One USB port works better than the other

I have a brand new 2011 MBP i5.  I just bought a Microsoft USB mouse and noticed that it works significantly better when plugged into one of the usb ports verses the other.  Any idea on if this is a peripheral problem or a MBP hardware problem?  Thanks!

I appreciate the help.

iTunes said my iPod Nano 4G is corrupted when it's in one USB port, but not in the other. Is the port faulty? Windows 7 PC

Could just be a loose connection or that the cable itself is going bad.  There are a number of factors that could play into this scenario.

Can you describe what you mean by "experiencing slow response"? Do you mean that you don't see the new responses as they come in? Does it takes up to two hours before they show up in the View Responses table when they show up immediately at your other location? And what do you mean but "the form not displaying"? Are you talking about the fillable form or the editable form in FormsCentral?
Can you please add me as co-author ([email protected]) of the form so that I can investigate on my side.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • Attachment won't open on one iPhone, but works fine on the other. Why?

2 iPhones with the same iOS version receive 1 email with an attachment from an Outlook user: one iPhone can open the attachment, the other can't (it only shows as winmail.dat). Why is this and how can I get it to open? Thanks!

He advised me to 'back up' everything and 'reformat' the computer.
I have been looking at how to do these tasks - not 100% on both.
The quickest way to do this is to create a clone copy of your existing internal Macintosh HD. You can create this copy using applications like Data Backup, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper!.
I use an external USB HDD for the clone copies.
The following AppleInsider article will give you an idea on how to use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone backup of your Mac's hard drive.

  • I have two very similar iMacs but one performs better than the other.  Any ideas?

I have the latest Premier CC on two systems, my 27" i7 iMac w/16 GB RAM at home, and a 27" Retina i5 iMac w/32GB RAM at work.  Both are running Yosemite but I don't quite get the performance on my home system as at work.  Both are using Mercury openGL.  The graphics cards look comparable, far as I can tell -- both have 2GB vram.  So the only thing left I can think of is the RAM but before I go spend that money and kill myself if it doesn't make any difference, anybody have any thoughts?

Hi Scott, thanks for the quick reply.  I chatted with an Adobe support person who said the extra RAM would only make a difference in "Mercury playback software only" mode.  (Of course, this is the same support person who said, unequivocally that "...rendering is always necessary, sir" just after I'd told him that I never have to render on my office system, just my home system, so I'm skeptical he really knew what he was talking about...thus, I'm here in the forum now!)
ANYWAY...sorry to be so lame, but could you clarify how to set cache disk settings?  I found memory allocation prefs -- it was set for 12 GB for Premiere, 4 for everything else.  I changed it to 13 premiere/3 everything else -- which is all it would allow me to do -- but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.  Also, it behaves the same way even if I'm running no other apps at all so not sure the background tasks diagnosis is a factor, but I could absolutely be confused about some key thing you're talking about!

  • Is the 17 inch better than the 15 inch mac book pro?

Which one is better to get and use? 15 or 17 inch?

I have both. One is not necessarily better than the other, really depends on what you plan on using the computer for. Even though the 17" is classified as a portable computer, IMO it's not very portable at all. Go to a store, view handle each for yourself. The 17" is quite large, mine sits on a desk as a desktop replacement. In terms of performance, equipped the same(processor, RAM & GPU), there is only about a 3% performance gain with the 17". Not enough to write home about. The big advantage of the 17" is screen real estate. But, if you want portability, get the 15".

  • Why does my $40 wireless phone work better than my airport?

I have a $40 wireless phone... ge... 2.4ghz... that works in any room in my home.
I have an $200 airport that doesn't work more than 10 feet away...
What is the difference that makes one work so much better than the other?
Are they completely differenct technologies, and if so, why wouldn't apple use the better one?
Don't get me wrong, I love apple and I love the airport when I am in the same room with it, but just don't understand why it can't work through a wall.

  • Is the nokia 7390 better than the 6290

this might seem like silly question but I am hoping someone could help me on this.
I recently perchased a 6290 and think its agreat phone however someone told me brifley about it
I have tryed to compare the two but am having trouble with my computer

The 6290 is a series 60 smartphone that was released around the middle of this year.
The 7390 is a series 40 fashion phone that was released late last year or early this year.
The 6290 is a has more features and the abilty to accept more programs but the 7390 has a better camera and smoother operating system.
If you prefer smartphones then the 6290 is the better phone but if you prefer fashion phones the the 7390 is better.
It's a case of S40 phone versus S60 phone, neither is better than the other, just different.

I want to transfer my iPhoto from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro. I have a firewire or I could also do it from my TimeCapsule. Would one be a better method than the other?

    Hi brotherbrown,
A direct FireWire transfer (especially if it's 800 to 800) is going to be the fastest method. TimeCapsule would work, if you connect to it via Ethernet, via wireless it would be quite slow (especially if you have a large library).

  • One USB port isn't working...

    Hey,
I just realised that one of my USB ports isn't working when I plugged in my mouse... Should I be very concerned about this?
I live in a really remote community (ie no stores anywhere closer than a 3 hour plane ride away) and can't bear the thought of living without a computer for several weeks if I send it to Apple to be repaired.
Could it be a sign that there's something else going on? Is is expensive to fix?
    Thanks!!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
When one USB port isn't working, often a Power Management Unit (PMU) reset will fix it. Follow these directions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

  • Using more than one USB Port at a time?

So, I'm trying to record something in a project using my Rocksmith USB to 1/4 inch cable, but I also need to make a screen recording of me doing that for a school project using my RockBand USB mic. The problem for me is that only one USB Port recognizes these two, and the three that don't aren't dead, as they work with everything else I have. How do I set it so that more than one USB port can recognize these devices? I don't want to have to keep switching every time.

    Thanks mhartnett.
I have looked at the example on the link you gave. According
to the example for the FileReferenceList in the documentation, it
seems to make multiple or rather separated requests to the
    server-side upload script.
So for example if I have 3 files to upload, the script will
call the the upload() function of the FileReference class thrice
with the URLRequest(which is the server-side upload script). So in
this case, my server-side script that is handling the upload will
only upload one file at one time.
Is there a way where I can have say all the 3 files sent
together to the server-side script, and then have them uploaded all
at once within the server-side script itself?
So say my PHP file, I could have access to like
    $_FILES['Filedata1'], $_FILES['Filedata2'] and $_FILES['Filedata3']
    together at one request.
