Online self-paced courses accessible?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question,
but I couldn't find anywhere else seemingly more appropriate.
I am seriously considering purchasing Adobe's online
self-paced courses, Adobe Flash CS3 levels 1 and 2. However, I am
deaf so I am wondering if these courses make extensive use of
audio. In other words, do these courses require the ability to
hear? Are any and all videos throughout the courses closed
captioned?
I'd like to know if I will be able to complete these courses
without being able to hear. I'd hate to spend hundreds of dollars
on something that would be totally useless to me.
If there is a better place for me to ask these questions,
please let me know. I've searched for support by email, but only
found support by phone.
Thanks.

Lynda.com offers many of their courses with closed
captioning. You can pay about $25/month to have access to all
videos on just about any program you can imagine. It sounds like
the perfect solution to your problem.

  • Is the (stock) content the same across the online/self-paced, online/instructor-led, and classroom/instructor-led courses?

Apologies if this isn't the most appropriate forum.
My question is primarily about the LabVIEW Core 1 - Core 3 and TestStand 1 classes.
Is the stock content the same in the 3 aforementioned formats?  By stock I mean "excluding any additional material presented in response to a question asked by a student".
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The content should be identical.
The only exceptions I have seen is with certain demonstrations or exercises which can't be done without physical access to the system.
For example in the online Real-Time class you can't personally connect the hardware to the temperature chamber, so instead you can see the hardware already set up and interact with it.
Instructors often also add some of their personal experience to the classes and may explain differerent sections differently.

  • Issue with self paced online training.

I am have an issue with the Self Paced Online Training classes.  It is telling me that progress can't be saved.  If you have having this issue please let me know.  If you have solved this problem can you tell me what you did to fix it.
    Thanks for your time.

I remember using it with Chrome and it worked but there was some goofyness with the interface.  I think after each module I needed to exit, go back to the main menu for module selection and refresh, then pick the next one.  I couldn't just go to the next module.  But it definitely saved progress.

  • Abobe Self Paced Training

Will your "Adobe Audio and Video Online Training Library", "After Effects® 7.0: Working with Layers" give staff the skills they need
to edit the CCTV footage to blur/mask out a feature in the footage?
I need to get some training for our CCTV section to enable them to use After Effects on CCTV footage to blur images.
I want to know if any of the standard Adobe self paced learning products will be suitable - I have sent a letter direct to Adobe, they have pointed me to this forum.
Please let me know your views.

If you're just looking for standard "face blurring", there really isn't anything difficult to learn if you use COP BLUR. Just move the effect so that it follows the area of screen you want to blur out.
Of course, there are several other ways to do it, but the COP BLUR plugin is easy if you're just looking to blur images.
COP BLUR is in the delirium package

  • Synching Issues with Self-Paced Learning and Embedded Flash Files

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having some issues with my files not properly synching or displaying when Self-Paced Learning is active.
    Here is my set-up:
    Captivate 5
5 separate Captivate files combined using the Aggregator
Each Captivate file is about 15 slides
Each slide contains an audio file (for closed-captioning) and a single SWF file - the content is all created with Flash and then inserted into Captivate using Insert > Animation
Each SWF file is back 1/10 of a second from the beginning of the Cap timeline (otherwise there are rewind issues when the user selects the slide they are currently viewing from the ToC)
Each embedded SWF has the beginning and ending fade built into it; Captivate is not doing any fading
Synch to Project is selected for each embedded SWF (although it doesn't seem to work all the time)
Self-Paced Learning is active, as well as, Enable Navigation
It is not being loaded to an LMS or using any built-in Captivate quiz features.  These are instead custom built AS3 Flash files that are embedded.
    Windows 7, 4GB RAM, 1GB Video Card, High-end Processor, etc... a beast.
    The Issue:
When the user opens the course, views it for a while and then closes it and returns it will display the first slide of the course for a moment before jumping to the bookmarked slide.  This slight timing misstep causes the bookmarked slide to get out of synch.  It will sometimes not display the bookmarked slide at all or it will cut-off a small bit from the end of the slide (even with Synch to Project active).  It sometimes works fine but randomly will break.  The course is set to 100% preload and nothing is being loaded from an external location.  It seems to work fine until Self-Paced Learning is activated.
I don't think this is a common development approach for Captivate but it has been very successful with some clients.  Has anyone encounted similar issues or does anyone have some suggestions that might resolve this problem?
    Thanks!
    Greg

It's been mentioned many times on this forum that nesting Captivate SWFs inside other Captivate SWFs gives rise to all kinds of strange issues.  Captivate was not designed to work this way. If you choose to do it, and you encounter issues (as you have done) there's usually NOT a lot you can do.  There are just too many ways the SWFs can get into bun fights over which one does what.
I suggest you rethink your approach to avoid nesting.

  • How To Use RoboHelp 7 Self-paced Book

I have been asked to create RoboHelp HTML and RoboHelp Word
projects for networking software. The topics are done in MS Word. I
have always used FrameMaker and Webworks for online help but these
are not an option since the topics source files have to stay in
Word. Can anyone recommend a useful self-paced book that can get me
started with RoboHelp 7? I'm a quick learner with desktop tools and
need useful guidelines to figure out my way as I learn. Any pointer

  • Self paced learning/quiz/HTML5 issue

Back again! My current project has self paced learning in place. We definitely want the student to be able to return to their last spot if they exit. This works fine throughout the whole course in the swf and html5 versions, until the quiz. The swf version functions correctly in the quiz, and returns you to where you last exited. In html however, if you select "OK" upon relaunch, it takes you to the beginning of the quiz. "CANCEL" takes you to your last (quiz) slide. In both instances, the quiz submit button does not function and you cannot navigate.
I've tried numerous setting and have had zero luck fixing this issue. Any ideas would be appreciated because the client does want to keep self paced learning.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
I have a question regarding your post.  I have a quiz (created in Captiave 7) and I can not get the quiz to return to where I exited in the swf.  How were you able to do that?  Are you using an LMS?  Are you using the Quiz Results slide?  If so, what settings?
I have Self Paced Learning checked (in the TOC Settings) and I have a slide after the Quiz Results slide that closes the project (Project > Start and End > Project End Options: Action: Close Project) and whenever I try to go back in, I go to this slide that automatically closes the project.
On thing I was told on the forum is "Self-paced Learning bookmarking is disabled as soon as you turn on LMS reporting."  Again, I'm not sure if you're using an LMS but that was something I did not know.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Self-Paced Learning - Two learners on a PC

    Hi There,
I just wanted to confirm something with the TOC and self-paced learning.
If two people are sharing a computer and each is taking the same course with self-paced learning turned on - do they share the same cookie and therefore both resume at the same place?  Or if they logged into the same computer differently and used the course would there be a Captivate cookie for each separate login?
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you - that is what I thought but just wanted to check because I couldn't find it documented anywhere.
    Thanks so much!

  • Self-Paced Learning

    Hi,
I would like to remove the pop-up message "Continue from where you stopped last time?"; however, even though I uncheck Self-Paced Learning, it still pops up.
    I am using Captivate 7.0
I am NOT publishing to a LMS
I have unchecked the Self-Paced Learning check box
My published files reside on a ftp site
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,
If you have unchecked that option then it should not prompt this message.
Can you open your published output in any other browser, may be it is picking that course from browser history or cache, (if you might have published with self-paced checked earlier).
In whcih format have you published the output? .swf or HTML 5?
Have you enabled the reporting in your project?
    Thanks.

  • Self paced learning does not work properly in lms

I made a course and I want learners to go back to the point they last visited when returning.
The page last visited is remembered (It is stored in our database) but it is reset to 0 when the course is opened again.
I've tried al possible combinations in self-paced learning and 'resume data' in the quiz options.
In all combinations the page is remembered but set to 0 when the course is opened again.
What can I do to make sure the course does not reset the 'last page visited'.
I'm using Captivate 5 / and a internal lms we made ourselves.
    The quiz reporting settings are:
    The reporting option is enabled
    Standard AICC
    Complete/incomplete
    Percent
    Quiz results and slide views
    Report score
    Astrid

    Hello Astrid,
Too bad that each LMS has different reactions, are you sure it has this functionality. Here only the tips that are clear.
In the LMS Customization settings, check that 'Never send Resume data' is unticked.
You can turn on Self-paced learning in the TOC, but this is not a functionality about transmitting data to the LMS, it will store a cookie on the PC to have the user get back to the place where he left previously.

  • Aggregator V.5 self paced learning not working

. I have 11 individual projects that I have combined into one aggregated file. When I run the aggregated file, the self-paced learning is not working correctly. Here is what I know:
Captivate 5, WIN 7, Chrome browser. Clients choice of Captivate version.
Client is not using a LMS
All 11 projects have the “self-paced learning” checked in the TOC.
I have published all 11 projects and they run fine. I can exit the browser while they are running and restart each project. The box displays, “Continue from where you stopped last time?” and I can either resume or start over.
For each of the 11 projects, here are some settings:
    In >File>Publish settings>Project>Start end> Autoloader is checked
    In >File>Publish settings>Project>Start end> Autoplay is checked
    In >File>Publish> eLearning output=disabled
    In >File>Publish>ActionScript Version=AS3
I have republished all individual projects, and also checking the “Force republish all the slides”.
    Cleared the browser cache
All 11 individual projects (.swf and .html), the .js file as well as the aggregated file(s) (.swf and .html) are all located in the same folder on my hard drive. They are close to the top of the naming hierarchy.
Client wants to be able to use self-paced learning  in the Aggregated files to allow the learner to resume where they left off as well as starting over. I start the aggregated file, let the slides run for a bit and then stop, exiting the browser. I return to the location on my hard drive and click the .html file name. I am returned to the aggregated file at the very beginning and not given the option to start where I left off. I have checked each of the projects persistanceInfo.sol. Among the oddball characters, the wording "don'task" appears, but I am not sure if some of the characters are indicative of the "Don't ask" box being checked or not. I have reviewed each of the projects in the aggregated file. On each and every occasion, when I close and reclick the link, I am presented with the dialog box asking if I want to continue where I left off. Clicking ok allows the project to resume where I left off. Clicking cancel restarts the project at the beginning.
Additionally, I have made sure that the target file location is listed on the Global Flash Security settings as a trusted location.I have uploaded the files to a web server on our company site. Running the file from there provides no additional benefit-I get the same results.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks
    Jim

All slides in the presentation are marked as continue.  I have gone
through the first 5 slides and when I refresh the browser or exit out of
Internet Explorer and open the project again it just starts at the
    beginning.

    Hello Brenda,
How did you check: after uploading to a LMS?
You have to be aware of the fact that a slide will be marked as 'viewed'
only when the playbar has played the whole slide till the end. If you do
pause slides with a click box, button, TEB and attach the action 'Go to
Next slide' or something similar instead of the default action 'Continue'
this will not happen and the slide will not be marked as completed.

  • Does Self-Paced Learning require the Enable Navigation?

    Good morning.
I'm working with multiple Cap4 generated swf files aggregated into one swf/html project incorporating the Self-Paced Learning feature (in the TOC). After I published the project, I opened it & went through a few slides, then closed the project. The Resume feature would not work, so I selected the Enable Navigation feature along with the Self-Paced Learning feature, and now the Resume function works! Is this a bug? Is it possible for me to get the Resume feature to work without enabling Navigation? I have to control the sequence my audience takes in my project, so enabling Navigation is not desirable. Implementing an LMS is not possible in my circumstances.
