  • Online Training Options for Adobe FM 8?

    Hi there!
I'm currrently researching online training options for FM 8 on behalf of a software development company I'm working at. My department is currently very interested in switching to FM from Word and this is definitely an exciting time for us. For now, we're looking to acquaint ourselves with FM basics and its long-document management abilities.
Has anyone taken up FM 8 training via the Element K Adobe Online Training Library? How valuable and effective was this training?
Are there any other reputable and effective online training resources out there? If needed, I'm also open to on-site training in the greater Vancouver area of British Columbia.

It would probably be one of two reasons...
    1. Skype can't locate a company that provides the service (not likely).
    2. The costs for obtaining these numbers from a provider are too high for Skype.  Since Skype uses one price for Online Numbers no matter where they are located, Skype's cost has to be at or below a certain point in order to make it a viable option.

  • Training available for Multiscreen output?

    Hello,
For someone with a smattering of css knowledge and basic HTML abilities, the Screen Layout Editor in RH10, is "rather daunting" (to quote a presenter in one of Adobe's own seminars). The default screen layouts, and any free or paid screen layouts I have seen, do not meet our needs. Editing them is difficult. I saw a great class about just this topic, but unfortunately it was in the UK and I am in the US.
Can anyone point me to online or class training about this topic? (We do not need basic beginning RH training.)
    Thanks!

  • Media file thumbnails in browser say "media offline", but files are online and available for viewing/editing. How do I get a thumbnail of the clip back?

I am moderately experienced with FCE, but cannot figure out this issue. The thumbnails in my browser say "media offline", and no longer show a thumbnail of my video clip. When I try to reconnect the media files, the reconnect dialog box only checks for "online" media. I am able to view and work with the media files in my project even though it says they are offline. This issue seems to occur after a power outage. Its more of an annoyance than anything else, but I would still like to find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Figured it out.

  • I need help with working with old newspaper photos. The photos need to be blown up and displayed on a traveling exhibit. Is there any training available for this?

The photos are from newspapers going back to the early 1900s and they are now on microfilm. I can get them digitized at 600dpi but that still doesn't make them ready for placement on a large display. Besides Adobe help I use Lynda.com but I can't find anything dealing with this very specific topic. Anyone have an idea of a training program that deals with this subject?

Thinking back to when I've seen displays of newsprint that's been greatly magnified, being able to see the halftone screen pattern seems important.  It gives the display a look of authenticity.
You say the library can scan at 600 ppi.  If that's 600 ppi of a greatly reduced image on a piece of microfiche, it may not give you the resolution you're looking for, and it's entirely possible that getting a quality optical print then scanning it would give you better.
I don't see how you can plan how to proceed in anything like specific detail if you don't have an image that represents what you're really going to be starting with in detail.  Perhaps getting one scan might be a good idea.
After that, you just need to figure out what ppi your final overall panel design is going to be at, and upsample the newspaper clippings to match, so that they're the size you need them to be.

  • Any training available for Macbook air OS in Bangalore

Hi, I bought my MacBook Air about one year back. Any hands-on training would have helped. Registered at the STYRE institute in RT Nagar Bangalore. Yet to hear from them.

  • Best CS4 online training

    Hi everyone,
I am new to CS4 but have just purchased photoshop, dreamweaver, Illustrator, etc...because I want to create a website from scratch.
I have built websites before using front-end applications but have never had full access to the source code on my PC.
I have quite a bit of HTML knowledge, but I am an absolute beginner at CS4 products.
I have used some of the training videos on this website but I find they aren't quite enough for an absolute beginner; there are missing pieces and I find it hard to put it all together given my limited knowledge.
Can anybody recommend good online training resources for beginners? I have looked at www.linda.com but I'm not sure how much better it would be to pay $375.00 per year for access to the training videos when many of the same vidoes are available on the adobe website free.
I would greatly appreciate any recommendations
    thanks

I have yet to be impressed with any one training program that does it all.  Photoshop and Illustrator are sophisticated graphics apps.  Dreamewaver is a sophisticated Web authoring tool.  That said, if you have a good knowledge of HTML and CSS and how these two things work together in the various browser, you are 75% ahead on the "DW learning curve."   There are many on-line tutorials to help you.  A Google search for tutorials in PhotoShop and Illustrator will reveal many sites.
Don't bite off more than you can chew at a time.  Focus on one application.  When that starts to gel, move on to the others. Following are links to web-related sites that you should reference and bookmark.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 Online Training

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but I don't see one on training.
Has anyone take the SAP Online Training courses for Crystal Reports 2008?
    Did you find them beneficial?
Do you feel they provide adequate resources and train in a way the lends itself to helping you pass the certification exam?

It sounds like you have a really solid foundation for learning, so that will be a big help.  As to how useful the classes are for obtaining certification, it depends.  (Good) Instructor led will always be better, even if it's online, IMO, because a good instructor will be able to provide context to why you might consider doing something within Crystal Reports.  There are exercises in the classes, for example, on how to technically use a feature, but not necessarily instructions on appropriate use of or caveats to using the feature.
That being said, the certification exams themselves don't rely so much on experience as they do rote memory.  Thoroughly reading through the excellent Crystal Reports help file (one of the most comprehensive help files I've seen) in preparation for an exam can help greatly.
What do I mean when I say the exams are horrid?  Here's are examples based on my last exam:
It had a question about the proper name for a feature where the name doesn't exist in Crystal Reports or anywhere in the training guides (which I have, because I teach Crystal Reports).  I came back home, searched or the term in the help file.  It didn't exist...
I was asked 4 variations of the same question.   Seriously...  This can hose you, since most people will go back and verify they answered them all the same.  If one's wrong, they're all wrong...
There were multiple choice answer questions where it's really only important for you to know any one of the ways to do something, not every single way to do something.  Example:  Which 3 of these four answers will let you do X?  Why do you need to know all three ways when knowing one will get the job done? Does knowing that I can create a new formula by clicking a button or right-clicking make me more of an expert?  I had an interesting conversation with my boss the other day - we had a webex session going to review a report and everything she did was the opposite of what I would do (she clicked a button to create a formula and I right-click within the field explorer, for example).
I was asked a question for which there were two possible answers out of the four, but only one was allowed.   I could be right, but still get it wrong.  That's really irritating...
The tests are frustrating, to say the least.

  • Removing songs etc. from iMac that are available for re-download

My iMac's space is low, and I'm considering removing the iTunes content that I bought from iTunes, since I understand that it is available for re-download from iTunes when I want to listen to it/watch it again. Is that correct? What's the best way to do this quickly? Thanks.

    No, not 100%.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - After you download your purchases, back up your iTunes library. Previous purchases might be unavailable if they've been refunded or aren't on the iTunes Store.
^^ The distributor has pulled them from the Store.  This particularly goes for movies where they may still be online and available for purchase but the distributor will not permit re-downloading.  Always read the fine print and make the most pessimistic interpretation.
Me, I wouldn't trust any online service to not suddenly change the rules and I make a copy of everything I download on an external archive drive.
Buy an external hard drive.  Better, buy two (one for backup).  Move your library to the hard drive.  Yes it is annoying but people want small computers (= small drives) and big media collections (= big drives) and nobody has come up with a great solution so far.
The re-downloading things is a travel convenience but not a substitute for backup and archiving.

  • Online Training for Administrators?

How would you rate the online training for CRM administrators provided by Oracle?
What books are available for learning CRM administration? The deployment guide is not really a nuts and bolts book on administration.

My degree is educational psychology, I've been teaching FCP since version 4, been teaching all of the Final Cut Studio apps since FCS2, been teaching apps for various software companies for 3 decades.  Here's my professional evaluation.
The "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X, Professional Post-Production" by Brendan Boykin is hands down the BEST book on the market.  The eBook version has been updated to version 10.0.2, also.  If you purchase the eBook version from Peachpit Press, you get the EPUB, PDF, and MOBI versions all together, and the updates for the EPUB are free.
Online, the best training will be Ripple Training, by far.

  • Online Training or Tutorials for Oracle 9iAS Portal Release 2

Is there any available online training or tutorials for Oracle 9iAS Release 2 that we can download? I checked the FAQ for release 2 and it looks like there are a lot of changes in building pages, content areas and portlets.
    Thanks.

We'll probably start to release this kind of stuff between the launch and Oracle World Copenhagen - June 02
Currently we have not published any online training materials.
    Thx

  • Can anyone recommend online training for a non-developer?

I am a new user of LiveCycle Designer (8.0).  I jumped into form design without any training.  I can design very basic forms.  However, I know absolutely nothing about writing script.  I'm looking for a recommendation for online training I can take just to help me do some basic script writing in LiveCycle.  I don't intend to become a programmer or a developer.  But, I would like to be able to create some basic calculations and scripts.  For example, I'm working on a training registration form.  I've got three check boxes (I'll attend session 1, I'll attend session 2, or I've been excused) and I'd like each selection to run a different sub-form.  I'd like to have all three subforms hidden until the corresponding selection is made.  I've gone through the help screens and have a very general idea of what I need to do, but don't have the knowledge to execute it.  I appreciate any and all suggestions.  Thank you.

I can't help with online training, although I have found this very forum
very helpful just by searching and digging around, I often found someone
who has asked the question before me.  Also there are some (although only
a few) good books available that help with just the thing you are talking
    about.
For your specific example though (I wont attempt to convert my code to
your example but I think it should be easy to convert once you look at
    your own form.):
If you put this javascript on the "change" event of the radio button group
containing your radio buttons you should be able to do what you want -
modifying it to your own specs, of course.
    if (this.rawValue == "2")
            { Q1No.presence = "visible";    // Display the Q1No Text.
    else
    { Q1No.presence = "hidden";// Do not display the Q1No Text.
The value "2" is the value of the radio button - found on the binding tab
of the object palette - you will need to alter that to your own example.
Q1No is the name of my hidden subform.
You will need to also have altered the "Presence" of the subforms to
"Hidden (exclude from layout)" found on the FIeld page of the Object
    palette
Hopefully this heads you in the right direction with your own example
