • One smart playlist displays wrong songs on iphone 5 since ios7 / itunes 11.1.4.62

About a month ago I updated my iPhone 5 to ios7 and this week I updated my iTunes to 11.1.4.62.
Yesterday I noticed that one of my playlists I haven’t listened to on my iPhone in a long time was not working properly at all. It is a smart playlist that I’ve used successfully for a long time and it is syncing correctly to my 4th Gen iPod Touch (ios 6), which makes me think the problem is with the iPhone/ ios7. On the phone, it did not contain the correct songs and most of the tracks had a little “cloud” symbol next to them; they would not play, but I was invited to “download” them, which I did not attempt as I was not on wifi at the time.
This morning I have spent some time experimenting to get that playlist with the correct songs to sync from iTunes on my laptop to the iPhone without success. In between the changes (below) I have executed
    Basic re-sync
Powering the phone off and on
    Closing and re-opening iTunes
The changes I’ve tried have included
Unticking the playlist, syncing the iPhone to remove the playlist from the phone, re-ticking the playlist and re-syncing the phone (the contents of the playlist were still wrong on the phone despite appearing correctly in iTunes, both in iTunes’s own version of the playlist and how the phone’s version of the playlist displayed in iTunes whilst connected)
Deleting the playlist in iTunes, repeating above steps having recreated the smart playlist in iTunes before the resync.
I have only been able to get the songs I want in a playlist on the iPhone by creating a new playlist that is not smart from the contents of the smart playlist, then unticking the smart playlist and ticking/syncing the new unsmart playlist instead. Other smart playlists are syncing fine. Please note that my iPhone has over 6500 tracks on it, so completely removing and resyncing the entire lot would not be an option I’d want to look at. I cannot see that the random songs populating the problem playlist on the iphone have anything in common – they are a mix of purchased music and tracks from CDs. All are in my iTunes on my laptop – I don’t have any music stored solely in the cloud.
I have checked all my settings both on the phone and in iTunes, including those for iCloud and cannot see that I have set up anything that would be causing this. Can anyone help please?
