ONLINE number is TAKEN - WHERE'S SKYPE support?

I paid 1 year subscription for a number that someone else is using. I set up my voicemail and it still rings at someone else's number. However, when I place a call that caller ID shows-up, but it does not help because IT DOES NOT WORK AS MY ONLINE NUMBER!
I'd be happy to change the number, I just need some number to work ASAP! 
No one has offered a solution or help so far. This forum is more like blind leading the blind and I can't reach anyone at SKYPE support. Seems like going premium is the only way to get support - but if I can't reach anyone at SKYPE now - I can only guess how easy it will be to cancel the recurring monthly premium subscription!  How do I contact support or account so I could at least concel and get my $60 returned if they can't fix this? Thanks!

you need to go into your account, cancel your existing Online Number and then purchase another
the fact that the existing number has apparently already been allocated to someone else, perhaps not even a Skype user, is NOT uncommon in the industry, so I wouldn't come down too hard on Skype
note that canceling a Skype service normally just means NOT RENEWING IT, so to get the necessary refund you will need to contact Customer Support after you cancel, and provide the necessary details

    When I go to welcome to skype mattmcginn_hk, I do not see my online number anywhere.  But I received the following message on Sept 20.  After I reinstated my online number.  Why is that?

    what is the difference between online number and skype number please?

    UK English here, and in July 2015 it still (?) says "online number" for 12 months and "Skype number" for other periods. Do you test any languages other than US English? It sounds like you should assume this error (assuming it really is an error) exists for all langauges and update them all. It makes me very reluctant to buy. How do I know that there isn't some term and condition somewhere that says "X is valid for Skype Numbers but not Online Numbers" or visa versa? How do I know that X months down the line, I won't find that I'm unable to do something I want to do or am charged for something I wasn't expecting to be charged for, and I'm told that it's because I signed up for an "online number" instead of a "skype number" and that "the posts saying otherwise on the forum were in error, the details are on page 9,121 of MS terms and conditions..." - I've dealt with plenty of companies who do things like this.

    1)   I needed an 'online' number to call other skypes accounts ( on their mobiles, on their computer skypes etc.,) - and also I saw the Discount you offer "US & Canada" unlimited $2.99 / month. 
    My kind request ( I will not be traveling outside USA) : Please allow me to have online number at a discounted rate per month ( $2.99 / month instead of $18 for 3 months).
    Two problems here....
    1. The Online Numbers only work to *receive* calls from telephones on your Skype account.  They do nothing for calling phones. 
    2. There is no discount for an Online Number as you describe.  They are either US$ 18/3 months, US$ 60/year, or US$ 30/year if you already have a subscription to call telephones. 
    If you want to receive calls from telephones and make calls to telephones in the USA, you would need two items - an Online Number in the US at the prices I listed above, and some way to pay for the calls you make from Skype to telephones in the US (Skype Credit, or the Unlimited USA & Canada subscription at US$ 2.99/month).  You must have both, in order to be able to make calls to telephones as well as receive calls from telephones. 
    If Skype users you are calling run the Skype app on their smart phones or other devices, you would just call them on their Skype account name.  This would be a free call, not requiring an Online Number or a subscription (or Skype Credit on your account).  You need the subscription (or Skype Credit) only if you are calling those people at their mobile phone numbers, and only need the Online Number if you want them to be able to call you from a telephone and not from Skype. 
     2) transaction date is shown for my order number "626216569" says 6/19/2012 - 02:43 GMT.
    My question: when this will be effective for me to call my relatives and friends who have skype ( I don't have skype so I'm getting a skype 'online' US only number ).
    I hope this helps you to understand my issues - I thought my 'online' number will be ready by this evening , as I did my transaction yesterday ( but it is giving a wrong transaction date too).
    I'm really confused how long to wait to get this 'online' number... and I'm very very excited about this 'online' number that I'm getting , but I don't know when I'm going to get it.
    Again, you don't need to purchase anything if the people you are calling are also on Skype.  Call them using their Skype name, and it is a free call.
    As for what you purchased, you may want to click on the "Support" link above and file a request with Skype Support about that.  I'm not a Skype employee, so I can't look into the status of your recent purchase.

  • My online number never worked

    I purchased an online number in Edinburgh, UK and it NEVER worked (three weeks and counting). I can't find a tech support phone number or anything like that in the Skype site. There is only one email address [email protected] that is not being checked or simply ignoring my emails.
    I've been using Skype fore years and haven't had a problem before but now I'm beginnnig to feel ripped off. I find it ridiculous that the only way to get some tech support is this public forum.

    My online number I have purchased with skype and have had for almost 1year.  Recently I have been told by numorous people that when I call them a completely different number is showing up on there caller ID.  I am unsure what to do please help. Thanks

    Have you enabled Caller ID for your Skype account?  Online Numbers are not automatically used as Caller ID when calling telephones from a Skype account.  You should be able to go into your Skype program - or log into your account on the Skype web page - and enable Caller ID.  Note that not all Online Numbers can be used for Caller ID.

    If you have not enabled Caller ID for your Skype account, callers may see numbers that do not look like a "normal" phone number showing up when you call them.  Depending on where you call, callers may still not see your Online Number on their Caller ID once you enable that on your Skype account.

    If i have the same number, when i get an incoming call (whilst in wi-fi area), will the call go to skype (and thus free), or to my mobile (where i get charged an international incoming rate)?

    I have a Manchester, UK online number as part of my Skype subscription. I need to change this to a Bristol, UK number (my relatives have moved home), but after searching the "Online " pages I can't find any option to replace the number with a new one, only options to buy an extra one.  I tried buying a second one (extra expense) in the hope that a "change online number" option might appear but no - I now have two online numbers, one of which is of no use to me. 
    How do I delete the old Manchester one and transfer the new Bristol one to my subscription? In the older versions of Skype software it was easily possible to delete or change online numbers, why is it so difficult now?

    You would have to purchase a new Online Number in Bristol, and just let the Manchester number expire without renewing it.  Online Numbers won't renew automatically, as subscriptions do, so there is no harm in just ignoring it.  There is no option to change an online number.  If you just extended your Manchester number, you may want to contact Skype Support to see if there is anything that can be done to cancel that number and possibly refund the purchase price.  If you've had the number a while, there is probably nothing that can be done there.
    I've had Online Numbers for over 4 years on my Skype account.  I've never seen any options to change or delete them.  On the Skype web site, I can log into my account and extend the numbers beyond their current expiration dates, but there is no way to change or delete them. Online Numbers are separate from your calling subscription, except that you get a discount when purchasing Online Numbers when you already have a subscription.

    Okay, normally if someone calls me off their cell phone, they are charged minutes by their carrier.
    So, I'm going to Guam, I have a Skype Online Number, they call my number, do I get charged?
    Do they get charged?
    If it's from United States cell phone (them calling me) to my Skype Online Number, which is also from the United States, what is the charge?
    I was thinking and let me know if I'm wrong...The only charge would be to their carrier (like Sprint) where they lose minutes off their cell phone, is that correct?  Or is there a charge for them or me, to call my Skype Online Number?

    Well - not quite! Our Skype Online # is a regular landline # and the caller pays whatever his/her carrier charges to call a landline #.
    It's nothing to do with "minutes" (That's cellphone terminology).
    An Online # only works on land - not anywhere else.
    Thanks for the clarification. Yes, that is what I meant when I said "the caller foots the bill - be it airtime minute or whatever.". I am guessing my "whatever" and your "whatever" are the same. However, I did not make a distinction of whether it was considered as a "mobile" or "fixedlinephone/landline" connection. In the US, this does not make much of a difference, but yes, in countries like India (and others where skype offers Online-numbers), it does.
    Secondly, I can confirm and have proof that the Skype-in numbers work above land, yes they do . Skype has no way of telling my altitude. All skype needs is that I am "reachable" through the Internet. I am connected to my Skype Peer Network and can communicate using TCP/UDP.

    My Aussie phone number 08 9468 0017 won't work - people cannot call me.
    I have subscribed to this number till Feb 2012, and my account is not in arrears.
    Does anyone else have problems with a WA online number?
    Unfortunately I cannot get support from Skype directly, and I don't think this'll change in the future given MS's abysmal record.

    Strangely, I have just received a call on that number, - it seems to work from some phones and not others.

    I have a Skype Premium account and an Online Number based in Stockholm, Sweden.
    I have verified the Caller ID for my account is set for the Online Number starting with +468.
    When I call my mobile phone (Swedish mobile operator), the ID appears as "Unknown".
    When I call the Online Number from my mobile phone, the calling number is shown correctly.
    What could be wrong?

    Log into your Skype account here on the Skype web site, using the "Account" link at the top of this page.  Once you log in, you will see Caller ID settings.  If your number is from one of the countries whose numbers can be used as Caller ID (Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US), you should be able to select it and save that for your Caller ID setting.  If your number is from some other country, it can't be used as Caller ID when calling phones from Skype - and you would need to use a mobile number (except those from Japan or Mexico) that has gone through the two-step SMS verification process from Skype.

    According to our records, a charge for your online number has been refused, so you do not have any active number on your account.
    But normally can see online number on your account's page.
    After you log in to your account on: www.skype.com you will see in under "online number" tab.

  • Problem with renewing my online number

    Greetings
    I have tried twice in the past week to renew my online number, and on both occasions skype has refunded my payment 2-3 days later. There is no explanation for the cancellation, I just receive an automated email which appears as if I have requested the refund, as it contains this line: 
    "You'll no longer be able to use the service you requested the refund for."
    I do not understand why skype keeps refunding my payment and cancelling my subscription for this product ... has anybody else experienced this before?

    Firefox is completely free software. There is never any subscription fee or other charge from Mozilla.

    Hi, I'm trying to find out how I set the number of rings at which an incoming call to my online number will be sent to voicemail.  Presently, the line will ring 20 or 30 times before the voicemail picks up, I want to shorten that to something like 3 or 4 rings.  Thanks for your help, Paul

    If these two Online Numbers are on the same Skype account, no - you would not have separate voicemails for each.  The voicemail on your Skype account would be the same, whether the calls came in on either Online Number or directly to your Skype account name from another Skype user.
    If you need to have separate voicemails for each Online Number, you can set up separate Skype accounts for each Online Number.  This means that you would need to purchase Skype Credit or subscriptions for each account if you used Call Forwarding, as these two accounts would be unable to share Skype Credit or subscriptions.
