Online Commenting

Hi,
I am using Adobe Liveccycle ES trial version for evaluating reader extensions using trial certificate.everything works fine when i open file using adobe reader.problame comes when i try to open file in a browser.i can view the comments created using reader.but i am not able to create or edit comments.
what would be problem in this case ? it it a problem related with reader plug-in used by browser ?
waiting for reply .....
thanks and regards,
Rakesh Parmar

I believe that the issue is due to the trial certificate, not the Reader plugin.  I don't believe that the trial certificate can be used to enable the online commenting functionality.

  • Reader XI and online commenting

    Hi all,
I need your assistance and knowledge on an issue we have with Reader XI.
We have developed a web-application that supports online commenting on PDFs. This is done by sending to the client fdf content, which retrieves the pdf from the server. User clicks on a link, a new browser window opens, the pdf is loaded in that window and user is prompted for credentials. After providing login info, all comments are downloaded and the markup tools are enabled. The pdf is sent to a livecycle server in order to rights-enable it before sending it to the client.
The above flow works fine for all versions of Reader except of the XI one. We recently downloaded the new Reader and although that the pdf is loaded into the browser window, nothing else happens. No prompt for credentials neither the markup tools become active. We have tested it on Windows and on Mac with the same results.
So far, I tried to (a) disable Protected Mode and (b) enable it and apply a broker file. Option (a) didn’t make any difference. For option (b), I created a ProtectedModeWhitelistConfig.txt and updated registry. I managed to resolve all STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED errors except of one:
Adobe Reader Protected Mode Logging Initiated
    Found custom policy file: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\ProtectedModeWhitelistConfig.txt
    Adding custom policy: EVENTS_ALLOW_ANY = *
    Adding custom policy: MUTANT_ALLOW_ANY = \BaseNamedObjects\*
    Adding custom policy: SECTION_ALLOW_ANY = \BaseNamedObjects\*
    Adding custom policy: REG_ALLOW_ANY = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\*
    Adding custom policy: REG_ALLOW_ANY = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe*
    Adding custom policy: REG_ALLOW_ANY = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing*
    Adding custom policy: REG_ALLOW_ANY = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joy stick\Winmm*
    Adding custom policy: FILES_ALLOW_ANY = \Device\*
    Adding custom policy: FILES_ALLOW_DIR_ANY = \Device\*
    CreateEvent: STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
    name: DINPUTWINMM
I’m not sure what is required for the DINPUTWINMM event.
    So the questions are:
Is Protected Mode responsible for that problem? As I said before, even if we disable it the problem still persists. Furthermore, on Mac, I don’t see how to configure Protected Mode, as the check boxes are not visible in Preferences > Security (Enhanced) (??)
If yes, then what do I need to do for the DINPUTWINMM problem?
    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thank you for your time,
    Stelios

    Hi Manish,
    Thanks for the reply.
I guess I need something like a starting point, for example a log file that I could look into (?).
How can I track down what is going on when Reader loads the document and tries to connect to the comments server?
Of course, this is a question to everybody who knowns.
    Thanks again,
    Stelios

  • Disappearing comments / Viewing wrong comments in online commenting using WebDAV

We are having an issue of disappearing comments / Viewing wrong comments for users
when they use online commenting using Adobe Acrobat 9.1.3 (WebDAV)
When user posts his comments online using send and recieve comments , the comments file is prepared directly under webDAV root (instead of an MD5 hash folder). The issue is seen when users posts his comments from Adobe Acrobat 9.1.3. When we checked the same with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 , 9.0.0 , 9.2.0 it worked.
What could be the issue ? Is it an issue specific to 9.1.3 or do we need some settings on Acrobat side ?
    thanks
    Nachiket

Just to be clear, you are putting those comments in a formula, not in the select expert or anything like that?
I got the same version of Crystal developer as you and I just created a new report, created a new formula and put in some comments and save the report and opened it and the comments are still there.
What if you create a new report and create a new formula with some simple formula in it.
    I used this:
    //This is a comment
    1=1;
    //This is another comment
    "This is a text"
If those comments disappear on you as well then something is really strange. There is nothing new in how comments are shown as compared to Crystal 10.
What OS do you have and what data source are you working on?
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • Online comments

    Hey guys,
I would like more information regarding the 'online comments' feature available in Acrobat version 5 and above.
This online commenting appears to be achieved by WebDAV. I want to know the server side implementation details - what configuration and web server setup is required to achieve this?
Additionally, I am aware that there is an Acrobat web browser plugin (used by a product called Zinc MAPS) that has comment functionality within it, all within a web browser such as IE. Where can I find out more about this plug-in? Is it under continued development?
    Many thanks

Wow. Exactly what i was looking for.
    Thanks a bunch.
...I'm surprised acrobat provided such functionality back in 05. Guess it isn't that long ago.
Anyway cheers again for the info.

  • Online commenting problem

We have had several issues with the Workspaces. When we put files out collaboration, we get errors stating the file cannot be found. Also, users are experiencing the server just spinning and spinning and will not publish comments and have to resort to creating fdf file. These users are also not able to see other's comments. I know you are retiring this product, but can someone tell me if this is going to be a common problem if I put it on my internal server? Also, does anyone have some kind of instructions on how to create one on internal server? We current use MacOX and PC. Some users are using Parallels for their PC. Please help. Thanks!

  • Adding comments to PDF in Adobe LiveCycle Workspace ES2

Is it possible to let Adobe LiveCycle Workspace ES2 users to add comments to a PDF document without having to download the document?
    How?
I have been trying many different ways for the past several weeks, but couldn’t find a way.
I tried to bring the attachment into a document variable and then using it as the input document for an assign task operation, after reader extending (including online commenting) it in the process. Tried different kinds of PDFs, including documents created from Adobe Acrobat, Adobe LiveCycle designer, static forms, with or without input fields, etc. Nothing seems to work so far.
    Any tips would be welcome.
    Thanks.
    Ali.

    Hi $Nith$,
I tried the same procedure what you had explained here. But,  I am unable to get the comments that entered while reviewing.
Here I am attaching my workflow.
Here I am entering comments in workspace for this document in reviewer stage.  I want to send this comments along with document for next stage (Approval stage).
    Thanking you in advance.

  • Comments rights (Use within Form Manager)

We are looking at allowing users to attach Reader Enabled forms as attachments in Forms Manager (This is so they can use the comments tools on the attached files).
But when we do this and the user clicks on the attached file, the comments toolbar is not shown. How can this be done?
We have noticed that if we save the form to the file system and open it within Reader then it works fine, it is only when the PDF gets opened in a browser that this fails.
Any help welcome, NB that we have been in contact about the greyed out option in RE but been told this is only enabled for certain partners, but we need this functionality to close a deal.

    Hi Max:
Do you have reader extensions 7.0.2? In the reade me file, for reader extensions, there's a "Enabling commenting in a PDF document rendered in a web browser" section that describe the details on enabling online commenting (within a web browser).

  • Unable to save LiveCycle PDF form in Adobe Reader: Steps on Adobe don't work

I went to follow the steps provided in the help video on Adobe. Two issues I couldn't solve:
How do you login to LiveCycle via the web as an admin? How do you get to the LiveCycle admin portal?
The local host (http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions) is unavailable. Every time I try to go there I get a 500 error message page. What is the new local host?
    The steps I followed were:
So according to a video on its official website, in order to enable LiveCycle forms in Reader so they can be saved you need an Adobe Reader Extension which means we need a Reader Extension Credential loaded onto the server. For that you need to purchase a Reader extension license from Adobe.
However, there is a trial version Eric or Jay could instal for me on the Remote Desktop. They can find it at:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle.html
They will want to download the “Trial Reader Extensions Certificate” under “Downloads and updates”. It’s a 30 day trial which should work fine for our needs.
The credential then needs to be imported into the Adobe Administrator. To do that they need to:
Login to LiveCycle as an admin (via the web?)
    Go to “Settings"
    Go to “Trust store management”
    Go to “Local credentials”
    Click “Import"
Trust store type should be “Reader Extensions Credential”
Give it a name (i.e. Alias)
    Browse to credential file
    .pfx is the credential file
    .txt is the password
    Right-click the .txt
    Click “Open”
    Copy password from notepad
    Close notepad
    Open the .pfx file
Paste in password copied from .txt file under “Password” in import form
    Click OK
Then there’s something about going to Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions program (http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions). Don’t ask. I’m personally lost at this point.
In Extensions program they need to:
    Select the Extensions credential
Click the check box next to
    “Basic form fill-in”
    “Import and export data”
    “Submit outside of web browser”
    “Database and web service connectivity”
    “Digital Signatures”
    “Commenting”
    “Online Commenting"
    Set “Draft Level” to “Final”
Click the check box next to “Full Save”
“Browse” to the SNAP Survey I created and saved on the server.
    Click “Apply”
    In new window that appears:
    Click “Download”
    Save back to the server

If you're on the machine that's running LC the administrator console is http://localhost:8080/adminui
If you're not able to get to localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions then I suspect the LiveCycle server is not on your machine.  If that's the case you'll have to find out the name of the server running LiveCycle and connect using that name instead of localhost.

  • Using Windows 8 64 bit Premiere Elements 12 , motion tracker gives me the folloing error; The media file seems to have an invalid entry in the catalog, please rename it for use.

I'm trying to put a graphic over an object, but I keep getting this error message; The media file seems to have an invalid entry in the catalog, please rename it for use.

    Thanks for the reply.
I checked the link that I posted back in post 3 of your thread. It is working with at least Firefox and Chrome.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE12: Motion Tracking/What To Use To Track Object?
    What browser are you using?
The blog post contains significant information related to Premiere Elements 12 Motion Tracking. But, if you cannot access it for some reason, then we will need to troubleshoot via communications in the thread.
SG has asked if you are able to create Motion Tracking effect using one of the graphics included with the program. We will watch for your response to him on that question. Please include in your message to him whether you can obtain your file to track the object using Organizer Tab or Project Assets routes as well as Graphics Tab.
The following is an excerpt from the blog post referenced....
    SOLUTION
Various tutorials and online comments have pointed to places other than Graphics Tab where objects can be selected and used to track the moving object in the video when the Motion Tracking workspace is opened in the Expert or Quick workspace.
Organizer Tab, Expert or Quick workspace to access Elements Organizer 12. Cascade Windows and drag a video or photo from Elements Organizer into the yellow track box of Motion Tracking workspace.
Project Assets, Expert workspace. Drag text, video, or photos from opened Project Assets into the yellow track box of Motion Tracking workspace.
Graphics Tab, Expert or Quick workspace. Create a png file (graphic) or prtl file (text) and place it in Clip Arts in the Program Files of the program to have a permanent resource. Then from Graphics Tab, drag the newly created graphic or text object into yellow track box of Motion Tracking workspace.
    Thanks.

  • Multiple Browser Based Review Crashing - Acrobat 8.1.2 / Acrobat 9.0.0

In Acrobat Professional v8.1.2 and v9.0.0, if two browser-based review windows are open and the Comments & Markup toolbar is embedded in both windows, when a comment is applied in one of the windows the Send/Receive button flickers and Acrobat crashes. This worked fine in v8.0.0.
Has anyone else experienced this - is there a fix!?

    Can be replicated as follows:
    # Create a Network folder: C:\My Documents\AcrobatReview
    # Set Online Comments Repository to: "Network Folder" and browse to "C:\My Documents\AcrobatReview"
    # Open a browser window, drag in a standard PDF (with no Zinc Javascript), click Ctrl+K to check Online Repository set to Network Folder.
    # Open a second browser window, drag in another standard PDF (with no Zinc Javascript), click Ctrl+K to check Online Repository set to Network Folder.
    # Enable Comment & Markup toolbars in both windows.
    # Make a comment in one window - Acrobat will freeze and crash.

  • Can I use the Registry to change the Login Name used in Note Tool?

If adding notes in browser-based review, you cannot edit the Author name used in the note tool. Its uses the fixed Windows login name shown in Edit > Preferences > Identity.
If you turn off the "Always use Log-in name for Author name" setting, the Author can be changed when adding notes in Acrobat itself, but the Author is fixed to the Windows login name in browser-based review.
Therefore, I was wondering if anyone knows if this can be changed in the Registry? I've found the login field name here (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\Annots\cAnnots\cAnnot\tauthor) but it unfortunately does not update the Author field.

    Good afternoon!
You can replicate this in Acrobat 8 as follows:
    - In Acrobat / Edit Preferences / Commenting, turn off "Always use Log-in Name for Author Name"
    - Open a PDF in Acrobat > Add a Note > Right-click Properties > General tab > Rename the Author to "TESTING" > Click "Make Properties Default" > Click OK
    - Set up a Network Folder Online Comments Repository as follows: In Acrobat / Edit Preferences / Reviewing, set Server Type to "Network Folder" and browse for a folder to save comments to.
    - Open Registry and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\Annots\cAnnots\cAnnot\tauthor
    - tauthor should be showing "TESTING" that we entered earlier
    - Open a browser window and drag a PDF into it
    - Add a Note, the Author name is fixed to be the Windows Login name.

  • Automated shared review

Here is my scenario. I am basically trying to recreate the shared review process offered through Acrobat, but do in a more automated way in a web environment. Plus I want every user involved to only need Acrobat Reader (my company would cover the costs for the additional software).
Below is a more detailed description of what I want to achieve.
    1. A user logged into our secure website can upload any normal PDF to our site.
    2. Once the PDF is uploaded, the shared review is activated and the webdav repository location is automatically inserted into the PDF so it knows where to put the XML files.
    3. Other users within our site could then see a link to the PDF. When they click the link the shared review process begins and the user can use the mark-up tools. When they publish the mark-ups (cloud, arrows, etc) it saves the XML data to the correct webdav folder so the next user can see it.
This all needs to be automatically and done behind the scenes, so the user does not have to do anything but upload the PDF.
There are two parts to this. The first being how to enable the mark-up tools when the PDF is uploaded to the site. I figured out that I need LiveCycle for this. The second part is how do I automatically embed the shared review webdav folder information into the PDF as it is uploaded to my site so the initiator of the PDF does not need to do it manually?
    Thanks

Thanks guys. That is a bummer.
We already have the trial version of LiveCycle installed. What is the "online commenting" check box for? When I check the box it does not do anything differently. The help menu is not completely clear on what it is for. It says "Online Commenting: Allows users to upload or download document comments. If you select this feature, Commenting is also automatically selected." That sounds like what I am looking for.
There is also a section in the help menu called "Enabling commenting in a PDF document rendered in a web browser". It talks about FDF files. Could that be possibility?
Is there anyway to programmatically add the webdav information into the PDF (similar to how Acrobat does it) and then use LiveCycle to enable the mark-up tools?
    Thanks
