Only 12 GB RAM showing in BIOS of 890GXM-G65 when 16 GB RAM is installed

Just added 2 x 4 GM RAM of the identical type as the original 2 x 4 GB to my son's PC, motherboard 890GXM-G65.
Even after a BIOS flash to the latest version, the BIOS still only recognizes 12 GB RAM but Windows 8 confirms 16 GB is installed, with only 12 GB available.
Anyone have any suggestions on this one, to unlock/enable the additional RAM?  Tried many things to no avail.

can be dead ram or dead slot or may be corrosion or dirty slot connector, try to find contact cleaner in electronic store to clean the slot ( without power of course )

    Hello everyone!

    PSU: Corsair CX500
Besides power button, nothing else is connected.
I'm building a brand new system. It boots with either module from the memory kit in either slot, but bios hangs (code 99) when BOTH memory modules are installed.
I tried to update bios to v2.1, but still won't boot with both modules installed.
Then I looked on the global site and found v2.2 bios for this board, which states "- Improved memory compatibility." and released on 2013-08-19, which is fairly recently. I tried to download it from download site (US, EU, CHN) but all sites give 404 error (file not found) to me.

It boots fine with a single stick in either slot. I tried flashing the attached beta bios via UEFI interface (choose the option with ME) and it updated. It still won't work if both slots are filled, works fine if either of dimm slots is filled with either stick from the kit.
ADD: I also tried putting whole RAM kit in my main machine and it works, so RAM isn't faulty.
Use a single RAM module, boot up, access the BIOS and be sure XMP is disabled.
Set the timings to 9-9-9-24, the voltage to 1.55-1.60V and the speed to 1333MHz.
Save the settings, shut down, insert the 2nd RAM module and see if it works.

  • I only want to show favorite channels all the time when I go to Guide. Hide others.

Is there a way to only show Favorites? I don't want to have to select Favorites, and make it easy on the family to see a limited amount of channels. I can create favorites but i have to Select 'Show Favorites'.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, you can.
There is a feature called Flip By Favorites, which you'll find under the Favorite Channels menu in Settings. Once the Flip By Favorites option is enabled, the box will only show the channels you have added to the selected favorites list. Channels that you have not added will be permanently hidden from the guide; the only way to access those channels will be to input their channel numbers manually.

  • Why does Google show up as the search engine - when I have Firefox installed?

I installed firefox as my browser, because Google is having more and more problems and I do not want them as a search engine. But when I opened Firefox there was Google in the search bar????? It does not work. when I go to an initial website it is ok, but when I try to re-direct to another site - it hangs up and will not connect.

Google pays Mozilla to be the default search engine, but of course you can change it. The search bar is simplest: you just use the drop-down to choose a different search service. If your preferred site isn't available, let us know what it is. The address bar is next simplest, but you need to paste a new preference in through a slightly obscure method. <s>Changing the search box on the built-in Firefox homepage is the hardest.</s> ''The search box on the built-in Firefox homepage can be changed as described in the next post.''
There is some malware going around that redirects Google results to random sites. Usually the pattern is that using the back button to return to the results and clicking again will take you to the correct site. If you think you might have this problem, check out this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939017 Google Redirect Virus Removal].

  • 5300 RAM showing up as 3200 in Quad, any experience with this problem?

Hello, just received a 2 gig kit for my G5 Quad (2 - 1 gig sticks from Crucial). System Profiler shows it's speed at 3200, lower than the original 512 RAM which is 4200. Crucial says it will only reach 4200, but why is the new RAM showing up at 3200? Tried removing original RAM and only using the new, same speed displayed - 3200.
Has anyone had any experience with this oddity? Any idea if the RAM is not performing or the Mac is not giving accurate speed data?
    Thanks, Steve

Memory identified as PC2600 in MDD
    Symptom
Apple Hardware Test identifies the computer's memory as "PC2600" rather than "PC2700".
    Products affected
    * Power Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors)
    * Apple Hardware Test version 1.2.6
    Solution
There is nothing wrong with your computer's memory. This issue is addressed in Apple Hardware Test 1.2.7. If you have version 1.2.6 and are experiencing this issue, contact AppleCare for a replacement disc.
Apple is aware of that. It first showed up in 10.3.0 and has been there ever since. The issue with the above DDR2 is I think different and unique.
With the MDD, Apple used Micron in the system I got, and I added Crucial. Both show up as '2600.'

  • 8GB of RAM Installed, only 4GB detected/used by BIOS/Windows 7 (with P67A-GD55)

Let me start off by saying that I'm not very good with computers. At all. I know a little bit about them, but I am by no means an expert. That said, I have 8GB of RAM installed on my motherboard, spread out across 4 sticks. However, upon looking at my BIOS and my Windows Resource Monitor, it declares that I only have 4GB of RAM installed and usable. This is what I know so far:
    - This issue has been prevalent as long as I've had my computer, and by extension my motherboard and my RAM sticks, so this issue isn't recent.
    - I do have a 64bit version of Windows 7. I've checked and double-checked, and I'm 99.5% positive that it is.
    - Speccy, a 3rd party program designed for checking system specs, declares that I do, in fact, have 8GB installed.
    - I don't think that the RAM is bad because the BIOS still does pick up on different statistics of the RAM that are in the slots; it just fails to register the actual fact that they're there.
    System Specs:
    OS: Windows 7 64bit SP1
    CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K  @ 3.30GHz
    RAM: Patriot PSD32G133K 4x2GB DDR3 @ 498MHz
    Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD55 P67 LGA 1155
HDD: 977GB SAMSUNG SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)
Optical Drive: LG DVDRAM GH24NS50 ATA Device
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB VRAM
    PSU: Cooler Master 750 Watt
    BIOS Version: E7681IMS V1.5
Now this is where it gets interesting: My motherboard has 4 DIMM slots for the RAM, and the motherboard (I assume by default) works in dual-channel mode. This means that DIMM 1 and 3 work together and so do DIMM 2 and 4, which most of you probably understand. However, filling up all 4 slots only gives me half the RAM. So I remove the RAM from slots 2 and 4, and it results in all 4GB of RAM being detected. Then, I add in each other RAM stick one at a time, and it fails to register both. So I remove the RAM from slots 1 and 3, and keep the RAM from slots 2 and 4, and it ends up in all 4GB being registered.
I feel like the answer should be directly in front of me, but from endless Google searches and posts on other forums, I have ended up at a dead end. I'm completely clueless, so I could really use some help.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Also, if this is the wrong forum for this, feel free to move it wherever.

What is your current UEFI/BIOS Version?
The usual cause of such problems is (apart from bad memory slots or a defect of the processor's memory controller) a contact problem between the boards CPU Socket contact pins and the CPU's contact pads.  Broke or bent pins are one explanation, in other instances a heatsink that is fastened to tight can also cause such issues.
I'll have the BIOS version up in a moment, but I'll see about diagnosing if one of those problems might just be what is my problem. Any tips on doing that?
Also, BIOS version is up in the OP now.

  • Only 2gigs of Ram showing with 4gigs installed

Hello! My apologies if this is in the incorrect forum. First let me say I've had this problem before and it was resolved by switching the memory cards in their seats.
I have installed two,  2GB memory cards (4 gigs total) but only 2GB are showing up.  I've tried once again, switching their seats and also purchased brand new 2GB cards with the same results.  My system information is as follows:
    Model: CQ5600Y
Processor: AMN Athlon II 170u Processor 2.00 GHZ
Installed memory RAM: 2.00 Gb - not correct
    System Type: 64 bit OS
     Windows 7 Home Premium
Any assistance in how to resolve this problem will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    WASimpson, welcome to the forum.
Here is something that you can try:
This problem may occur because the Maximum memory option is selected incorrectly. To fix this, follow these steps:
Click Start, type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
    Restart the computer.
Please click the "Thumbs Up+ button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

  • Intalled 2g of ram from 1g only one 1g shows

i installed 2x1gb-sdram but only 1gb shows up. bank 1 shows as empty. i tried switching the each of the 1gb sdram but still got the same problem. i reinstalled the old ram 2x512MB and bank 1 still shows up as empty and using only 2 of the 512MB.
why would only 1 bank show up as working

Unless you damaged the slot, the most probable reason is you do not have the DIMM completely seated in the slot. Remove the memory from the slots, do a visual inspection of the slots to make sure nothing is keeping the DIMM from seating, then reinstall making sure that each DIMM is into the slot as far as the other one. Generally leave the top off until you are sure the memory is working correctly.

  • 890GXM-G65 working with 1,6v RAM - Is that ok?

Hello, folks. I built my first rig last year, with the 890GXM-G65, and I am considering a few updates, which made me realize that I made a mistake  . Now that I am more aware of things in a rig, I saw that my mainboard requires 1,5v RAM, but I have 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3 1.333MHz TW3X4G1333C9 G (1,6v). I read somewhere that using memory with voltage higher than the mainboard can compromise or even burn the processor. Is that right? Is the 1,6v RAM putting my processor or the mainboard at risk?
I will replace the RAM for 4 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 (1,5v), but I don’t know if I can wait a little bit or if I should replace the RAM as soon as possible. All in all, my computer is working fine since day one, but I don't know if the mistake with the RAM is lowering its performance. Or maybe I was expecting too much of my Phenon II 1090T
    Here is my rig:
    - Windows XP (Win7 is driving me nuts)
    - 890GXM-G65 (no OC whatsoever)
    - 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3 1.333MHz TW3X4G1333C9 G
    - Phenom II 1090T
    - Sapphire HD 6870
    - HD (OS) Seagate Barracuda 320GB
    I appreciate any comments,

I your Bios, if you look in the Cell Menu, there are available adjustments for memory. You can run 'Auto' or set specs to match your Memory specs, or Overclock. Although the manual States 1.5v, it is the Auto basics and can support 1.5v sticks. I looked at MSI under 'Test Report' and your current Corsair memory is on the tested list, as OK to use. If you memory specs ask for a different voltage value, you can manually set the voltage in your Bios under DRAM Voltage(V). Never adjust into the RED values. Setting to the suggested voltages for your sticks is proper, any other choice is Overclocking, or Underclocking. You can also set the timing and 1T/2T. Again this information is available at Corsair for your memory sticks. Do not think that MSI tested and qualified memory sticks are to be set at 1.5v, if the sticks call for a different voltage. At Corsair it shows TW3X4G1333C9G stick as 1.5v (you say 1.6v) and timing of 9-9-9-24. Double check at corsair to verify the values. That said if they are infact 1.6v memory sticks, then set the DRAM voltage to 1.6v. I do not see the Corsair Vengeance DDR3 CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 sticks at MSI test list as tested. That doesn't mean you can't use them.. just not on the tested list. You can verify that at Corsair.
    Good Luck

  • 890GXM-G65 no S.M.A.R.T. support in bios.

    Hi.
Few days ago i buy mobo 890GXM-G65, today  wanted to check S.M.A.R.T. on one of my hdd, and i have a surprise, smartctl gives me that answer:
    Quote
    SMART support is: Disabled
SMART Disabled. Use option -s with argument 'on' to enable it.
Ok, i try with this: smartctl -a -s on /dev/sda and i receive that:
    Quote
    === START OF ENABLE/DISABLE COMMANDS SECTION ===
Error SMART Enable failed: Input/output error
    Smartctl: SMART Enable Failed.
A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T perm
    issive' options.
Ok, so i reboot OS, check every option in bios and don't see nothing about S.M.A.R.T. bios version is 1.B (last). This mobo realy don't support S.M.A.R.T. features or this my "luck"?

SMART don't really shows accurate info, often makes mistakes.
Maybe is not accurate in 100% (especially if we speak about Seagate drives, or windows soft like hd tune), but still is really helpful

Also thing its available only in native IDE mode.[/color]
I think it doesn't matter (until today i never have problem on ahci or ide), but i check and still this same.

  • 1333Mhz Ram showing up as 1600Mhz MacBook Pro 15 Late 2011

    Hi All,
I have a weird problem here.
    I have a late 2011 15inch Macbook Pro. I recently upgraded it to 1333MHZ 8GB (4X2) transcend RAM - (Transcend RAM Model JM1333KSH-4G)
Now the problem is that the transcend RAM specifications show that these are 4GB 1333MHZ RAM but on installing in my Macbook Pro, it shows the frequency as 1600MHZ under "About Mac" menu. I have tried this with 4 different transcend RAMs to make sure that RAMs are ok. All the 4 RAMs show 1600 MHZ in my mac. Can this be a problem with my laptop?
Apple support team suggested to reinstall the OS so that it updates with the correct information. I reinstalled the OS (not clean install, just reinstall), but still it shows 1600MHZ.
Can somebody explain the problem to me? Is this normal ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Vikram

    Hi Dominic,
Thanks for the reply.I really appreciate.
This is one of the safest solution.I can return it but in our region Transcend is a trusted brand with acceptable service and repair. So, there are not too many reasons from moving away from the brand !!
Further, i have tried with 4 different RAMs.All resulted in the same problem. My guess is that either the RAM model or my laptop is having problem.
It would be great if some of our friends who have done a similar RAM upgrade with Late 2011 Macbook pro can share their experiences.
Hopefully, i am not the only one to fall for transcend
    Thanks,
    Vikram

I have a Powermac G5 DP 2.3 Ghz desktop, it has 5Gb of ram installed (4 X 1Gb sticks & 4 X 256Mb sticks)...However, when I look at the "Mac info" screen, it is only showing up as 3Gb!! If the RAM is not paired in the correct slots, a DIMM will be reported as 1/2 its capacity.
Unfortunately, if the RAM is in the correct slots, bad DIMMs or bad slots will also cause the reporting discrepancey.
RAM should be paired from inside out, one of each pair in each bank:

Is it the same hard drive that did not appear in Windows before (the "command failed" hard drive)?  In case the answer is yes, then this sounds like a bad hard drive rather than a board or BIOS problem.
