Only 1 partition shows up!! help

I recieved my macbook pro today and I am having trouble trying to install windows xp with bootcamp. I create a partition with bootcamp and insert the install disk. The blue screen for windows appears and asks me which partition to choose. There is only one partition that has 131000 MB. This isnt the amount I asked for.
I followed every step. I even found out that other people are having the same problem as me on other forums and I havn't seen a solution yet. Please help me!

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
such 'behaviour' usually is a hint that your Windows XP does not include the SP2 (Service Pack 2) or later, but is a SP1 or earlier.
Check the label of the CD for mentioning of SP2.
If SP1 you can use these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp to make yourself a XP SP2 Installation CD.
XP SP2 or later is a must for BootCamp to work.
Regards
Stefan

  • Only Partitions Showing Up In Disk Utility, No USB Drive

I recently reformatted a 1TB WD My Passport Ultra to the GUID partition table with three partitions (400-550-50) using the Mac OSX Extended Case-Sensitive Journaled Encrypted filesystem. Now in Disk Utility the actual disk is not showing up, instead it only shows the partitions as disks. Can I fix this without a reformat?
    Potential Causes:
1.) The 50GB partition was turned into a Truecrypt Volume
2.) Last night the drive was disconnected mid-TM backup

  • 330 apps, only 300 showing - need help!

I made the mistake of loading 330 apps (according to the About page) onto my 128GB iPad 4 with iOS 8.  Only then realizing you can only have 15 pages and 300 apps showing unless you use folders (which I didn't).  Lesson learned, but what can I do now?  I seem to be stuck:  If I create new folders, the apps with missing icons don't reappear when I create "space" for them on the 15 pages using this method.  But if I Reset the home screen layout, it destroys all my folders.  I seem to be stuck in a loop.  All I want to do is put all my 330 apps into organized folders, but how can I do this if app icons don't reappear to fill in the newly created space??  Thanks!

Create the folders and move apps into them. When you have a bunch of free space on the Home screens reset your iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Where it says place the iPod in recovery mode use this program.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You need to transfer the purchased content from the iPad to the iTunes library on the laptop. Read the post from virtualgeo on how to accomplish what you want to do.

If you are running iOS 5 and backing up to iCloud, there is really no need to go through all of that - IMO - but if you want to, it is possible to do so.
If you decide to do this, You will now have iTunes telling you that the iPad has been synced to another iTunes library each time that you sync with the other computer.

I have an external hard drive, from Iomega. that I can open and see my files. However, I cannot copy or save any file to it. On my PC I have it says that is possible to read and write in it, but in my Mac, it says I can only read. can somebody help me?
Also, Im a photographer, so I like to name a lot of files at the same time (used to do in on PC and it was very usefull.) cannot find out how to do it on my Mac. Really appretiate if some one can give me a solution! Thanx

Your drive is formatted with the NTFS file system.  OS X can read but not write to the NTFS file system.  There are third party drivers available that claim to add the ability to OS X to write to an NTFS partition.  I have not tried them and don't know if they work.
The only file system that OS X and Windows can both write to natively is the FAT32 file system.

  • External Hard Drive - One Partition shows no files.

I have an airport extreme with a WD 600 GB HD hooked up to the USB port. I have 2 partitions on the HD, the apple parition works fine (I am using it as my time capsule HD) The FAT32 partition shows up on the desktop and in the finder, but I can't see any files. I can see the files fine if I plug the HD straight to my macbook. HELP!

No ideas? I think I might backup that partition and redo it as an apple partition. Good idea?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Linux ext4 partitions show up as "Microsoft basic data" type

  • One partition showing, one not

    Hi guys,
I upgraded my Macbook to Leopard a few days ago and it's been working great. I've been using an external Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 250GB hard drive divided into two partitions - one is 100GB and one is 150GB. I've been using the 100GB with Time Machine and the larger one just to store files on. Today I plugged in my hard drive and only the Time Machine partition showed up in Finder. I've tried everything I can think of. In Disk Utility, the non-Time Machine partition shows up and is working properly, I just can't open it. I tried ejecting, remounting, unplugging the drive (both USB and power), everything. Any suggestions?
I want to reiterate that this has been working for a few days. It just randomly stopped working today.
    Ben

Hi! Anytime you have drive problems you run the risk of losing information...that's why you have backups and backups to the backups but repairing the drive is your best choice. Repairing it in itself won't cause a loss of data unless the directory structure is too damaged to repair correctly. Diskwarrior is the best utility for repairing directory structures. Tom

  • Boot partition showing up on desktop

After restoring OSX and Linux to my new replacement Powerbook hard drive, there's a "Boot OSX" partition showing up on my desktop, the contents of which are:

What do I need to do to stop it showing up on my desktop? It never did before, with the same combo of OSX+Ubuntu installed.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.
