One week in USA with a Swiss Sim-Card can I naviga...

I have Nokia maps licenced for europe (living in Switzerland) with a Swiss sim card in my handy.
I will travel to the USA for 2 Weeks:
I can licence USA for a short time to navigate by car there- OK.
When I give in a route in the USA, does my handy make any GPRS connection for calculating the route or navigating along the route, or does my handy just using GPS signals?
I am asking because the GPRS connection will charge a lot on my Swiss sim card!

There are two things you need to do to ensure that you don't use a data connection:
Switch off A-GPS and Network-based positioning:
Assuming that you're using an S60 phone (you didn't say the model) go to Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods anddeselect both.
De-activate going online at startup:
From Maps, Options>Tools>Settings>Internet>Go online at startup and set to 'no' or 'Always ask'.

If your iPhone is locked to a wireless provider, only that wireless provider
can unlock it. Contact the wireless provider in Hong Kong to see if they
offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If your iPhone is locked to an AppleID that you do not know, return it for
a refund as it is useless. Only the person whose AppleID was used for
activation can remove the lock. There is no workaround for Activation Lock.
If neither of the above is what you are facing, provide more detail so someone
may offer a solution. -

certainly. Synch one of your phones to iTunes. Then restore the other phone from the first phone's backup.

I registered my apple ID and Icloud with a US address, and live in Switzerland. I do not own a US credit card. Now that I need to buy more storage with my swiss credit card, I can't change the country's billing address from the US to my swiss one. HELP PLS?
Did you actually watch the movie? You get 30 days in which to view it and if you didn't watch it, that could be why you are getting that message. If you have watched the movie and you're sure that is has expired by now, contact iTunes Store Support and seek their help.
Change the country in the upper left. - and click on Purchases, billing and redemption to proceed.

Would an unlocked iphone bought in the usa work in the uk with a uk sim card
I am looking to buy an unlocked iphone 4s on my next trip to the usa and was wondering if it would work back in the uk with a uk sim card?
If it is truly unlocked, yes. Note, though, that you would get no warranty or other support for a US-sold iPhone in the UK. Should it ever need service, you'd have to send the iPhone to someone you know in the US to get it serviced. So think hard before you decide to purchase a US iPhone.

I have been using my iPad with sim for weeks now, just 24 hrs ago the message I am having is no SIM card installed, I tried it with some other SIM card same same still pop up. What can I do pls
ok, I did, and it said again congrats your iPhone is unlocked, but, when it said there was a new carrier update, I cancelled it, but, it asked me again, I cancelled again, I guess I'm scared it will lock it again if I allow the carrier update.
Oh, there it goes again, this time on the phone, arg. I hit update, I hope it doesn't freak out.
I'm glad I didn't destroy the SIM like I almost did. But, it will come out again, longer battery life with the cell portion turned off. -

I have just been re-issued an o2 pay monthly sim card as my phone was stolen. I'm going to NYC in September and was thinking of getting a iPhone in an apple store there. Will I be able to bring it home and use it in England with my o2 sim card? Or will I need to get it unlocked? Thank you
Thank you so much. This makes a lot of my sense. As my phone was stolen too, it probably makes sense to buy it in the UK and keep the reciept as i'm claiming on insurance ... I thought I might save money by getting it in the US, but actually you're right, after all the hassle and then the problems afterwards, probably best just to stick to the home country! Thank you.

Thank you very much!The iPhone is sold as "unlocked and contract-free" when purchasing that option from the Apple Store, though Apple's verbiage is using "unlocked" and "SIM-free" rather interchangeably:
The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use the unlocked iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T or T-Mobile in the United States. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA-based carriers, including Sprint and Verizon Wireless.
If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. If you choose T-Mobile, your iPhone comes with a T-Mobile SIM card already installed. You will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone.
Otherwise, the unlocked iPhone does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using your iPhone, simply insert the SIM card into the slot and turn on iPhone by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.
Purchasing an unlocked iPhone means you will not qualify for the lower iPhone price associated with a contract. The unlocked iPhone 5c model is A1532 (GSM). The unlocked iPhone 5s model is A1533 (GSM).

If it came from direct from Apple in Thailand then it should be unlocked
Borrow a sim from a different carrier to yours and see if it gives service -
I will studying in the UK for the next year and want to know if an unlocked iPhone 4S with a new sim card purchased in the UK will work as opposed to getting a new phone? There seem to be differeing opinions on this.
Iphone 4s only has one version so it should work world wide in any carrier..As long as it's and unlocked version ofcourse.

I'd like the benefit of, when visiting the US, selecting a wireless carrier without having to swap in a carrier-specific SIM card.

Why should you buy from AT&T if you can buy from anywhere else and get an Apple SIM. Using that you can change carriers whenever you want. But if you change the carrier to AT&T, I've heard that they Lock your iPad to AT&T. Thats a bad move by them.
I've compared the bandwidths of networks myself and they are exactly the same in US and India

I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 that I cannot get to work with a local SIM card in ANGOLA. I was told my phone would work with an overseas sim card. I need HELP. My phone will not use an ANGOLA UNITEL sim card for data. I believe my phone is still locked. What can be done??? HELP
APN is what has to be changed. APN stands for Access Point Name.
If you search for Angola UNITEL APN you will find several sites on line with the correct information you need to enter.
You enter the details under more networks in the settings menu, just keep digging until you find APN.
You do not need a rooted phone and all global phones are already unlocked.
It is very easy to do and should not have been difficult but it was. Now that I know how, I hope others with similar problems will find this posting -

I have no idea what to do xxYou need to connect the phone to iTunes and then try activating it from there and restoring it as new.
If you have further problems and especially as the iPhone you have bought is second hand, it could be that it is not unlocked. Are you sure that it is? If not, then you'll need to speak to the person that you purchased it from.
