One Step from iMovie - compressor setting

I thought that One Step would always use the default preferences for encoding. I have a 110 min iMovie and prefs set to Best Performance. I get the message "won't fit" when using a trivial menu, but when I use One Step it works. Is One Step temporarily using another encoding setting and if so, which one?

Best Performance will only handle 60 minute playing time. You'll need to use Best Quality or Professional Quality (if the movie has fast motion scenes in it) to get the 110 minute movie burned.

  • IDVD 6- One Step  and IMOVIE

I had no trouble downloading video from my Sony Handycam when I was using Panther. Now that I've upgraded to Tiger, I can't seem to get a download to work either on IDVD or IMOVIE. I'm using a firewire and doing everything I did previously with Panther.
I tried to do IDVD One Step and get this message after just a few seconds of "capturing video"-- " No video has been captured. Aborting One Step DVD creation"
When I try IMOVIE I get a blank screen with no clips showing up even if I leave the camera running for an hour.
I've tried disconnecting the camera and restarting the computer with the same results.

I had this problem as well. What I did was put the camcorder in "Playback" or "VCR" mode and pressed the play button on the camcorder so the tape would start rolling playing footage. While it is playing, all i had to do was click the OneStep DVD and it started recording.

  • How does one transfer from imovie to fce without loss of quality. Using a panasonic hdc-tm15 full hd 1920x1080

I am capturing my footage on a Panasonic hdc-tm15 full hd 1920x1080 avchd. The format recorded is not compatible with fce so i have to import to imovie first. what export settings do i need to use to ensure i dont lose quality when going from imovie to fce?

It is suggested to output MOV with AIC codec to keep the raw video quality at max.
Output like this: Share->Export Using QuickTime..
In pop-up windows, click Options->in Moive Settings pop-up window, click Settings button->In Compression Type box, choose Apple Intermediate Codec
    Good luck.

  • How to load files up one step from local working directory

    Good afternoon,
I have a project assigned to me that has some Ni TestStand code written to read files from a fixed directory and I would like to change this directory to be the directory where the TestStand seqeunce file is located.
Furthermore, I would like to be able to step back one directories and forward into a different directory. Is this possible? I know in linux his is done with ..\ preceeding the directory location
I want ot do this for variables in TestStand and also for pats in LabView.
Cna somebody provide me with the correct syntax, for example if
    my seq file is C:\User\Test\myseq.seq
and I want to open an ini file located in
    C:\Config\config.ini
Should I save the path for the variable as
    ..\..\Config\config.ini ??
    Thanks,
    -D

    1) If you want to use a relative path that is resolved the same way as a module path (i.e. using the teststand search directories where looking in the same directory as the sequence file is one of the default possibilities) you can do something like the following:
    FindFile("..\\Config\\Config.ini", True, Locals.absolutePath)
    2) RunState.SequenceFile.Path actually includes the sequence file's name, so if you want to build a path from that you would need to do something like the following to parse out the part of the path you care about (though maybe an extra ".." instead of doing this parsing works to get past the file name too, I've never tried that. Perhaps either way is fine.):
    Locals.absolutePath = Left(RunState.SequenceFile.Path, Find(RunState.SequenceFile.Path, "\\", 0, False, True) + 1) + "..\\Config\\Config.ini"
    3) Whether or not you need to build an absolute path or can use a relative path depends on what you are doing with the path, if you provide more details on what you are doing with the path we can let you know. In general, you should not use a relative path when calling a win32 API.  See the remarks section of the following where it says, "Multithreaded applications and shared library code should not use the GetCurrentDirectory function and should avoid using relative path names.":
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa364934%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
Though if you are calling a TestStand API then a relative path might be ok, depending on the API call, because some teststand APIs can use the TestStand search directory algorithm to resolve the path (basically the equivalent of 1 above).
    Hope this helps,

  • ONE STEP HELP

I started to do a One Step From my DV Cam to DVD. I thought i had enough space on my HD but evidently that was not the case. I got a disk full message so i hit the stop button on iDVD. It did not stop so I had to Force Quit. iDVD seemed to have used up to 5 gig of my Hard Drive and for the life of me i cannot find the iDVD One Step DVDPROJ on my drive. I did spotlight.. and nothing. Any Idea on where the file might be/

OK. Normally iDvd does generate temporary folder for One Step. But I found a work around. I did some testing of my own within One Step iDvd to see if there is a way to tweak iDvd'08 to create a captured folder to the desktop. To my surprise, the answer is Yes ... you can do this under "Advanced" preference settings apparently. But you cannot address these preferences within one step itself or while One step is actually launched. However, you should be able to address these advanced preference settings while any of the other types of Dvd's are selected or launched. Quit iDvd and then launch One Step again. It will make a QT file ... Should generate a .mov to the desktop that looks something like this:
I took pictures of my desktop during the entire process in a step-by-step procedure that follows:
Click on "change" and set the location to the desktop.
(It's worth noting you can address multiple copies of a 1 step w/in iDvd itself after the first copy is completed/burned).
Hope these steps are helpful but if not just come on back. And Good luck!

  • Importing from iMovie 06, lose capture dates

When I import old iMovie 06 movies, the capture dates gets lost. Here is one of the original clips in iMovie 06:
However, after importing in iMovie 11, the capture dates are lost.  I tried many variations, like import the iMovie 06 project, or cd to the *.iMovieProject directory and import the actual clips, etc.
Now, good iMovie11 clips have the capture date imbedded in the file name (as in clip-2010-03-14 hh;mm;ss.dv).  However, the ones imported from iMovie 06 end up in iMovie 11 with simple names such as clip55.dv.  So it's not surprising I cannot see the capture dates in iMovie 11.
So I looked inside the *.iMovieProject directory hoping to find the capture dates either in the file name or in a plist, but I couldn't (nothing in the plists below)
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Thumbnails.plist
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Timeline Movie Data.plist
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Timeline Movie.mov
    ... Nov  8  2009 Media/Clip55.dv
    etc
Finally, I opened Clip55.dv in QuickTime and looked at MovieInspector, but I could not see any capture date (similar to exif in jpegs).
So obviously I missed them. My question is where in the iMovie 06 project can I find them?   If accessible, I can write a script to fix the clips imported in iMovie11 by changing their names. I tried it manually, and it worked.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi - Couple of things.
Click on the offending clip that you imported from iMovie in your FCP Bin and type Command + 9 to see the item properties. Either report those item properties, or if easier, take a screen shot of the item properties and post that.
Then click any where on the timeline you are having trouble with and type Command + 0 (Zero) to see the sequence settings. Either report those settings or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings window and post that.
In order for FCP to use the video without rendering, both the items properties of the source clip, and the sequence settings must match - and both must be within standard production parameters.
Also, you can click on the source clip in the FCP Bin, then control-click on the clip and select Reveal in Finder from the drop down menu. Once that file is revealed, open it in Quicktime 7 and see if if plays correctly there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using a set from one dimension to filter a set on another dimension without using the slicer

I have a complex mdx query.  In one step within this I want to restrict the members of one set to those that have data in the cells defined by this first set and a second set on a different dimension.  It is not the values in those intersection
cells I want to end up with but just the restricted members of the first set.  I am then going to cross join this with the 'All' member of the second set.  The point of doing this is that the results can be joined with a union query to other results
    with the same dimensionality.
I get what I want, in simplified way, from the following:
    with set x as filter([Org].[Dept].[Dept].members,
    [Proj].[ProjHierarchy].[Proj].&[100028])
select [Measures].[Finance] on columns, x on rows from projects
This shows the total finance for each dept member that has any finance against the specified project.  However, this won't do as what is supplied to the mdx is a string parameter that is converted to a list of members using StrToSet and the MDX above won't
accept this.  I do not wish to use the slicer because of the complex overall MDX structure.  Is there any way to make something like the above work?

    Hi Kenneth
does this set have the required dimensionality? :
    extract(
    nonempty(
    ( [Org].[Dept].[Dept].members
    , [Proj].[ProjHierarchy].[Proj].&[100028])
    , [Measures].[Finance])
    ,[Org].[Dept] )
I'm not sure about the hierachy on the last line. Maybe:   [Org].[Dept].[Dept]

  • Sound missing from half of One Step DVD

I have tried a couple times to make a one step DVD directly from my mini DV tape camera. I've done this plenty before and do not know why, but this time the sound is missing from the last half of the DVD. It is on the tape, but not the DVD.

    Hi
    My list on this.
    *No audio on DVD disc.*
    Most common origin.
    1 Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
    • Use this in Your movie project
2 Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
3 Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    4. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple Disk Util tool
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • IDVD: Files exported from iMovie 11, one works, one "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format"

I used footage from the same camera (taken on the same weekend using the same settings) in several different iMovie "projects". All were shared from iMovie 11 as "File" using the quality setting "SD 480p".
In Quicktime Player, all ".mp4" files will play and they show the following info in its inspector:
    Format: H.264, 854 x 480
                  AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    FPS: 29.97
One exported file will drag, drop, and burn in iDVD just fine. The other two files show the error "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format" as soon as I try and drag them into iDVD.
The only difference I can find is that the one file that works is about 803MB, while the files that don't work are 1.87GB and 3.98GB.
All files and the iDVD project are in the same folder on my startup volume. I've tried deleting com.apple.idvd but that didn't help. I've tried rebooting and starting the iDVD project from scratch but I get the same results.
    Mac OS 10.9.1
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2
    Any ideas?

Hello Bengt and thank you again for the replies.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'm using iMovie 10.0.1 which has very limited quality adjustments. In every case I chose the smallest size, which iMovie 10.0.1 calls "SD 480p (854 x 480)". I used this same setting on all exports.
I still have iMovie HD (6.0.4) and iMovie '11 (9.0.9) on my iMac so I tried both of them. In both cases, they could import only the file that works in iDVD. Both older versions of iMovie choked on the longer movies shared from iMovie 10.0.1.
I have many many hours into the editing of these clips and I do not want to have to go back and redo everything in an older version of iMovie. Might I be better off going with a different DVD creation software? Or am I out of luck? Because I can't really change iMovie 10.0.1's export settings, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to get it to export it as something that iDVD can use (really, I can't even tell why it's different and why iDVD doesn't like it).
The software "WonderShare DVD Creator" has no issue with any of the files I've exported from iMovie 10.0.1.

  • Imovie to one step idvd transfer

I used the easy imovie option to transfer 60 minutes of minidvd data to an external hard drive..it seems to play well..However when I then transferred the movie to one step idvd, the sound track did not transfer..or rather the track is garbled..Is there a limit to the size of the imovie..or is it the external hd that is the problem.
    Thank you

Several ways to try to fix things:
    1) Import into iMovie and "extract audio" then try again, or even export after extracting audio to full quality DV - and use that file in iDVD.
    2) Import to iMovie. Set your camera back to 16bit in VCR mode, and then export to tape. Then re-import into iMovie.
    Or these:

BTW I don't think any version of iDVD liked 12 bit audio......

  • What is the best compressor setting to use ... when exporting a 720p timeline from FCP for a project that will only be played back in a standard def monitor?

What is the best compressor setting to use for DVD StudioPro ... when exporting a 720p 30 timeline from FCP for a project that will only be viewed in a standard def monitor?

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • FCP7 Taking an mp3 file (sound effect from imovie library to compressor then import to FCP7

I am clicking and dragging from iMovie sound effects into FCP7 in it's original format mp3 then I am sending it to compressor and using a 48-16 codec
to compress it then I am going back to FCP7 and trying to import it but it does not show up on either my internal drive or external drive. Am I missing something? I have done this all before. Thanks.

    Hi
I'm much more lazy - as I have one way to handle Audio and it always works for my projects.
    • I convert all to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit - or use Audio-CDs .aiff 44.1kHz
Everything I convert to this - by use of the free program - Audacity
or from iTunes - by burning out on an Audio CD (still .aiff - no .mp3 or ect)
These files works greatly in all my Movie/DVD projects.

  • Basic steps: exporting to (reimporting from) iMovie HD or JES deinterlacer

It's probably basic, but could you please detail the steps for using getting a clip from iMovie 08 to iMovie HD or JES Interlacer? I don't want to loose significant quality. One post recommended going back to the source camcorder and reimporting into iMovie HD. That isn't very practical for me.
I have selected multiple short clips from larger clips within the Event viewer and have moved those short clips into a new project. What are the best, specific steps to get these into JES (and iMovie HD).
    Thanks
    Marc

It's probably basic, but could you please detail the steps for using getting a clip from iMovie 08 to iMovie HD or JES Interlacer?... What are the best, specific steps to get these into JES (and iMovie HD).
    iMovie HD
    1) Open iMovie HD
    2) Navigate to the appropriate "iMovie Events" folder and open the iMovie '08 named_Event folder.
    3) Drag the file you want from the named_Event folder to the iMovie HD window and drop it to import it.
Some file formats (e.g., MPEG-2 content converted to the equivalent of an M-JPEG file) may be problematic. (I.e., I have not tested this example and am not sure what would happen.) Other files (e.g., DV and AIC/AIFF) should import ready for editing. And still other files (e.g., H.264/AAC) will have to be automatically converted as part of the copy/import process for editing in iMovie HD.
    JES Deinterlacer
Basically the same. Only this time drop the source file on the JES Deinterlacer Finder icon. This should open the JES application and auto-load the source file reference.

  • Importing XLM from iMovie one audio track

    Can someone please help me?
When I import my XLM file from iMovie into FCP and open it ... I get one audio track.
This is really weird because in iMovie it's stereo and even the videos in QT are stereo.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Michael,
Yes, sorry. I'm using version 4.5, I've not seen this problem before.
I tried extracting and then importing the track in again but that didn't work. I can extract it to a separate clip but there is a lot of editing to be done with lots of changes and continually having to edit a second track would make the job longer.
I was hoping to find a solution in QuickTime where I could change the track ID.
Any thoughts on the version I'm using?

  • One Step DVD From VCR Patched Through Mini-DV

I guess the One Step method only works with Device Control inputs?
I've got my VCR patched through my MiniDV camera, and a Firewire cable to the Mac. When I choose One Step DVD, it looks for a tape in my camera. But I can capture in FCP with this same setup.
I guess iDVD 5.0 won't let me capture this way? I don't see any preferences I can change.
Also, is there a maximum length of capture in iDVD 5.0?
    Thanks!

I guess the One Step method only works with Device Control inputs?
Yep - OneStep will not work witout timecode.
    from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300735
Note: OneStep DVD will only capture from recorded tape on a DV camcorder or deck. OneStep DVD will not work with analog-to-DV converters. It will also not work if you are using your camcorder or deck as a pass-through device to digitize from an analog souce (such as VHS or Hi-8). In order to function, OneStep DVD reads the timecode from your DV tape and it relies on DV device control to communicate with the camera or deck.
