Online Videos/Tutorials/Overviews ...?

Good Morning,
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
In the near future my organisation will be making the switch to CS6 (currently CS5.5).
My role currently as a Graphic Designer means I tend to to use mainly Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.  I am hoping my role will be extended to overseeing use of our various users of CS throughout the organisation.
With this in mind, I feel the need to get a better grasp of what all of the components of CS can do and their main functions.
Can anyone advise of any online videos/tutorials etc which give a run through of the applications within CS and perhaps after that, one's which go into a bit more detail on each application.  I know I won't be able to master them all (not that I've mastered any really!), but it would be really helpful to my case for the new role.
Thank you in advance!
Si

  • Video Tutorials DVD Studio Pro 4

    Hello,
Can you please advise where can I find online video tutorials to learn how to master the DVD Studio Pro 4. I do not see that Apple has a video tutorial online - for the extended and advanced window of DVD SP.
    Thank you

  • Best online training - video tutorials

Although I have seen some threads earlier on the training programs but just thought get a latest update from the forum members.
Please suggest me a best online site that has the best tutorial (video tutorials)to learn FCP. And also cheap like lynda.com. I am looking for mainly a video tutorial rather than the book version.
    thanks all

    Hey Jim
Google is such a basic thing anybody would do, I was hoping to get advice from experienced seniors on the subject and not to teach me how to google.
All the site you identify in google may not be too good, before you enroll somewhere and loose money I wanted to make sure.
You dont have to term 'google' under your initiatives...even a baby these days would google. I already have a long list of sites with me after doing a google research for over a week.
If you really have used those sites please suggest but try to proove your intelligence here, I didn't force you to give me the reply.
Finally please keep in mind, dont expect everybody who posts here is a dumb or fool

  • Online videos are no longer working, how do I fix this?

I have just very recently downloaded a trail version of Adobe Flash CS5 onto my laptop. The version of windows is Windows XP, and the program itself is running as well as it should.
I thought it would be helpful if I went to youtube to see if there were any video tutorials that could help me get started with the program. Unfortunately, right before a video will play, the browser will say there was an error, and close, and then re-try to open the page.
This problem has never happned before I installed Flash, so I can only assume it had something to do with it. Everything else on my system is running smoothly, I even checked every file and processor twice for any signs of adware that I may have picked up accidently.
The only thing I cannot see is a video online, it shuts down Windows Interenet Explorer. Before I take any other action to fix this situation, I would like to know if anyone could please help me solve this problem.

I'm sorry, I don't believe I was clear enough. The video itself on youtube, not my own, is not
playing and shutting down the web browser.
I don't really understand what you are trying to explain to me.

  • Every time I watch any online video mac mini has kernel panic

Everytime I have attempted to watch any online video, (World Cup, online seminars, Photoshop tutorials, even a couple of times on youtube) this mac mini just shuts down and forces a restart.
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ron

  • Online Video Editing Courses/Videos, Adobe PP, Help?

    Hello,
I really want to learn how to create films like this type of style/editing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9hxz0Kb-n0
I am a traveller, and photographer, so my style is pretty much travelling, capturing scenery and cutting video and music together, with the skill to do interesting chops, transitions etc that give off a certain feel, mood and passion like the video above.
I have the DSLR gear for video, as I have been doing photography for several years, the very basic skills to edit simple clips together in Premiere Pro, but I would like to work with sound, faster chops, transitions, I want to take it to a more deeper level, so I can create films like that video above.
This is what I have made so far, but it was nothing more then simple edit of clips together thrown over with some music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdKT8t_XBJk
Can you recommend me any GOOD sites to learn Premiere Pro / Video Editing in this style or type of editing?
I have tried a few, but I get incredibly dry of motivation in tutorials when they are not really relevant (like learning to cut an interview when I want to create films like the above, etc)

Are you talking about the art of editing, as opposed to the mechanics? I believe the art -- trying to visualize what you want to see -- comes before the mechanics of how to do it, and most app-specific tutorials are about the mechanics and leave out the art.

  • QuickTime flickering during Video Tutorials?

When I am watching the Video Tutorials for any of Apple products my QT flickers dark and light, not to the point where I can't see the video, but to the point where it is annoying. Anyone else having this problem? This is on a 4 day old new MacBook. I have the most recent version of QT installed.
Anyone else having the same issue?

MACBOOK QUICKTIME VIDEO PLAYBACK FLICKER ISSUE
Well, this is the first time I have been so far out on the front end of a new problem with a new computer purchase, so I guess I have the responsibility of raising the "noise level" on this defect. I certainly want a "fix" sooner rather than later.
After speaking to a relatively nice guy at Apple (Steve H.) last week, I did extensive diagnostics on my own, and sent a VERY long email to Apple explaining the problem in great detail providing information pertinent to engineers (along with affected video samples) in addition to sending in a "data capture file" of my new MacBook's status.
I later found out my diagnostic email was not forwarded to the engineers because of questions they sent back to me, indicating that they never got the detailed report after viewing my data capture logs.
Today I spoke with "Catilin" - not an engineer - (apparently the engineers are insulated from speaking voice to voice with customers). Caitlin informed me that since I did a clean install of the OS before one of my tests, that is proof that my video files are corrupt and there is no defect. When I then asked if it is possible that Apple could ship a faulty product, she answered, "No."
Sigh... where are the scientists of the world when you need them?
Anyway, for those of you out there with the problem, I will not post my long detailed report here. We all seem to be experiencing the same issues anyway. I just wanted to confirm that you are not alone, and apparently not a small number. When customer service tells you that you are the first person they have heard of with this problem (as they are mostly saying now), know that it means nothing. There are a lot of customer service people, and even widespread problems take time to be common knowledge among support staff.
Please make sure you tell customer service that this is a KNOWN ISSUE among users. Dozens of people are certainly contacting Apple about this problem now, but they have not yet issued an internal memo so that all customer service personnel are aware of it.
I will attach the latest email I just sent to Steve H., who just left me a cryptic voice mail message explaining how we should use third party software to play back videos and how we should use easily obtainable online apps to convert our video clips to other formats that might not be affected by the defect.
Please note that I am not trying to be negative about Apple here, but it would seem from my communications so far, only the engineers (scientists) are open to evaluating this problem rationally, and unfortunately I am currently forced to speak to the engineers through the filter of "not so highly intellectual or scientifically trained" customer service persons.
So, please spread the word when you call Apple and make sure they are aware that you have read about this problem from other Apple customers online.
I am tired of this issue and do not have another 20 hours to invest. I hope someone else will take a turn moving this problem forward with Apple and post your results here. Maybe if we work aggressively in shifts on this thing, someone in a position to do something at Apple will finally hear about it.
    Steve,
I did not understand your voice mail.
What do you mean by, "There is not really much more we can do on this."?
Incidentally, it affects more than MPEG 1 files, as is evident in the detailed email I sent to you.
Did you mean to say, there is not much more you can do about it now, but it is being worked on?
Is it Apple's official position that this defect will not be resolved and we must always use third party software to play standard video clips (as suggested in your message), instead of using Apple's defective software shipping with MacBooks?
I must assume you misspoke in your email message.
Did you mean to say to use other programs and convert videos to other formats in the interim while Apple's engineers work on a correction?
Has it already been determined that all new Macbooks have the problem, or only some?
Obviously, if it is only some, I need to return mine to get a MacBook that does not have this defect/conflict/ or whatever it is.
I hate to say this, but as is evident by your just received voice mail and you not being aware of the different affected video formats I wrote about in great detail before, you are apparently another technical support person to go down in history as not paying close attention to an important and detailed diagnostic email before replying.
It is doubly surprising to see this behavior in you, when in my earlier email I went out of my way to explain and warn against this all too common and bizarre phenomenon of customer service persons not paying attention to helpful diagnostic email before replying to the treasured customers who went out of their way to prepare and send such email.
I can't keep working for Apple for free on this issue, especially when I am not receiving coherent responses to my testing and kind diagnostics work.
Please consider me retired from the "MacBook Development and Leopard Beta Testing Team", until such time as it is decided to compensate me adequately for my generously donated time.
Fix it, tell me to exchange for another unit, or tell me the problem has been acknowledged and it is being worked on. Or reiterate one last time that it will not be fixed (as you suggested in your last message) and I will know I must return the defective computer and consider other options in life.
I have no more time for any other responses from you.

  • Question about online Illustrator tutorials

    Hey guys,
I wanted to ask - has anyone ever paid for online Illustrator tutorials when learning Illustrator?
If you have, how did you find it, would you recommend it for beginners?  If you've never bought an online tutorial, would you ever consider doing so and why/why not?

If you've never bought an online tutorial, would you ever consider doing so and why/why not?
No. Because anyone with the necessary interest (stick-to-it-iveness), a brain, and grade-school literacy should be able to learn to work mainstream graphics programs like Illustrator from the provided documentation. This stuff is not rocket science.
All you really need is the self-discipline to thoroughly read the provided documentation start-to-finish and work through  what it describes as you go. Actually performing the operations as you read helps you retain, and also combats the inherent boredom, because you will find yourself inclined to take little "experimental side-trips" as the understanding bells go off. Do that as you go, but always return to where you left off and don't skip parts.
Supplement that with just a few carefully selected books. You can waste a small fortune on mediocre aftermarket books that largely or even mostly just rehash the provided documentation in an attempt to broaden their audience.
Supplement that  with whatever real-world exposure/experience you can access, pertaining to your delivery media. If you're illustrating/designing for print, that means where-ink-hits-paper experience. If you think you can escape print as  a career illustrator/designer, you probably need a reality check.
Online tutorials are 90% crap, because the vast majority of their authors are beginners themselves--intermediate users at best--who are just enamoured with the program, think they are more expert than they really are, and are seeking notoriety. The tutorials are incomplete, seldom use proper terminology, and seldom reflect best-practice. And the beginner, of course, does not yet possess the discernment to judge.
The provided documentation is basic, as it should be; not whiz-bang, gee-whiz instant gratification. It's therefore boring, but it does what it needs to do: lay a general foundationof understanding of the program's fundamental capabilities and "logic"--without alot of needless unproductive anecdotal drivel--which you then begin to use to your own creative advantage.
Video, unless very well produced, is arguably the least efficient method to learn anything the least bit technical, because it is not information dense. You can call digital video "random access" if you want; but even if you jump around in it, you still have to watch it linearly, suffering through every word, "clever" annecdote, etc., etc. everytime you just need to pause and think a bit on a particular phrase, or "re-read" a sentence. Written prose is carefully written and edited for thoroughness, accuracy, and efficiency; not sloppily narrated.
It's common-sense that you can see in anything. Seriously consider how many hours-worth (weeks-worth, months-worth) of linear video you would have to watch in order to gain the same level of understanding of, say, your car, as compared to reading a single proper service manual, and keeping it handy while you are under the hood.
Like several here, I've been doing this stuff everyday, all day since its beginning in the mid 80s. I have yet to meet a single college or tech school instructor that I would consider an above intermediate level user. Most, I'd call rank beginners, if even that. They just teach out of the Adobe-sanctioned "Classroom In A Book" manuals.
Be honest with yourself: Why are you seeking alternative learning methods before you've even read and worked through the provided documentation? I'm convinced the true answer is practically always simple laziness. Too many beginners think they can get some kind of magic shortcut toward proficiency. It just isn't that way.

  • Adobe Livecycle online/video trainings

Hi, I would like to know if there are any online trainings available for Adobe Livecycle, covering Adobe Designer, Process Management & Reader Extension in the coming few weeks. We would like to nominate 2 folks from Capgemini, India.

  • Very Good Speed Grade Video Tutorials

    Hello Everyone.
I Highly recommend this Video Tutorials By: Lynda.com on Speed Grade.
The Instructor done a great job Teaching.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear.
I mainly wanted freely available tutorials that I could direct others to on the FCE and other forums. Frequently newcomers don't know where to start, and I don't have time to write a new manual, so it is very efficacious to be able to point them to a site with free tutorials.
That LiveType source I quoted is excellent. So now, basically all I am looking for is a similar one for Soundtrack and FCE/FCP.
The first one you linked is probably fine except for the download time which would probably have taken several hours per tutorial, which is going to put off many newcomers looking for a quick-fix.
I must admit I also like looking at tutorials (I never used to!) because every one of them has a different angle and it's surprising what you can pick up, that you have missed in others.

  • Great Garageband video tutorials: MacForMusicians

As you already know there's an endless choice of sites to visit to learn more about creating Garageband projects. MacForMusicians focuses on helping you get the most out of Garageband via clear and simple video tutorials. I signed up for the free basic tutorials and was so impressed I extended my membership to Advanced.
What sets MacForMusicians apart from other sources of information is that the presenter, Quentin Bradley, is an accomplished musician and obviously a big fan of Garageband. He has mastered video presenting to deliver running screenshot commentary as he walks you through various aspects of creating Garageband projects, its various tools and how to use them.
Once you've created even the most basic Garageband project and got a general overview visit macformusicians.com and checkout one of the Garageband Tutorial videos. I think you'll soon agree that this site is a pretty good way to learn. The video tutorials will even play on your iPad.
I sign up to a handful of resources for Garageband, macformusicians.com is free to join without a credit card or obligation. For me the low cost of Advanced membership is insignificant with what I have learned. This is not just some kid in his bedroom on YouTube.

  • Mini-DVI to VGA - online video freezes when dragged from MacBook to LCD TV

I connected my MacBook to my LCD TV this morning via Mini-DVI to VGA, and am trying to stream online video. The video works fine when the browser is on my MacBook screen, but when I drag it over to the LCD TV, the video freezes. I tried setting the screens to mirrored as well, and the video wouldn't play (on either). I'm not really sure what else to try. Any help would be appreciated!

    Try this...
With the TV connected, go into Displays Preferences and click on the Arrangement tab. You should see two blue rectangles meant to represent the two screens. One of the rectangles will have a white bar across the top, meant to represent the menu bar. Drag the small white bar from one blue rectangle to the other. This will move the real menu bar to the TV, making it the primary display. Now see if your video will play on the TV.
