Online number - new

Question

Can I use my existing landline number for my online number?  Can I then cancel landline?  Will my old landline number still be "reserved" for me or can it be re-issued by a phone company to a new landline customer in my phone area?  Appreciate advice.  Jon

You aren't able to bring your existing landline number to Skype and use it for an Online Number.  You would have to check with your landline phone carrier to see what their policies are in terms of holding that landline number for your use in the future, or if you would have to pay for something like call forwarding to send calls from that number to another number - like a Skype Online Number - if you want to keep using the old number to receive calls on. Chances are very good that the landline phone carrier will only keep the number out of service for a short amount of time (used to be a year in much of North America, but now most carriers may only keep the number out of service for 90 days before it can be reassigned) unless you pay them to either hold the number or use a call-forwarding service with that number.
