Ongoing Desktop Manager Sync Setup problem

Hello,
I am having the "Computer has to be connected to Internet" problem in trying to set up syncing for first time. I see this issue all over these boards as well as Crackberry and others. The first response is always referring to the vague and uninformative KB16471 article.  That post is usually followed by several others having the same problem then the thread stops with no resolution. I have turned off firewalls, antivirus etc, removed the 4.7 and installed the 6.0 removed that and installed the 5.0, all were removed with Revo uninstaller deep removal to remove old registry and file remnants verified BDM permission in firewall, looked for registry tweaks found in some responses to no avail, plugged in phone via back panel USB, ran Wireshark and Currports and not finding BDM trying to use 80 and 443, ran Spybot, MalwareBytes, Avast, and Hijack This, I am at my wits end and see no  solution being offered. I would appreciate some insight as this is about to be a deal breaker.
Thanks for your support.

Sounds like you may have a corrupt record in your address book/contact list.
    See http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB01451&slic...
This will turn on advanced synchronization logging to help find the corrupt entry.

  • Desktop Manager Sync Problem

I have the latest desktop and device software.  I can sync the BB with the Calendar in Outlook, but only after I added another Mail Profile as advised elsewhere.  When I try and sync the Address book (with Outlook's Contacts), the Desktop Manager just beeps and terminates.
In a support article it was suggested to delete the Intellisync folder and trying again; no luck.

  • Never ending Desktop Manager sync problem

I have the same problem that is all over the forums, web, etc. with synchronization hanging with my BB.
One of the more recent threads (http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Desktop-Software/Desktop-5-hanging-issue/td-p/3553...) had all the standard answers, reinstall software, pull battery, upgrade firmeware, etc.  None of these work for any long period.
None of them work.  Well, okay, maybe the first or second time.  But don't sync for a few days and then try it and you're back to the same problem. Then I have to pull the battery, wait 10 minutes for the phone to come back up and then sync and then it will work. Maybe. I've even had it fail between sync operations that were within 10 minutes of each other with the phone never be disconnected or used in any other fashion.  This is comepletely unacceptable.
Can someone from BlackBerry please, please, please address this problem once and for all.  None of the workaround solutions work for any length of time.  Not even out of the box which is when mine first failed after a first time install of everything.
What is going on here?  Last time I saw problems like this were on a Palm III.
Thanks again for your help.  Hopefully someone from BB is monitoring and will chime in.
For the record, I have a Tour (4.1.0.40 platform), on Windows XP (fully patched), Desktop Manager 5.0.1.
Thanks in advance and thanks for listenting.

    Hello again,
As I think I answered you in the referenced thread, these forums are not user-to-RIM...they are user-to-user. Hence, you should not expect any response from RIM. If you want to escalate to RIM, your options are through your formal support channel (typically your carrier) or to bypass (usually at a fee) and open a case-based ticket with RIM directly.
    Good luck!

  • BB Desktop manager - sync not working both ways on new Tour

Events from BB will sync with Mac but if I put an event in iCal it will not sync with the BB.
Message: A SYNC ERROR OCCURRED. PLEASE RETRY SYNC during calendar sync
    Contacts will sync both ways
    Computer: MACBOOK PRO
    MAC OS X: VERSION 10.6.4
    BB Smartphone Tour 9630
    v5.0.0.624
Desktop Manager software v1.0.4 (build 10) Currently says I am updated.
Worked the first time, when desktop override smartphone selected and appeared to worked for a couple of days then I started getting this error.  I did initially check out all the syncing, with trial contacts and events and had no problems for those first few days.
I tried to FORGET DEVICE.  Worked the first time, again when desktop override, but then stops working again and get same error message.
Only change was that I added another email account to the phone (mobile me account).
The main reason I went with BB over the other phones from my provider was to sync my calendars and contacts and now it is not working and I have only had the phone a week. So frustrated.
    Thanks,

    Hey raspes,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
When you're stating the BlackBerry Desktop Software is not able to find the calendar, do you mean it is not listed in the list of Calendars in BlackBerry Desktop manager?
Have you tried forgetting the device and then re-attempting the synchronization?
    Go into Device>Forget Device.
Once completed close BlackBerry Desktop Manager and re-open and it will ask you to re-setup the synchronization and all calendars should be listed now.

  • Desktop Manager sync issues: windows closes the program

I have Windows Vista and my BB Desktop manager is v4.5.  In the past 2 weeks I have been unable to sync my BB 8330 as windows closes the program after it compares the calendar in outlook and tells me I have an app crash.  I have read all the threads and instructions to remedy this problem, and have tried each solution, but to no avail.  I'm at a loss as to what to do now.
    Solved!

    Hi,
I have reread the entire post and I've got to tell you I missed the most important part.
Windows closes the program and Windows tells you there is a APPCRASH which is why there
is no reference to it in the knowledgebase.
Here is the correct forum: Microsoft Windows Vista Support
We will be glad to work with you on the Blackberry program side, this is a Vista error.
There are also many references to it on Google.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Desktop Manager Sync to Multiple/New Computer?

I have been successfully synching my 8330 with my desktop/Outlook using DM.  Now I want to sync with the Outlook on my laptop/Outlook.  I have DM and Outlook 2007 loaded on both machines.
Can I do 2 way synchs with 2 computers or will it be a problem?
If I cannot do 2x2-way synch, how to I change the computer that I am synching with (from desktop to laptop) without losing data and/or causing duplicates?
    thank you

I am doing a 2-way sync exactly as you describe (desktop PC at work, laptop at home, both running WinXP, and not using BB Enterprise Solution) and it sync with no problems. No duplication of entries etc. BUT I am having big problems (shared by others) wth using the recently-released Desktop manager version 5.x.x. upgrade (from previous v. 4.x.x.) - don't install this until the problem is sorted - see related thread in this forum.

  • Will Desktop Manager Sync with Sage ACT?

I have a customer who has a Windows Mobile device and is thinking of moving to a BB device as WinMo no longer works for him.
Will DTM sync with Sage ACT at all?
In the sync options you normally get the options of different programs to sync with, will ACT appear in this list?
    Thanks
    Tom

If I recall correctly, in the past Desktop Manager version 4.2.2 did sync with ACT!.
DM 4.2 is no longer supported by RIM.
The current support DM 5.0 does not. Sorry.

  • Desktop manager sync

    Hi there
Currently my desktop manager only syncs with my phone once when they connect via USB or Bluetooth.  (Calendar, Notes etc.)
Is there any way I can set the frequency so that it syncs every hour or so? I don't see that option.
    I am running version 5.
    Thanks

    Hi shaunjsmith,
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager can only be configured to synchronize automatically when connected or doing a manual synchronization.  Unfortunately there is no option to synchronize periodically while connected.
    Thanks!

When configuring the syncing options for my Blackberry 8800 World Edition in Desktop Manager 5.0 on Vista Business, I encounter the error "A session of that type has not been started." • Desktop Manager Sync doesn't work on new computer

I've been using an 8310 for a number of months now and syncing it with Outlook 2007 using Desktop Manager 4.6 without trouble on a laptop running Windows XP.  I just got a new computer running Windows Vista 64-bit and installed Desktop Manager 5.0.  After setting it up and clicking the syncronize button, the sync status window opens up for a about 1-2 seconds and then disappears, without syncing any information.
I uninstalled 5.0 and re-installed 4.6 but get the same results.  In both cases, there are no error windows that come up.
Anyone else have this type of issue and know what may be causing this?
    Thanks.

I've got the exact same issue. I am trying a clean install of the software to see if that changes anything.
I was wondering if the issue stems from where the information is being pulled from.  When I installed Outlook 2007 on this new computer, I made a backup of my .pst file & moved that over to the new computer.  Since the exact file name is no longer the same, I wonder if that is impacting the ability of the synch process?

  • BlackBerry Desktop Manager encountered a problem

    Hi all,
I'm very frustrated at the moment with a BlackBerry Torch 9800 that I have been trying to update the software on for the last week. I have Windows XP SP3 fully patched with BB DTM v 6.1 downloadhe BB UK site. When I plug in the device and click on update all I see is a window that says DTM has encountered a problem and needs to close. The process then aborts.
I am tired of trawling through the forums here and on other website for a solution to this issue, and I'm hoping that I'm not the only one who is encountering this problem.
Does anyone have an official solution to this problem, its very frustrating that RIM are unable to provide a quick and efficient solution to this problem.

I am having the same issue and of course cannot figure out what the heck is the problem.  It tells me something is wrong with the device in that it must be a dead battery or not charged which it is...
