Only 6 songs (out of 200) played when shuffling a playlist!

I have a playlist consisting of over 200 'songs' (itunes/ipod think they're songs but they're actually language lessons). All songs are listed and if I play one, the playlist contains all items. However as soon as I press 'shuffle', the playlist goes from 200 songs to 6 (and it's always the same 6 tracks)!
Any idea what's happening here? I did upgrade to 3.0 and I'm guessing that has something to do with it as I've had lots and lots of problems with the music app since upgrading.

I always go with the obvious first: maybe most are marked as "Skip when shuffling." In iTunes, select one of the songs that is not played during Shuffle, and Control-click on Get info and click the Options tab. If "Skip when shuffling" is selected, this is your problem. You can escape from that, select all the songs in the playlist, Click on Get info and Options and unmark "Skip when shuffling." This will change all of them.
You'll need to sync.

  • Not all songs in an album played when shuffling them

Ok, so I searched for info on this and can't find any questions that ask about the exact same issue...
If I select an artist (multiple albums) or an album and try to play all their songs (or all the album's songs) in shuffle mode, if I try to start off by playing any song other than the first one in the list (ordered by track number), then they all won't play. I've tried both selecting the starting song, then hitting shuffle, as well as hitting shuffle, then selecting the starting song.
When you turn on shuffle, what actually happens? Do the songs the "re-ordered" randomly every time you turn shuffle off then back on? If so, how do you get the song you have currently selected to be the first one in the list?
    Greg

I have experienced the same thing for months now and was in false belief that there was something wrong with my songs. iTunes should go through all songs and play them randomly. There is absolutely no excuse for this not to work properly. Repeat option is completely separated. It's purpose is to play songs indefinitely. It shouldn't be necessary to turn repeat on for iTunes to play all songs while shuffle is on.
I will just never be able to comprehend how is it possible for people who make this software for years not to see this problem while they test the application (if they do that at all) and fix it. This is just ridiculous and pure nonsense.

  • IPod touch won't play ANY music, only skips. All music plays when FROM ipod when plugged into iTunes. No, songs are not corrupt, I was playing an album through iTunes from my iPod and for no reason iTunes froze and now I'm having issues with my iPod.

So I was playing an album from my iPod through iTunes like normal, and the album ended. I switched to iTunes view to change to a new one and it said "iPod is done syncing" (I did not choose to sync, nor did anything appear different). I tried to click on a song to play and iTunes froze. I had to restart iTunes and when I ejected my iPod (properly) the syncing sign was still turning on my iPod. As of now my iPod only skips through every song I try to play, but when I plug it into iTunes every song FROM my iPod plays perfectly.
No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this. Everything was working fine before when it decided to do this with very little effort, therefore I would like it fixed with very little effort.
I have tried resycing my iPod multiple times (every time I eject it from iTunes it appears to do so properly [iPod icon goes away] but the syncing icon still appears on my iPod).
I have almost 58 GB of music on my iPod so I'm not interested in starting from scratch. Also a good portion of my music is on a computer I don't have access to anymore so that's out of the question. Since the music seems to be uncorrupted (still plays from iPod in iTunes) I want a way to fix this iPod issue without having to erase anything.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.

  • Part of selected playlist playing when shuffled

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano. In my iTunes, I created a Smart playlist for all my podcasts. They are all checked and synced perfectly fine to my ipod. But when I select to shuffle on my ipod, it will only play like 48 or 53 of them, and then go back to the playlist screen. My question is: Why won't my ipod nano play all of a playlist when selected to shuffle?
    Thanks to all,
    MiKayla

    Hello MiKayla A.
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I would first figure out which podcasts are not being shuffled. Then for each of these podcasts, make sure the *Skip when Shuffling* option is not enabled for it from under the Options tab of its *Get Info* window in iTunes.
That's about all I have for suggestions though.

  • Why does sound only come out of 1 speaker when I dock my iPod?

My son's Ipod only plays sound out of I speaker. When I dock the ipod on his ihome radio or my sony radio, sound only comes out of the left speaker. When I put other ipods on the same docks i get sound out of both speakers. It is just this one ipod that won't produce sound out of both speakers, no matter what docking station I use.

Likely it is a hardware issue for the iPod, you need to bring it for service

  • My iPod announces the current and previous songs that have been played when I touch it.

For some reason my iPod 6th generation announces the current song or album being played AND the past or last album that was played when I touch it.  How do I turn off this feature?

Sounds like VoiceOver has been activated.  See this article for instructions on how to turn it off.

  • Keeping certain songs in order when shuffling a playlist

Is there a way to keep certain tracks in a playlist in order when shuffling the rest of the playlist?
For instance, Pure Prairie League -- "Falling in and out of love" & "Amie".
Or most of the end of The Beatles Abbey Road CD???

  • After transferring my iTunes data from the old to the new windowsPC according to the apple-instructions, the songs don't start playing when I click them as usual, although loudspeaker symbol appears on the left side

After transferring my iTunes data from my old to the new windowsPC following exactly the original apple instructions everything LOOKS allright when I start iTunes on my new PC. But when I click the song as usual, it doesn't start playing, although the little loudspeaker symbol on the left side appears. What went wrong, what can I do?

I guess nobody knows if the crash that occured was legitimate or not?  Apple phone support could do nothing for me, so I guess I am left to drive 45 minutes to the nearest store.

  • Can i skip music when on general shuffle but play it in a playlist?

Quick question, I am currently adding some Christmas music to my iPod, I would like for it to be skipped when on general shuffle but to still shuffle when in a playlist. Is this possible?
When I select "skip when shuffling" it doesn't play the music when on a normal shuffle, but then again it just plays the same order of music in the playlist - no shuffle possible. Kind of a catch 22. Any help?

When I select "skip when shuffling" it doesn't play the music when on a normal shuffle
That is how it's supposed to work.
but then again it just plays the same order of music in the playlist - no shuffle possible.
Correct. You don't wnat these to play when Shuffle is selected so they don't.
They will only play in order.
    It's not a catch-22 at all.

  • "Album Only" songs included?

I don't regularly buy entire albums, so I'm double checking before I purchase an album containing "Album Only" songs. These are included when I buy the entire album on iTunes, right?
Making sure "Album Only" doesn't mean iTunes doesn't have rights to sell them and they're only available on the album in a store.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

'Album only' songs are included. It just means you can't buy them separate.
That usually occurs with songs that have a long play time.
    Hope this helps.

  • Create iTunes Workflow to "Skip When Shuffling?"

I've been searching the forums, but haven't found a response yet. I'm a novice at Automator, as I've just switched from Panther to Tiger. Is it possible to create a workflow to mark a series of "songs" (in my case, the list of iTrip frequencies) to "Skip When Shuffling" so that they don't show up in the Party Shuffle or play when shuffling all songs? It's a lot of "songs" to go through manually. Thanks!
    Curt

    ibosket,
I was able to accomplish the turning off of the iTrip frequencies by doing the following:
    Automater Actions
    1) Find Songs in iTunes Action(Find: Songs; Whose: Playlist is Library and Whose: Album is equal to iTrip
    2) Run AppleScript Action with the following AppleScript copied from the Script Editor and replacing the complete text in the Automator "Run AppleScript" action and not just where it says (* Your script goes here *).
    click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "iTunes"
    repeat with aTrack in input
set enabled of aTrack to false
    end repeat
    end tell
    return input
    end run</pre>

  • Is there a way to create a playlist that will not play the songs when shuffle is selected?

I created a playlist of children's songs to play in my kindergarten classroom.  I placed these songs in a specific playlist so I could easilly access them when needed.  Problem is, when I'm working out, I don't want these songs to pop up in my "shuffle" mix.  How do I designate this playlist to only contribute songs when selected?

You can also set the "Skip when shuffling" property of the children's songs to Yes. Select the songs, Get. Info., look on the Options tab.

I want to play music from my playlist when I am using slideshow of my pictures in Ipad,  but I can only choose ONE SINGLE song, and it continuously repeates itself.  Is there a way to play the complete playlist while showing my pictures?

You can start the playlist playing in the iPod app and then switch into the Photos app and start your (non-music) slideshow - as you've found out you can currently only select a single track in the Photos app. Whether that will change in iOS 5 I don't know, but you could try leaving feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Since installing Ios7   280 music tunes out of a total of 360 will now only play when I'm within range of WiFi. The remainder now appear with the stupid Icloud logo beside them. How can I get them back on my Iphone 4s and scrap this stupid icloud that I did not want or ask for in the first place. Why can't rotten apple ask if you want the dam icloud rather than just stealing everything without permission and then you can only have access to it through wifi.

Wow, just posting and it seems that there is a solution that is working for me...
What I've did is I turned off iTunes Match on my iPhone, then turned in on again. Now in my iTunes library on my mac I can get the duplicates to be matched or uploaded to iCloud with a right-click, add to iCloud. iTunes Match starts to check the songs and everything is done correctly. Pretty nice!

  • Only 2 songs out of 16 will play on recent iTunes Store purchase

Hi there, I recently purchased the album '6 Feet Deep' by Gravediggaz from the iTunes store. I have no problems playing the album in iTunes. When I tried to play the album on my iPod though, it skipped to track 4 (Defective Trip [Trippin']) and played only that track, then skipped the rest of the tracks 5-16. This was when I tried to listen to just the album in order.
When I try to play individual songs off the album in Shuffle from my Song list, again only 'Defective Trip (Trippin') will play, any other song I try to play skips and I get a random song.
I have purchased many albums from the iTunes store and this is the first time this has happened. I deleted the album from iTunes and moved the files to a different location on my hard drive and reloaded them into iTunes but the same thing happens.
Also, this may or may not be related but it is really annoying, I have 8600 songs in iTunes but only 8590 on my iPod. All of the songs on the Gravediggaz album are checked so that's not the problem.
I have read about 25 pages worth of topics in this forum and see some similar posts but nothing exactly the same and no real answers anyway. I have already tried restoring to original settings.
    Thanks,
    Ivica

Do you have disk use enabled? If so, maybe too much space is allocated to disk use. Check this in iTunes when the iPod is connected by clicking on the settings tab. If you are not using the iPod as a storage device you can turn this option off.
