OneKey Recovery broke after reinstall with retail DVD

So I know this has been an issue (After reading tons of posts after the fact...) but couldnt find a straight clear resolution for my situation or I missed it somehow.
Anyway got a G530/3000 4446-23U.
Came with Vista Home Basic and the OKR button thing.
I booted off a DVD of vista and saw it had 3 partitions. 0, 1, 2.
I saw 0 & 2 was some factory type stuff and 1 was windows. So I erased 1 and created new one and had vista ultimate install.
Well of course this broke OKR button.
I didnt know this would happen, I figured it was like the dells and what not, so long as I didnt erase the other partitions I was safe... HA teach me...
Anyway I have tried to get this to boot back up to OKR and no joy. It boots to vista if I press the key. I have read that I guess the MBR got messed up and it also modified some files on that drive?
Anyway I tried setting 0 (the OKR partition) to 12 as it was 7 for the partition type and also set it to boot but no joy. Same results. 12 just seems to hide it from windows.
Anyway I found on that other partition it has two WIM files. One is drive c and one is drive s (OKR drive).
I mounted those and tried to copy of the bootmgr and other boot files from the image because the vista install modified it and still no joy.
So it seems they provide us with the original files but no simple way to restore them. The next thing is why even with original files wont it boot right? is something other than boot, and type 12 wrong with the partition?
Also one other wrench to toss in this mess is I have flashed the bios. it came with 1.05 I think, I put 1.15 on from lenovo site as it said it fixed a problem with sleep, so i figured flash it to save myself trouble later. Well that bios had a bug or was not for our exact laptop even though it said 530... I have now found some 1.07 bios that seems to not have the bug, but I guess its also possible it changed something too? It is for a MT 4446. but again it seems to run best.
Anyway any help on the OKR would be great.
I have not erased or toucheed the two factory partitions, just windows one was erased and re-made. Their is also those two image files I can take files out of if I need to restore anything, just cant seem to get her to boot to it.

okr doesn't work due to you made changes on volumes.
you need to order recovery discs from lenovo or ship it to back to reset the hdd its default. then okr will work.

  • IBook G4 1.33gh 1.5gb won't run Leopard 10.5.6 after install by retail DVD

    I have a 12" iBook G4 1.33gh 1.5gb (last PPC version) that was running Tiger 10.4.11 on 2 partitions.
I wiped Tiger off partition 2, and tried to install Leopard 10.5.6 using a retail DVD.
But after the software loads, and goes to re-boot to the new system set up, all I get is an empty blue screen.
I tried installing 3 times from the Leopard DVD, only to get the same result.
The blue screen isn't a computer problem as I can reboot back to Tiger on partition 1 with no issues.
    Anyone know why this is?

I didn't see anything that relates, unless I'm misunderstanding.
The notes suggest doing an archive and replace if the install fails. But isn't an archive and replace really like a clean install, but one that saves your older elements should you want them?
In my case I'm not trying to install Leopard over an older Tiger. I just want to install it clean on an empty partition.

  • Can I selectively copy files from TM backup after reinstalling OS from dvd?

    Hi everyone,
I have searched both this forum and the web, and have not been able to find an answer.
I have two separate questions. First, I have a 2TB external with a 1.5 TB partition for TM, and 500GB for my Aperture library and iTunes videos. I have TM set so it will back up the second partition on the same drive, as well as the internal HDD of my MBP and another external drive to the TM partition. This won't cause any problems when restoring will it? I don't have another hard drive right now to make another backup of the libraries, because my last one crashed.
I'm planning on doing a reinstall of OSX from the dvds, (Apple's advice) and I was wondering if it's possible to selectively copy things from the TM backup? For example, I would copy the applications over automatically, but I'd want to pick and choose which of the other files to copy back.
I want to be able to eventually get everything back the way it was with no problems, but I don't want to bring something back that was causing my original problems that caused me to reinstall OSX.
If necessary, even starting out new, provided I could copy everything back again piecemeal, would be fine. I just want to get these problems to stop!
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I think that my problems are hardware related, but Apple wants me to try to re-install from scratch.
What would I miss that's in the Library folder? The only thing I can think of that'd be hard to get back would be emails from Mail, as I think they are stored in there. However, I excluded one of my email address folders anyway, since it was 4 gigs, and it's a Gmail account anyway.
I just want to make sure that I wouldn't lose anything important.
Also, when I plug in the TM drive after reinstalling from scratch, it won't try to overwrite my backups with a new, almost blank one will it? I'm assuming no, but I want to cover all my bases, as I'm not that familiar with TM.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard with retail DVD.

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I've not been able to find it when searching.
I'm going to be upgrading an iMac from Tiger to Snow Leopard, using the retail DVD. When I boot from it, it only gives me the option to install, and there's no indication that it will be upgrading rather than installing a new copy.
Can you upgrade Tiger to Snow Leopard with this DVD or would I have to do a clean install? If I can upgrade, is it normal that it isn't telling me it's going to do an upgrade?
    Thanks all.

The Snow Leopard installer is somewhat optimized for updating an existing system: it uses data gathered from the old system to decide what to install, its network settings to attempt to access an Apple database of incompatible apps to supplement the list on the DVD, & other useful things.
It even does the equivalent of Disk Utility's verify disk step before writing anything to the HD & does the actual upgrade as root user, making permissions issues a moot point.
There is no reason to hesitate to use it in this way. It is greatly improved compared to earlier OS installers.

  • Reformat MBP Mac OS X 10.6 with retail DVD

    Hi,
hope somebody will be able to help me out.
I purchased my MBP in 2011 and have since lost the shipped installation DVD for Mac OS X 10.6 that came with it. Now I would like to reformat the hard drive and do a clean reinstall. To do so I purchased a new copy of the OS X 10.6. Following the procedure of holding 'C' on start up results in the computer repeatedly sounding a sequence of 3 bongs. What is the problem here? How do I get around having to use the 'original' shipped DVD for the clean install?
    Thanks for your help!

You purchased the 10.6 retail disk, good for Intel Mac's that came with 10.4-10.6.2 from the factory.
10.6.3 -10.6.8 need model specific versions from Apple, they come with free iLife and have hardware drivers no on the 10.6 retail disk for certain models of Mac's.
Call Apple with your serial number or model identifier (system profiler) to order model specific 10.6 install disks.
If some chance you purchased your Mac used and it's a older model than a 2011, then you might have the right disk, it's just bad.
If some chance you purchased your Mac after July 2011, then it came new with OS X Lion, and the firmware wont boot from the model specific install disks, nor the 10.6 retail disks. (but can be bypassed)
Apple will know once they know your serial number.

  • Firefox will not open on my computer, even after reinstall, with no error message or when I try to run "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p. Help?

I recently installed firefox so I could use an adblocker. It installed just fine, and it worked just fine for about three days. Then yesterday it stopped opening. I'm on a Toshiba running Windows 7. The icon highlights when I click on it, but then it stops and won't open the browser at all. When I try to run it with the manual command "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p, I get the error message, "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location." I installed it to that location, and I don't need a disk. I'm connected to the Internet just fine and my other browsers (Chrome and IE) work the same as always. But they're swamped with ads and I really was happy wih Firefox when it was opening...how can I fix this issue?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Audigy 2 - No Sound after reinstall with latest drivers

I have reinstalled my harddri've and as part of that had to reinstall my soundcard (Audigy2). This is an old Dell system for the kids to play around with. However I can't get it to work. Initially the Audio console kept defaulting to Headphones. I have clicked off the sync with Windows and now both are on 5., but still no sound.
No conflicts or anything, speakers are connected (and always worked well before this), not set to digital output,
    Any idea anybody?

    PieterVL,
Is this a Dell OEM card? Do you have an installation CD for it's If so, did you cancel out of installing the Windows driver and install the driver from the CD?

  • ISync wont open even after reinstalling with Pacifist

I hate to revive a topic that Mr Lafferty (god bless) must have thought dead and gone, and replaced by all the Leopard iSync complaints threads, but...
I have a refusenik iSync in 10.4. I have done all of the reinstallation using Pacifist and OSX combo updates as recommended on other threads, but I still don't have a revived iSync. When launched, the logo still bounces away for a while, then sits in the Dock with no little triangle beneath - just like before I reinstalled. Still no response when I click on it except that the word iSync appears in the top corner and everything freezes until I click on Finder or some other icon.
I have used the 10.4.11 combo update. I have done it twice, and I have tried both Update and Replace when those options appear in the combo update.
Aargh. Is there another more fundamental way of getting rid of this annoying defective iSync and installing a completely new version?
As some may realise, I'm reposting - apologies. But I never get a reply to my posts- help!!!

    Where to start? Try this…
Look for an iSync crash log—iSync.crash.log—here:
    Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Logs:CrashReporter
Use Technical Note TN 2123: CrashReporter to get some idea of why your copy of iSync crashes.

  • Laptop keeps booting up after Reinstalling Windows with Recovery Disks

My hard drive died. I replaced it and reinstalled windows using the recovery disks that came with it.
After a successful installation (formatting the drive, installing software in 3 CDs) the computer keeps rebooting endlessly. The reboot process never leaves the intial TOSHIBA screen that access the CMOS therefore windows never starts.
    What is wrong?
    Thanks in advance....

    Solved!

I got it to work..... The solution: Even though I was not getting any errors during the recovery (only when rebooting after the install) I read about issues with the software recognizing the computer as the one entitle for that installation. I downloaded the "DMI Update Utility" installed it and reinstalled the software again from the recovery CDs with no issues this time..... Thanks for your interest Techman....

  • Help needed - Can't access OneKey Recovery restoration option after system reboot,

    Hi,
I run OneKey Recovery, after I choose "recovery", and system reboot.....system automatically log in Windows 7 again, rather than access OneKey Recovery restoration option.
I am using G570 and  OneKey Recovery version is 7. this issue never happened before, it always reboot to OneKey Recovery restoration before....please help. Thanks

You shouldn't need Command + R since the Option key will present you with the Recovery boot volume. Seems something is amiss there, I'm willing to bet you may have been using a wireless keyboard.

  • OneKey Recovery System wiped out my hard drive - Please Help with RMA

Hi, I just recently got an IdeaPad S12 netbook.
Last night I tried using the OneKey Recovery System to restore the hard drive to the original factory configuration.
Unfortunately, the restored process did not work and I had to shut down the system.
Now, on boot up, I just get a blank screen with this message:
"Remove disks or other media.  Press any key to restart"
I cannot boot up in to Windows, or even run the OneKey process again.
I know there has been a documented problem (on forums, not in actual documentation!) that the OneKey system cannot run after hard drive partitions have been resized.  However, it is truly a defect in the software to corrupt the entire drive, instead of providing a warning and blocking the process from continuing.
Today is my last day in the 21 day period to get an RMA.  I called customer support and they will only issue an RMA with restocking fee.  They say I have to go through tech support and have the case documented and approved, including physical inspection (if necessary I think), in order to waive the restocking fee.  Considering the OneKey software can produce such disastrous results, I should not have to pay the restocking fee.  It seems like a waste of everyone's time and money to send the laptop to tech support, instead of just allowing me to do the return right now.
I'm hoping someone from Lenovo can help me get this RMA approved today and not deal with tech support or restocking fee.  Right now I have a 3-pound brick instead of a functioning laptop.
    George

    Georgewsu,
Thanks for the pointer on the documentation - I'll see what we can do to make it more clear that changing partitions can inhibit OKR from functioning properly.
Systems with no optical drive like the S10 or S12 can be more challenging when trying to recover from this sort of thing - there is a balance, perhaps in expecting a user to get a USB external optical drive and burn recovery media if they are going to change the partitioning of the drive and making netbook class systems available at this price point.
Without intending to sound too harsh, I'm not sure why Lenovo should fairly absorb the cost of the results of the changes you made to the product.   If you return a product,  we are going to have to refurbish it, re-image and resell at a substantial discount.  When you consider the time, the shipping costs, and what we will subsequently get for the product, we are well in the negative territory on the deal.
I think what might be more fair is to contact support and see if the depot can reimage your system under warranty.  If so, your system functionality will have been restored - you keep a quality system, and everyone is happy.   If you then want to customize your configuration, I would suggest getting a USB optical drive and burn recovery media before making more changes.
    Best regards,
    Mark
