One tough Shuffle

Last night when I finished running, I laid my Shuffle on my bumper while I changed shoes. I got busy talking and forgot it when I left. This morning I realized what I had done so I looked for it on my way to work. I didn't find it. But, on my way home at lunch I retraced my route and there it was. I lost it when I made the turn home at a STOP sign. It had been in the road for about 16 hours. It had been run over at least once. The ear buds were completely mangled, but the Shuffle is still working. The clip is bent and the case is scratched, but the unit still plays. The clip still works too.
Thanks Apple for a quality product.

DO NOT PLUG IT IN!!
Put it in a ZipLoc bag with white rice and leave it there for three or more days. The rice will soak up the moisture...
Otherwise, if you're adept, you can open it up using the following directions:

Then you can use compressed air to blow dry it.

I have one ipod shuffle synced in itunes on my computer but it won't even recognize a second ipod

Is the second iPod also a shuffle, or is it a "big" iPod?  If they are both shuffles, what are the two shuffle types?  This document shows the four types of shuffles.

  • Can you have more than one iPod shuffle in one copy of iTune

    Hi,
I've bought an iPod shuffle each for my two daughters, since they live with their mum I won't be able to set them up for them, anyway, they will be using them on a W2K PC, I am wondering, can you have two iPods set up on the one copy as it were, of iTunes?
Someone at the Apple store said they'll have to set up two windows users (they all share one login) and login separately, in order for their two libraries to remain separate, with their two ipods? Or is it as simple as creating two libraries, and naming the two iPods separately?

    Hi Angela.
Welcome to discussions. If you want to ask a question which is totally different from the one which started the topic, then it is best to start a new topic. That way you stand more chance of getting an answer more quickly.
Plug your shuffle in. Open iTunes (it will probably open automatically). The shuffle will appear in the source list of iTunes. Click the name of your shuffle (in the list). There is a grey bar (at the bottom of iTunes). Make sure that "replace all songs when Autofilling" and "choose songs randomly" are not selected. Then just put the songs on the shuffle that you want and delete any that are already on there that you don't( drag and drop / delete). Then the next time you plug it in, it won't make any changes automatically.
Basically as long as you never push autofill, then your shuffle should not start doing things of its own accord. So just get the songs you want on there via the drag and drop method (the only method for manual selection). Then never push autofill again.

  • Two computers, one ipod shuffle

Can I use my shuffle to carry itunes back and forth from home to my work computer? I installed Itunes on my work computer today, thinking I could just treat my ipod as a storage device, dragging my library off the ipod over to the work desktop. it didn't work. can I do it? how?
    thanks for the guidance...

    Ron,
Don't know if this helps, but I have a similar problem. I just want to connect my shuffle to two different computers. There's quite a few articles that make it clear that the shuffle can only be associated with one at a time, so when you plug it in to one computer you have to lose all the data you had on it from before. That's a pain but if that's how it works, I can live with it. But after I move the shuffle over it all looks ok in iTunes but then, like you, I get no audio.
I did make it recover from this once but wasn't really sure how. I'd be interested if you got any further with your problem.

  • One iPod shuffle on two computers

Is there any way to use my iPod shuffle both on my desktop Mac and my iBook? Take this scenario: I fill my iPod shuffle about half full of music on my Mac Mini. Then, I grab my iBook and go on the road. While on vacation, I buy a new CD, or perhaps purchase a few songs from the iTunes music store. I import the CD into my iBook, and then wish to put it, or the purchased music, on my iPod shuffle. If I connect the shuffle to the iBook, it'll say something about the shuffle being linked to a different library and that continuing would wipe all the music off of it! All other iPod's I've used can be put into "manual" mode and this works fine, not to mention songs can be played directly from the iPod - the shuffle has to "think different" it seems. Is there a way to actually accomplish this, or would I then be forced to wait until I get home to load more music on the shuffle?
I can hear someone already saying, just use your iBook for all your music. Nope, because I don't want to take out my iBook every time I want to listen to some music, nor do I want to manually be shuffling songs back and forth between iTunes libraries.

The conspiracy theory for not having "manual" mode on the shuffle is that it's the cheapest iPod and "manual" mode somehow makes it easier to copy music from the shuffle to the host computer. I find that unlikely because it's just easy to get music of all the iPod models as long as you know what you're doing.
There are progams that let you update the shuffle manually. They are easier than the alternative (copy the files to the iBook, load them into iTunes, update the iPod with the songs).

  • 80 GB - One Tough iPod!

Bought the new 80 GB iPod on Sunday; on Monday, while on a late-night walk with the iPod, I got mugged. Ended up dropping the iPod onto hard concrete, and after the guys ran away (with my almost-empty wallet, but leaving the day-old $350 iPod) I figured the iPod was toast.
Nope. The headphone jack was busted, snapped clean off, but the iPod itself was perfectly fine--in fact it kept playing through the whole adventure. It probably helped that I had the lock on when the robbery started, but still, I have to say I'm impressed. Now I just have to see if my credit card's purchase protection will get me replacement headphones.
A word of warning to fellow iPoders, though: turns out that walking around empty streets late at night with a bright white iPod in your hand might just raise your profile as a potential victim. I walk these streets all the time; the first time I took the iPod along, this happened. Lesson learned.

I think it all has to do with how you're perceived when you're out there: as I said, I do late-night walks all the time, and I have good street awareness, plus I'm tall. But my guess is that having the iPod changed me from a tall guy with his eyes open to some shlub strolling around listening to music and not really paying attention to what's going on. The cops think that my muggers drove by, spotted me for an easy mark ("crime of opportunity"), parked and then surprised me coming around a corner.
It's a shame that I find myself urging people to give up something they enjoy, and clearly you enjoy walking at night with the iPod playing. But city life does require a few adjustments, I guess, and although I'm not about to stop my walks, I must reluctantly admit that the iPod will no longer be a part of them.
    Anyway. Hope all this helps.

  • Multiple itunes accounts/libraries on one computer

We currently have only one ipod (shuffle) in our family for my 12 year old. Her itunes account is in my folder on our only internet connected computer. My younger daughter is buying her own shuffle and I would like to create a separate library and account for her. Is is possible to have separate Itunes libraries for different users on a Windows XP computer?

while in your profile (where her musci is) open C:/Documents and Settings. find the folder for her profile and open it. then there should be another documents folder in there with her name. open that then go to her music folder in there, and then itunes folder, and drag and drop it from where its at under your profile into that folder.
    make sence?

    I have an ipod touch 32gb. Model: MC008BT Version: 5.1.1. 3rd ed.
Recently when clicking play on any song the ipod will shuffle through as many songs as there are in the album or playlist until it reaches the end without playing any songs. It also does not go through each song. For example:
a 62 song playlist. I start on song 16. Immediatly the song will shuffle: 16-26-54-62 and then back to the main screen. Also when the songs are shuffling the play button in the top right corner is on.
Music will play if i start from track one with shuffle turned off and repeat turned on. But then i am limited each time to 1-5 songs.
Ipod has been in excellent working order since this has happened.
any suggestions on how to fix?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Shuffle makes laptop restart!!! HELP!!!!

I got my boyfriend a second generation shuffle from apple.com for Christmas. He has an Acer laptop, with all of the needed requirements for the shuffle to work. After reading the "manual" (if you can even call it that) that came with the shuffle, he went ahead and downloaded the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website. The manual then said that after you download iTunes, you connect your shuffle, so we did just that. When we did that, his laptop screen went black, and then restarted!! He has 4 USB plug-ins on the back of his laptop, and we tried all 4 of them and got the same result. After getting really annoyed, we decided to try my laptop. I already have an iPod mini, so I thought that for sure it was going to work. I plugged in his shuffle, and nothing happened. iTunes didn't open like it did normally for my mini, and I didn't even get an icon in the task bar saying that they found new hardware. My computer didn't recognize anything. I've read the manual on the Apple website, and looked over the FAQ's and Troubleshooting Tips numerous times to no avail. I even registered his iPod on the Apple website, and that didn't help either. I am at a loss at what to do! I also got him a portable charger. When I plug it into the charger, nothing happens either. Do you think that his iPod has a faulty USB? I didn't purchase a warranty or anything, so I'm not sure what to do now, because I feel like I've done everything possible! Should I just give in and take it to CompUSA? Will they even fix it there since I didn't buy it from them? Is anyone else having this sort of problem?

Return it for a replacement...Your Shuffle comes with a one year warranty. NO ONE fixes Shuffles, they just replace them

  • Organizing photos in a "shuffle" mode

In iPhoto I can organize photos in folders by "all, date, keyword or rating." However I wish to create DVDs of family photos via iMovie so as to use the advantages of iMovie, as themes, transitions and music. The final program is more pleasing if there is a random shuffling of the photos, not a fixed sequence based on dates, which is my main method of storing photos.
You will note that one can shuffle photos within slideshows on the computer and on ATV. And the screen savers on the computer and ATV are shuffled.
I wish to create a folder of photos to transfer to iMovie, the photos arranged in a random (but then fixed) manner in this folder. Rearranging many photos manually is unacceptable. I recommended to Apple that they add "Shuffle" to the present selection of date, keyword or rating, but have never received a response or reason. (Note that iTunes allows the shuffling of music playlists under Genius.)
Do you know of a way to arrange a shuffled photo folder to use in iMovie? Thanks for your help.

Get the photos in the album in the "random" order you want. Then open iMovie, click on the photos icon in the toolbar at the middle right of iMovie, find that album and drag the contents into the Project Library window of iMovie. They will be in the order that you set in iPhoto.

  • How to shuffle podcasts in itunes

I have hundreds of podcasts and I want to shuffle them in itunes. I noticed when I play one the shuffle button is there and I can push it but when the podcast is over it stops and doesn't go on. What is a way to make them shuffle? Also I have a 7th gen Nano and would like to shuffle podcasts on there but there is no shuffle button.

    Hello there, freshmotty.
The iTunes Help menu provides information that indicates playback and shuffle should be available for your podcast:
iTunes Help: Play music, video, and more.
    http://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.2/#itns26681
You might also try creating a podcast station using the following information:
iTunes Help: Download podcasts and educational media
    http://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.2/#itns3125
         Create a podcast station
Choose Podcasts from the Library pop-up menu and click My Stations.
Click near the bottom-left of the iTunes window.
Type a name for the station.
    Do one of the following:
Add podcasts to the station: Click next to the podcasts you want to include. A checkmark appears next to any podcasts you include.
Add all podcasts you subscribe to: Click On next to “Include all podcasts.”
To customize the settings for the station, click Show Settings. You can set the play order, which and how many episodes to include, and whether to include audio podcasts, video podcasts, or both. To include only episodes you haven’t played yet, select the checkbox for “Unplayed only.”The station’s settings apply to all podcasts included in the station.
    Click Done.
To view a station, click My Stations, then click the station in the list on the left. To play the station, click . To view or change the station’s settings, click .
In regards to shuffling playback on your iPod Shuffle, I also found this article which you may find useful:
iPod shuffle: Playing audiobooks and podcasts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1831
Playing Audiobooks and Podcasts on iPod shuffle
When using iPod shuffle (1st and 2nd generation), if iPod shuffle is set to shuffle songs it will play all the audio files on iPod shuffle except audiobooks and podcasts1. To play an audiobook or podcast, set the switch on iPod shuffle to play in order .
When using iPod shuffle (3rd generation), podcasts and audiobooks will not be played when content is played from All Songs. If content is played from a playlist synced from iTunes, audiobooks and podcasts will only be played if the iPod's switch is set to play in order. In addition to playlists synced from iTunes, iPod shuffle (3rd generation) will create a special playlist for each audiobook synced and one for podcasts. When accessing these special playlists, audiobook and podcast content will play whether the iPod is set to play in order or shuffle songs. Podcast are sorted by alphabetical order and then by episode date.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Linking tracks so they play together in shuffle

Is there a way to link tracks together, such as movements of a symphony or the medley on side two of Abbey Road, so that they play as one during shuffle mode on iTunes 11.1?

Okay.. I just learned about "join tracks" but is there a way to join tracks if I don't have the original CD, such as from an iTunes download?

  • No charge, no lights, third one to do this....no good?

3 shuffles the very same thing. will not charge, no lights, nothing. open itunes and it recognizes the correct shuffle. Any ideas? The 5 r's simply don't work. Maybe they won't delete this post!!

    Hi,
Is it a desktop or a laptop? If it is a desktop, please switch on the iPod and connect it to the dock and the dock to the back usb port [ Front usb ports are low-powered and the usb ports which are in the back are high-powered ones ( iPod shuffle needs high-powered usb ports for working consistently fine )]. Also, if it is a second generation iPod shuffle it is better to connect the iPod switched on .. if it is a first generation iPod .. connect the iPod switched off.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod (60) Freezes with Vista  shuffle (1GB) OK

I have a clean install of Windows Vista (Business) when I try to sync my iPod 60GB it freezes then blue screen of death and KERNELSTACK_INPAGEERROR. The one Gig shuffle is fine ... I only get this problem with iTunes and syncing with the 60GB iPod. Has anyone else seen this? This is not one of the problems specifically cited by Apple or Microsoft.

Upgrading my Nvidia SATA driver and iTunes reduces the crashes to once a week or less.
