Only a fraction of my music appears under 'artist'

As the title says, I have probably 200 or so artists on all the music that I have saved to playlists over time, however when I go to my music then click artist there are probably only 15 artists there and all the rest are missing? It appears to be completely random so even when I have an album by various artists only one of them is there when I look in the artists view.
Thanks in advance for any help, the artist view to me is the best way to look through my music and it's so frustrating to not be able to find all that I have saved!

  • I need help! My song doesnt appear under artists...

Ok so, heres my problem: A song I have on my iPod that does not appear under Artists, it only appears under songs. I checked the spelling and punctuation and eveything is fine... I cant figure out whats wrong.
    help?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder.

  • When I add new music to iTunes, it doesn't appear under artists or anywhere else in library.

The other night, I tried adding a bunch of music that I had sitting on my Seagate external hard drive to my iTunes library, which is also located on my external. I attempted to add around 1,500 songs at once. It was giving me problems at first and only added some of the music so I tried again. Now I have a problem.
When I add new music, iTunes only recognizes that I added it after I close iTunes are restart it. But then, the music doesn't show up under artists or anything. The new music shows up under the Recently Added smart playlist, the folder is located in the iTunes library, and when you search for the music it says its there, but it's not under artists or in the song list or anything.
    Example:
    1. Added music from Abandon All Ships! (who I didn't have before), but they don't show up under artists despite the fact that iTunes says the music is there.
    2. Added music from Whitechapel (who I had before), but the album doesn't show up with the rest.
Hopefully this makes sense the way I explained it. It's all rather frustrating.

  • Songs not appearing under artists

    Hi,
I'm going to try and explain this the best way I can,
On my Ipod (30GB), some songs do not appear under the artist.
    Example:
I have two songs by Christina Aguilera, A is from the album "Stripped" and the other one (B) I haven't listed any album name (therefore it is Blank). So on my ipod when I go into:
    [ Music -> Artist -> Christina Aguilera -> All ]
    only song A is shown.
But if I go into [Music -> Songs ] I can find A and B...
    So you see my problem,
If you have any idea, please answer,
    Regards,
    Waq
      Windows XP Pro

"the other one (B) I haven't listed any album name (therefore it is Blank)."
    There is the problem.
See: Some songs don't don't show under artist on my iPod.
From what I understand, once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.

  • IPhone is not cataloguing music correctly under Artists

I'm using an iPhone 4 connecting to a new Mac running Lion. My iTunes on my computer catalogues my music correctly by artist, but when I sync to my phone, some (but NOT all) of my music doesn't show up under the "Artists" section in the "Music" app on my phone. The music IS THERE--If I go to to the "Albums" section or the "Songs" section it shows up by album/song but the artist is not listed underneath it.
    Here's an example:
I have many concerts/"albums" of the Grateful Dead that I've downloaded for free over many years. Some of these DO show up in the Artists as follows:
    Grateful Dead>Fillmore West>2-11-1970
But others will NOT show up under the Artists section. They only show up in Albums.
So in other words, I can't find these concerts/albums if I try to search by Artist because THEY AREN'T LISTED, even though they are in the phone!
The other thing I've noticed is that if I look in Albums, these particular ones will show up as follows:
    Boston Garden 9-25-1991
but the words "Grateful Dead" don't appear below the name of the concert/album as they should.
The ones that show up correctly under Artists have the words "Grateful Dead" under them when I view them in Albums. So there is something about the coding that is incorrect which prevents these particular albums to have the words Grateful Dead, and therefore they aren't listed when I look in Artists.
I have tried in iTunes to group by compiliation, create gapless albums, etc. and even retyped the name and artist name of each of the ones I'm having trouble with. But nothing seems to work. The Apple Store suggested I wipe out my phone and reinstall from my back up but that seems a bit extreme.
I CAN search my music via the Albums section and just bypass the whole "Artists" section altogether but I feel like there should be a solution to this. I know this is a very particular, detailed problem but would appreciate any help you can offer!
    Thank you!

I'm also having this issue - I'm getting about 27GB of garbage data put into the iPhone's 'other' category
    iPhone 5 64GB
    iTunes 11.4
    MBP 10.8.5
iTunes is set to 'convert larger songs to 128k AAC', and it's trying to sync a 9,500 song library which is a mixture of aiff, wav, mp3, m4p and a couple of m4v.
Previously these all fit on my iPhone a treat. Left iTunes last night after already having transferred around 7000 of them - iTunes informed me i'd have nearly 10GB space remaining. Came back this morning and iTunes shows my phone is now 15GB over capacity. It shows all the library has synced though - no greyed out songs.
When I go to the phone, that says it has 7GB space remaining and only 1700 songs synced. in the music app itself, there's very few songs in there. Looking in Settings>General>Usage, there's no visibility of where that 27GB is being used up. Music category is only 11GB (which should be more like 38GB).
Please help I've wiped and resynced my phone 3 times now, it's driving me mental: I just want to listen to music. I've never had this issue with Android's drag n drop.

  • Music on iPod but not under Artists

I have recently put on some new music to my iPod (now 1year old) and have noticed it appears under the "recently added" playlist, and the album will appear under "albums", however, the artist will not appear under "artists".
It seems to occur only with artists begining with B, Beyonce and Bela Fleck are the songs I happen to have added. This may be pure coincidence, but I have not noticed any other missing artists and I have also added artist such as Travis and this has appeared as normal.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • All my songs by certian artists don't appear under their names, but all their songs appear under 'all songs'

So when I search for a specific artist on my phone, say, Whitney Houston, I only see like 3 or 4 songs, but when I go to see all the songs on my iphone, all her other music is there.
I've checked my music on iTunes on my mac and I see that her name is spelled correctly for all songs and none are checked off with "skip when shuffling" or anything like that.
I've noticed the same issue for other artists too. My songs appear under all songs, but not always under their artist name.
What can I do so all my songs appear under their artist name?

Please help me-this is driving me crazy.
I recently downloaded some new music from iTunes. The music is displaying correctly in iTunes and I have synched my iPod. But on my iPod, the new music displays everywhere except under the Artist section. Why would this be?

  • When I tried to add a song to my iPod, it won't appear under "Songs."

If I choose to add it to a playlist, it'll appear on my iPod in the playlis and I can play the songt, but no matter what I do it won't appear under songs. The artists name also won't appear under artist.

I have the same problem, and after hours of trying to figure out the problem i finally did!! Its going to be a pain in the *** but its the only way. :/
    1. Look for the song file.
    2. Right click and choose prefences
    3. Go to details and edit the information
    -  "Title" aka songs name
    -  "Album artist"
    - "Album"
-The rest of the stuff can be filled in if you want
    4. Click OK
    5. Drag it into itunes

  • Songs Not Showing Up Under Artists

So ive put my entire iTunes music library onto my brand new 5th generation Ipod, yet a bunch of my songs arent listed under their appropriate artist. For example, i have a bunch of ACDC songs on my iTunes that are all labelled "ACDC" under Artists with the exact same spelling....yet only one song shows up under ACDC on my iPod. I know that the rest of the songs are on my Ipod because i can reach them by scrolling through by song name, but I'd like them to show up under their appropriate artist too. Any suggestions?

  • IPod wont show songs under artists

    Referring to this website: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302773
    i have a question:
I am experiencing the same problem as described on that page. Only thing is, it is much more severe for me. I'm guessing that over 100 of my 900 songs wont show under artists.
Yet, most of my songs do not have an album name.
First question, why do only a part of those songs that don't have an album name not show under artists on my iPod?
Secondly, is there no easier way to get this problem fixed than giving the songs an album name? Firstly, it's impossible for me to know what songs do show and which are not shown under artists on my iPod, i only know a few. It's not like im going to go through all 900 songs to find this out. Secondly, i do not know the correct album name for each song. If i fix an album name, i want it to be correct and not made up in my head. Thirdly, it takes ages and ages to name albums for all songs that do not have album names.
So is there any easier way?

"First question, why do only a part of those songs that don't have an album name not show under artists on my iPod?"
It's a bug as far as I know, possibly in the future some update or change to iTunes and/or the iPod software will rectify it.
"Secondly, is there no easier way to get this problem fixed than giving the songs an album name"
At the moment, no there's not.
"it takes ages and ages to name albums for all songs that do not have album names"
Actually you can do it quite quickly. Sort your library by Album to bring all the blanks together. Click on the first song in the list and holding down the Shift key click on the last. This will highlight all in between . Right click on the list and chose Get Info, say yes when you are asked if you want to update multiple items. Put None or Unknown or any title of your choice in the album field and click OK. This should sort the problem out for you.
There's also one other thing that that contributes to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod and that is if the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. • Still shows deleted files; also,  not showing new listings under "artists".

I deleted some lectures from my ipod, and deleted the playlist that contained them, but when I sync my ipod, the deleted playlist shows, containing one of the 70 files that it used to contain.
2nd problem...I added a bunch of music from some cd's, they synced ok, showing the artist, the album, etc. However, when I look for the artist on my ipod, it doesn't show.
Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

  • Artists not under artists in my ipod

I've been having a problem with only a few artists, but it's just annoying and I want to know how to fix it. With the artists 'puff daddy and the family' 'juno' which is a soundtrack but i put it under the name instead of various artists also 'taking back sunday' and 'zz top' they are on my ipod because I can find them under the names of their albums, but when I look under artists they aren't listed. Is this a technical problem with the ipod classic because I just had to exchange one because it had this problem and more. It's not a problem with my ipod nano though.

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.

  • Not all songs appearing in Artist view

I have an issue where under Artist view, which is what I normally use to browse songs on my iPod, not all of the songs that are stored on my iPod appear. So far, it appears that if I have an artist with songs under only one album (and tagged as such) and also a few miscellaneous songs that aren't tagged with album name information, then when I select that Artist under the artist view, it automatically opens the album and only shows those songs. When I hit menu to go back, it just goes back to the listing of all artists I have, instead of giving me an "All" option that will allow me to see the additional songs that I have. If I want to find those songs, I have to scroll through the list of 3500+ songs under the all songs listing, which obviously takes forever, even scrolling quickly.
I have verified the tags on all 3500+ songs, and have reset/reinstalled and deleted/reloaded all software and songs, multiple times.
Is this a bug? If not, how can I get these songs to show properly under the Artist view?

There are a couple of things you could check out that might explain what's happening. Usually two things contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
