Only able to access wireless network through system diagnostics

I have a Macbook (white, early 2008). Wherever I go my Airpot works fine at connecting, but at home, whenever I try connecting to the wireless network normally (clicking the airport tab, choosing network, etc.), I enter the password, which I know 100% is correct, and it always gives me timeout error or some other load of fertilizer that never fails to frustrate me. The only way I have found to access (more like force) connection is to go through system diagnostics, where if I change the security type (which you can't through the airport tab) to WPA 40/128-bit hex. Then, entering the numerical password, I can finally access the network and the notification "Your setting's have been changed. Click OK to continue" sometimes appears. I move my computer around and have to switch locations (one of which requires a proxy; could this be a cause?) to access different networks.
My question is: Is there any way to fix this and allow automatic connection to the network?

actually as a matter of fact I did manage to fix this issue. I have absolutely no clue how it worked and I don't know if it will work for you but it's worth a shot
Make sure you're connected to the internet.
System Preferences > Network > Location
Under the drop menu, go to "Edit Locations"
There create a new location. You can call it whatever.
When you create this location, you should still be connected to this network when you switch from location to location, provided their settings are the same.
Now, whenever I'm using my first Home location (the default I think), I still can't access it automatically. But with the Home 2 (the second location I made), it now automatically connects. Strange. It might work for you but I have no clue how this actually worked.

Have a 802.11n time capsule, the range of the wireless network has shrunk down to nothing over last few days. Used to be able to use wireless network anywhere in house, but now can only use in my office. Will not connect to iphones, ipad, itouch, or notebook. Worked fine last week, but over weekend just started having issues.

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has appeared recently that is preventing your Time Capsule (TC) from providing a clean RF signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible. Look for other Wi-Fis that may be operating nearby. Note those with the strongest signals and which channels they are operating on ... then change the channel used by the TC to be at least 3-5 channels away.

Bruce777 solved this for me, thank you Bruce! My printer now works perfectly on my new wifi network!
Bruce's  instructions, for anyone else having the same issue:
    - delete any previously set up printers
    - scrub old hp software and update software to get the hp 2.8 drivers
    - remove the usb cable from the printer if you have one connected
    - reset the printer network to hpsetup (hold down the power button and press network button 2x and then cancel 3x, release power button.)
    - print out the wireless network test report (hold down the network button and press the update button 2x). verify the network name / ssid is hsetup
    - got to sys prefs > network and change the mac wireless network to hpsetup
    - go to the sys pref > print scan
    - add the HP 8000 printer
    - click on the options and supplies button and click on the Show Printer Webpage
    - click on the networking tab > wireless in the left pane > start network wizard and change the network from hpsetup to your network
    - finish (this page may freeze up.  close the browser)
    - go back to the sys prefs and change the wireless network back to your networt
    - go to the printer and print out the wireless network test report (press network button and update button 2x).  Check that the SSID is your network
    - go to sys prefs > print scan > select your printer > options & supplies > show printer webpage > network info (check ssid and compare to wireless network test report)
    - try printing something to your printer.  It might take a little time the first print.

  • Wireless Network Monitoring System

    Hi friends,
I am planning to implement a Wireless network monitoring system as my final year project.
In this project I need to control calls from one mobile to another with the help of JCC or some other technique. Mobiles will be connected to Pc in the following pattern:
Mobile to radio transceiver which will further be connected to pc using RS232 serial port.
This way i will 3 mobiles connected in the similar manner as above.
I just want to know how i can control my calls from these mobiles??
Please guide me, as in how should i start??
    Regards

Have you ever experienced any cross browser issues, when you
really build an app for critical app like this?
not really ... the only crazy thing i have seen is how each
    browser uses memory..
you will see higher usage from IE than.. firefox...
IE also has an issue with cache.. so you have to reset your
page at every visit...( i cut that short thinking you understand
    what i am talking about)
your biggest issue is the engine and processing of data..
thinks like that.. how you put that together will be HUGE..

Known bug.  Quit the Camera App, double-tap the home key and delete Camera from the recent apps bar. Fire it up again, should be good.

    Hi,
I recently depoyed my application on clustered environment of weblogic 8.1 SP4.
Now I am able to access the application through the managed server name with port number but not able to access through URL.
    For ex
    http://machine1:7001/test/login.do?m=begin
    this is accessible
    If I use
    http://test.domain.com/test/login.do?m=begin

    Hi Syed,
I meant to ask are you able to see the application you created in Hyperion Planning Login page,if yes try accessing the created application through Hyperion Planning(Try restarting Planning Services once even if you are able to launch hyperion planning page) url "http://servername:8300/HyperionPlanning and selecting the application you created.
And also could you please let me know if you are logging in to workspace through admin username ? and also check if you are able to see the application in shared services and try to provision any group on that application.
(The Assumptions are if application is not created successfully then it will not be available in workspace to launch and if its in maintainance mode (Application Maintenance Mode) in Application Settings and last would be check OHS and Hyperion Planning Services)

My iPhone5 was replaced today and when I did a restore I was only able to access a previous backup to the backup that I did yesterday? Hence, I do not have access to some apps such as ebooks and games. Can you help resolve this issue?

My girlfriend had a similar issue because her new device was not updated to IOS7 when she turned it on, but her backup point was created using IOS7.  Check to be sure the restore point was created and then factory reset the phone after you have updated to 7.

  • Why are all my devices acknowledging my wireless network through my time capsule, but only one is able to connect to the internet?

This started when I changed the port for cable modem access.  If I shut everything down- router, MacBook, and iPhone and restart the router... the device I turn on first will connect to the internet.  The second device will read the wireless network but if you attempt to connect to the internet- it states no internet connection is available.  Is this a security feature I enabled unknowingly?  Very frustrated.

You are using your TC in the wrong way.. in bridge and it has to be in router mode.
Simply make sure you connect SB5100 to the WAN port of the TC.
Go to the airport utility, manual setup, internet tab on the bottom and choose connection.. ethernet.. and down the bottom connection sharing.. share a public IP.. sorry I don't have the exact wording as my TC is in pieces being fixed.
Update and then shut off everything again, particularly the modem.. start everything in order.. modem.. wait 2min.. then TC.. wait 2min then all the computers .. they will get an IP from the TC. With correct address and gateway.
What was happening is the first device to turn on was capturing the one and only public IP. The rest get local IP without connection.

  • Is it possible for a mac to run across a Windows based server such as in a school, and still be able to access all networked folders? I have been told that macs can only read down a certain number of folders

Is it possible to run a mac on a windows based server? We have a server based on Windows 7 in our school, and our techies are reluctant to let me buy a mac as they say macs can only read a number of folders deep, which would preclude me from accessing shared folders on our servers. Is this true, and is there a way round this? I would eventually like to get a suite of macs, but because all our resources are on the server, I have to be able to access them.
    Thanks for any help,
    Mike

I have found that both Linux and Mac (unix) are capable of reading "deep" folders while win 32 will have issues, your it people are clearly wrong.  I run a network with both win/mac. And as long as the win servers/pc's that have shares are set to allow apple file sharing in their folder properties.   And the macs are set to allow smb there should absolutely no trouble with you accessing anything across the platforms, heck, from a Mac to a win pc on some occasions you don't even need to include a "domain" name to log on to, and you can create aliases and make your own shortcuts etc... So you don't have to manually connect each time you boot up etc... But that's all personal preferences I suppose.
All I can tell you is that, I do it on a daily basis managing a small business. So your answer is yes you can.

  • Only able to connect to internet through Broadband DSL one computer at a time.

    Hi,
I am using Verizon Broadband DSL, and have used it for a few years.
    Equipment:
    Westell Versalink Model 327W
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router Model WRT54G
I have a desktop (running Windows XP), and 2 laptops (1 XP, 1 Vista) that are connected wirelessly. Until recently all 3 computers have been working fine, connecting to the internet on the wireless network.
The problem is this: When any one of the computers is connected to the internet through the DSL none of the others computers is able to connect – I see the message “Connecting through WAN miniport (PPOE)…”, i.e. I am only able to connect to the internet 1 computer at a time.
As soon as I disconnect from the ‘connected’ computer (desktop or laptop) I am immediately able to successfully connect to the internet on either of the other 2 computers.
I’ve tried resetting everything – no luck.
I don’t recall having changed any of the settings and am baffled.
Any thoughts as to the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Charlie
PS. I haven't called the Verizon DSL Tech Support team yet...but I will soon. I figured on asking here first.

    Ok.
#1 You must get to the network control panel on your computer.
One of the ways, for Windows XP is:
    a) Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
    b) The screen will look like steps 5 and 6, on http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
    For Windows Vista:
    a) Go to the globe icon (start button) -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Network Connections.
    b) The screen will look like steps 5, 6, and 7, on
    http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm
#2 Right click on the WAN miniport (PPPOE), and remove the check mark that says Set as Default Connection.
    ^^

  • IPad 2 can only connect to unsecured Wireless network.  It won't connect to my secured network at home or at work

Two days ago my ipad 2 with (wifi only) will not connect to my secured network even though it show's up as available with a strong signal.  It keeps rejecting my password.  I brought the Ipad to work and the same issue.  However I am able to connect to an unsecured wireless network with no issue.  Is this a network/router issue or an ipad issue?  If it's a network issue what is the fix? calling my internet provider to change router settings?

    - I've used the correct pw (it worked till 2 days ago)
    - I use road runner from Time warner, not sure of the mac address filtering
    -Security is WPA PSK.
I called road runner to request they remove my pw and see if i can access my wireless if that works which i believe it will then it has to be a security issue.  I'm using a 802.11n wifi access point, if that means anything.

  • Cannot Access Wireless Network During Apple TV Set-up

I recently purchased Apple TV and was trying to set it up last night. I got as far as selecting the language. The ATV detects my home wireless network (as well as a couple of other nearby wireless networks), and allows me to select it, but I kept getting an error message stating that I could not connect and to try again later (then there was a (-6) at the end of the error message). It is not a password protected network.
I then unplugged ATV, my television, and my wireless router, waited a minute, plugged everything back in, and went through the drill again, with the same result.
I then re-started ATV using the remote and tried again. Same result.
I then ran diagnostics, which told me that ATV is running as it should be. Tried again with no luck.
I then tried the factory restore (even though I’ve yet to actually use the hardware), and got the same result.
I have a Dell Laptop, G4 iMac, and an iPod Touch that all connect to the network (from anywhere in my house) without issue.
I saw the following potential explanation/remedy, but I have no idea how to go about doing this:
Check the IP address Apple TV is using. If it starts with 169.x.x.x, then the router or base station may not be configured properly. Check to see if DHCP access is available or configure Apple TV with a manual IP address.
    Any insights (please)?

Forgive me for the next question, which will probably reveal my ineptitude when it comes to doing anything other than following the directions of a setup wizard... but does my AppleTV even have an IP Address if it can't connect to my network in the first place?
I pinged "AppleTV.local" from another PC on my wireless network and it came back empty. I don't know how to otherwise go about getting the IP address.
Also - incidentally, I was able to connect ATV to a neighbor's open network, but obviously can't stream from my iTunes library. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't tried it, because I was able to watch a few movie trailers and now I have a better idea on what I am missing out on.

  • Macbookpro was stolen/recovered - how to track accessed wireless networks?

    Hi All,
I have a MacBook Pro that was stolen and then recovered weeks later from someone who was not the original thief... Is there a way to find out the names of wireless networks accessed in hopes this would lead to the ID of the original thief? I've been looking at Console log under Diagnostic and Usage Messages, and here I can see exactly when the machine tries to autojoin wireless networks that have been remembered (and this is very useful), but wondering if I can find out the actual name of the network(s) joined in the hours after the laptop was stolen from me.
Thanks for any info you can provide!

Try the following to see if this will provide some information:
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Network
Click on the AirPort connection on the left of the window
Click Advanced at the lower right
A list of previously joined networks will appear if the option to remember networks has been checked...unless this information has been deleted.

  • Can Wired Printers Print Over A Wireless Network Through USB Connection to the Router

I have been told by supposed experts that I can use older wired printers wirelessly through USB connections on a router and I have been told by other supposed experts  that it does not work.  This is what I have and what I am trying to do:
In my new home I have limited space and I dedicated an unneeded closet to office and computer stuff.  I rebuilt the closet with shelves and drawers and I added power outlets and phone and coax jacks.  I use a wireless HP Pavilion laptop (about a year old) running Vista anywhere in the house.  The computer closet has an HP C309 wireless printer, an HP D4260 wired printer, and an Epson Photo R280 printer.  I can't get cable or FIOS right now, so I am running the internet on DSL at 3.0MB.  That signal goes into a router supplied by Verizon and I jump it over to a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router with USB.
There is no particular reason to have the Netgear router in the lineup except that that two networking "experts" (their term -- I have no frame of reference to judge them) said I could connect the HP D4260 and the Epson printer via USB cables to the Netgear router and then send documents to them over the wireless network.  When I have these two older printers connected to the Netgear router, the network does "see" them and shows them as network printers.  However, no documents ever arrive at them.
As an author, I print thousands of pages a year in draft mode for review and I would prefer to use the HP D4260 as it is far cheaper to operate and it prints far faster and quieter than the HP C309.  Connecting it directly to the laptop is not convenient as it is nowhere near where I use the laptop.
Is there anyway to get at least the HP D4260, and preferably also the Epson R280, to print wirelessly via the network by connecting them to the USB port on the Netgear router?  If not, I will have to buy a cheap, fast wireless printer, something I really don't want to do.
    Thanks.

You did not give the model number of your Netgear, but I am sure that some Netgear routers with USB support USB hard drives and printers, where some models only support USB hard drives.
Either provide your model number or look at your documentation to see if your router actually supports printing.
Also, since you essentially have two routers in your home, make sure that ALL devices (printers and computers) are connected to the Netgear router, not to your DSL router.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP

  • Instructions for extending a wireless network through a wired connection

These are the instructions for extending a wireless network by wiring two airports together.
The benefit of this is to provide a strong signal in more locations in your home or business.
The advantage of this technique over WDS is that the wired connection is faster and more reliable.
These instructions assume you have a) an existing wireless network setup using an airport , b) a new airport that you want to add to your network, c) you can run a cat 5 cable between the two airports, and d) you are familiar with the airport utility.
If while using these instructions you are prompted to update your airport firmware please do so.
    1) Gather the following information from your existing Airport on the Summary tab of Airport utility:
    a) Wireless Network Name
    b) Wireless Security
    c) You will also need the password, which hopefully you just know.
    2) Plug in your new Airport, connect it to the existing Airport using a cat 5 cable.
    3) Reset the new Airport using the tip of a paper clip. On my Airport Express that is next to the audio out.
    4) After a short wait the new Airport should appear in Airport Utility with a generic name.
    5) Click the new airport and click "Manual Setup". You may have to cancel out of some popups to get to the Manual Setup button.
    6) On the "Base Station" tab set a "Name" that does NOT equal the the name of your old Aiport. Also set the password. This us the password that one uses to make changes to the setup of the Airport.
    7) On the "Wireless" table set a "Wireless Network Name", "Wireless Security", and "Password" to exactly match that of your old Airport. This is the password that one uses to gain access to the network.
    8) On the "Internet->Internet Connection" tab set connection sharing to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
    9) Click "Update" at bottom right of Airport Utility.
    10) Test by using "Advanced->Logging and Stats->Wireless Clients" to see which clients are connecting to which Airport.

Thanks for the reply.  Like I said, I am pretty new to this.  So I need to buy something like this to put in my media center then?

Do I even need the Wireless N router at all, or will the Westell do the trick?  I'd be looking to stream HD from my main home PC, so I need good wireless speed.
I assume that there is a tv in your media center so what would make much more sense would be to get a coax splitter and split the coax at that tv and then move the vz westell router to the other side of the splitter.  It really makes no matter where the westell router is on the coax setup and doing this should allow you to connect your devices directly to the router.
So the coax feed from the ONT comes in through the garage into the office and is connected to the Westell in the office (which is hard-wired into my office PC).   If I move the Westell to the entertainment center I'll be in the same boat w/ my office PC then, i.e. needing a wireless connection to the Westell to get internet access.  Am I missing something here?
