OneNote prevents my computer from going to sleep when I have a shared notebook open. Suggestions?

Hello,
The issue is that my computer will not go to sleep if I have OneNote opened with my shared notebook loaded.
Background: I'm currently running Windows 8 Pro on a desktop machine with Office 2010 Home and Student installed. I log into the OS under my outlook.com internet account.  OneNote, which I always keep open, has my main
notebook shared on my SkyDrive.
Scenarios: The computer will go to sleep if I reboot the machine and do not open OneNote. The computer will go to sleep if I close my shared notebook, reboot the machine and open OneNote (with no notebooks open). The computer will go to sleep if I open
OneNote with my shared notebook, close it, AND exit OneNote from the icon in the system tray.
The scenarios I ran lead me to believe that OneNote is continuously polling my shared online notebook, thus preventing my computer from going to sleep. The is a regression from the behavior in Windows 7. Are there any configuration changes I can make to
fix this?
Thanks.

Try modify the settings under:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Multimedia settings --> When sharing media to Allow the computer to sleep

  • Computer not going to sleep when lid closed

My wife's new MacBook Air has a couple of problems we can't figure out.  First sometimes the computer is not going to sleep when lid is closed and when we lift the lid everything is frozen.
Second, the user Library folder is not seeable in her user account.  I know it's there because on the side bar there's a short cut to Preferences folder which we can open.
    Strange behavior.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Ron,
The user library folder (~/Library/) is hidden by default in Lion. I assume Apple doesn't want people mucking around with the sensitive files in there. So this is normal behavior.
As for the freezing issue, I would suggest you reset your power management and perform a safe boot to clear out caches. You should also see if the issue persists after disconnecting USB perhipherals.
    Here's how:
    Power Management:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Safe Boot:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

  • Preventing computer from going to sleep

Our main production software (IQue 5.5) is screwed up if the computer goes to sleep.  We put in an order for 10 mac minis running mavericks and then the new mini got announced the very next day and there is no stock left on the old machines and we were forced to try it with yosemite.  We got one system and set it up on one guinea pig, and so far the only real problem is that yosemite no longer has an option to set system sleep to "never" and it keeps sleeping at random points while the user is working and kicks him out of IQue.
Is there some way that we can get the (new dual-core i7 at 3.0GHZ) mac mini to never sleep?

For what it's worth, I've had that hpdot4d process showing up ever since I set up my HP officejet 5610 on my Mac, and I'm still running 10.4. I'm pretty sure this is an HP problem, not an Apple problem...

  • HT4199 How do I stop my Computer from going to sleep and disconnecting from wi-fi during downloads

Sometimes my iMac goes to sleep while I'm in the process of downloading updates, etc and disconnects me from my Wi-fi. Is there a way to change this setting?

Hello rnash62.  I understand you'd like to automatically log into your Administrator account when waking from sleep.
What notebook do you have?  Please identify it by the product number.  This document can show you where it is located.
What version of Windows are you running?
Once I have this information I should be able to provide you with instructions.
I hope you have a great day and an amazing weekend!

  • Is there a way to prevent MacBook Air to go to sleep when using Spotify?

I have a Macbook Air with the latest version of Maverics and I often listen to music on it, via airplay and headphones. This works great, but when I'm not using the computer for anything else but spotify it goes to sleep after the specified time and I loose the sound. I wonder whether there is  way to adjust the settings so that only certain programs like Spotify can prevent my Mac from going to sleep when they are active.
    Thanks a bunch!

You can upgrade the SSD on a 2012 MacBook Air using the following: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Air-Retina/Apple-MacBook-Air-2012-Drive-I nternal-Flash

  • Computer keeps going to sleep even though it is set up not to

I recently helped a friend set up his iMac to stream to his home stereo system so things like Pandora could be played throughout the house. The problem we are having is his computer keeps going to sleep and back to the log-in screen. In energy saver, we set the computer and display to never go to sleep. We also un-checked the box that says "put the hard disks to sleep when possible." Even after doing this, the display still goes dark and when the mouse is moved to turn the screen on it is back at the log in screen. This causes pandora to stop playback, which is not good since this is why we set up the streaming in the first place. Why is the computer still going to sleep when we are telling it to never do so?

    HI Ty,
Couldn't hurt to check the hard disk.
Follow these instructions to verify the hard disk for errors:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Select your disk, and click First Aid.
    Click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairs, do one of the following:
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Repair Disk. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.5 in the window and click: Restart
If you don’t have a Mac OS X Install disc, restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. As your computer starts up, it performs a disk check similar to the one Disk Utility performs.

  • How to stop the macbook from going to sleep

How do you stop my macbook from going to sleep when you close the screen? Like when you want to just move it around but do not want it to sign off or anything. Thanks guys

Well I just spent the past hour restoring my system after installing ismonia. I shut the lid and then reopened it. All was great, then the laptop wouldn't shut down. I tried to fix the disk with Disk Utility but it shut down on its own. It wouldn't startup.
If you try it make sure you have a recent backup.

    hy,
Is there any problem if  I Use Nosleep (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37991/nosleep) to keep my mac from going to sleep when lid is closed?

    1. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    2. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:

How do you prevent the computer from shutting down when in sleep mode and plugged in?

    Thanks tjk.
Those are great suggestions and got me looking in places I had not considered before. Unfortunately, the problem remains. The System Preferences did not have the shut down option activated and there are no parental controls active on the computer.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.

  • My computer is going to sleep and wont wake up by touching keyboard or mouse. I have to use the power button

Can anybody help? My computer is going to sleep and I cant wake it(bit like a teenager) by using the mouse or keyboard. I have to use the power button. Any ideas?

Hmm, that support link doesn't like me.
Do you have the discs that came with the computer? If so, put Install Disc 1 into the combo drive and boot up while holding the C key. Does anything show up on the screen? Do you hear the fan running? When running from a CD or DVD, the fan usually runs at a fairly fast pace and should make some noise.
Keep in mind that you have a 1-year hardware warranty with any new or refurbished Mac, so if something has gone wrong, you should be able to have it replaced free of charge, unless the MacBook shows some form of damage.

  • How do I keep my iPhone or ipad from going to sleep while using airplay to my Apple TV ?, How do I keep my iPhone or ipad from going to sleep while using airplay to my Apple TV ?

With airplay on, how to keep ipad from going to sleep? Same with my iPhone, with airplay steaming to my Apple TV, the phone or ipad will go to sleep. Settings?
    Advice welcome.
Thank you for your time, Eric

Yes, that is happening because of the app. Not all apps behave this way. For example, if you use the youTube app with AirPlay the screen will turn off but AirPlay continues. If you use the Netflix app the screen will not turn off and, of course, AirPlay continues.
The best course with the NCAA app would appear to be to supply power to the iPad and set Autolock to never. Turn the iPad screen intensity down.
