Online Voting Gallery Help

Hi there,
I'm trying to setup some online voting for a non-profit. It would consist of 25 photos and the public could go vote for their favorite design. I need to keep this very simple as far as time setting it up and maintaining it goes. They would like online tallying of votes to show. I've never done survey or voting pages before and I'm not sure how to go about this. I would love some ideas or links for support. I'm currently designing in GoLive CS2 but I do have Dreamweaver; I just haven't had the time to switch over.

Need Help with Navigation for an Online Art Gallery

I am trying to create a web site for an online art gallery.
I am new to DW8 and I have been reading several books,
forums, etc trying to figure out how to build a simple and elegant
navigation system.
I have successfully built simple navigation using a frame set
as the index.html page. I have successfully built and incorporated
the art gallery using Photo Assist (Photo Assist is a DW8 extension
that creates photo albums using AJAX). The gallery.html page built
with Photo Assist has thumbnail browsing and a slideshow mechanism.
Photo Assist also uses CSS that I have been able to modify for my
personal tastes in terms of creating a simple and elegant user
interface for the gallery section of the web site.
My index.html frame set consists of navFrame.html and
mainDisplayFrame.html pages. I created a navigation button (using
Fireworks 8) that links the gallery.html as its source and targets
mainDisplayframe.html.
My plan was to just add about 5 or 6 more navigation buttons
and target the mainDisplayFrame.html from each navigation button to
display some static information.I think the site looks fairly good
except that the frame set requires scroll bars when browsed with
800 x 600 screen resolutions. I thought that I could just use
'layers' instead of a frame set, but there is not a "target"
mechanism when usings layers.
At the end of the day, I would prefer to just use one web
page for displaying the navigation and all of my other web pages
including the gallery.html page. I think I have the right idea but
I can't seem to get a good handle on a navigation system that is
better than a frame set.

Please note that I am not a web designer that has deep
knowledge of HTML, CSS, javascript, server side stuff, etc. I do
know a little bit about C++ and Java programming and a little bit
about html tags, and also a little bit about how CSS works. Beyond
that, I am pretty much a point and click type of web page builder.
My real expertise is more or less on photographing and digitizing
the art.
I should mention that I eventually want to build in PayPal
eCommerce if at all possible, but I realize I might not have the
skills to do so.
Any help, suggestions and comments are very much
appreciated.

Online voting & Security

Hello all!!
I am going to develop an online voting system but have no clue of hoe to do it!!!
I will use servlets that will provide information about the candidates and allow voters to place their votes. The system shoul count the votes and be able to produce graphs and other statistics about the vote.
Security is also a main issue. I will have to prevent users from voting more than once and also protect the main system from being tampered with once the voting period has commenced.
I plan to connect with an MS access db to store all relevent information.
Can any body help?

The way I see it there are couple of visible components ion your system
1: You will have voters
Now the voters can be invited by the Administrator to register. This means people can register only by invitation OR people are free to come and register to vote. In the latter approach you will not be able to ensure that someone is not registering twice. But then this is more of specification decision rather than technical decision
2: You will need candidiates
You have to decide who all will be the candidates. Would the admin designate candidates or can people register themselves to be candidates if they have 2/3 supporters..
If for your purpose the candidiates are not humans- this section will change eg if the candidates are couple of suggestions for a prty location
3: Then comes the election period
The start and end of the elections
4: Finer points
Can a voter change his/her mind before the result ?
Can he/she see the results before he votes -
Can he/she see the results after he votes ?
and so forth
I would suggest that you should first decide what you want the system to do and behave . Then you can decide about the technology -
First try to think about Whats o fthe application without thinking about Hows.

Do you have an Apple-ID? if you do, then you should not have to enter your Address again, and may be able to sidestep the US Zip Code issue.

Looking for an online LR3 gallery that allows clients to give feedback.

Tried FSS Select from LightroomGalleries but no luck (I only get an endless "loading gallery"). I just want something simple that would allow clients to provide feedback (comments/picks/ratings) on a series of photos I just took for them.
Any suggestions?

Online Voting Software/Systems

Hi all,
I'm not entirely sure whether this is the right board for this question but of all boards in the arch forums it seems most appropriate to me.
I am looking for an online voting software or system, preferably one that runs on Linux (but much of it might be php/python/perl software running with apache and the appropriate script engine and therefore system independent anyway). All a google search turned up for me was a list of software http://www.linuxlinks.com/Web/Portal/Voting/ which however seems somewhat outdated (most of the projects seem to be dead with most recent versions from 2007 or 2004 or 2001; some of the links are broken) and some scholarly papers on the topic.
Does anyone know a more up to date list of such software or have a good specific suggestion.
(The purpose for which I need it is to set up a secret and secure, thus preferably with cryptographic keys, voting software for a small or rather small organization. It's therefore neither reasonable to try to buy commercial software nor to try to develop such a software so I tried to come up with a good suggestion but failed so far.)

Thanks fukawi2, LimeSurvey looks like a good solution; I just had a look at the manual - it seems to come with all the features necessary for a secret and secure election. I will give it a try.

Script code not working online (Bridge gallery to Dreamweaver)

Hi there
I'm a newbie, so please pardon my amateur problem. I am doing a website as a favor for someone and have always worked with FrontPage. DW is totally new to me.
I've created a photo gallery using Bridge and then opened up the index.html (the one that Bridge created) file in DW. Because I need to have that gallery embedded on the website (not as a standalone page), I followed a tutorial by adding a <div> and <iframe>.
On live view on DW the page looks perfect. When I 'put' the page online (as well as the Adobe Web Gallery Folder and the index.html page that Bridge created) it shows nothing online. I uploaded the script files to the file manager in the folder that it points to on the code. And still, nothing.

Aperture Web Gallery Help

Now I know I just got the program, and feel I am fairly savvy when it comes to figuring out programs and such. But IS THE ANYWAY TO PUBLISH A WEB GALLERY TO ANYWHERE BESIDES .MAC IN APERTURE2?
I just can't seem to find the right answers anywhere else online... So forgive my ignorance but please help...

The short answer is no.
Much of the functionality is server side.
You can put web pages and web journals on your own server though.

Questions about using skins in online and local help

Caveat: I'm a very new RoboHelp users, somewhat self-taught, so my questions may be very rudamentary, but I can't quite find them in the (very meager) Adobe help.
In a previous version of the Help (created by my predecessor), the local Help (.chm) looked like this, i.e., no skins:
The online Help looked like this--i.e., it had the skin:
First question: why doesn't the local help have the skin? Is this a setting?
Second question: In a newer version of the help that I created, both versions of help look like the local Help above--no skins. How do I make the skins display?
Third question: We localized to French. When I open FR online Help and right-click a help topic (to open in a new tab) the page displays as below, with the "Montrer" standing in for what is "< Show Contents" in English (see below). This content is incorrect in French, and should be "Afficher le sommaire" ("Show Summary").
Where do I find the source for this piece of content, so that I can correct it? I've looked in the skins file, but didn't see anything that would qualify.

Okay, so I read through the second bit you sent, Rick (after a few deep breathing exercises!) and understand that somehow, we need to change how the developer calls the URL ... yes?
Oh, and the default file I select is the one that is automatically opened, yes? So at least that's going right.
Inside your help, you have a few folders with topics inside each folder. So if you just issue the basic http://www.somesite.com URL, all you get is the default topic. But you want Topic13.htm which happens to be inside folder C. Now you could link directly as inhttp://www.somesite.com/Help/FolderC/Topic13.htm and that would present Topic13.htm but it would not have the frameset (skin) surrounding it. Instead, it would likely have a "Show" link. And when the user clicked the Show link, the full frameset would appear and Topic13.htm would then be loaded in the topic pane.
To make this happen with a basic link, the URL would look like this:
http://www.somesite.com/Help/Index.htm#Folder C/Topic13.htm
And this refers to the remote help, not the local CHM, yes?
Historically, I just give them the location of the files, i.e, they're at: http/onlinehelp.companysite.com/help/productname/version/language/mjwin_help.htm (which is the name we've been using, though I will someday want to change that as it references an older version of the brand ... but first things first).
I ran a test in which I I generated and posted the files to the correct location on the server (and identified the default topic I wanted in the SSL). I sent this exact URL to the developer to include in this morning's build. According to what you have indicated, since I'm not asking the Help to do anything but open up to the default topic, I should get a) the default topic and b) the skins.
I did not get this result.
Could there be something going on on the developer end? I ask this because I had problems with Map IDs, which turned out to be that they weren't telling me that some UI elements called context-sensitive help and therefore those pages needed to be linked to the correct map ID. (Like me, some of the members of that department are new to their positions ...)

My site is a Dreamweaver site, but if had to use a flash image gallery that wouldn't be a problem. I basically wanna plug my words and captions in and be done with it. Any help? I still want it to look nice though.

Flash Web Gallery HELP

I decided to create a website to showcase some of my graphic
design work and I have been stumped for over three weeks of how to
insert a flash web gallery. I bought this gallery from Entheosweb
awhile ago and have been trying to correspond with their customer
service but to no avail. I created a basic layout in photoshop with
a simple header and footer and a body thats at least 840 x 490
(dimensions of the gallery). I've been using dreamweaver to upload
the files to my web host and when I exhange the code of the gallery
for the image (body) code it is uploaded but cannot be seen on
http://www.al-burke.com. You
can actually right click the gallery and press play and it will
appear. Will this happen for all visitors to the site? Also, I am
not sure where to put the images and the important files of the
gallery in my root folder. Thanks for your help.

Picture Gallery Help!

Hey everybody,
I am new to flash and have three seperate but sort - of
related questions that I was hoping you guys could help me answer!
Question 1. In april, I will be putting on a "website" - its
going to be displayed live via a projector onto a projection
screen. for a small student convention, at this convention are
competitions for the students to enter, the students will be
leaving the competition through to doors (door A and door b) What
they (I) want to do is take a photograph of a student as they leave
their competition, ship the photo over to the computer holding all
the files for the site, and then 10-30 seconds after the picture
was taken I want it to be displayed live on the screen. I have the
camera's set, they automatically take a picture and send them to a
file on a computer hooked up via network. What I need is a gallery
that will display pictures randomly from four sources, - 1) stock
photos taken prior to the convention, 2) Pictures from Door A
3)pictures from Door B and 4) Advertisments created prior to the
convention. The first three sources I want to cycle through about
every 20-30 seconds, preferably with a spiffy transition from one
picture to the next with preference (at least in the case of Door A
and B) given to the newest photos taken. The fourth source (the
advertisments) I want to cycle into the gallery every 7-10 minutes
and stay on screen for 1 - 3 minutes. I can give up source 4 if
nescesary, but I would like to have it. All the pictures/ads will
be the same size.
The gallery doesnt need to be styled on the borders, I need
it to blend and be part of the page, just change images when it
needs to. I will be doing other things at the conference and cannot
baby-sit the flash gallery, is their a way to create the gallery,
and tell it to pull from the sources (call it four folders) and
rotate when needed. I know (but dont know how to make) that the
transitions elements can be set up ahead of time, but what about
the live image aspect?
Question 2 - Similar to the first, but everything will be
done ahead of time - at another point on the page I want to have
banner ads from our sponsors, I just need a gallery to cycle
through the ads at a predetermined time (i.e Ad 1 stays up for 5
minutes, while Ad 2 stays up for 2 minutes, etc)
Question 3 - Not related to the above website, I have another
page I am developing that I think could greatly benefit from the
coolness of flash. This will be a picture gallery for 2 products,
what I am envisioning is a display area for a large picture,
underneath it 2 tracks of thumbnails, click on track 1 and the
display area shows the big pictures of the thumnails in that track,
click on track 2 and it displays the big pictures of that track. It
would also be cool if it had a zoom feature and a move feature. I
know the images can be loaded in with an xml document (I think I
know this) The site will be using a database with lots of products,
I need to be able to make the XML and flash gallery work with the
database so that it can change thumnails and bigpictures according
to the database info - so when you are on product 1, you see
product 1's thumbs and bigpics. Product 2 - etc.... I can make the
XML dynamic, I just need the flash part, and make sure it pulls the
thumbs from an xml file (or other outside source that can be set to
dynamically get the info) This gallery will be styled and embeded
into a product template, and
also can't be babysat or created for each product.
I am not against buying a prebuilt option if someone knows
some good ones, I am also not against building it myself if someone
could give me some guidance as to where to go for tutorials, that
sort of thing.

What OS version are you running on your phone and who is your carrier? This is something that is controlled by the OS and while there is no way to change the number of thumbnails per row, some OSes have clearer thumbnails than others.
You can find your OS version under Options > About. Its the number listed after the v. (e.g. 5.0.0.713).

Web Gallery help separating photos into 2 collections

Help creating web gallery please. I would like to separate photos in the gallery into 2 different collections or categories. When I set up my web gallery in LR 2.0 and choose the first set of photos, I can name this collection title on the right panel. How can I then set up a second collection with different photos so they both show up in the gallery on the web and a viewer can choose either topic and then view the photos within it? Thanks.

You need to create a master gallery page and link to the pages within. There is no automatic way to do this.
There are 3rd party options: LRB Portfolio (disclaimer: mine), Auto Index from The Turning Gate will do this with Galleries from the Turning Gate.
