Only access to Safari. How?
Hello
I need one application that blocks all services except internet browsing with Safari.
I tested with the restrictions, but still have access to many applications and I want the user only has access to iPad Safari and Internet.

In Apple stores in Spain have iPad configured so that the user can only browse information from a website, and when you want to use another application of the iPad, you must enter a combination to exit this site.
These iPad and are lit with that site when the store opened, with what I understand to start Safari and Safari only be used

On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture. How can I access the Aperture Library on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup? I can only access the application but not the library..
Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it. -
I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook, both were configured at home to access the time capsule. I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home. The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow. Accessing the same files from an older HP laptop is as fast as accessing its own hard drive. How can I speed up the accessing of these files from my apple products. One would think they would work fast and the 'windows' computers would take minutes to map the drive each time...

This cannot happen by magic though.. you must have configured the mini to access the TC remotely.. which method are you using, BTMM and iCloud??

How is the Macbook configured to access the TC remotely?? If you are trying to use BTMM and iCloud, then it might be a case that with the mini running the connection cannot be done by more than one computer at a time.. this is generally the case although I do not know if that is specifically true of BTMM method. Try turning off the mini and leave it off.. (off not standby)... then reboot the TC when you are at home.. and then try and connect the laptop to the TC the next morning from work. See if it is then able to capture the connection.. if so start up the mini and I suspect it now will not be able to connect.. that will prove that the TC cannot cope with two remote connections.
There also could be another factor in here. If you are accessing the laptop via the same router as the mini is on.. then actually you cannot have two users mount the same files on a TC.. from the same IP address.. as far as the TC is concerned both devices have identical IP, that is the public IP of the work location router.
If you happen to not be using BTMM then the situation is even easier.. you cannot make two different devices connect to the same network resource using the same port. That is the failing of the NAT system.. one device uses the port then it cannot be used by a second device. You will need to do some fancy footwork and use a different port.
Anyhow tell us exactly how you are doing remote access.. otherwise I am just guessing.

Are you talking about files you are hosting on the TC?? Not Time Machine backups??
Can you tell me exactly how you are accessing the TC.. please do a test..
Copy a file to the TC and from the TC using the Laptop.. Use a single very large file, eg 1GB movie file.
Give me a read and write speed.. you can use activity monitor to give me an aprox average speed as well as peak.
Do the same test from the same computer with wireless turned off running ethernet.
Then do the tests from the mini.. same ones.. copy large file to and from the TC by ethernet and by wireless.. when using ethernet make sure wireless is off.
I strongly recommend you set IPv6 to link local only for your wireless and ethernet setup in the Mac.

Now do the test from the HP laptop and give me the results from that.
Is the issue wireless only.. ??
Then you might need to spend a bit of time fixing the wireless in the Macs.. you can run wireless diagnostics in Mavericks.

You don't have to use the same ID for iCloud as you do for purchasing. You can just set up iCloud using your other ID.
If your have already have another account, you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted, set up your new account with the other ID, turn on your iCloud data syncing and when prompted, choose Merge to upload your data to the new account. -

How to create a read only access for database
I am developer but willing to lear some of the dba tasks. I would like to know the steps that i need to take to creat a read only access database that is going to be used for the report development.
I really appreciate if you tell me all the steps I need to create that. I have created a login for one of the user , and i used deny view to deny that user access to any of the databases to be shown.Now, he cannot see any databases in the explorer window.
My question is now i want to give this user permission ( read-only) to a single database. How can i do that? I have googled around and found some solutions but nothing is working.
Can someone please help me with any suggestions.

Thanks for your reply, I am not sure i got it. I have a user created with the name of 'msam_test' and if i login into management studio with this userid and password i dont see any databases showing up because i used the DENY View command to hide which is
working fine.Now i just want to see only 1 database named 'suresh3_test' with a read only access to this database.
I tried using your code in the below way

How to set owner-only access file permissions both on Linux and Windows
Hi everybody.
I have the following problem. I need to store some private user information in file system. So I need to set owner-only access permissions for some directory in user home. I did not find API for doing this. As I understand this is platform specific thing. Could anybody tell me how can I do this both on Linux and Windows?

Each OS requires a different control.
For Windows you will need to set the .policy file for each user (a pain if you have more than a dozen of clients) granting access (R or RW) to files/directories.
Then you have to write some native code (access via JNI) to access/modify your authorization.
A more professional solution that I used was J-Integra (other similar tool exist).
Basically it is a bridge between Java and COM. It magically give you access to the COM API from Java (and vice versa).
In my case it was to read/write/modify Winword documents transfered between PC and server.
From memory you have to run the com2java.exe to build the bridge (classes in Java language) between the 2 families. Compile those classes and you have a "driver" for the COM (Microsoft Objects).
Here I must confess my ignorance on Microsoft.
Those COM objets must give you some easy/integrated access to the API for LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory Service (for centralize control with more complex setup). -

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

On 22 July Firefox was upgraded on my Mac using OSX. This morning 23 July I cannot access my Virgin Cable email properly. Virgin email was upgraded in early 2010 but I can now only access 3 emails dated 19th May 2010 showing the old style email format. Safari is OK and accesses the email correctly. I have reinstalled Firefox this morning using Safari but the problem still occurs.

I need do download Photoshop Extended from my adobe account. I bought it in 2011 when I live in Canada and was using a windows based laptop. I now live in South Africa and use a Mac. I can only access my products and serial numbers. How do I download???
As long as you have a legitimate serial number, you can just download a trial version of the version you need from the public Adobe site, install it and input your valid serial number upon installing it.
You will need to apply all available updates, as all downloads are of the original release.
The Extended and the Standard version of Photoshop are one and the same binary. It's your serial number that makes it Extended or Standard. -

This is to avoid piracy. What could happen is, people could buy music, and give it away for free online. Usually it is then you buy a complete album off iTunes that it will only be available on one device. It is tied to that account, and the device must be registered to that account to listen to it.

Install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo)
It's ok to do this even though v10.7.5 is already installed. The combo replaces any missing system files.
Restart your Mac after the combo installed then try Safari.
If that doens't help, try repairing permissions.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Repair Disk Permissions
You should see: Repair Permissions Complete when it's finished.
Then try Safari. -
How to restore older backups? I can only access the latest backup but I need the one before that.
You would only have that backup if you saved it somewhere.

It doesn't seem to cover your specific issue, but have you tried using a different network (either a different wi-fi network, or switching from wi-fi to cellular or vice-versa if you have a wi-fi+cellular iPad)?
For GMail, iCloud and Yahoo, copies of messages are stored on their respective servers, so you could try deleting the account on your iPad, then re-adding each account one at a time to see if that resolves the issue.
