With Online Numbers, receiving calls on them using Skype is free.  You would only have to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription if you used Call Forwarding to divert calls to a telephone number.
If you purchase a UK Online Number, calls from them to your Online Number would be billed the same way as calling a non-Skype landline number in the same area.  It may be a local call, or - at most - a domestic long-distance call in the UK.  This sounds like the better way to go, as those UK contacts would have to pay for an international call if you had a Mexican Online Number for them to ring you on.  Again, it would cost you nothing to receive the call in Skype, but callers would pay whatever their telephone carrier charges to make a call to that location.
Now if you had people in Mexico who also needed to reach you via telephone, you could purchase a UK and a Mexican Online Number.  You can have up to 10 Online Numbers on a single Skype account.  I have numbers in these two countries, along with the USA and Australia.  Then people in those countries are either making a local call (possibly a free local call) or no worse than a domestic long-distance call to reach me.  Or they can use Skype, and it would be a free call on both ends.

  • Online number is not showing up in caller id

I live in the U.S. and my online number is not showing up when I call someone.  Is there a way to fix this

    unleashyourgeek wrote:
I am constantly having problems with clients not seeing my phone number when I call. Why is this happening? Your answer here was very short and not very specific as to how to resolve this. I have been fighting this for more than 2 months now but I keep paying for a number that people can't see when I call them.
I'm sorry I did not give an answer that met your level of specificity.  The original poster did not post the number he/she was trying to call.  This is also a worldwide forum mostly inhabited by Skype users along with some Skype employees who post from time to time.  I'm not a Skype employee, just a user who makes use of many features of Skype to avoid paying more $$$ to the telephone companies.
When Skype users have Online Numbers, these numbers are not automatically used as Caller ID when calling telephones from a Skype account.  This way, the Skype users hold the control over whether or not to have a working phone number show up as Caller ID. Most who have Online Numbers want them used as Caller ID, but the users - and not Skype - get that level of control.  In my opinion, that's a good thing.
The surest way to see the current Caller ID settings for your Skype account and change them is to log into your account on the Skype web site (use the "account" link on the upper-right corner of the Skype web site).  When you log in, you will see the current settings, and the link to make changes.  If you have Online Numbers that can be used for Caller ID, you can select them.  Online Numbers in the USA and the UK are examples of the numbers that can be used as Caller ID from Skype, and numbers from Mexico and Australia can't be used as Caller ID.  You also have options to use different numbers as Caller ID for calls to telephones in those countries, and have a "default" number used for Caller ID anywhere else.  In my case, my default number for Caller ID is my US Online Number, and my UK Online Number is used as Caller ID for calls to the UK.
Even with these settings properly configured, there are still occasions where your number (an Online Number, or a mobile number which has gone through the verification process with two SMS messages) will not appear on the Caller ID displays of the phones you call.  This is generally outside the control of Skype.  If you are using a number that is not a "local" number in the country that you are calling, it too may not show up on the Caller ID display.  Instead of posting on the community forums, using the Support link at the top of this page may be the better way to go.  You can go through the knowledge base trying to find a solution, and end up opening a support ticket with Skype.  If you have a subscription, you may be able to go to a live chat with Skype support.

  • Online number is not showing up when I make a phon...

I renewed my online number but it is not showing up on the poeple I calls caller id.

Skype Customer Support doesn't monitor these community forums.  Other Skype users do.  Please keep that in mind, if you aren't getting answers to questions posted here.
Getting back to the question of Caller ID, one way to turn on Caller ID is to log into your account on the Skype web site.  You should see a link to Caller ID Settings, which is also at:
    https://secure.skype.com/account/caller-id/settings
If you have certain Skype Online Numbers, you can select those numbers.  Numbers from some countries are not permiited as Caller ID.  If you have multiple numbers, Skype can use different numbers on Caller ID when calling those countries.  There is even a way to add a mobile number for your Caller ID when calling from Skype.
For me, I have online numbers in 4 countries (USA, Mexico, UK, Australia).  When I call from Skype, my default number for Caller ID is the USA number.  When calling the UK, my UK number shows up, and the USA number shows up for calls to any other place.
    Hope that helps.....

  • Online number does not appear as caller ID for out...

I have a Skype Premium account and an Online Number based in Stockholm, Sweden.
I have verified the Caller ID for my account is set for the Online Number starting with +468.
When I call my mobile phone (Swedish mobile operator), the ID appears as "Unknown".
When I call the Online Number from my mobile phone, the calling number is shown correctly.
    What could be wrong?

Note that I can receive landland originated calls to the skype account's online number.
Log into your Skype account here on the Skype web site, using the "Account" link at the top of this page.  Once you log in, you will see Caller ID settings.  If your number is from one of the countries whose numbers can be used as Caller ID (Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US), you should be able to select it and save that for your Caller ID setting.  If your number is from some other country, it can't be used as Caller ID when calling phones from Skype - and you would need to use a mobile number (except those from Japan or Mexico) that has gone through the two-step SMS verification process from Skype.

  • More than One Skype Online Number

I have a US online number and wanted to know if I can set up an Australian online number on the same skype account?

    geleotec wrote:

Yes, you can add an Australian Online Number to your Skype account.  You can add up to 10 Online Numbers on a single Skype account.  I have numbers from the USA and Australia, along with two other places (Mexico and the UK).
Note that if you want to handle calls to the Australian number differently than calls to your US number (i.e., use different settings if forwarding calls from each Online Number), you would want to establish a second Skype account and put the Australian number there.  Otherwise, if you are happy to use the same call-forwarding settings for both numbers, you can do that with your existing account.  Just log into your account on the Skype web site, go to the section for Skype (Online) Numbers, and purchase the Australian number.
For Australia, numbers are available for Canberra, the mainland state capitals, and other areas outside the capitals of the 3 eastern states (Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria).  Numbers are currently unavailable for Tasmania, the Northern Territory, and other areas outside Adelaide in South Australia and Perth in Western Australia.  Numbers would be considered landline numbers, and use the landline area codes for those locations - 03 xxxx xxxx in Melbourne, 02 xxxx xxxx in Sydney, etc.

  • Help - Skype Online number

I have registered a online number for hong kong and my parent can't see my phone number when I call them, aswell my parents can't call me with that skype number. Could anyone help me please?

There are two issues at work here - your Caller ID settings in Skype, and whether or not your number can be passed along to your parents' phone.
First thing... have you configured your Caller ID settings in Skype?  When you purchase Skype's Online Numbers, they do not automatically become your Caller ID.  You have to log into your account and set that up.  You can do that here on the Skype web site, using the "Account" link at the top of the page.  Note that not all of Skype's Online Numbers can be used as Caller ID.  I don't know about Hong Kong numbers, but those in the USA and UK can be used - and numbers in Australia and Mexico can't be used.
Even if you have set up Caller ID on your Skype account, there is still a possibility your number won't show up on your parents' phone.  This is out of Skype's control, as Skype works with partner companies in different countries to patch Skype calls into the telephone networks.
Next issue... receiving calls on your Online Number.  First, you will need to make sure your Privacy settings are set up to allow calls from anywhere on your Online Number.  I don't think this is accessible from the Skype web site, so use a Skype program on a computer to verify this.  If you are also using an Apple i-device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), you may also need to add the Skype app to the Notifications Center in the Settings menu.  Otherwise, the Skype app only rings when it is up on your device's screen.

  • How to get online number

Hi, Is there a link that walks you through this process? I have a client in the UAE who would like to reach  me via this phone option and I would like to know how to guide them. Thank you!

To read more about Online Numbers, click on the "Online Number" link at the bottom of this web page, or follow this link: Online number
If you wish to purchase an Online Number, you can start by logging into your Skype account here on the Skype web site, using the "Account" link at the top of this page.  Once you have logged in, click on the Online Number icon.  You'll see a button that will allow you to purchase an Online Number, where you would select the country, city/state/area code, and have the option to search for a string of digits in a number - or you can select one of the numbers offered on that page.
Online Numbers for some countries are only available for residents in that country, and are subject to a verification process before you receive the number.  Numbers in other countries (Mexico is one of these) have specific terms of use that must be agreed to in order to purchase the number.

What country is your online number in?
Not all of Skype's Online Numbers are eligible for use as Caller ID.  I know of at least two countries, Australia and Mexico, based on the Online Numbers I have.  My other two Online Numbers, in the USA and UK, can be used as Caller ID when calling telephones from Skype.  In some countries, this is either due to restrictions or limitations by Skype's partner providing that service in a particular country, or due to local/national regulations in that country.

No, you can't receive SMS messages on a Skype Online Number.
You can set up a mobile number as your Skype Caller ID settings, which would show as the sender for your SMS messages.  Then the recipients would have a way to reply to your SMS messages sent from Skype, back to a mobile phone instead of your Skype account.  This would work for mobile numbers from most countries, except for mobile numbers from Japan and Mexico.

It is possible that the Online Numbers from Finland can't be used as Caller ID with Skype.  There are some countries where that is the case, and I personally know of two (Australia, Mexico).  If you go into your Skype program, or log into your account on the Skype web site, you should be able to see what numbers you have available to use as Caller ID.  If your Finland number is not listed there, then it can't be used.

  • Country of Residence for Online Number

Hi everyone. This is my first time on the Skype Support Network.
I had a question about the Skype numbers, I've tried googling this but with not much luck so apologies if this has been covered already.
Do you have to be a resident of the country in which the number is for? I know that there is a list of countries which require you to provide proof of residence, but what about the ones that don't? Just because you don't have to provide proof, is it still expected that you can't have a number for a country you don't reside in?
    Thanks

There are only a few countries that have a local residency requirement.  For some numbers like those in Germany, a verification is done before the number is issued.  For others, there may be no verification done, but not having residency could be used as the reason to cancel an Online Number at a later time.  In that latter case, you would not have any recourse through Skype to keep your number, since non-residency would be cited as a breach of the agreement for the number.
I have Online Numbers in 4 countries (USA, Mexico, UK, Australia).  There aren't any residency requirements for numbers from these countries.  There is an additional set of terms for the Mexican numbers I had to agree to (mainly centered on not using the Mexican number for Caller ID), and the numbers from the other 3 countries were covered by Skype's standard legal statements related to Online Numbers.
