Online Games and Java

Hi. I'm running a 2Ghz Macbook with OSX 10.5.2 and I can't seem to play any games online and the sites always say that java isn't compatible.
The site's I'm trying to play games on are www.playandwin.co.uk and also yahoo games. I've tried with both safari and firebox and same error everytime.
When checking java in the application part of finder, it says i've got J2SE 5.0 and 1.4.2 and i've tried both but still nothing. Any ideas or suggestions ? I've tempted to install windows but really don't want to go to that extreme if possible but really want to play the games.

Interesting fix. Being new to Macs I am not sure how that happened to you. I checked my Safari's info and Open with Rosetta was already unchecked. It's not that I cannot completely play Java games on Pogo, but if the game window does not crash, the game table will be blank and the chat text area will be shown, or the chat text area will be blank while the game table shows up.
It is frustrating. Still, I think it is more to do with the developers and web designers than with our out of the box settings. In comparison, the majority of Windows PC's can play games on Pogo, Yahoo, MSN, etc., without much more than downloading and install ActiveX.
If a Windows PC and a Mac both have the same version of Java installed, and all required platform updates are installed, respectively, what common sense reasoning would be behind the conflict that either platform would have with interacting with a Java based online gaming site?
The coders do not write for the lesser number of site traffic. Hard to swallow, but it is my honest opinion. Still, I gave up frustrations I could count on when I shut down my PC for the last time and I do not intend to allow a lack of gaming to get me down as a new Mac user.

Update your Flash from Adobe's website. If that doesn't work, tell the webmaster they aren't using a portable version of Flash that is as compatible with as many browsers as possible.

Hi!avid online gamer and using MAC book pro early 2011 got it updated to OS X 10.9.5 user need advice

I know it not really a very big problem but i just want to know if anyone could help me. i am an online gamer for only two years diablo3 and guild wars2.

Firefox usually will require you to approve installing an add-on (particularly an extension), because they have access to everything you do in Firefox.
I don't think most games require their own add-ons. You might consider trying some other games that just run in the Flash player.

Cell phone Games and Java

hi i have been programing apps in java for a little wile and was wondering how to make games for cell phone that are java enabled and how it would differ from normal desktop apps as there arent as many keys on a cell phone and the methods and classes i would need to extend and interfaces i would need to implement any help would be a greatful

Pogo games and Java 7

Anyone able to get Pogo games to work with the latest JRE 7? If I downgrade to the previous version all is well, but I like running the bleeding edge stuff so any thoughts are welcome.

Why won't my online games connect?

I have been trying to play Shaiya, Diablo 2, Lost Chaos, World of Warcraft, and other assorted online games and none of them will connect. I can get online without a problem, but this is getting ridiculous. The programs install and download just fine......HELP!!!

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source List
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

Online Games Problems With WRT54G Router

Hi There ppl,
I have a Lan House with 50 comps working, and most of my costumers are looking for online games entertainment (Cabal Online, Ragnarok, Dota, CS, 9 Dragon etc). We have an 8 Gb DSL connection and another one of the same speed for back-up (not running simultaneously at the moment). We should be having outstanding results for online gamming (and we were before installing the new router) but we are having several problems since we install a new LinkSys WRT54G router here. Our physical configuration is the modem, followed by the router, than three DLink Switches(24 ports) and my main computer. Everything cable
What we noticed is that the Internet connection looks normal (even using the command "ping", nothing strange appears, no timed out at all!) but online games (specially the above mentioned) have an intermitent connection. (Some times they connect, some dont)... Looks like it happens usually when I have the house crowded, but already showed also with it empty.
Another issue is that I am using the LinkSys Advisor to help identifying this problem, but I am getting even more confused, because its giving new information each time I refresh the "my network" window. Also happens when showing "My Network Settings" on the Support Tab.
Im using Firmware 8.00.0, what I think is the newest.
I didnt try any forwarding port issue yet, as I would like to receive more information about it (never needed to configure anything related before). Concerning the MTU value I already tryed withou any significantly result.
Please If anyone had the same problem, or have any idea of other possible tests, i would appreciate a lot.

Tks for your attention and reply to my issue!! Yesterday right after posting here (when we closed the doors and I could be able to work on it) I did get the latest one (8.00.2) and also set up manually the MTU value to 1500 (standard is automatic). I also unckeck the "anonymous internet request bock", "Multcast filter" and "Filter NAT forwarding", all of them were checked as standard. I also checked the "HTTPS Internet Access" (standard is only HTTP).
At a first moment I could get a very low sensitive better result (but the Lan was closed, so I had the entire 8Gb for my requests). I came back to work right now, and we have about 30 ppl in, mostly using the Internet, MSN and so... I am trying yo connect to Cabal Online, and GG-Esports (Warcraft, Dota) both of them giving the same problems as always... I am really getting tired and disapointed with LinkSys, I really though I would have much more than I am having right now.
Anyway I gonna keep trying each night to see what I cant get. I do post here If I find any solution (or if I really decided to move to another brand)

You need to post a link to the online game site that isn't working so someone can figure out what (plugin?) the site needs to work. Some popular plugins are listed here: [[Popular plugins]]. From your list of plugins, It looks like you already have Java plug-in 1.6.0_23 and 4.0.51204.0 (Silverlight) installed.
You also need to tell us what happens when you visit the site. (Do you see an error message? Does Firefox crash or hang?)

I have an online game project in mind, yet is Java the path to success?

I'm only a young programmer, and Java is the first language I have encountered, yet that hasn't stopped me from being ambitious! I am tired of sitting around dealing with toy problems, making silly applications in both the console and in graphics which take me no where. I've decided I want to plunge into the deep end of the pool, seeing as that's the way I find I learn best as an individual. Therefore I've spent a long time rigorously designing an online (browser based) social MMO game.
This project is going to sap a whole lot of my time, and I would love to go ahead with it, yet this worries me, seeing as it will not be much more than a year before I head to university, and I do not want to lead myself down a rabbit hole if Java won't provide me with the tools I require (I will not be able to learn another language over this year). From what I have gathered from my research and experience in the language, Java's diversity, high-level complexity, power, object oriented nature and class libraries will perfectly set me up for a project such as this. However, there is too much questioning these days as to how powerful it is compared to other industrial standard game scripting languages such as C++, many seem to disregard it out of what is almost concern over it's true power, and this seems unlikely to be resolved in the near future seeing as people seem settled in their ways.
Any thoughts out there?

Language has nothing to do with whether a game is successful It also has nothing to do with whether it works.
There are MMOs that have had very successful launches and those that have had bad failures.
I am not sure that really helps you however because what likely is a factor requires knowledge with a wide range of topics. And I would suspect that you don't have that knowledge.
However almost the only way to get that knowledge is to build something and find out for yourself what works and what doesn't.
Learning the following topics are likely to help you to get closer to creating this and also can give you at least some of the general knowledge that I referred to above.
- TCP and sockets
- Threading.
- JEE servers
- Graphic display issues especially related to distributed updates.
Knowledge of the first two extends well into other languages. Knowledge of the third can help in understanding the architecture of basically any business related client/server system. The last most extends to games but there are some other niches where the general knowledge is helpful.
In terms of producing something that actually works in a year I would suggest that you write down all of the main features that you want your game to have. And then attempt to cut everything from that list that you can. And of the items remaining minimize them to do as little as possible. That might seem extreme but it is more likely to let you get to the point where everything actually works. (Trying to build everything might be a good learning exercise but is unlikely to lead to anything that is 'complete'). If you succeed in building something smaller then you can add to it (which by itself is a good learning exercise.)
A very difficult knowledge base is dealing with the issue of 'size' in terms of of real MMO. When there are many, many people doing many, many things there are many, many ways that the game system can fail. There are no easy general solutions to all of the problems. The following site is not specific to games but does often provide insight into social sites. It provides articles specifically about large systems and ways people deal with them. The topics are very advanced but it is the best source I have found and there is no way to learn about most of it with practical experience one just has to keep reading and hope some of it sticks (which is what I do.)

Flash and java games not working

when i try to play online games that uses flash or java, they wont load, flash games just show the red F, IVE TRIED DOWNLOADING FLASH FROM ADOBE, but that didnt work, ive tried updating my software to the latest version, that didnt work either. ive also tried the update app, but none were found.
the phone is a nokia 5800 music express,

The flash app you're trying to play has to support Flash Lite, otherwise it won't work. Flash content has become pretty demanding in terms of hardware required to run it smoothly, or run it at all for that matter...
The question here is, did the content you're trying to view/play work before, and on which mobile phone? If you never had success in using the same flash/java apps/applets on any phone, then trying to solve your problem is feasible. If not - most likely you've run into a demanding app(let) which simply needs the full Java RE or Flash, and it won't work with mobile Java or Flash Lite.
Careful what you wish for... You just might get it.
