One very simple quick question please

I am needing to admin one computer from remote sites. As the admin computer will have different IP addresses each time I work, I don't imagine this will be a problem. However, which IP address should I use for the one client. The client machine is connecting through Qwest DSL, and has an external IP and a local IP. When I use the admin computer at the same location as the client, the external IP match and the local IP are different. How do I get to the correct machine when I am imagining that all of the Qwest DSL connected computers on the same node will have the same external IP. Can I "stack" IP's? - e.g. 123.111.11.182, 222.222.222.255 ?
Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Al

Normally you use the externally-facing IP address Qwest will assign to the modem, or the IP address the router picks up if a router is in use. If a router is in use, you may also have to open the appropriate ports for ARD and forward them to the client's internal IP address.

  • A very simple voicemail question - please help!

    Hi
My iphone 3G cuts into voicemail after only 3 rings, which isn't enough time to get it out of my pocket let alone answer!!
How do I lengthen the amount of rings before it goes to voicemail. I've tried everything (seemingly) and there doesn't seem to be any voicemail settings anywhere on the phone.
    Many thanks

This is controlled by your carrier, not the phone. Most carriers have a max of about 30 seconds they can set before going to voicemail. Call your carrier and ask them to extend the time to voicemail.

    you titled "simple quick question"...
    .. complicated to answer..
    a) the TermsOfUse of the iTS don't allow any processing of purchased files, these are "copy protected"..
    b) iM has a voice-over function..
    c) iM is a video-edit app.. easy to use... just learn to handle it...
    d) iM allows to "extract" audio (=muting the original audio, adding your own..)
    e) to learn iM, spend some time here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html
    f) use pencil and paper first! WRITE and scribble, what shall happen when in your movie/parody... make a script, draw a storyboard .. THEN launch iM.. in other words: think first, then edit.. iM is just a tool, it does not "create"... Picasso needed a papertowel and half a stencil to create art....
    g) to get comfortable with iM, start with your own, small, short (3min!) project... import some stills, edit them, add a funny voice-over, add sounds, add music... good? make a bigger one...
    h) .. in our Lecture II, we teach you how to import shows from TV, youtube, wherever..

  • Very Simple C question - reading input parameters/flags... [SOLVED]

This is an extremely simple question. Please forgive me for being a noob. I am writing an application in C (with GCC) called GAPE and need to be able to pass it parameters through a shell script (/usr/bin/gape) that can determine how it runs. To start with easy stuff, I want the end-user to be able to type "gape -V" to output the version of the program. How do I do that? I understand that I need to put the shell script in /usr/bin...where should I put the actual gcc-compiled gape application? Or do I even need a shell script? Can I just put the GAPE binary in /usr/bin and pass parameters to it directly? If so, how do I do that in C? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    include <stdio.h>
    main(int argc, char *argv[])
    int i;
    for(i = 1; i < argc; i++) //argc = the number of arguments
printf("param nr %d: %s\n", i, argv[i]); // argv[i] contain the arguments, with 0 being the program name (anyone may correct me here)
    [jaqob@p238 c++-egna]$ ./a.out 1 2 3
    param nr 1: 1
    param nr 2: 2
    param nr 3: 3
    [jaqob@p238 c++-egna]$ ./a.out -h -V -zxvf
    param nr 1: -h
    param nr 2: -V
    param nr 3: -zxvf
A very simple program that prints the parameters
And yes, you can put the program in /usr/bin/ without a shellscript

  • Very simple jstl question

I for the life of me have not been able to find the answer to this very simple question, googling and looking at various documentation. What is the difference between accessing properties using $ or #? Is there a difference?

  • Quick Question **PLEASE HELP** .jar file?

Hey everyone, im pretty new to the java scene but I have a really quick question that hopefully someone can help me with.
I'm really interested in making a .jar file out of my code. And basically I just want to make one. but i understand there are certain things like main class's, etc. that need to be made in order to make a .jar file.
So basically Say I opened up a new project in blueJ. I made 1 new class called "main." Inside of it I had nothing for conductors and no variables declaired untill the bottom part where i write my code.
    say i write...
    System.out.println("hello");
    and that is it.
What steps from there do i do to make a jar file and have it be able to be executed and SEE the "hello" printed somewhere NOT in blueJ??
(I understand there is something about a "static" method? Im not really sure but if somoene could enlighten me on how to make a .jar file that would be great.)
    Thanks a lot everyone!
    Tom

I don't know anything about BlueJ, but this section of Sun's tutorial explains how to
write a program that outputs a single line of text to the console:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/getStarted/cupojava/win32.html
Deploying an application as an executable .jar file is covered here:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/deployment/jar/index.html
The first two sections - "Using JAR Files: The Basics" and "Working with Manifest
Files: The Basics" - contain the information you need to understand this process.

  • MBP constant crashing and one very upset wife HELP PLEASE

Well I am at my wits end and I need some help, I am running a MBP, 10.7.1, stock everything, I have not upgraded RAM or HDD
I went out of town about 8 weeks ago and when I came back, tried to turn on my mac and it wouldn't come on.  I finally lion clean install and have been running fine every since.
Then the past week I have been experience several problem
1- I can not shut down my machine. I tried to logout, and then shutdown, this worked for a bit. It has stopped working. I have also tried to hold opt when I shut down.
I also check TOP in terminal before shutdown and kill any processes that may be hanging things up, manually quit all applications before shutting down.
Nothing I do works, is there a way to have the system shutdown with a terminal window open so I can see what process is hanging things up?
2- The larger issue is that my computer is constantly crashing, nothing shows up on the screen everything just locks up.
This is happening 3-4 times in the first hour of using the machine. It has gotten to the point that when I turn on the machine I let it sit for 15 minutes before I do anything.
I have tried to force quit things, but it won't work. I finally hold the power button for 5 secs and force it to shut down.
I checked add ons in terminal via it showed me
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
    it showed me
    at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch (2.4.4)
    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardACMData (4.20.00)
    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardECMControl (1.26.00)
    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardECMData (1.27.00)
I have also clean caches/ and so on to make sure there wasn't a bad file.
This morning I noticed that a crash report keeps getting written each day, the same exact one, I will post a copy below. I am new to mac's and just about had my wife convinced of them. She is beginning to loose that trust and is very upset with me. Please help!!

Thanks for all of your help, I thought that the USB modem was the problem. Unfortunately this is the only internet where we are.
Today I went ahead and found any processess that the USB modem was running and terminated it. Then I tried to shutdown, but it wouldn't again, I went through console and found this this. . . thoughts on what this could mean?

  • A very odd VLAN question -please help

    Hi,
We have two subnets 10.1.1.0 and 10.1.2.0 and these subnets are phisically separated. we also have two VLANS, VLAN 2 and 3, please think of the VLAN 2 as the default VLAN 1. strenge, it has been like this when I took over. there is no trunking between these two VLANS. 10.1.1.0 is the main network and all the servers and users arfe on it and 10.1.2.0 is a Dev environment and some development severs are on it.
I have given an IP address from the maon subnet i.e. 10.1.1.0 to a switch which is used for Dev environment on its SC0 and have assigned it to VLAN 2 but the rest of the 10.1.2.0, i.e. the Dev environment is on VLAN 3. from the main network I cannot ping that IP address (naturally) and I don't know how to build on what we currently have without making major changes and build over time as transparant as possible.
I am sorry for this very long expalanation.
I guess I need to know if I can make trunking between these two VLANs, i.e. VLAN 2 (main 10.1.1.0) and VLAN 3 (Dev environment 10.1.2.0) with out needing a router? of if I need a router, how? so that I can build upon it over time.
well, I have given an IP address from main subnet from VLAN 2 to a swotch which is for VLAN 3 or Dev environment!!! I really didn't know how to do this in order to make it as trasnparant possible to others since I am not in charge of the AD and the servers.
Please forgive me for my somehow vague explanation and I hope I could have made a question.
    Thanks,
    Masood

Hi and thanks for responding. Almost all my switches are L2/L3 Cisco CAT switches with two 3560 at the edge with knowledge of public network located between my two border routers and my Firewalls. My main switch is a Cisco CAT 4510 R with is a layer 2 and 3 switch with Cisco IOS and a few 3550s and 3512s around. I also have two CAT 4006s with CAT OS but these aren't my current concern as I know that I need to either use one of these swithes or a router to route between my VLANs. I do have a Cisco Router, a 2621 as my main router with its fa 0/1 is used for my two mian subnets (servers, devices, and users are on these two subnets 10.1.1.0 and 10.1.4.0) and the DHCP server is givng out IPs out of these two private subnets. the other interface on this router fa0/0 is used for 10.1.2.0 which is totally isolated subnets with a bounch of servers on it called Dev Environment. The AD guys want it this way.
Ok, now, when I take over this network I realized that those people who were looking after this network had created two VLANs, VLAN 2 (acting as the default VLAN 1 actually and used for managemnt of devices too) and VLAN 3 (VLAN 3 is for 10.1.2.0, i.e. the DEv Evironment, so bacically all of my devices, servers and users are on VLAN 2!!! and no trunking.....
I have provided a Diag of my network topology.
what I need to do is to find the best way to create a few more VLANs on my main network (10.1.1.0 and 10.1.4.0) and put all the servers on one VLAN; say VLAN 2 and few other segments and ten start to route between them by trunking. My problem is that the AD guys do not want to get involve and do not want (one of them my boss) to do IP renumbering so i need to do this at the L2 (by MAC addrss may be) and then use the router or (I can upgrade my main router to provide more interfaces with more mem and processing power) and use t to route between VLANs. this router is also used to connect us to a remote office where we have our Web Servers hosted via a T1 point-to-point as we are an online business so I need to be very carefull with this mission and have all the server and web Servers at this locations and my remote locations (10.5.1.0) on a same VLAN and then user on different VLANs by segmenting departments.
Now, you see my delema and the challange that I am facing. how this can be done slowly and gradually. first adding one more VLAN put all the servers on it (also, back interfaces and clustering of servers in mind) and users on another, then, start trunking and see how it works. if all goes well then I can start creating more VLANs and that would be the easy part and point them to the trunk Interface / Link.
Your thoughts will be greataly apreciated.
    Thx,
    Masood

  • Very simple cfselect question

    Hi,
I have a really noob question; what is the easiest way to
output the values of a cfselect dropdown to a cfoutput tag on the
    same page?
I am only interested in puting the values of the dropdown
into the cfoutput tag when the user selects on a dropdown item .
    Thanks for your time.

    Thanks for the quick reply!
I think what i meant to say with the code i posted is that i
am perfectly happy with validating the form on the server AND i
have added a submit button to my form (its just not in the code i
posted) and the form is "in fact" validating to my CF8 server.
However where I am stuck is that I am not sure if there is still is
tricky server behavors or other code that i need to add to the form
    or page itself.
In the code i posted before i still only recieve the first
output selection regardless if the submit button is pressed the
    value of "50" always appears/reappears.
I am still new to CF and i like it a lot but it is a little
puzzling that for such a ultra-simple task as what im stuck with i
hope that i dont need to write reams and reams of code to do this.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Very simple network question

Forgive my stupidity asking this question...
I have an iBook G4 and two Windows PCs (one W2K, one XP) all happily sharing a wi-fi network using Airport Express.
I am about to dash out to the shops to buy a USB printer so that we can all print wirelessly, using iFelix's fab website for guidance. My incredibly dumb question is this: do I need to establish any kind of network before embarking on the printer-sharing project, or, by the very fact that we are all sharing a wi-fi network, are we already three "networked" computers??
I don't want to share any files between the computers, just a printer. Is there anything I need to do beforehand to create a network, or are we already one??
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Window XP, Windows 2000, AirPort Express

Sanhodo: there are reports of problems with windows sharing a printer to a wireless iBook. You should read iFelix guide to wireless printing (run a google search), it will shed some light on the subject.
JFYI, the setup of Claudine is completely different from yours, since she will connect the printer to THE ROUTER, not to a computer --which is your case-- and therefore she will avoid the problems of windows printer sharing...

  • About to buy a Mac Pro, have quick question please.

    Hi all,
I am going to more than likely buy a Mac Pro 2.66 tonight or tomorrow, but I was wondering something in regards to graphics cars if any one could assist me.
I am planning to go with the ATI card and 2gigs of ram since I do some gaming on the side and plan to use bootcamp for that.
My question is that if I buy the machine in retail store, they do not credit the stock GeForce card and just add the ATI card in, so if I go that rout can both the ATI and Nvidia card both reside in the machine at the same time and be used in SLI mode?
EG: can I get the power of both cards or will I only be able to use the processing power of one card? If only one card then would I be better off configuring the machine online since they credit you the difference of the Nvidia card which saves roughly $150.00 off the order from doing it in a retail store?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not worried about the $150.00, it would almost be worth it to spend the extra since the shipping time on the online configuration may end up costing almost the same unless I want to wait a few weeks for the machine.
Whats your thoughts on this? Is it worth it to buy in the store and use both cards or just buy online from apple and get the credit for the Nvidia card?
    Thanks in advance!

can both the ATI and Nvidia card both reside in the machine at the same time and be used in SLI mode
No… SLI requires two Nvidia SLI capable cards. In addition, SLI is not supported under Mac OS X although does work, apparently, under Windows and Boot Camp. ATi's comparable technology is CrossFire.
would I be better off configuring the machine online since they credit you the difference of the Nvidia card which saves roughly $150.00 off the order from doing it in a retail store?
Financially yes as the Nvidia card is ultimately useless to you. One consideration though is the CTO conditions of return, or lack there of, in case you receive a DOA. In the US, amongst other countries, CTo unit are not returnable even if they are DOA so you should check the terms of sale in the country store you would buy from.
    Whats your thoughts on this?
I, like many others, bought CTOs from the Apple Store so I don't think it's such a bad way to go. It also means you won't have any pressing need to open your new Mac Pro right away.
One thing you might want to consider though is to downgrade the standard 250GB hard drive to a 160GB drive and use the saving on a drive of your choosing. Apple tends to use OEM desktop drives that have unimpressive performance. The 160GB drive in my Mac Pro didn't even get turned on. It was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 if you're interested.

  • Very simple Hashtable question

Ok, this might be a very dumb one, but I can't spot the error. After seeing numerous examples of a hashtable, I tried the following:
    Hashtable p = new Hashtable();
    p.put ("Alberta", "ab");
But I keep getting the following error:
    <identifier> expected
    p.put ("Alberta", "ab");
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong???

It's not a problem with hashtables, specificly. you can't add elements to an hash or a vector or perform another routine outside a method or a constructor. there is no way that
that operation can be executed during compiling.

  • VERY URGENT IPHOTO QUESTION PLEASE HELP!!!

Good day. i know this is an ihpoto question which should be posted in the iphoto section- but due to its urgency i really need all the help i need.- I would like to create a slide show presentation with music attached to it. i tried it once with a few pistures and it worked. now, i have around 3 hundred pictures and would like to create a slide show but unfortunately the same music keeps on playing over and over again. once the 1st music is done and there are still pictures to be shown, can i use another music title? how do i do this? please help....

I always create a playlist in iTunes when I'm making an iPhoto slide show. You can select the playlist to play. I generally try to figure out how long I really want the slide show to last, and then make the playlist in iTunes. You haven't told us which version of iPhoto you're using, but the more recent versions have an option to time the slideshow to the length of the music rather than playing the music over again. Exactly which versions of iTunes and iPhoto do you have?

  • HT204088 sir i have forgot answer to one of my security question please help me

    please help

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane  and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox).
Or you could see if the second half of Kappy's reply in this thread helps : https://discussions.apple.com/message/20357006#20357006

  • SOME ONE VERY GOOD WITH ITUNES PLEASE HELP!!!!

wen i go to add file and select the file itunes opens but nothing happens i have so much space on my ipod i dont understand it PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

    Alexl08
I suspect these are files downloaded from Napster, Rhapsody, Sony, Walmart, or some other online store that has WMA copy protection.
Those files will not work in iTunes.
That's why Dave was asking WHERE you got them.
To get them into iTunes, you need to burn an audio CD using Windows Media Player (or some other program that can play the files) and then, import them into iTunes.
The DRM copy protection between Apple & Windows is incompatible. That's why iTunes won't let you drag them in - it can't play them. And Windows Media Player can't play sonfs from the iTunes store.
Ah, the joys of DRM: digital rights mismanagement.
edit: if you hover your mouse over one of those files in windows explorer, the little baloon info will pop up and say
    Protected:Yes
You can only drag Protected:No songs into iTunes.
