Online video won't play, have tried downloading plugin

I can't seem to figure this out. New MacBookPro, 10.4.10 OS.
I can't view video at the BBC website, and I can't figure out why. All I see is the jigsaw piece with the cue to download the plugin. I've tried that, have tried updating software just in case, have gone to RealPlayer site and downloaded the free player.
The only thing I can figure out that it might be, is that the BBC site is configured I think to play on the older version of RealPlayer. The only one that can be downloaded now on the RealPlayer site is the new Beta (that's redundant, isn't it...)
What do I need to do so that I can view video on the BBC website?

I don't know what version of Real Player you have installed, but try uninstalling it and installing this one.
I use Real Player in OS X, I can see the BBC video, and it works flawlessly. (I'm using the 10.1.0 (490) version from the above link).

I tried everything and no luck, below are things I did
1. Check/Update all latest Flash Player, Shockwave Player from adobe.com
2. Get latest Silverlight (v.5) installed
3. Latest Jave 7Update60 installed
and the video still not playing except the commercial. it gave error message 'sorry, clip not found. Media not found'. I clicked OK then it gave me a black screen. This is online video.
I also tried managing add-on as suggested by adobe to make sure shockwave add-on is enabled and also tried both on and off activeX filter, still not working
This is a show stopper for my deploying windows 8.1! any help is appreciated, thanks.

What's the browser do you use? Internet Explorer or Chrome? According to my experience, this problem probably caused by ad block add-ons. Please check if you enable any ad block extension in you system.
In addition, if you use security software, such as avast, please try to disable them temporarilly for test.

Online videos won't play - URL not valid.
When I try to stream videos online with quicktime there's either a Q with a question mark or an alert that says "The URL is not valid."

Firefox should find QuickTime automatically, so it's puzzling that it's not listed at all. Here is a diagnostic approach used on Windows. I am not 100% sure this works the same on a Mac as it does on Windows, but here goes:
(1) Make sure automatic plugin scanning is enabled
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
In the filter box, type or paste '''scan''' and pause while Firefox filters the list.
If '''plugin.scan.plid.all''' is not set to its default value of true, double-click it to switch it to true.
You're done with this tab.
(2) Rename or delete Firefox's plugin registry file
To open your currently active Firefox profile folder, use:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit. Pause while all windows close down and Firefox updates the files in the profile folder.
Rename '''pluginreg.dat''' to pluginreg.old or similar, or you could delete it. You are done with this folder.
Restart Firefox and see whether it finds QuickTime now. Any luck? -
MailOnline videos won't play in Firefox unless in safe mode although they're fine in Explorer.
It's for my mum, honest. Firefox 25, java and flash uptodate but the Mail Online videos won't play unless I start Firefox in safemode. A large white rectangle appears but nothing else.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?
It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.

Videos won't play in Safari. Notice says, "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video." I have downloaded it, but no change. All videos play OK in Firefox, but I like the controls in Safari better and want to stay with it.
Try deleting Flash cookies.

If that doesn't help, UNinstall the old Flash plugin first, then reinstall new.

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

Should partitioning the hard drive not work is it undoable?
Will this have any impact on doing a complete erase and reinstall and will that restore it back from the process?
Is there a limited amount of space that makes this process ineffective?
I have never had to do this sort of thing so I just want to be sure I don;t wind up in the dog house *)

Videos won't play. Not YouTube or any other videos (just started today). I also have no sound, keypad clicks, shutoff click, etc. Are these common failures for a three year old Gen 2 iPad?
For the issue with the videos that will no longer work, try closing all apps and then reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
For the issue with sounds, you have system sounds muted.
Check the side switch above the volume rocker on the side of the iPad. Flip it the other way and see if you get sound from the apps, keyboard clicks, etc.
If not, double tap the home button to bring up the task bar at the bottom. In the task bar swipe all the way to the right. Look on the far left side and see if there is a speaker icon. If there is, tap it and see if the sounds on apps come back. Then tap the home button.
You can change how the side switch works to either lock screen rotation or to mute system sounds. You can go to Settings>General>Set Side switch to Lock Rotation or mute. If you choose mute, the switch will turn off apps sounds. Otherwise you use the task bar as described above to mute those sounds.

Videos won't play in powerpoint when connected to projector
I've tried to find a solution for my problem online but haven't come across anyone with the same issue. I often work with powerpoint presentations with many videos in it. The videos play just fine on my laptop and also when hooked up to an external monitor, which I use when at work, both in slideshow mode and when previewing my animations. However, when I hook up my mac onto a projector the videos won't play - not on my laptop screen nor on the projected screen. I've tried rearranging the displays by draggin the menu bar to either display and also switched from mirror screens to presenter's view within powerpoint but nothing helped solve the issue. The only solution I found is to play the presentation on my windows partition - which is not really what I'm planning to do for long term...
I'm using Powerpoint 2011 for mac and this problem has occurred using multiple projectors.
Any help on how to solve this issue is highly appreciated!I had the same problem today in front of an audience with 300 people (MacbookPro OSX 10.10, Thunderbolt-VGA adapter, PPT 14.4.6).
Here what I figured out so far:
1. It happens when you have PPT open and connect to beamer afterwards
2. You can resolve it (in my case) by quitting PPT and launching it WHEN connected to beamer
3. Yet, make sure Mac does not go into sleep mode or you get a lock-screen in the waiting time. if you do so, you get back to square 1. quit PPT again 2. restart it.
4. Also.... in one case I had to hit the volume control once to get the sound back even though movie was playing
So in short: Connect to beamer first, then launch PPT
I know it is only a symptom fix but it worked for me -
Help me please, games crash on launch, youtube videos won't play.
Whenever i start up sound blaster cinema it just crashes, it will be fine for about 10 seconds, then it just crashes, it will usually freeze up everything when it crashes only thing i can do is move my cursor around, it will unfreeze after 10 seconds or so as well.
I have tried to update sound blaster cinema but there are not updates available.
It would usually go back to normal after a shutdown or a restart but this time it wasn't having any of it.
Can anyone suggest anything that i couldn't think of?
The crashing first started a month+ ago, but today when I was playing L4D2 a boomer explosion crashed L4D2 and sound blaster cinema simultaneously and now sound blaster cinema won't stop crashing after launch.

I went and downloaded thee intel(R) driver update utility 2.0 went to find drivers and then to auto detect and updated my drivers.

Ipod Nano won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages...
My first generation Nano was initially sent back to Apple due to the battery losing it's charge to quickly. They sent me back what appears to be a replacement Nano and now this one won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages of bands, shared from friends (unprotected mp3 files) or otherwise downloaded from the internet.
Whats unusual is that any songs imported from a CD to the Nano play fine as do any songs purchased from iTunes. I know Apple has stated that any files the user wishes to play on their iPods will play as long as the format is compatible. (All of these songs in question played on the original Nano and the problems started when they said they fixed it and sent it back (although it is missing the engraving which to me indicates they gave me a refurbished Nano). My Applecare runs out in mid-October so I need to figure out what is wrong. I sent it back a second time and they told me they couldn't recreate the problem so they just updated the software and sent it back.
Someone suggested that some iPods have a part of the firmware activated (which Apple may have been testing) that prevents any non-ITunes store music or music no t off an original CD to fail to play.
When attempting to play downloaded songs from sites like Purevolume and MySpace the iPod plays for a few seconds then shuts down and restarts itself, all of these songs worked fine before Apple took it in for service.

I did a little bit research on this discussion board and this problem seems to be known for quite a long time. It`s confusing me Apple is not able to fix that prob or give customers quick introduction to resolve the prob.
I am currently on vacation in Florida and just bought the new iPod 30 Gig. I transfered already songs from my music cd. That worked fine.
I bought 2 music video files, synced them with no error to the iPod, but it only shows me a black screen when I want to start the video on the iPod itself. itunes plays the files with no problem.
Any ideas how to fix it??

Ralph, Thanks for replying. There where no received SIP messages at all just the INVITE being sent but I have made some more progress. The mini does indeed just work. I can do everything that you are supposed to do to other ichat users on the internet. Very nice.
The imac is still playing up but I have got further. I had peerguardian2 installed which unknown to me doesn't need to be running to prevent you for accessing 'barred' IP addresses. snatmap.mac.com is barred in the lists! I discovered this when I saw one of your other posts showed how to turn on terminal logging for ichat. Now that I have turned off peerguardian2 (using the disable filters option) I can make calls to the testbot and see the adverts. I have even done a video conference with the two testbots. I will just uninstall peerguardian2.
However, I can not get a AV chat working to a real user....

I have tried all the options for quicktime streaming but will try 1.5Mb/s again.
The ichat bandwidth limit is set to "none". I am in New Zealand and I have standard ADSL (not ADSL2+) 7.6M down 512K up. The mini config is also set to none.
Internet sharing is off.
I have had parallels on the machine but the two interfaces that it installed "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" are configured 'off' and show as not connected. Is this enough? I will uninstall parallels and see if that helps since I don't use it. I also have VMware's thing installed but that doesn't seem to add any interfaces.
I need to capture a full trace of the imac to other ichat user to see what is happening but will update when I have does your suggested changes or have a trace

Certain youtube videos won't play in Firefox
Firefox 20.0.1, windows 7, flashplayer up to date.
Certain youtube videos won't play. The advert beforehand plays, and then the video just displays a black screen, no loading, trying to skip to a later time in the video doesn't work. It seems to be certain youtube users whose videos won't play, users whose videos I was able to watch only yesterday. The featured video on the user's channel is watchable, but not when opened separately.
IE won't show the affected videos either.In addition to these symptoms, I've noticed that I can view these troubled videos on my cellphone just fine, but neither my XP or Win7 machine, which have all software updated can view. So if it was on youtubes side, it wouldn't work on my phone either.
