OneNote for Mac - Backup Solutions Needed

Upon installing Microsoft OneNote for Mac, the software client automatically saves all OneNote files in the cloud with OneDrive. Is anyone aware of how one might save a backup of these files to a local or alternative cloud location (e.g. iCloud or Google Drive) for safekeeping? As it stands now, OneDrive will not allow a user to copy the OneNote files to another location, nor will it allow a user to move the files to a non-OneDrive location. Additionally, there is no option available on the client to export within the native file format (or export at all, frankly).
The best backup method as of this moment is to email yourself each and every note created in OneNote. In addition to being tedious, it wholly lacks in anything resembling security for the note contents.
Left as is, the only copy of all content created and saved in OneNote for Mac is saved on OneDrive. It goes down, all content is lost for all intents and purposes.
If someone has figured out a way to overcome this issue (other than moving to another software solution or using Windows), I'd really like to know.
Thanks!

I have the exact same question. I have had files mysteriously disappear from onenote before and stopped using it for a while. I use it for a lab notebook, so this is EXTREMELY important for me.

Bought InDesign CS4 for Mac and now need to move it to a PC. Help!

Most Adobe software is written for one of two platforms, Mac or PC.  In order to switch platforms you need to be using the most current version, so CS4 would not be supported for making this switch.  Here is a link to a page that explains the requirements for switching platforms....

From Adobe: "If you have an older version of a product, you must order an upgrade instead of a swap." Because you have a CS6 suite your only option may be to subscribe to Creative Cloud in order to get current cross-platform versions of all their applications. • What version of office for mac is mininally needed to be installed on 10.9? I just tried my own 2004, which as too old, am hoping 2008 or 2011 since I don't want to buy a new one...

    Hi,
I work on a second hand macbook pro running on 10.9 and now want office for mac on it, additionally to the sofware I already have.
On my old macbook I had office 2004 and since I still have two product codes unused was hoping these can still be used, but I tried to install it and it's just not supported anymore.
Since I don't have a lot of budget right now I hope 2008 may be possible to be installed since I can get one for only a little money (want no illegal copies), but it's a shame to get it if it turns out not to work.......I read somewhere 2008 is not supported anymore but I don't know if that necessarily means it cannot be installed.....
or do I need 2011 at least?
Or would 10.9 actually only allow the latest 2013 version to be installed?
I'd like to know before buying anything......
Right now it actually has an office 2011 version installed by the previous user but unfortunately that one was not activated and I have no way to retrieve the product code.
as i said, i like it to be legal, that's why I prefer buying the original software and the older versions can be found cheaper......
I hope someone can give me some advice!
    thanks,

Office 2011 is the current boxed version for the Mac. The two versions are Home and Business. The difference (besides price) is that the Business version includes Outlook. Both contain Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Actually, the Home version also has Outlook hidden on the disk. If you decided later you want to use Outlook, you can call Microsoft for an unlock code to install it from the Home version disk. The unlock cost is essentially the difference between the Home and Business versions.
You mentioned Office 2013, but that's the current Windows version. MS hasn't really stated one way or another if there will be a feature comparable boxed Mac version. If there is, it looks like we won't see it until sometime in 2014. To get the current functionality of Office 2013 in a Mac product, you'd have to purchase the subscription based Office 365.
It does depend on your needs. Often, Office must be used for true compatibility with people you work, or collaborate with. It also has many features the free alternatives don't offer, and can't import or replicate. Otherwise, as Gary noted, Open Office is a good free choice.

My Ipod is formatted for my Mac, and my entire library is in it. However, I need to download a audiobook from my library , and when I connect my Ipod to my Windows PC, it is telling me that I need to restore it , which means that I will

      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. There are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. XPlay and MacDrive for instance get good reviews. XPlay is an iPod specific program, MacDrive is more general and lets you access various types of Mac formatted drives on Windows such as CDs, DVDs, hard drives etc:

  • OneNote for Mac

    Hi All,
I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum page, but can't seem to find any other forum that matches my question.
Does Mac have any equivalent for OneNote or MS Office for Mac have OneNote included with the package. If there is none, is there any 3rd party software that works the same way and is it Mac authorized? Sorry, I'm a new Mac user.

MS does not currently offer OneNote for the Mac. I think there was hope that it would be included in their latest Office for Mac update (2011), but it didn't make it.
Here is a link to several alternatives: http://onsoftware.en.softonic.com/5-mac-alternatives-to-onenote
I hear good things about Evernote.
My issue is that my employer uses OneNote extensively in collaborative situations - we share OneNote notebooks on Sharepoint, therefore I have little alternative to running a Windows VM and using Office for Windows (my employer is otherwise Mac-friendly).
Perhaps OneNote will one day be released for Mac and I will be able to go native once again. I search for info every few months, but I don't see anything new. It was just such a search that led me to your query.
    Good luck,

It has been a long time since I had to restore an item.  I had forgotten how to do that.  Thanks for the tip.  It worked perfectly.  And yes, I had the foresight to backup weekly.  Now I know why I do that.

I have an iphone 4 running iOS 7.0.3.
I want to use firefox on my iphone and believe i need to install Firefox Sync to accomplish this. Is there anyway where i can run firefox on my iphone?
Syncing between the Mac and the iphone would be good but is not essential.

  • New Desktop Manager for Mac - backup fails

Each time I try to back up my Curve to my Mac, it fails when backing up "RMS Databases". I have to shutdown the Curve and restart it after each attempt. I'm currently running version 4.5.0.160 (I see there is a newer version, but can't install till I get a good backup).
Has anyone got it to back up a Curve?
    Thanks,
    Des

Hm.. that is weird. I can backup my "RMS Databases" on my Bold, when I click on Backup, and then choose "Selected data", and check only "RMS Databases".. I'm not sure what that database is, but if it shows that it has 0 records, then you might not have to worry about it.
When you do a full backup, does it say "Backup data completed" though? It would say this at the bottom of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window.... if it did, then it probably means it backed up everything except that database.
You can confirm by doing a backup, and choose "Selected data", and then check all the databases, except for "RMS Databases"

  • Time Machine / FileVault / External Backup solutions needed.

    Hi,
I have a MBP that was playing up a little while ago, after visiting the Apple store I was told to back up my data and do a clean install of Snow Leopard, once that's done, to only pull back the files/folders needed, this has all be done and my MBP is working lovely now.
I am now backing up my information to an External HDD on a regular basis via Time Machine (TM) and that's great, BUT I can't password protect the EX-HDD!
Question: Is there a way to password protect my EX-HDD? I shall be partitioning the drive soon and sharing it with another user and I don't want them to be able to access my files and folders.
What options do I have, I've been YouTube'ing all day and checking the forums but I just can't seem to find a definitive answer.
    My goals are: -
    1) To allow another user to back up their MB to my EX-HDD on their partition of the drive.
    2) Password protect my partition on the EX-HDD so access to read/write is only granted once password is accepted.
    3) Continue to use TM on both partitions when backing up
Question - Is FileVault a viable option? I've read that once files are encrypted the lag literally spoils the experience of OSX.
Question - Do FileVault and Time Machine work seamlessly together?
Any help is greatly appreciated, I've been trying to find a solution to this all day.

Hey thanks for your input, I was reading about another solution which I have started, where I can use Disk Utility to encrypt folder/files and only mount them when needed. There were two options to do this.
    (1) is to create a sparse disk image - and I believe that I would then set a size limit for the disk image encrypt it, provide a password and let TM back up the .dmg file and away I go.
    or
    (2) is to create a sparse bundle disk image, same as option one, only it will just encrypt portions of files/folders that have been changed and not the whole image like option 1.
I've gone with option two and given it a dummy run and it's all good, however when setting the allocated sizes for the volumes and the image is created, is there anyway to increase and decrease the allocated amount at any given time? And if so, how...?
And to clarify Sparse disk bundle image + Time Machine = play nicely?
I've tried to be as clear as possible and I hope that the above makes some sense.

  • Received ipod shuffle as gift formatted for Mac.  I need to reformat for pc

I received an ipod shuffle as a gift. It was already formatted for a Mac. However, I have my own itunes library on my Windows PC. I want to reformat the ipod for the pc, but am having trouble doing that. Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to do?
    THanks!

The ipod I received was already formatted on a mac
and filled with songs from the gift givers itunes
library. I don't want it that way. I want to
reformat it for the pc and put my songs on it. I
have tried to restore, resynch, etc, but it is not
working, because it is formatted for the mac. All I
want to know is how to format for the pc (and start
over). I saw a post from an earlier discussion that
said that I could choose the device on My Computer
and right click and say format, but right clicking on
the device does not give me format as an option. Any
    ideas?

  • HELP: I can't enter the Time Machine for critical backups I need

I made a boo-boo today and removed a home directory that had everything in it.  No problem, I thought... just enter Time Machine.
Well, it isn't working.   And I did try removing the /Library/Preferences/*.plist for TimeMachine -- no luck.  I've re-selected the disk, no luck.
This is very disappointing, but I'm also a bit panicked.  I need that data restored.
How can I get this to work properly?
    Thanks.

    Forrest wrote:
Even though I turned off Time Machine backups, it just happily runs in the background.
Correct;  turning it off means it won't start any new backups; but if one is running, it won't cancel it.  You have to do that manually.
Also, restoral of files ended up getting interrupted as it said I didn't have permission to access something (and it didn't tell me what).
You can't restore an entire user home folder that way -- OSX won't let you delete the old one, as it's in use.  You should have gotten a message to that effect (although some of them are rather cryptic).
It also sounds like the backups may be corrupted.  Try to Repair them, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Your best bet, unless the backups are damaged, is to do a full system restore, per  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.

  • Why won't my Western Digital (2TB) My Book for Mac backup to time Machine?

This past fall (2012) I was notified by apple that the hard drive on my 2010 iMac might need to be replaced due to issues.  Before doing so I was prompted to back up all of my data with an external hard drive using Time Machine.  I purchased a Western Digital 2TB external hard drive and set it up easily.  The setup parameters were such that the thing should backup my iMac to Time Machine on the hour every hour.  This worked well and also allowed me to restore my user preferences for nearly everything when I got my computer back with its new hard drive.  This was around October.
Recently (mid-March), my WD My Book no longer backs up to Time Machine.  The computer recognizes the drive, allows me to access it, but will not backup to Time Machine.  I have no hypotheses as to why this has started happening, but it just did.  I have tried shutting Time Machine off and turning it back on to the particular external hard drive.  This has not worked.  I have tried to prompt a manual backup, but the computer gets stuck when preparing to back the drive up.  It never actually commences the backup.
I understand that just like anything else that things fail.  I also understand that sometimes things fail within the first few months of purchase (half a year-ish in my case).  I just cannot understand what might be causing it.  Any speculation?
Here are some screenshots associated with my current problems:

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
