Only apple software works

Since I reinstalled my software from my timemachine, my macbook pro 13" 2011 i7 4GB is acting weird.
Only apple's software makes a connection to the internet.
Other software products like chrome, spotify and dropbox tell me there is some sort of proxy problem.
When opening spotify it says:
there is problem, your firewall blockes spotify, or you are using a proxy.
But I've resetted the proxy settings to the original state, which is none of the choices selected in system preferences, and turning off my firewall doesn't help.
What should I do?

Not sure what this means.
Do you have an app called 'Little Snitch' installed?

  • TS4123 Autoruns shows ONLY Apple software. SO, Bonjour is culprict! Fix your program!

I followed Apple's suggestion to resolve the high CPU usage by iTunes. Running Autoruns (MS) shows Bonjour is the ONLY LSP provider. My conclusion is that Apple's software is defective and they don't want to admit it.
is there any solution for this problem?

    SOLVED IT
Right click on Apple Software Update in the Start Menu and bring up the Properties Window
    Select the Security tab
Select your Username (don't worry about what rights the computer Administrators group has, it does not apply here) and select Edit
After you pressed Edit, you should have a Window that shows all the computer groups (Administrators, etc.) and usernames (yours and other users (if any)) on your computer. Select yours.
Change your Rights to Full Control, press OK.
Press Apply, applying the changed settings to Apple Software Update, then press OK to close the Properties Window.
You can now run Apple Software Update and see what programs (updates) there are to download. For some reason, the latest update which came down gave the computer user (in this case, you--meaning pitiful us) no rights other than deleting. This meant that we could not see anything--no updates, nothing. What we just did through this list was give the ability back to the user.

  • Hotspot problem: Only Apple products work, Why???

    Hi,
I am having issues with the personal hot spot on my iPhone 4s.
Firstly it was not there when I got the phone!!
EE sent me a text, read and delete. Turn phone off and then on. It was there, Great!!!
Why is it that I can only connect Apple products to it???
I have tried it with a Fujitsu Siemens laptop running Windows 7, I have tried a Dell Laptop running Windows 7.
I have tried a Fujitsu laptop running Windows XP and even my old Nokia N8-00 mobile phone.
They all connect and the Iphone says connected but no traffic, always "Webpage not available"
Connect using my iPad and straight on no problems what so ever.
    Please help!!!

Exactly which model AE is this??
    What firmware is it running?
Does the PC work if you plug in by ethernet? Is this only wireless issue?
(You mention the problem is with all PC's you tried but not if you were using wireless or ethernet)
I am guessing wireless as if there are problems it is generally wireless.
Does the PC get DNS address?
If you open a command prompt can you do a couple of tests.
    ping 8.8.8.8
    What does that do?
    tracert 8.8.8.8
Copy and paste here the results of ipconfig /all
Has the windows computer located itself to home.. or is it work or public?
For internet access it should not matter but I would prefer to see it located home.

  • DVD SuperDrive can't be used by Apple Software. HELP!

So a few days ago I replaced the internal CD drive of my PowerMac G4 Quicksilver with a genuine Apple DVD SuperDrive. It works great with regular CD's, and blank CD-R's, but Disk Utility and iDVD don't recognize DVD-R's anymore (not even with my USB DVD drive that supports every type of disc). Disk Utility always says that they are "Read-Only". And iDVD says that a 4.7gb disc is 0 mb.
This doesn't happen however, with apps such as Toast, which knows that it's a 4.7gb blank DVD-R and will burn to it with both the USB and internal drive. Even Apple System Profiler says this:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-103:
    Firmware Revision: 1.90
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: No
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media:
    Media Type: DVD-R
    Blank: Yes
    Erasable: No
    Overwritable: Yes
    Appendable: Yes
Whereas Disk Utility says this about the same disc:
    Disk Description : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-103
    Total Capacity : 0 Bytes
    Connection Bus : ATA
Write Ability : Read Only (DVD-R)
    Connection Type : Internal
    Capabilities : CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW
    Connection ID : Device 0
    Partition Scheme : Unformatted
And iDVD just complains that [any] video exceeds the maximum size allowed. Upon reading the Project Information like it said to, it says that the maximum size for the disc is 0 mb.
I seriously don't understand what is going on here, I've never had a computer do this kind of thing, where some programs fail after replacing hardware, but some don't. I have a really good repertoire with computers (both PC and Macintosh) but I'm stuck here. I tried all the usual things; Repaired/Verified the disk and permissions (of my Tiger and OS 9 HDD's), checked for a firmware update on the Apple Support Site, but both of those said that I didn't need the update after it finished "installing". Any ideas anyone???

Well of course they dropped it, the drive is almost the same age as the computer haha, which was also forgotten about after only a year before they went on to another model. But even so, the computer originally shipped with the option to have a DVD-RW drive, but it was about $200 cheaper to get it without, and at the time, most people didn't even need the DVD drive. So it comes naturally with the ability to use it.
But I think I know where you're coming from, so I decided to check what iTunes 9 would say about burning to the disc, and it just crashes every time I click "Burn playlist to disc...". So yet another Apple product refuses to work with it.
On another note, even though it's only Apple software that seems to be having issues with it, does it matter? What I mean by that is, the drive works with Mac OS X because of an Extension, and the extension allows applications to use the drive. (The extension for this drive is also natively supported by OS X Tiger) Now, if something were wrong with the extension (one would assume this because of the issues with Apple applications) wouldn't it just not function at all? The only thing I can think of is that the new drive somehow corrupted the Apple software, while leaving ones like Toast Titanium alone.
Just to clarify (I'm still trying to organize my own thoughts right now):
    *_What Works_*
    *Plays CD-R's
    *Can write to CD-R's
*Every application (Apple or Third-Party) can manipulate a CD-R disc
*Can recognize and play retail CD's
*Recognizes DVD-R's in both USB and internal drive
*Third-Party applications (ex: Toast Titanium) can burn to DVD-R's in both internal and USB drives
*Apple System Profiler recognizes the drive, and it's capabilities. And knows that it is Apple Supported/Shipped
    _*What Does Not Work*_
*Official Apple software can not burn to DVD's of any kind
*The computer occasionally rejects DVD's (ejecting after trying to load for a while) regardless of the drive
*iTunes quits un-expectantly when told to burn to disc
*Disk Utility says that every DVD is "Read-Only" and has a capacity of 0
*iDVD thinks that the disc is either 32mb or 0mb (changes every time I open it)

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • IPod only recognized as digital camera / Apple Software Update unable to be uninstalled

This may sound like a common problem, but I've done a LOT of work trying to fix it based on online searches. With no avail, I think this problem can't be easily fixed.
As the question states, the initial problem is that my iPod Touch (1st gen I think, maybe 2nd gen, iOS 3.1.3) wasn't recognized by iTunes as an iPod, but only as a digital camera (Windows 7, 64-bit). At first I was content because I didn't have extra songs I wanted to add. But then when I cleared the RAM one day, the iPod restarted with the USB/Connect to iTunes screen. Finally, I had no choice but to try to fix the iTunes problem. So, as most people suggest first, I tried to update iTunes.
Unfortunately iTunes was unable to update. There was a rolling back error, that I traced to Apple Mobile Device Software by using the Command Prompt and logging the install log. Apparently, iTunes didn't have sufficient permission by Windows to delete the necessary files. I even uninstalled iTunes to try to reinstall it, but it didn't reinstall, leaving me with no iTunes at all.
Then I extracted AMDS installer from the iTunes installation package and logged that installation process to find errors. According to an online source, the driver was blank, so I first tried using pnputil.exe in cmd to remove the Apple driver package. This failed, so I manually went into C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository to find the driver to delete it so it could reinstall. Unfortunately, it still wouldn't install.
In addition, I changed the ownership of ProgramData, Program Files, and Program Files (x86) in the C:\ disk to Administrator instead of SYSTEM and gave full permission to myself (the administrator) and "TrustedInstaller." A risky move, I know, but I was desperate. I had hoped that this would give permission to iTunes to modify what it needed to modify, but this still didn't work.
Thus, I tried to remove all traces of Apple software that related to iTunes manually. This involved the Apple files in ProgramData, Program Files\Common Files, and Program Files (x86)\Common Files. Then I tried to uninstall the list of programs related to iTunes (Bonjour, QuickTime, etc). However, Apple Software Update refused to uninstall and gave an error "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program reuired for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I fear in my deletion of files, I might have deleted something necessary for this uninstall.
I downloaded multiple forced uninstallers, but none of them worked - the same message showed up constantly. I went into the registry key to see if I could manually uninstall Apple Software Update, but this didn't seem to work either. I was too afraid to delete anymore files...
So here I am again, having walked in a complete circle in this extremely complicated situation. The files I deleted in my first attempt at a solution ended up hindering a possible actual solution. Any ideas to uninstall Apple Software Update, or to solve iTunes rolling back error, or to remove the connect to iTunes screen from my iPod would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated. I can live without iTunes, but my iPod is very important to me. If anyone has a solution to remove the screen without connected to iTunes, or connecting to a different computer's iTunes, I would be willing to take that course of action too.
    Thanks!

You will see that the Df Raw support was provided in the latest version of LR 5.3.   Support for the D300s was introduced in LR 2.5. (the NEF files are different.)
Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can only be updated after the camera manufacturer has produced the camera and made it publicly available. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then that is your problem.

About a month ago I recreated my windows profile, since then getting any apple software to work has been impossible. Is there a cleaner for this stuff?

Yes, it makes this noise, but only on startup.  It is normal to hear this noise during startup.  My mac is an early 2011 model.

  • When I boot in safe or regular mode, I get this on my Macbook Pro with upgraded Mavrick System Unapproved caller. SecurityAgentmay only be invoked by Apple software.  I can't boot my computer.

Unapproved caller. SecurityAgentmay only be invoked by Apple software. I just upgraded to Maverick and now I can't boot in regular or safe mode on my Macbook Pro.

I suggest you call Apple Care. However, the following is the BEST I can remember what I did as intructed by Apple Tech Support. I have a Time Machine Backup external hard drive.
    Turn off computer
Turn on and @ first sign of life, press and hold the Option button
    Follow the directions:
    Click: Repair disk
    Click: Repair Disk permissions
Get out of the section then pick the reinstall
    Option reinstall
If that did not work: it did not for mine:
Do the same as above and click erase disk. If you have a Time Machine Back up, you can return you Mac back into working order w/your applications software, i.e. Word: mac 2008, Skype, etc.
Unplug you external hard drive to eliminate any possible confusion.
After an  erase disk when starting like above (hold option button down while booting) and doing a total install,
Plug in your external drive with you Time Machine backups.
Only check applications and only users. Uncheck other files… and computer …
    http://www.bing.com/search?q=macbook+migration&pc=MOZI&form=MOZSBR
After I did this, my computer went back to normal. Takes about a day. Good luck. It isn't easy and there are no short cuts I know of but better than having to find an Apple Store or shipping your Mac in for a repair.

  • I updated my ios and now only apple logo appears nothing else works

Recently I got a notification about software update and i used itunes to update my ios 5.0.1 to ios 6 but now only apple logo appaers and nothing else works please help!!!!

    Try resetting first.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, try restoring your iPhone to factory settings >  http://www.everythingicafe.com/how-to-restore-iphone-to-factory-settings-without -itunes/2011/12/13/
Be aware, resetting to factory settings deletes all user data.
Then try updating to iOS 6 again.

  • I just got an iPhone 4s and when I tried to sync it with iTunes it said to uninstall and download the 64bit version. I uninstalled all ove my apple software before I could get it to install at all. Still doesnt work. Doesnt even recognize my phone.

I just bought an iPhone 4s yesterday and it wouldn't connect to the iTunes 10.6.3 I had already on my laptop for my husbands 3gs and my brother in laws iPhone 4. Neither of them ever had a problem syncing with itunes. When I tried I was told to uninstall itunes and reinstall a 64bit version. Took several attempts but I finally got it. Then it said that I needed to upgrade my apple mobile device support and for me to uninstall itunes again and reinstall it. I have done all of this several times and still cannot get it to work right. I have uninstalled every Apple software listed on my computer and had to reinstall it all. Help!!!!!!!

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word  (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox?  I hope not!!

If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.

  • Only Apple Branded Hard Drives Work in My Mid-2009 MacBook Pro

My Mid-2009 MacBook Pro (actually, my wife's) experienced a hard-drive failure about a year ago.  This was a 500GB 7200RPM drive that came BTO from Apple.
It's easy enough to replace HD's, so, I did it myself with a Seagate 7200RPM 500GB drive, the same model as the one from Apple, but I got this one from Seagate, not from Apple, so it didn't have the Apple logo (and firmware?) on it.  The drive did not work.  I was able to format the drive using Disk Utility, but when I tried to install Snow Leopard on it, it would fail.  I placed the new drive in my other MBP (early 2008), and installed SL, no problems.  Booted to it just fine.
I put it back in the 2009 MBP, and it would not boot - it would show the flashing folder with a question mark.  I put the drive in a usb enclosure and the MBP booted from it just fine (well, a little slower because the usb speed, I presume).
I bought another Seagate and experienced the same problem.  I bought a Hitachi and experienced the same problem.  I took it to an authorized Apple repair facility who told me that the HD was bad (which was obviously false, since all 3 HD's I tried worked just fine in my other computer).
So, I took it into Apple and gave them the whole story and they ran overnight hardware diagnostics and were unable to find (or fix) a problem.
So, I played stupid and brought it back again, saying "uh, my hard drive broke, can you fix it?" hoping that they would try to replace the HD and fix the problem or at least diagnose it.
Well, they put an Apple branded HD back in, and it works just fine.
Seemingly, that would be problem solved, and life has been fine for the last year.  But, now we bought an OptiBay to ditch the DVD drive and place a 750GB (non-apple) drive in the optical bay.  To my surprise, the non-apple drive works, but, it is pretty slow (we put our iPhoto library on there, and it chokes very badly when you ask it to do anything, such as zoom on a picture, play a video, go to full screen, etc.  It takes about 30 to 45 seconds of SBOD to perform those tasks.
I am wondering if there was any way we could have damaged the SATA connector or driver?  Why would only Apple branded drives work in the main HD bay? I don't know if an Apple branded drive would preform better in the optical bay or not.

I recently saw a similar situation described in another forum and someone directed the OP to look for a jumper on the drive. I raised my eyebrows--that sounded like old PATA technology--but, sure enough, the OP found a jumper, changed it and everything worked. This apparently changed the timing on the drive to match Apple products. I'm leaving town and won't have much time to search myself, but try a forum search for "SATA jumper" and see if something rings a bell.
