Only 9% System Memory Free

I have had trouble lately with multiple applications being open(and others running slow or not opening with 99% ram used up), fan speeds above 4000 and cpu temps above 150F. BTW, sinks and bridges stay below 135F.
Now the activity monitor is showing only 9%(84MB) free while running one window ofSafari, iStat and Mail. The 'about this mac' says the memory is 'ok'.
I am installing 4G of ram next weekend hoping these problems will go away..
My question; Is there something else I should address(fix) before the ram instal(which I will do anyway) and see if there is any improvement?

Oh boy, feeling dumb.
Vents were blocked, I blew the dust out with compressed air, raised the back of the fan inlet so it is clear of the table cloth. Running video and temp stays below 150 and fan speeds are below 4500.
Thanks for the SMC idea, but it warned against un-necessary use. Think im ok now.
Ordered a laptop cradle/usb fan unit along with my ram.
Calling this one solved.

I think you should review what you wrote. There is no question, hence, my reply. I can't tell by the AM listing what applications are using memory. You need to click on the Real Mem column once or twice to display in descending order.
Aside from what you see in AM, what exactly is your problem or perceived problem. You are very low on Free Mem at the moment the screen shot was taken. Those displays are not depicting your computer's instantaneous memory usage.

The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.

  • System Memory Usage:  What Eats My Free Memory?

For some time, I have noticed that my computer gets slower the longer I leave it on and do not restart.
Recently, I began displaying system memory usage from the activitiy monitor to see what's going on.
I noticed that no matter what I do, the Inactve Memory grows and the free memory disappears.
I thought it was due to memory hogs like Photoshop, FCP, etc.  But even when I quit those programs, the Inactive Memory remains large and only the Active Memory shrinks.
The Inactive Memory grows even (especially?) when I perform finder operations, like previewing file contents in the finder.
Eventually, I get to the point where the free memory disappears and the machine begins to slow down (or at least seems to).
What's going on and what, if anything can I do to keep this from happening?
I'm running an iMac3.4GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 Gigs of RAM and OS 10.6.8.

Thanks.  I'm not sure what you mean by "screen saver without energy saver" overnight.  My settings are screen saver after about 30 minutes, computer sleep after 1 hour.  Do you mean run the computer sleep slider up to "Never?"
    Otherwise:
--I don't use any of the programs you mentioned.
--I don't think I've ever seen Spotlight indexing
--Time Machine runs every hour of course, but nothing seems to change when it does.
--My 2 TB hard drive is only about 45% full.
--I usually quit programs, and especially Photoshop, when not in use.
--I do reboot occasionally, usually when I see Free Memory disappear.  This is usually every few days.
--I use Time Machine to backup using default settings.  My 2 TB drive is about 55% full.
I'll slide the energy saver slider over to "never" per the above and see how things go after a few days.
    Thanks for your help

  • [2008 R2] Hyper-V Dynamic memory warning with half of vHost memory free

Our virtual server host system has about 19GB of Memory free (out of 32GB total), yet a virtual guest using Dynamic Memory was only being assigned 8GB and the demand was around 13GB, therefore generating a Warning state on the Memory Status. Logging onto
the guest machine showed about 8GB of memory being used as well. The end-users were receiving memory errors in their applications. Any idea why the guest system was in this warning state?

There is a perception in the OS.  And different numbers come from different places.
In a nutshell, the RDP Server has a memory leak if you constantly disconnect and reconnect - and it ends up chewing up memory, but when available memory is tested this memory consumption is missed. If you logout of the RDP session instead of disconnecting
then the memory is given back and can actually be used.
It is a strange interaction with RDP that has been there since the original release.  But it is specific to using RDP to connect to the Hyper-V Server for VM Management and disconnecting without ever logging out.
There was also a google process that many folks reported a long while back that caused memory consumption that prevented VMs from starting as well.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Low System Memory

There seems to be a lot of threads on this subject, but no conclusive answers.
I'm getting a "running low on system memory, proceed with caution" error, then it usually hangs (sometimes I can save (or save as which works better)).
    System Info: Dell Studio XPS w/ i7-920 64bit, 6GB memory, 450GB HD w/ 236GB free, ATI Radeon HD3650 w/ 256MB, Windows 7 (64bit), latest drivers.
Virtual memory- custom @ 5000MB min and 15000MB max.
I just installed version 9 after using version 7 w/o problems for several years. Right now, I'm only trying to make a slideshow using jpegs that were massaged using photoshop elements 7 (4.5 x 6 300dpi). File size is generallyaround 2MB but some go as high as 4.
I have shut down everything I can in startup and running files (used enditall2). No additional programs that I can see are open. PE9 just seems to suck up memory until I run out, then I get the error. I have rendered the pictures after every 4 additions (PITA!).
When I first got the message, I un-installed PE7 and PS7, then uninstalled PE9 and PS9. I then re-installed PE/PS9. No help there. I initially had the files on a portable usb HD, but moved everything to the main (C:\) drive in my video folder.  I'm using the PE9 project settings: NTSC-DV-Standard 48KHz.
Appreciate any help I can get on this. I've already wasted way to much time on this.

First, do both a Save_As (increment your Project's name), then do a Save_As_a_Copy. I would Copy that copy to the external, for safe keeping.
Win7 has a better Windows Indexing system, than prior versions, so I do not know how much difference that will make. The 8GB RAM can likely be easily, and inexpensively bumped up to 16GB (make sure to match any RAM 100%). I would also take a look at this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2910195#2910195 and look into removing any unnecessary running programs, while you edit.
Take a look at your Windows Virtual Memory Page File, and see how it's managed, plus the size (if dynamically managed, then Min and Max). Allocating more HDD space to the Page File, if you have the HDD space. For a video-editing rig, I like to statically manage my Page File, and set it up, when I first install the OS, before the HDD's get filled to any level. Again, Win7 is better with the Page File, and with a 64-bit OS, if one has the installed RAM, then the Page File will see less use, than with 32-bit OS's.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Running low on system memory (PE8)

    Hi all
I recently started getting the "Premiere Elements is running low on system memory, please save your work and proceed with caution" message in PE8. I have read tons of topics and websites about the problem and tried every solution that was described in them. I'm not really expecting a solution, only some sympathy
    What I'm doing:
I'm from Belgium in Europe and I did a month long trip on Route 66 last year, together with a friend. Now I'm in the middle of making a road movie out of our footage. The clips were shot with a Samsung camcorder using the MP4 container. GSpot tells me it's using an avc1 H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec.
I started using these files without thinking, even though 1 minute of footage is approximately 100 MB large. That worked quite okay, but now I'm about 25 minutes into my montage and I'm getting an increased number of the "running low on system memory" message, at the point where they pop up after about a minute's work.
    What I tried:
Then I converted all the used video files using WinFF, into MP4 files with more compression, making the files about six times smaller in size. Now, when I open up PE8 and the interface is loaded, I immediately get the "running low on system memory" message, probably because PE8 is conforming the clips again. Because that didn't work, I put the original files back in place, but as expected that gave the same result. Now PE8 crashed when I try to do anything.
Before I start working, I make sure all other programs and their corresponding processes are shut down, so the computer has little else to do than keep me from being frustrated
    My system:
I'm running PE8 under Windows 7 Ultimate. I have an AMD Phenom 8600B triple core processor with 3 GB of RAM and one hard drive, divided into two partitions with 135 GB free on the disk where my movie clips and project file are. I moved the scratch disks in PE8 to an external hard drive that's connected through USB 3.0. I upped my virtual memory, the paging file is now 7070 MB large, with the custom size set initially to 4000 MB and a max size of 6000 MB.
    Last words:
I'm guessing PE8 is now crashing because it has too much to do reconforming all video and that I probably will be fine if I convert the clips first, and then start using them in PE. I will do that for the rest of my movie but I don't want to redo those first 25 minutes, because they almost literally cost me blood, sweat and tears.
    What I want:
A listening ear, a pat on the back and maybe the one solution that hasn't been uttered anywhere on the internet yet and somehow manages to rid me of all frustration

    Neale,
There is a green-screen video (video2) with a still picture background (as video1) that runs through the entire video.  The still is 720 px high by 800 px wide.
Again, creating the mpeg in for DVD widescreen, no problem.  FLV web medium, no problem.  FLV web large - memory problems.  When creating FLV web large, RAM usage never goes above 6½ to 7 GB.  No other apps running, anti-virus shut down.
    Maybe PE9 can't use all 24 GB?  As a 32-bit app, I guess it can't.
    Photoshop works well, at least.

  • CS3 "Running Low on System Memory" and crashing

    Hi all
I'm running CS3 on my less than three year old PC with the following specs:
    Intel Core 2 duo E8400 3.00 Ghz 6M 1333
3 Gigs of memory (DDR2 - two one gig chips, and two half gig chips) (max I can have on 32 bit XP, and well within Adobe's specifications)
    XFX GEForce 9800GTX 512 675M DDR3 Dual Vid Card
    Windows XP Professional 32 bit
C Drive:  250 GB Barracuda SATA 7200 RPM
D Drive (where I edit):  500 GB Barracuda 7200.11 SATA
The C drive is 33% free (40 GB free space)
The D drive is 40% free (188GB free space)
The scratch disks are all set for the D drive.
I actually specified this machine for running CS3 specifically.  In the last few months, however, I have been having instances where it throws this error:  "Adobe Premiere is running low on system memory.  Please save the project and proceed with caution."  I usually save then, and then if I perform a few more steps (like scrubbing through video, or moving a clip), it either freezes, or throws an error that it has met with a critical error and is going to shut down.
I don't understand why it has started to do this.  The files I am using are not any larger than those I've used in the past.  Some were shot with an SLR, but their file size and frame size are not and different than things I have sucessfully edited in the past.
I have had the machine to the shop, and they checked all the hardware, defragged the disks, validated that the memory is working, and that the vid card is working correctly.  The also updated the bios and made sure that Windows was up to date.
Right now, my workflow goes something like:  Open Premiere, edit for about six steps.  Get the warning.  Save.  Go another couple of steps.  Program crashes.  Open again, do about six more steps.... around and around.
    Can anyone help?
    LTK

I'm using cs3, xp, pretty much same setup you have but bigger Hard drives and more room on mine...constantly defrag after doing a project etc...keep it fast as I can....  I added memory to my mobo to make 4 gig...just to eek out as much as I could out of the ram...xp doesnt see it all, but I did notice a improvement with adding the ram...
also, when I added the ram it was apparent that of the slowest memory of your ram chips is what all the ram defaults to...so if you have slow 512K chips but fast 1gig chips, all your ram will operate at the slower speed.
when I get a mssg ( only trying to edit HD , as I never have probs with SD footage at all ) --sys mem low, I save , shut off computer and restart and reopen the program.... start from scratch more or less....so all my resources are free ( for example, if I use photoshop or something else while editing there may be memory leaks with some of that ....where not all the mem is freed up for editing... to solve that as a potential cause I save, reboot and begin again....)
after a LOT OF TESTING ( and I mean a lot ! ) I have discovered I CANNOT EDIT HD MATERIAL WITH THIS MACHINE...PERIOD.
It is not powerful enough... and believe me, I tried, both 1080p and 720p ...  after about 2-3 min of video on timeline at 720p at 24fps, this machine is gasping like a flounder out of water.
    good luck
( bottom line ----upgrade to 64bit OS and pile on the fastest ram you can stuff onto your new mobo and get at least one more HD ( at least 1T for your project ) look at the suggestions here for raid arrays etc ) and keep them 1/4 full only if possible...  the more full, the more time the heads are moving... more lost time...

  • Low system memory warning

I have been trying to create a photo gallery with Adobe Web Photo Gallery. No matter how many images I try to source I always get a 'low system memory'message, and I cannot display any picture(apart from one!). I have tried sourcing them from a jpg folder, and from iPhoto, but same result.
I have hardly anything stored on the computer, and I have 768 mb RAM. I am not using any other application when using Web Photo Gallery.
    What can be the problem?
    Cristina

    Hi again Cristina --
I wish I had more help to offer, but I'm really at a loss as to what might be causing your problem.
I ran an extensive search throughout the Discussions and didn't find anything and a similar search on the web in general and found only this: http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113267 Someone who apparently was experiencing the same problem as you, but whose post in a (non-Apple) Mac OS X forum was never answered unfortunately.
The only thing I still wonder is about, not surprisingly, your system memory, since that's what the error message points to. You wrote that you have 278 MB RAM used and 488 MB RAM free. Were those numbers taken right at the time you got the low system memory message, i.e., right when you were using Adobe Web Photo Gallery. If they were taken at another time they might not be painting an accurate picture of what's happening with your system exactly when you're getting the error message.
The only other thing I can think of is to ask Adobe about this situation and see if they have heard of it and know a solution.
    Good luck.

PS. You might also try posting un the Mac OS X 10.3 Panther forum here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=745 on the off chance that this might somehow be an OS-related issue (though I doubt it). AT a minimum, it will expose your question to a whole different set of potential helpers.

  • N96- where is 256MB system memory !

    Hi
i just bought today new n96 with "3" branding.I looked for installed memories and surprised to find "c" drive have only 60 mb free
i tried to figuer it out like this-
    File manager->c: phone memory-> then options->Details-> memory -> enter
it does scanning memory and result is-
    23 mb in use
    60mb free!!
    411kbcalender
    26kb contacts
    1kb messeges
    245 kb images
    0 kb saund files
    767kb video clips
    35kb documents
    0kb MIDP Applications
    16 mb other files
    Now it shows 60mb free+23mb i use = 83 mb !!
then where is 256MB system memory !
even my N95-1 shows same way
    53mb used & 94 mb free memory!!
I am not sure if Nokia Have forget to install memory chip on my mobile ie its defective mobile.
I welcome An invite views from other users by Heart!!

hey we are not talking about that he has no enough memory to use we are talking about wrong information about the handset like the Other trik of the Fake Navi weel and system stability.
and Ok I will give you a nice list about Nokia N96 that will make you change your directions about the handset just read them and tell me...isn't that a shame on Nokia ( and sorrowfully I am a big nokia fan):
1- Fake Navie Weel, yet the setting of it is still there so it
takes from the software memory with no reason.
2- slow performance of the handset (although this slowness was
not in previous handsets like N81 and N95 and newer handsets
should be more advanced not having drawbacks more than the
    earlier devices.
3- Here is our friend revealing another issue ( hidden memory)
that's by the way not enough for the handset to process
    faster.
4- strange sound when pressing the navigation key.
5- some people say that the device has problems with picture
    resolution. and Video conversion.
well Please tell me what's left in the handset for a better or nicer or even a smarter upgrade for previous handsets!
I have to say i used to dream about this handset but it turned to be a bad dream with large loss of money. I ask why released in the first place for Videos... please give me a real reason.

  • System memory usage seems high

hello. i have a 3 month old macbook pro 13 and when i just looked on activity monitor with no programs running but airport on it said i was using 2.28 gigs of system memory and 1.72 gigs was free. does that seem normal? the only program on here that didn't come stock is iwork. and as i said, nothing was running at the time. thanks.

When you look in the Activity Monitor, what is listed for inactive memory? As the linked article indicates, inactive memory is memory that was in use by another application that was closed and can either be reused by the application if you reopen it or can be used by any other application. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1342?viewlocale=en_us
So if your inactive memory is high, then you shouldn't spend too much time worrying about the amount that is "free" because the inactive memory is essentially free.

  • Crashes and read-only file systems

Notice: I apolgize for the long post, I've tried to be as thorough as possible.  I have searched everywhere for possible solutions, but things I've found end up being temporary workarounds or don't apply to my situation.  Any help, even as simple as, "have you checked out XYZ log, it's hidden here", would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
I'm not sure what exactly caused the issues below, but they did start to happen within a day of running pacman -Syu.  I hadn't run that since I first installed Arch on December 2nd of this year.
    Setup:
    Thinkpad 2436CTO
    UEFI/GPT
    SSD drive
    Partitions: UEFISYS, Boot, LVM
The LVM is encrypted and is broken up as: /root, /var, /usr, /tmp, /home
All LVM file systems are EXT4 (used to have /var and /tmp as ReiserFS)
The first sign that something was wrong was gnome freezing.  Gnome would then crash and I'd get booted back to the shell with all filesystems mounted as read-only.  I started having the same issues as this OP:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150704
At the time, I had /var and /tmp as ReiserFS, and would also get reiserfs_read_locked_inode errors.
When shutting down (even during non-crashed sessions) I would notice this during shutdown:
    Failed unmounting /var
    Failed unmounting /usr
Followed by a ton of these:
device-mapper: remove ioctl on <my LVM group> failed: Device or resource busy
Nother of these errors had ever appeared before.
After hours of looking for solutions (and not finding any that worked) I was convinced (without any proof) that my Reiser file systems were corrupt and so I reformatted my entire SSD and started anew - not the Arch way, I know   I set all logical volumes as EXT4.
    After started anew, I noticed
device-mapper: remove ioctl on LVM_SysGroup failed: Device or resource busy
was still showing up, even with just a stock Arch setup (maybe even when powering off via Arch install ISO, don't remember).  After a lot of searching, I found that most people judged it a harmless error, so I ignored it and continued setting up Arch.
I set up Gnome and a basic LAMP server, and everything seemed to work for a couple of hours.  Soon after, I got the same old issues back.  The System-journald issue came back and per the workaround on https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150704 and a couple other places, I rotated the journals and stopped journald from saving to storage.  That seemed to stop THOSE errors from at least overwhelming the shell, but I would still get screen freezes, crashes, and read-only file systems.
I had to force the laptop to power off, since poweroff/reboot/halt commands weren't working (would get errors regarding the filesystems mounted as read-only).
I utilized all disk checking functions possible.  From running the tests (SMART test included) that came as part of my laptop's BIOS to full blown fsck.  All tests showed the drive was working fine, and Fsck would show everything was either clean, or
    Clearing orphaned inode ## (uid=89, gid=89, mode=0100600, size=###
Free blocks count wrong (###, counted=###)
Which I would opt to fix.  Nothing serious, though.
I could safely boot back into Arch and use the system fine until the system decides to freeze/crash and do the above all over again.
The sure way of recreating this for me is to run a cron job on a local site I'm developing. After a brief screen freeze (mouse still moveable but everything is otherwise unreponsive) I'll systemctl status mysqld.service and notice that mysqld went down.
It seems that it's at this point my file systems are mounted as read only, as trying to do virtually anything results in:
unable to open /var/db/sudo/...: Read-only file system
After some time, X/Gnome crashes and I get sent back to shell with
    ERROR: file_stream_metrics.cc(37)
    RecordFileError() err = 30 source = 1 record = 0
    Server terminated successfully (0)
Closing log file.or_delegate.h(30)] sqlite erro1, errno 0: SQL logic error or missing database[1157:1179
rm: cannot remove '/tmp/serverauth.teuroEBhtl': Read-only file system
Before all this happened, I was using Arch just fine for a few weeks.  I wiped the drives and started anew, and this still happens with just the minimal number of packages installed.
I've searched for solutions to each individual problem, but come across a hack that doesn't solve anything (like turning off storing logs for journal), or the solution doesn't apply to my case.
At this point, I'm so overwhelmed I'm not even sure where exactly to pick up figuring this issue out.
Thanks in advance for any help

Did this occur when you booted from the live/install media?
What is your current set up? That is, partitions, filesystems etc. I take it you have not yet reinstalled X but are in the default CLI following installation?
If turning off log storage didn't help, reenable it so that you may at least stand a chance of finding something useful.
What services, if any, are you running? What non-default daemons etc.?
Does it happen if you keep the machine off line?
Have you done pacman -Syu since installation and dealt with any *.pacnew files?

  • System memory vs disk usage -- why is my hard drive almost full if my system memory is half empty?

I have a white Macbook, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of memory, Mac OS X, version 10.5.8, purchased in 2008. My Mac keeps warning me that my startup disk is almost full, and indeed Activity Monitor shows that my disk usage has minimal free space (2.31 GB). However, the System Memory tab shows that half my space is free.
Does the discrepancy mean that there is lots of space left on my Mac? If not, how can I identify if some sort of error is filling up my memory? Right now, I have a lot of music and documents stored on my laptop, but nothing else, and I would like to be sure it's those two things that are filling up the space.
What is the recommended method for adding more memory to my Mac, if nothing else?

There are two different types of memory in your Mac. There is system memory, more commonly referred to as RAM, and there is disk space. RAM is where the Mac works on data. Disk space is where data is stored for long term storage.
You are in serious danger of causing your Mac to die completely by running it with so little free space on your system drive. It is imperative that you start either deleting or move data off the disk drive. You should have 8 to 10 time as much free space at least at all times for OS X to run will.
A tool that can  with cleaning up your disk drive is OmniDiskSweeper. It will tell you the files and fol,der that are using the most space. That will give you good candidates for deletion or movement.

  • N97 how to remove ovi maps to get memory free

My phone always says not enough memory.
Because the OVI maps cost a lot of money when i am outside my country even when i use offline.
I decided to remove ovi maps complete to to get memory free.
So first i removed NOKIA MAPS and OVI Maps Wi-Fi/Network from application manager , installed maps.
But unfortunately OVI Maps is still on my phone.
So I tried to remove it from the menu with Optione Organize. But the delete will not show up.
Can anyone help so i get some memory free ?

Because the OVI maps cost a lot of money when i am outside my country even when i use offline.
I decided to remove ovi maps complete to to get memory free.
Whats the real issue ? Do you want to regain Memory really or ONLY because OVI Maps cost lot of money (???) . Because with proper settings OVI Maps will be totally FREE anywhere in the world.. Refer this ..
Maps should be pre-installed and set to Offline mode. Use only Integrated GPS Positioning method... and there should not be any cost incurred...

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 8 is low on system memory.  XP

Hi, I am running Adobe Premiere 8 on Windows XP 32 bit and I keep running into an error message that says Elements 8 is low on system memory.  Usually shortly after the program crashes and closes.  I've done some searching and the only fix I have found have been for Vista and 7 users but not for XP.  I am using a ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card and I have 4 gigs of RAM in the computer.  Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi!
I've been working hard. Here's an update.
I gave up on my first project. I started a new one, in a new directory. I tried to make sure my machine was as clean and lean as possible.
Here's a recap of what I did so far:
. Updated graphic card driver from the manufacturer's site
. Turned of PrE automatic rendering
. Turned off Adobe Auto Analyser
    . Disabled Antivirus (McAfee)
    . Disabled ScreenSaver
. Checked event viewer. Seems Ok.
    . Disabled rxfiler.exe using a utility from tools.roxio,com
    . Upgraded Quicktime from 7.6.8 to 7.6.9
    . Ran memtest86 4.1 - Memory OK.
    . Disabled windows indexing.
    . Killed a few processes before each session: vid.exe (logitech), toaster.exe (Dell), jusched.exe (Javaupdate), dsupd.exe (dell), cocimanager.exe
. Executed BCDEDIT /SET INCREASEUSERVA 3072 to allocate more memory to the programs.
Before I start PrE 8, memory usage is 1.26 GB.
Then I added one clip at a time wiht a transition. Rendered the clips. Click on Share then disc. This is when the BSOD appeared in my first project.
After I would save the project under a new version and add a new clip and a transition. Each time, it seems that only the new clip has to be rendered.
Everything was fine with the first 13 clips. Timeline is about 26 minutes, memory usage 2.46 GB.
I did not have the "very low on system memory" message.
Then I closed PrE8 and made a copy of the project files on an external disk (and went for lunch).
When I came back I started PrE8 and reopened my project. I checked on the timeline to see If I had to render the videos. I was surpised to see that there
was a lot to render. I did, it took about 20 minutes. After that, I clicked on Share and Disk and guess what: BSOD!!!!!
Now, each time I open a version of my project (I have 12 of it), it seems I have to render almost all the timeline.
    Questions:
    1. Is it normal that I have to render almost every videos every time?
    2. Could it be the fact that the rendering process is long (20 minutes) that PrE crashed badly (BSOD) when I try to burn a DVD?
    3. Does it mean I have to create my video montage in a single session (never close PrE)?
    4. Any suggestion on how I could recover from this situation and move forward with my project?
    Thanks,
