  • Can't access online backup and sharing web site

Does anyone know how to access the Online Backup and Sharing web site from a computer that does not have the O/B/S software installed?  I used to be able to go to My Verizon/My Services/Internet and hit "Launch" for O/B/S, and the link would go directly to the web site for uploading or downloading material.  Now, that link takes me to a Verizon page that asks to activate the O/B/S service, and wants to download the software.  My O/B/S service was activated years ago and has worked until recently without the software installed.  There is no other obvious way to get to the O/B/S web site.  (If it matters, I tried this in both IE 9, with Windows 7 64-bit, and Safari.)
After some effort, I got the help number for the outside vendor that runs the O/B/S service.  They say that the Verizon web site should link directly to their O/B/S web site, regardless of whether or not the O/B/S software is installed locally, but that the failure to do so is entirely an error of Verizon's on the Verizon web site and they have nothing to do with it.  They also said there is no way to bypass the Verizon web site to get to a Verizon O/B/S account on their web site.  They said they have received many complaints about this from Verizon O/B/S customers, and that the same problem has even arisen when the O/B/S software is installed on the local computer.
So does anyone know if it is really necessary to install the O/B/S software on any computer used to access O/B/S, and if it is now impossible to access the material from any other computer?  That would be a major reduction in the usefulness of the service that was not announced anywhere that I know of.  I saw a strong of comments on this issue in the Forums from a few years ago, but the conclusion was that the problem had been fixed.  It seems to have arisen again.

Anthony, I tried to private message you several times, but I kept getting an error message stating that my message had invalid HTML that was being removed, and to resend.  It did not actually have any HTML, and hitting the resend button just led to the same message.
Also, since my last post, I downloaded the OBS software onto my computer.  This gave me access to OBS from that computer.  However, even after doing this, I cannot use the old method of directly getting to the OBS web site from My Verizon.  The link from "Launch" does not work either on the computer with the OBS software or on any other computer.  Rather, the link goes only to the Verizon page saying that my OBS service has not been activated (which it surely has been) and asking to download the OBS software.
If this is happening to everyone and not just to me, this means that material stored on OBS is only available from a computer that has the OBS software downloaded on it.  That is certainly not supposed to be the case, and it would make OBS much less useful.
Again, the OBS technical people said that this was a problem that they knew about, but it was entirely a problem with the Verizon web site that they could not do anything about.

  • Online Backup and Sharing issue

I am having trouble with the restore part of my Online Backup and Sharing.  Whether I select specific files or a folder, the history shows that the backup was successful, but when I try to find it in the list of files that can be restored, the files that I want are not there.
I can see the structure of folders and sub-folders, but the specific files are not anywhere in my restore list.
Also, there seems to be two different structures with some of my folders in one and some in another with some redundancy.  Neither is complete.
Is there a way that I can wipe what is in my online storage completely clean and start over?

  • Outlook Backup Using Online Backup and Share

I just started using online backup and share.  I selected the files for automatic backup including my Outlook PST and Archive PST(Outlook) Files.  It looks like my archive file backed up but not my main Outlook PST file.  Does Outlook need to be closed to have this file backed up?

Outlook does need to be closed in order for that file to be backed up. When Outlook is running, the file is locked as "Open and In Use" meaning until Outlook closes the file, nothing else can open that file.

  • Online Backup and Sharing

I've been trying to use this software but keep getting an error 1001.  So it won't install.
How can I get this fixed?

Hi MissMiguel, you would have to call into Verizon Online Backup and Sharing Technicians for assistance. Error 1001 could mean various different things including, not enough memory, the application log is full, maybe a version was download on one attempt and subsequent attempts are interfering, so we would have to instruct you on how to clear it. So please give us a call at 866 770-6800.

  • No web sign in access for Verizon online backup and file sharing - HELP!

I need to sign-in via web browser to my backup files in my Verizon Online Backup and File Sharing service. The Verizon site redesign redirects the old URL with a sign in to a sales page with no way to reach my stored files.
I contacted Verizon support more than a week ago about this asking for a URL with a sign in option to the cloud, was told that it was a problem affecting many customers (obviously eveyone with the online backup and filesharing service!) created by the redesign and that they would have a page created to allow login within 24 hours. I've heard nothing back and still have no access.
I made very clear that this was a HUGE problem for me, as I'm out of the country and rely on file access, and was on deadline for a critical professional project. The support tech I was on live chat with assured me they were working on it and that he would contact me via email as soon as it was resolved. Lots of apologies, etc. but now, a week later ... still no access and no contact. Astonishingly unprofessional.
When I tried again to find a link and/or contact support on Friday I was given no option to file a support ticket, chat with support or do any other kind of follow up. I've tried every search string option possible, including the name of the service with "sign in" appended (the Verizon nomenclature)--site searches a week ago for the service name returned null results. Web searches produce summaries from the old "My Services" page that include "sign in" but those links now redirect to the sales page that tells me how great it is I'll be able to access my files with a web browser with Online Backup and File Sharing. But no option to access the service.
Has anyone figured out a workaround or have a saved URL that still resolves to a Sign In portal?
I grow more desperate by the day. Thanks for any assistance.

I just wasted a lot of time on this same issue -- it turns out I couldn't find my way into the web application because I normally log into a subaccount, and you have to be logged into the primary. I had tried logging into the primary but apparently hadn't tried all possibilities from there.
So I chatted with Verizon support and got the phone number for Online Backup support, left them a message (because their hold music is so repellent I couldn't stand to remain on the line, maybe that's deliberate) and got called back about four hours later (and a second callback the next day, since I hadn't responded to the the voicemail they left on the first callback).
So here are the instructions (until they change the web site again...)
    1. log into the primary account (not a subaccount)
    2. click My Verizon
    3. click My Services on the left
    4. click Broadband Essentials and Extras (right under My Services)
    5. click the Manage button next to My Subscriptions
    6. click the Verizon Online Backup and Sharing xx MB button
The URL that it lands on is this:

  • Less redo generates at the time of online backup using RMAN

    Hi,
can someone eleborate that why less redo generates at the time of RMAN online backup in comparison of manual hotbackup.
    Thanks

A manual hot backup (aka "OS backup" or "scripted backup") cannot handle fractured blocks. This happens when a backup command is copying out blocks from a datafile at the same time as DBWR is updating blocks. The Oracle Block Size (8KB) is generally a multiple of the OS Block size (512Bytes to 4KB or 8KB, depending on the filesystem / raw device and how the OS command copies blocks out). It is possible for DBWR to write 8KB and the OS backup utility to be concurrently reading the same Oracle block as, say, two different 4KB reads. The first half of the Oracle block may be read by one OS call and the second half by another OS call -- the two halves would be inconsistent with each other if Oracle were writing the database block at the same time.
(Therefore a restore of such a backup would give you an inconsistent -- i.e. fractured -- block, which would be logically corrupt).
In order to handle such issues, after a BEGING BACKUP is issued, for every first change to a database block, the whole block is written to the redo stream, not just the change vectors. (If the same database block is subsequently modified while in BACKUP mode, it is only the change vectors that have to be written to the redo stream). Once the END BACKUP is issued, the redo stream does not need to capture whole database blocks.
If such a backup is restored, it still has fractured blocks. However, when applying the ArchiveLogs generated during the Backup, each such fractured block is "automagically repaired" because a whole image is restored from the ArchiveLog. (Subsequent changes are replayed as changes through the change vectors).

  • Hello like to do online backup and clone

    dear all
In our company we usually do cold backup's ... But i like to do online bkup by using alter tablespace beginbackup command... By doing this some of application got very slow... After taken backup we like to do clone with existing backup. But we not able to do so.. We got an error that System01.dbf file needs recovery... So we not able to recover it...
So what are all the steps we wanna to do for hot backup and cloning? Is this possible clone with the help of rapidclone...

    Dear all
We have around 450 GB disk..While issue command like "backup database " It stores to the default location under $ORACLR_HOME/dbs ... But we have around 360 GB of storage of datafiles.. So let me wanna to use test it also have the same space issue... So only we not use RMAN... I also tried to change the default location in to some other space ... It works ... But i dont know its possible to store some other machine via network... I.e i like to store datafiles into some other machine rather than same server....

  • Online backup and the Redolog mechanism

    Hello,
During a backup I understand that the redolog mechanism changes, so that when a block is changed for the first time after the backup commences, it's entire content is copied to the redolog files, rather than just the change vector.
My question is, does this happen even when the oracle block size is the same as the operating system block size?
My understanding is that the change in redolog mechanism is because a single oracle block can be made up multiple operating system blocks, so that within an oracle block a change can be done to a few blocks, then a read by the online backup, so that the oracle block read by the backup is inconsistent.
But if the oracle block size was the same as the operating system block size, each change would be atomic, so the problem of having inconsistent oracle blocks would not arise. So the change in redolog mechanism would no longer be necessary. Does the redolog mechanism change anyway?
    Kind regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
I will try to make the issue more clear eventhough so much useful has been written and said in this thread !!
During Online Backup the tablespaces enter the backup mode this has following effects:
    1) A checkpoint on TS level is triggered before the backup of this TS starts and DBWR writes all corresponding dirty blocks of this TS to data files.
    2) The SCN corresponding to TS Checkpoint remains Frozen in the headrers of all TS files until the end of backup mode.
    3) Every change in this TS is logged in the redolog on data block level instead of data record level ; not only the redo info for a modified record is written into the redolg but the whole 8 KB block containing this record ( immaterial whether OS block size is 8 KB or not). The reason for this granual logging is the possibility that
CPIO or DD may copy an oracle block to the backup medium in smaller units than 8 KB while the block is being changed by DBWR which can lead to inconsistencies whithin such a block.
Now When the backup later used for restoring the TS, all blocks written to the redo log during the backup mode overwrite therir "suspicious"versions saved directly in the backup of the data files.
    Hope this useful

  • Restore cold backup and RMAN backup

    Hi,
I have cold backup as well as RMAN backup. But i don't know how to restore the backup.
Please anybody send, steps or links for restoring both backups.
    Regs,
    Brijesh

The "script" would depend on how the backup was done.
A cold backup should be a backup of controlfiles and datafiles.
Was it done using RMAN ? Or done using an OS command (e.g. "cp" or "tar" or "cpio") ?
A non-RMAN cold backup can be restored with the same command that was used to create the backup. If the backup did not include the Online Redo Log files, you need to simulate a dummy recovery from the SQL command line (RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL CANCEL ; then CANCEL) and ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.
If the backup was done using RMAN, you need to
    1. RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/location_of_backuppiece'
    2. ALTER DATABASE MOUNT
    3. RESTORE DATABASE
    4. ALTER DATABASE OPEN

  • Mozy online backup and Airport Extreme

I am using a service called Mozy, that allows me to do unlimited backup to there servers. It was working beautifully everything would back up. Then about a month ago, it stopped. Everything I back up is on a external drive and that drive is connected to my airport extreme as an Air Disk. Im not sure if I reconfigured the airport and lost connection. Basically what happens is when I direct Mozy to look at the external drive it sees it, but when it is trying to read the data in it, it times it, basically it just goes like its thinking trying to see what is in the drive. My question is has anyone used this service and know maybe why this has happened? How should my settings be for Airport? Any suggestions?

Well, I got the Quattro a couple of days ago and it works perfectly with Time Machine but won't work with my gigabyte Airport Extreme. I see from other posts that Apple dropped this feature from their advertising shortly before it was released. I had already ordered the Quattro so too late. I had wanted to use the Quattro to back up the three computers in my house. Maybe a future upgrade to Leopard will make that possible. Anyway, if anyone wants an inexpensive RAID 1TB unit this is the least expensive I could find and so far works well with Time Machine as long as it's connected directly to my iMac's usb port.

  • Algorithm for online backup and restore of the entire grid

    Hello!
I am trying to write a utility program that backs up the entire grid data to a binary file and restores it at a later point in time. Assuming that the class files are not updated, I am using the following simple logic
    1. Use the cluster and CacheService APIs, get the names of all named caches of types replicated, distributed and optimistic
    2. Iterate through each named cache and use ExternalizableHelper.writeMap method to extract the data as byte arrays
    3. Create a custom datagrid object holding a map of byte arrays by names
    4. Write the custom object to a persistent storage
Similar logic to restore the data grid from the custom object on the disk.
    I have the following questions
    1. I am sure the above logic is not going to recreate the entire datagrid in the exact state it was backed up. For e.g. if I used write-behind, I must either flush or backup the write-behind queue. What other objects should
I consider backing up other than the data from the named caches? If I used the incubator patterns, I am guessing I need to backup the command objects and functor objects.
    2. I do not have a need for other cache services now. If I need to use the same utility across different grid configurations, what other services should I include for the back up (overflow, external, paged external) ?
    3. Are there best practices for such use cases? Any insights you can provide to enhancing this utility would be much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Regards,
    Sairam

    Hi Sairam,
If you want a non-intrusive solution then you cannot really use cache stores, as these would certainly intrude into the cluster. Cache stores would also not really be an option if the cluster already used another type of cache store - unless you write some sort of multiplexing cache store.
If your backup/restore solution needs to be a "client" (optionally over Extend) then you have two choices:
    1. Build something that is run whenever you want to do a backup - this would usually be an Extend client application. This application would then read data out of the caches and write it to disk. With this option a backup might take a while if the cluster is large but running the backup is pretty easy.
    2. Build something that is permanently connected to the cluster being backed up and uses Map listeners to listen for inserts and updates and stores the data to disk. This application could be either an Extend client or a storage disabled cluster member. With this option your cluster is always backed up in real time but you have the overhead of another process to manage.
If all your caches use POF serialisation then either of the above options could be written to just store the POF binary without having to deserialize it and could then be "bolted on" to any cluster. Re-loading stored binaries would need a bit of thinking about although a couple of options come to mind. If you just worked with the binary you might not need to worry about you backup application needing the pof-config of the cluster.
You backup application would need to either be told which caches to back up or be able to dynamically figure out what caches had been created. You cannot always do this from the cache config file if the cache names in the mappings section use wild card names.
As you can see there is lots to think about if you want to build something truly non-intrusive.
