One to Many / Cruise ship site

Hi, I am developing an e commerce site for a cruise ship company as part of a project for my college degree.
In my database I have some tables as follows:
create table cruisebooking (
cruise_id number,
cruise_dest varchar2(20),
cruise_date date,
cabin_number number,
cabin_avail integer,
FOREIGN KEY(cruise_id)
REFERENCES cruisedetails(cruise_id)
create table cruisedetails (
cruise_id number primary key,
cruise_name varchar2(20),
cruise_date date,
cruise_month varchar(15),
cruise_dest varchar2(20),
noofdays number,
cruise_price float
I want to have 10 cabins associated with each cruise for booking.
There is only one ship with 10 cabins so . .
cruise 1 will have 10 cabins
cruise 2 will have 10 cabins and so on . . .
How do I make it so that each cruise will have 10 cabins? So if cruise 1 is selected the user moves to the cabin reservation page and chooses a cabin (1-10) for that cruise!
I would like any help on this PLEASE !!! Thank you !

You need to have a separate entity CABIN. There are attributes for each CABIN eg (single/double/suite), location (port/starboard), class (first/steerage) etc. CRUISEBOOKING them becomes an intersection table between CABIN and CRUISEDETAILS.
Incidently cruise_dest and cruise_dest don't belong on CRUISEBOOKING - you've got them on CRUISEDETAILS. That is what we call normalisation.
You probably do what to have another entity PASSENGER which also intersects with CRUISEBOOKING. You can work out its attributes for yourself ;)
To answer your question:
How do I make it so that each cruise will have 10 cabins?The easiest way to do this is programmatically. When you create a new record for CRUISEDETAILS you create ten new CRUISEBOOKING records, with cabin availability = Y. (As I type this I start to have doubts about the name of this table and hence your entire data model but I don't really want to open that particular can of worms). Anyway, looking at this I think you might want to have these details stored in two tables (SHIP and CABINTYPE) even though you've only got one ship at the moment.
If you do go down that route you will need to use a stored procedure. If you want to hardcode the one ship/ten cabin model you could get away with a BEFORE INSERT trigger on CRUISEDETAILS. Note that this is implementation. I think you should flesh out your data model before you go think about such things.
You may be wondering why you have to do this programmatically. This is because of the nature of SQL and relational integrity. We can enforce the rule that every child record must have a parent but we cannot enforce the obverse rule, that every parent must have a child. (well actually there are workarounds but you really don't want to go there).
Cheers, APC

    "Did you make the .psd file with a transparent background (checkerboard) in Photoshop? And when you placed it in AI did you choose the top option Convert Photoshop Layers to Objects?"
    Yep, and it still didn't work.
    But I figured what I did wrong: I was selecting both the text and the heart, and then I was doing the whole Object>Wrap Text>Make thing, as opposed to just selecting the heart and doing it. Once I did it, I moved the heart around on top of the text, and it "made room" for the pic, wrapping itself around the heart.
    Thanks so much, and thanks A MILLION for being so patient.

  • Using a PowerBook on a cruise ship

    Hi everyone,
    I'm currently on board Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas and frustrated because I can't use my PowerBook to connect to its WIFI service. I've found other frustrated PowerBook and iBook owners with the same problem and the help desk keeps saying the network is only for computers running Windows.
    I know from reading cruise-related message boards that other Mac users have been able to use the WIFI service. I'm hoping there is someone on here who has had success doing that and can post the network configuration, if they can remember.
    Thanks in advance!

    What are the instructions for windows users? we can
    start there and see if we can talk you through the
    set-up. There aren't windows only networks.. just ill
    informed network techs
    You also might want to try the airport forums:

    Don't let this ruin your vacation.. go out and get
    some sun for those of us here at work
    Thanks, Sandman, for the quick response but my Internet minutes ran out shortly after my post. I'm back on shore now and had a great cruise despite the inability to get my PowerBook connected.
    There were no instructions for getting online... they said launching a browser would automatically connect you to their WIFI service and you just had to log in.
    It was very frustrating for myself and two iBook owners who specifically brought our laptops after reading from other cruise-ship passengers who reported successfully they were able to use their Macs on board.
    The ship's IT staff repeated their system only supports Windows -- which is a crock, as you suggested -- and wouldn't even try to help out a Mac user. One fellow cruise passenger said the IT guy she spoke to had a look of horror on his face when "Mac" was brought into the conversation.
    No doubt Royal Caribbean does not wish to support Mac computers and therefore tells people plainly that their system does not work with Macs. It's ironic that its corporate web site is designed to work with Safari.
    Myself and the other Mac users that were on board plan to write letters/e-mail and complain about the lack of support for Mac users.
    Thanks again for your reply. I didn't even think to post my question on the Airport forum, which would've been more appropriate.
    Cheers!

  • Cruise Ship Mode?  (Phone off, WiFi on)

    How do I turn OFF the cell phone (EDGE) function but leave WiFi on?
    Airplane mode turns off both. We are taking a cruise through foreign ports and I do NOT want the EDGE connection to international roaming but I do want the WiFi on to connect to the cruise ship's on board network.
    Cany anyone tell me how to do this?

    Here is one other option for you or other world travelers.
    AT&T offers international roaming for iPhones
    Horror stories of four-digit cellphone bills after taking the iPhone abroad need not repeat themselves, says a second report from Ars Technica.
    In a simple reminder, the site points out that AT&T's iPhone Center provides information on the carrier's World Traveler service that lowers calling and data rates substantially for subscribers who regularly expect to travel abroad. The service typically costs $6 per month on top of the existing iPhone bill.
    Users anxious about data charges while abroad were also reminded that Apple's third iPhone update is expected to allow disabling of the EDGE cellular Internet connection without cutting off phone access, as with today's Airplane Mode.
    This was taken from this article:
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/09/26/brieflynew_nbc_shows_appear_apple_storeredesign.html
    ....OR...You could wait for the update sometime this century, that is suppose to give you the ability to turn "OFF" edge.
    Hope that helps
    Good Luck and enjoy your vacation!

  • Recharge abroad? on cruise ship??

    Can I recharge my original iPhone, bought in the US, using a 220 outlet with an appropriate plug adapter? or do I need a converter, as well?? How about using the "razor outlet" in a bathroom, either in London or on a cruise ship??

    Cruise ships typically have at least one normal socket in the cabin. Do take an extension cord.

  • Cruise ship info anyone?

    Does anyone have any experience using an iPod touch on a cruise ship yet, with respect to Wi-Fi connectivity? I was curious if you can get any Wi-Fi conection on a Florida-Caribbean ship.
    Thx

    I don't know what's your cruise company. But for example, Royal Caribbean that actually make Caribbean cruises has Wi-Fi connection.
    The cost is:
    Base rate is $.50 per minute or choose from one of their prepaid packages:
    $25.00 for 60 minutes
    $35.00 for 90 minutes
    $50.00 for 150 minutes
    However, they also inform that you'll need a laptop, Windows operating system
    and 802.11b Wireless networking capability to use their Wi-Fi access.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPad Use on Cruise Ships

    We have a Princess Cruise booked for mid May and wonder if we should
    take the MBP or the iPad.  I have heard cruise ship internet is as slow
    as old dialup and pretty expensive..
    Can you pop mail from a cruise ship or do you only have access to
    web mail accounts?

    It's slow, VERY slow.  On Carnival, I paid $100 for a set number of minutes (can't remember how many).  Receiving mail via POP will drag on forever.  I simply remoted to my computer at home, opened Outlook and downloaded my mail, or used Webmail.  This was via a PC though.  But an iPad sould be able to connect just the same.
    I had my iPad, but it was just for entertainment.  Wifey and I love playing scrabble on it in the evening, and on the plane rides.

    Debug level Hibernate log excerpt:
    Included in the above description.

    That's not the right mapping for the 1:m relationship in Hibernate.
    First of all, I believe the recommendation is to have a separate .hbm.xml file for each class, so you should have one for Parent and Child.
    Second, you'll find the proper syntax for a one-to-many relationship here:
    http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/v3/reference/en/html/tutorial.html#tutorial-associations
    See if those help.
    The tutorial docs for Hibernate are quite good. I'd recommend going through them carefully.

  • ONE-to-MANY relationship between tables and forms in APEX

    I recently started using APEX and I have run into an issue.
    I have a ONE-TO-MANY relationship between two tables, A1 and A2, respectively.
    A1:
    A1_ID
    Item
    A2:
    A2_ID
    SubItem
    A1_ID
    I have 2 forms (lets call it F1 and F2) that I use to capture data for A1 and A2.
    On F2, I have the following fields that are setup to capture data:
         A2.A1_ID
    **A1.Item (this is a drop down that is populated using a SELECT statement where the select uses A1.Item field)
         A2.SubItem (user would enter SubItem)
    Note: A2.A2_ID is populated using a SEQ
    Everytime I pick **A1.Item on F2, is there a way to link to A1 table and display A1.A1_ID for every **A1.Item selected on F2?
    If so, I want to store the value captured in F2 for the A1_ID field into A2 table to maintain my 1-to-MANY relationship.
    If this will work, how do I go about implementing this solution?
    Can someone help me?

    I think it sounds like you are asking for a Master-Detail form. Try that and see what you get.
    chris.

  • How to resolve many-to-many join by 2 one-to-many joins

       I was asked many times how to resolve many to many relationship between two tables. I read to use 2 one -to- many relationships to resolve this. Can some expalin me when many to many relationship occurs between two tables and how to reslove them with practicle examples. Is there any article on this?

  • Urgent : java bean having bidirectional one to many relationship

    Hi,
    We have complex requirement in our application.
    We need to copy java bean having bidirectional one to many relationship to another javabean having bidirectional one to many relationship..
    E.g
    Class Basket1 {
    public String color;
    pubic String type;
    public List<Basket1> basketList = new ArrayList()
    Class Basket2 {
    public String color;
    pubic String type;
    public List<Basket2> basketList = new ArrayList()
    We need to exact copy Basket1 to Basket2. We are in trouble to copy List of child because we do not have how many child Basket1 have of same type..
    Can someone help us how we can implement such kind of complex object bidirectional one to many relationship??

    I can't see anything bidirectional about these relationships. What I can see is a couple of BasketN classes that look identical so I don't know why they both exist, and they both contain lists of themselves as members, which suggests some kind of tree structure. Nothing bidirectional there. I can see tat these things can form circular object graphs but I don't see why you would want to do that.
    We need to exact copy Basket1 to Basket2And I don't know what that means. Please explain.

  • One to Many table join -- concat field per record grouped by id

    Post Author: wm5
    CA Forum: Formula
    Hello,
    I am using Crystal Reports XI and have two tables that have a one to many relationship and are joined by an JobID (number).
    Below is a sample with relative fields for each table.
    job_table: JobID (number), Manager (text), Status (text)
    jobaudit_table : JobAuditID (number), JobID (Number), FormID (Number)
    There is a one to many relationship with jobaudit_table having multiple records for each JobID in job_table.
    I have created a Group Header using the job_table.JobID and suppressed the detail section.
    In the group header for each JobID I display the JobID, Manager, Status. I also use the below formula to determine if any records in the jobaudit_table has a record where FormID = 90. If so, I display "Yes". If not, "No".
    So my report currently looks like.
    JobID     Manager     Status     Audit Performed
    1           Manager 1  Closed           N
    2          Manager 2   Closed           Y
    Here are the formula's I use to determine if any records in jobaudit_table contains a record where FormID = 90.
    @ja90exists
    if {jobaudit_table.FormID} = 90 then    1else    0;
    if sum({@ja90exists},{job_table.JobID}) = 0 then    "No"else    "Yes";
    Everything so far works fine. What I would like to do now is add a hyperlink to a script to view the job audit when in the above report the "Audit Performed" column is "Yes"
    So Report is now:
    JobID     Manager     Status     Audit Performed
    1           Manager 1  Closed           N
    2          Manager 2   Closed           Y (hyperlink to view audit)
    I cannot figure out how to gather the valid JobAuditIDs where FormID = 90 grouped by JobID to be used in the Group Heading section of the report.
    Also, it is unlikely, but possible that more than one job_audit record exists with FormID = 90 per JobID. So, my hyperlink could look like http://mysite.com/viewjobaudit.aspx?jobid=[jobaudit_table.JobAuditID],[jobaudit_table.JobAuditID] .
    Thanks for any help. And if this post is not clear let me know and I will clarify.

    Although I can't think of a way to get multiple hyperlinks, this should be a start.  It (should) hyperlink to the last job/audit in the group that formID of 90.  Oh, I assumed that the hyperlink should have been  xxxx...jobID,jobAuditID!
    I think there may be a way of getting hyperlinks to every "90" record, but that will involve a subreport, so lets try this first...
    1 - everything from your group header to the group footer...
    2 -  add a formula into the group header that says:
    whileprintingrecords;
    stringvar jobauditID="";
    stringvar jobID:=";
    3 - Then add a formula to the details section:
    whileprintingrecords;
    stringvar jobauditID;
    stringvar jobID;
    if {jobaudit_table.FormID} = 90
    then (jobID:=totext({job_table.job_id},0,""); jobauditID:=totext({jobaudit_table.jobaudit_id},0,"")
    4 - Finally, on your "Audit Performed" formula, have a conditional hyperlink that says:
    whileprintingrecords;
    stringvar jobauditID;
    stringvar jobID;
    if {@audit performed} = "Y" then http://mysite.com/viewjobaudit.aspx?jobid=jobID","+jobauditID
