Online Review With Adobe Reader and Version Cue

I am trying to set up a review system, and I have been using Version Cue CS3 as the host.
I have had success in setting it all up, and it is all working except for one problem. Any users using Adobe Reader (Versions 7 or 8 ) cannot comment on the files even though I have enabled the PDFs for "Commenting and Editing for Adobe reader". You can comment on the Document if you open the file directly, but not using Version Cue Server, which is browser based. Is there a way to make PDFs able to be commented by Adobe Reader users?
I guess my request is that you enable commenting in Adobe Reader when working in a web based system.

Arwind, sounds like spam to me. If you have a solution to the question, please say so.
Philip, I have had success with Shared reviews initiated from Acrobat 8 Pro and reviewed with Reader 8. There is not much to the process, you only need a shared drive that all users can access. If you have some users that cannot access the drive, then a WebDAV server may be needed, but adds extra complications. I have not had much experience with Version Cue server for PDF reviewing, but am interested in hearing more from other users.
Also, Adobe's Video Workshop has insightful training videos on Version Cue and Acrobat reviewing.

It sounds as if you downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you did, uninstall it. Then repair Adobe Reader.
The free Acrobat account has no connection to any of this.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader and IE

I'm using Vista Home Premium and IE9 with the latest Reader available.  Starting yesterday, I cannot read PDF files on the web.  This is a new problem.  I tried to download newer versions of IE and the Reader, but both tell me I've got the newest versions I can use.
I have no problem with Firefox.  Just IE.  I prefer using IE.  Can someone guide me -- without using technical language.  Many thanks!!

Thanks for your input.  I opened the standalone Adobe Reader X, clicked Edit, Preferences, Security, Advanced Preferences.  Then clicked each of the 3 tabs on top, but nothing looked like "Protected Mode."
Then I went back and clicked Security (Enhanced) and unchecked Enable Enhanced Security.  Tested this change, but I still get the gray screen and messages:  "A problem has caused IE to close."  "A problem with this website has caused IE to close and re-open the tab."  I then went back and re-checked Enable Enhanced Security.
I should mention that I have used this particular website for about 10 years and never had a problem.  But I now have the same problem with any online PDF that I try to open using IE.
Can you think of anything else?  If not, here's my plan of attack.  Please let me know if you think it will work.
    1)  Copy over all my favorite sites from IE to Firefox.  (I've already started doing that.)
    2)  Uninstall IE and re-install it.
    3)  If I still have a problem, uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install it.
Do you think this will do the job if all else fails?
Many, many thanks for the time you have put into this.

  • Why is Firefox nownot compatabile with Adobe Reader and Adobe flash 10.o?

The issue with Adobe Reader is when I fine the site I want using Google and the URL is a PDF file click on the site the document will not open.
When trying to down load and install Adobe Flash player I got a message the it was not compatible with Mozilla Firefox
currently I am running Firefox 6.0.2

Pat-Thank you for the tip on Firefox not using Adobe Reader plugin.  I would like to clarify a couple of things.  I do not use Firefox, ever.  I had installed it just to see if I could pull up the PDF files, assuming it used Adobe.  I went to the link you mentioned (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1158136) on Post 6 at 12:10 a.m. I tried the steps more out of curiousity to see if Adobe would work on Firefox, but could not figure out how to do it.
At this point though, my concern is I still cannot get Adobe Reader to work on either Vista IE 9 or Windows 7 IE 11.  I still get this message on websites:
To view your statement, you must have Adobe® Reader® installed on your computer.
Download Adobe Reader for free by clicking here.
I really appreciate your time and effort for all on this Forum.  I believe I may not be making myself clear though.  The Flash Player problem is resolved on IE 9 and 11.  But I have tried System Restore, Downloading from the Adobe and other sites when they give me the download adobe reader for free message, and my program manager clearly states the latest version of Adobe Reader is installed.  I cannot figure out where to go from here to get it to work, and as I mentioned before, up until a few days ago, Adobe Reader was working great on all my computers.
One other item.  I notice I am getting literally hundreds of emails about Adobe problems in my inbox from others on the Forum.  How do I stop them from going to my inbox?  Did I set something on the Forum which is making it appear I may be an expert on Adobe issues?  How do I correct this without creating a new email account?

  • Problems with Adobe Reader and Flash Player

I had an Adobe update last Monday and, ever since then, I can't view documents (eg credit card statements) on screen and sites that I previously visited regularly without problem suddenly say that I need to have Adobe Flash Player installed. I've downloaded Adobe Flash Player and it says it's installed correctly but when I return to the site, it still says I need Adobe Flash Player. I've also tried doing an uninstall first and then an instal but the same thing happens. I've run disk first aid and it found a problem with the Head which it fixed but I still can't open documents using Adobe in Safari. Adobe Plug ins tells me that the Internet Access plug in is not loaded but when I ran 'repair Adobe Reader installation", it said there were no missing components detected and repair was not needed. I don't know if it's relevant but I've been having problems with Safari for several weeks, quitting 3 or 4 times a day, mainly when I'm switching from Safari to another programme such as Entourage or Excel.

    Hi Carolyn
I don't think I made it clear on the original post that I'm having problems with both Adobe Reader AND Adobe Flash Player. Unfortunately, all the Adobe Reader sites are confidential so I can't give you an illustration on that but for the Adobe Flash Player, try www.jacquielawson.com/ - you can preview cards without being signed in. With the Adobe Reader problems, I get a picture of a blank 'piece of paper' with a small blue square in the top right hand corner that has a white question mark inside it. The first time this happened to me, I was on the UK Inland Revenue site trying to print out some end of year forms. I phoned the Revenue's helpline and they said to try doing a 'save as' to my desktop. It seemed bizarre - saving a blank piece of paper - but lo and behold, when I opened it on my desktop, the forms appeared exactly as normal. However, I've since tried this 'save as' technique with my credit card statement and I still get a blank piece of paper with a blue square and white question mark when I open the desktop copy.
Thanks for your help and patience. I really appreciate it.

  • Acrobat "Send for Shared Review" - Reviewing with Adobe Reader?

    Hello all,
I am experimenting with Acrobat's collaboration function and I think I am almost there...
    1) I built a webDAV server
    2) Authenticated the document with the webDAV server.
    3) Tested making edits to the document locally... in both Acrobat and Reader (I had to Save As Other the PDF as a Reader Extended Document)
    4) Now, I think I have one last hurdle to overcome.
When another user received the test file, I was dismayed that PDF asked the user for the webDAV user name and password. Why? This security information should be stored in the document. It should automatically log into the webDAV server.
Anyhow, once the login information was provided, the reviewer can successfully enter comments into the document. So... sort of success. :]
I just need to solve that login problem because I can't be giving out the user name and password to the webDAV server.
    Any ideas?

Yes,  it is.  Especially just about every WebDAV interface uses SSL/HTTPS to authenticate for access.
I understand that. Perhaps I am not explaining myself (or not understanding your reply)
What I am bothered by is that when the reviewer opens the PDF document, in Adobe Reader, the reader is asked to enter the user name and password of the webDAV server and then they are asked to enter their user name, email address, etc. That is a lot of steps I would love to eliminate in order to make the review process as easy and seamless as possible.
If anything, I would love to embed the webDAV authentication into the PDF.
Shall I presume that you are using PDF Shared Reviews with a webDAV server? Do your reviewers have to first enter the webDAV's user name and password and then second, enter their personal information, every time they wish to review a document?

  • Can't open interactive form with adobe reader mobile version

    Hello,
I have an interactive PDF document which I would like to open with my mobile phone (Android) and the adobe reader. If I open the document an error message appears.
Do we need to adjust the script to enable interactive forms also on mobile devices? The pdf document can be opend on my PC without issues.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Based on your description, I believe that the PDF Form that you are trying to open and fill out is an XFA form. Mobile Reader currently cannot display XFA forms. For these XFA PDF files, you will need to open them on your desktop Adobe Reader to read and fill the form.
    Thanks,

  • Saving form field data with Adobe Reader and Java script.

We would like to create some customized PDF documents with pre filled form  fields for our customers. The documents will also have extended Java script  functionality to check some entered data and to save the form data to a local  disk.
Our customers will need to click on their personalized link on our web page  and then download a pdf document with personal pre filled form fields  specifically for that customer.  From our site the PDF file will be dynamically  created and partly filled out with our web application. (The application uses an  external PDF library for the pdf creation).
They would then need to be able to edit the form fields and save/export  them as a pdf whilst offline.
The saving/exporting of the data should be implemented by the extended Java  Script functionality (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/js_developer_guide.pdf). Once the data has been edited they will send the pdf file directly back to  us.
The issue we have is with regarded to teh EULA for Acrobat Reader. If we  create those documents with an external application is the user allowed to open  those PDF files with his Adobe Reader without breaking the Adobe Reader  Restrictions in the EULA for the Reader?  (http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/Reader_Player_AIR_WWEULA-Combined-20080204_1313.pdf, chapter 3.2 Adobe Reader  Restrictions)

    Hello,
the problem which I have pertains only to the Adobe Reader. Because
our user will use Adobe Reader to open our pdf documents but it looks
like that the EULA for the Reader doesn't allow the user to open pdf
files which have the extended option to save data out of the form
fields unless!! this feature was created by an adobe product. But I
created the pdf file not with Adobe. So I don't want our user be punished...
It is actually a question of the law? departement of Adobe. But there
    is no Forum for that
Or could you please forward my forum question to somebody of this department.
I don't want to publish a product where the user breaches the EULA
every time they are opening it
    Regards

  • Windows 8.1 with Adobe reader

I am using windows 8.1 (64 bit) with adobe reader and cannot open and/or fill in pdfs, can only save them.....any help?

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Upon further investigation, it appears that the original pdfs I was transferring from my old computer to my new one were “grayed out” on the flash drive, so they wouldn’t open on the new laptop. When I went back and reloaded the pdfs again, they weren’t grayed out, and now everything’s working fine. But again, thanks so much for making the effort to help. I really appreciate it.

To fix my problem, i uninstalled adobe reader X with "Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Cleaner Tool", rebooted the server, installed Adobe Reader XI and rebooted again.

  • Error message with Adobe Reader

I get an error message saying that the application is trying to shut down in an unusal manner when I try to open a file with Adobe Reader.

Which version of Adobe Reader is it?
If the file protected or something?
Also did you try with different pdf files, from different places to see if it is specific to a certain pdf document or to all pdf documents?
Also, try uninstalling / reinstalling.. or repair the installation.

  • Concerns with Adobe Reader

    Good morning everyone,
So for several months, I have got trouble with "Adobe Reader" and I thought someone may help me...
As a matter of fact, when I install the software, he takes the control and I can't do anything. What I mean is the fact that all applications without exceptions (Skype, Excel, SAS, R, VLC, all files...) is executed by this software. And I can't understand why. I don't recall changing anything about execution program. Is there any manipulation to do ? Thank you in advance !

    What is your operating system?
If Windows 7 or Vista, try http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/application-file-icons-change-acrobat.html

  • Browser Hijacker uploaded with Adobe Reader XI

I got an alert that my Reader was outdated, clicked the link and uploaded Adobe Reader XI. I read the teeny tiny print to include AVD safegaurd - wasn't sure about that and unchecked. Maybe that was a mistake? In any case, the browser hijacker "Delta_Search" came in with Adobe reader and infected by computer. It's taken many hours and many attempts to dislodge that malware, but finally successful (using AdwCleaner). Any one else have experience with this - seems like I was victim of a trojan update alert.

Sadly, the original update probably wasn't from Adobe, but was a trick to get you to download more software than you wanted under a trusted banner. Many have seen this.

  • Impossible to review pdf with Adobe Reader 9.0

    Hello,
I'm trying to use the option in Acrobat sending pdf to review by users working with Adobe Reader but it
doesn't work as described in the help.
I'm sending the review with Acrobat Professional version 7.0 and the receiver with Adobe Reader 9.0.
Normally it should work as it is indicated Adobe Reader 7.0 or higher, but the receiver is not able to add comments and the toolset which should be provide according to the Acrobat review wizard doesn't open.
    Who can help?
    thx! Anja

With Acrobat 7 you can only send out Browser Based Review, (which is replaced by shared reviews in version 9).
The reviewers will need to open the PDF inside a browser, and have access to the location of the PDF to be reviewed.
Acrobat 8 can do both types still, have a look here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/8.0/Professional/help.html?content=WSB7237F9D-E90A-4c6 b-8C0D-58C7B2063B1D.html
And here's a tutorial for those situations whereby reviewers do not have access to the server location of the Reviewed PDF:
