Only available under linux?

Hello
I want to develop an application with J2ME CDC + Personal Profile + RMI OP. I was reading about this, and I understand that these libraries are only available under Linux. It isnt?
Ussually I use JBuilder 9 under windowsXP. Can I do this application with it?
What VM do you recommend for the PDA?
Thank you
best regards, Nico.

Yes I saw the wireless toolkit, but I read:
"The Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) Wireless Toolkit is a state-of-the-art toolbox for developing wireless applications that are based on J2ME's Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) and Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), and designed to run on cell phones, mainstream personal digital assistants, and other small mobile devices."
Then, it is based in CLDC. And I will need libraries that there are in CDC and in Personal Profile...
What can I do if I want to develop CDC applications under windows? I download the IBMs tool called Websphere Studio Device Developer. It has the CDC configuration but not the RMI Optionoal Package, i read that is possible to update it, but didn found the way.
best regards.Nico.

    Has anyone figured out the products necessary to do a fully

    Oracle's text book answer to Disaster recovery is a standby
    database. This database will not be available immediately but can
    be operational in about 15 minutes or less after the loss of the
    primary database. There is no additional software cost to
    implement a standby database.

  • My mac's software is only available under my profile on MacBook pro. How can other family members get to the optional SW logged in under their own profile

    Is there a way to share purchased SW under mote than one profile on the MacBook pro?

    If the software is in the HD>Applications folder it's available to everyone. If for some reason you put software into User>Applications folder it will be available only to that user.

    Best regards,
    newbieEverything should work, except for the target pack and the non-existent Linux Pegoda driver.1. The is no seperate Linux distribution. You just need a Linux distribution for Eclipse.JCOP Tools plugin should work under Linux, except for the target pack and the non-existent Pegoda driver for Linux.1. 2. Prior to JCOP Tools 3.1.2 the last time something was mentioned about Linux was in the release notes of 3.1.1b . In version 3.2.0 IBM added a linux_support page to the JCOP Tools user guide (see release notes and linux_support page below).
    3. There shouldn't be any problems with the generic simulation. The target pack runs only with Windows though.

    Overview
    The current JCOP Tools release now also offer a version for the popular Linux
    operating system. Both the Windows and Linux verson provide more or less the same
    functionality, and JCOP application development can thus fully succeed on Linux systems.
    Nevertheless, installation of the JCOP Tools differ between Windows and Linux
    where the Linux version does not provide a simple installer as in case of Windows.
    Additionally, the Linux version expects a properly setup Muscle PCSC installation
    as soon as you want to use them together with physical, real cards. As Muscle
    PCSC is still not shipped with most Linux distributions, you must download and
    install them separately from the JCOP Tools.

    Software Requirements
    Linux distribution
    The JCOP Tools simulation has been developed on a Fedora Core 6 system, but should also work in case of
    many other recent Linux distributions.
    Java Development Kit
    The JCOP Tools have been developed and tested with the Sun JDK 1.4.2_13-b06
    for Linux. Your success with other Development Kits may vary as there are
    partly subtle differences across the different devlopment kits.
    PCSC
    The JCOP Tools use PCSC to talk with real cards on Linux. Most distributions
    do not ship with Linux PCSC by default (Fedora Core 6 does), you must thus download it fromhttp://www.linuxnet.com
    and install it by yourself. If you are used to software installation under Linux,
    and are not afraid of compiling and installing software packages, this should
    not be a hard problem. You have to download both the base PCSC package
    (including PCSC daemon and client libraries) and separately the driver
    for the reader you want to use. The PCSC package contains a test program
    which should tell you whether your installation is set up correctly and
    communicating with a card works. The JCOP Tools have been reported to
    work together with Muscle PCSC version 1.3.1-7.
    JPCSC
    The JCOP Tools are shipped with JPCSC which you can also download athttp://www.linuxnet.com. JPCSC
    is a JNI library which offers Java applications the access to PC/SC functions
    by mapping their requests to an underlying native PC/SC implementation. The JCOP
    Tools - mostly written in Java - thus depend on JPCSC to communicate with real cards
    on Linux. JPCSC depends on a properly installed and setup PC/SC environment.
    Especially, the JAVA_LIBRARY_PATH should list the directories where the
    PC/SC client libraries and the native JPCSC library libjpcsc.so ( downloadable as binary from
    Windows Binary Download Here )
    are installed, the CLASSPATH variable should list th___
    Miscellaneous
    What should work
    As soon as you setup your system correctly, there should only be minor differences
    between using JCOP Tools on Windows or on Linux. Emulating a real JCOP,
    debugging, shell, cap-file conersion should all be possible as in case of Windows.
    What is missing
    No drivers or tools are currently available for using JCOP30's in contactless
    mode. If you need such support, please contact directly NXP
    at for further assistance.

  • ARIAL FONT IN REPORTS(WINDOWS), NOT SHOWN CORRECTLY UNDER LINUX

    Our Reports are developed under Windows (Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33 and Windows 2000/Windows XP) and generated under Linux (IAS 10.1.2.0.2 with Red Hat Advanced Server). The Report Output is a PDF, that will be downloaded by the user with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT. This works fine, but fonts are not shown correctly in the PDF, especially ARIAL, which is the font we use.
    I have run the Fontsolution Configuration Script from Metalink, but we still have a problem.
    When you look at the font.pdf, wich is the testreport from fontsolutions, some sizes and styles of Arial are printed correctly others not.
    Arial 8 is ok, but Arial 10 and Arial 12 are something like Times New Roman.
    Arial 12 Bolded is correct, but Arial 12 italic and Arial 12 bold italic are also not
    the Arial Font.
    How can we correct this problem?
    Regards
    Udo

    # <Face>.<Size>.<Style>.<Weight>.<Width>.<CharSet> = \
    # <Face>.<Size>.<Style>.<Weight>.<Width>.<CharSet>
    # The <Face> must be the name (string/identifier) of a font face. The
    # <Style>, <Weight>, <Width>, and <CharSet> may either be a numeric
    # value or a predefined identifier/string. For example, both US7ASCII
    # and 1 are valid <CharSet> values, and refer to the same character set.
    # The <Size> dimension must be an explicit size, in points.
    # The following is a list of recognized names and their numeric
    # equivalents:

    # Styles may be combined; you can use plus ("+") to delimit parts of a
    # style. For example,
    # Arial..Italic+Overstrike = Helvetica.12.Italic.Bold
    # are equivalent, and either one will map any Arial that has both Italic
    # and Overstrike styles to a 12-point, bold, italic Helvetica font.
    # All strings are case-insensitive in mapping. Font faces are likely to
    # be case-sensitive on lookup, depending on the platform and surface, so
    # care should be taken with names used on the right-hand side; but they
    # will be mapped case-insensitively.
    # See your platform documentation for a list of all supported character
    # sets, and available fonts.

    If you want to make platform independent use of fonts, you have to use the family, such as sans serif.
    Arial is owned by monotype (http://monotype.com/). You have to contact them if you wish to redistribute it with your application. They also might have a suitable version that renders nicely under linux.

  • Certain Java methods only available on Tomcat, when logged in as a user

    Certain java methods are only available in a Tomcat webapp, when the Tomcat server is started in a terminal window, while the user is directly logged into the system
    When one of those methods are called from a command line app, for a split second an app pops up in the dock, even though no UI-method is called directly.
    For example include a method like javax.imageio.ImageIO.createImageInputStream into a servlet inside a tomcat webapp and start tomcat through a ssh-connection.
    The servlet will crash with following exception:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class sun.java2d.Disposer
    javax.imageio.stream.FileImageInputStream.<init>(FileImageInputStream.java:82)
    javax.imageio.stream.FileImageInputStream.<init>(FileImageInputStream.java:57)
    com.sun.imageio.spi.FileImageInputStreamSpi.createInputStreamInstance(FileImage InputStreamSpi.java:37)
    javax.imageio.ImageIO.createImageInputStream(ImageIO.java:331)
    com.sage.utility.ImageUtil.getFormatName(ImageUtil.java:76)
    When Tomcat is started from a normal terminal window, while being logged into Mac OS, the very same method works without a problem.
    It looks like the problem only exists on Mac OS X... on Linux it runs without a problem under the same configurations
    I just noticed, that when the user logs out, the server will remain active, but another exception is raised:
    Can't connect to window server - not enough permissions.
    It looks like the reason for this is a crooked implementation of the java api by apple.
    Since it doesn't really work for us, doing all out administration though screen sharing, I would love to hear, that there is a way around this.

    After I filed a bug-report an Apple engineer contacted me, and asked me to try running java in headless mode: http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/Desktop/headless/
    That solved the problem!

  • How can I install InDesign under Linux?

    Hello,
    Because Microsoft stopped service for Windows XP, I changed the OS to Linux (currently Ubuntu to ease the change). A lot of software have alternatives under Linux, but I want to work with InDesign (currently CS6) furthermore. Is there a special (new) software version available directly from Adobe (I found only Win and Mac versions). Or is a script for Wine (or other emulator software) available? Thanks for any help or comment.
    Micha

    adobe makes no linux version of any of its software.  you'll need to use a front-end like wine, WineHQ - Adobe InDesign

  • Is Translation Hub available on Linux ? [SOLVED]

    We are using iDS 10gR2 and iAS 10gR2 on Linux. Is Translation Hub available in iDS 10gR2 on Linux? or is it only available for Windows? I can not find it under my iDS installation? I also can not find the Translation Hub documentation under iDS documents? Searched OTN & Metalink and only documents I found are Oracle Notes and a 30page pdf file, dated 2002 for 9i version. Please advise.
    thank you

    ooops - found the Oracle note #284035.1 and it clearly states that Translation Hub is not available on unix. Sounds like we need to purchase another copy of iDS 10gR2 for windows if we want to use the Translation Hub? Maybe it is time to call OPN to check what we gonna do with this constraint.

  • Resin version under Linux?

    How can you find out the version of Resin you're running under RH Linux, assuming you didn't install it yourself?
    Ditto with MySQL Server.

    Hi Guillaume,
    As you've noticed, _CVI_ is not defined when you compile under Linux.
    You're right, there is very little documentation on which of the CVI predefined macros are available in Linux. We'll be sure to add this to the documentation. In the meantime, these are the macros defined by cvicc, to the best of my knowledge:
    _NI_unix_ = 1
    _NI_linux_ = 1
    _CVI_DEBUG_ = 1 (debug builds only)
    NDEBUG = 1 (release builds only)
    _CVI_C99_EXTENSIONS_ = 0 or 1 (depending on project option)
    _TARGET_FILE_VERSION_ = a.b.c.d
    _TARGET_PRODUCT_VERSION_ = a.b.c.d

  • Running database control of a remote 10g database under linux

    Hi,
    I have a question. I installed oracle 10g on my windows PC as well as on a remote server which is on linux. For both the databases, I can run DatabaseControl by entering a similar kind of URL in my browser (just server name is different, all other parts of URL are same).
    Now, when I tried to run the DatabaseControl for some other oracle 10g servers (also under linux), I am getting the error "The page cannot be displayed". This means that the services to run database control are not available on the remote server. Can someone please tell me what setups and services are required on those servers so that I can run their DatabaseControl from my PC's browser. (Please give me the step-by-step instructions of what needs to be done on remote
    servers) - Thanks.

    But that does not explain why emctl does not exist. Existence of emctl file is not dependent on whether DB Control is created on or not.
    Whether you ticked using DB Control or not, the Server is installed with Enterprise Manager by default. You do not need to run OUI to create the Database Control (Db Console). You only need to run emca to create the dbconsole.
    But the problem here is that they cannot see emctl. Which brings me to the question of whether they are actually on the right ORACLE_HOME or box
    If the Database was installed in the Linux box and the client on the PC, the emctl should be on the Linux box and not on the PC. If you have more than one ORACLE_HOME, then you need to ensure you are on the correct ORACLE_HOME

  • Problems with dbx under linux

    Hi everybody,
    I'm using Oracle Solaris Studio 12.2 under Linux, and i'm trying to debug a Fortran application with dbx.
    When I use it to step through the code, there always pops up a messagebox that says
    dbx: internal error: cannot convert 'AGGREGATE' to 'ARRAY' ...
    dbx: internal error: cannot convert 'AGGREGATE' to 'ARRAY' ...
    dbx: internal error: cannot convert 'AGGREGATE' to 'ARRAY' ...
    dbx: internal error: cannot convert 'AGGREGATE' to 'ARRAY' ...
    too many errors
    after a random number of steps (perhaps after about 10 steps). Then, the execution stops, and I'm forced to restart the process, with a breakpoint somewhere further down the code.
    Does anybody know what I could do to prevent that from happening?
    Thanks in advance,
    Christoph

    Hi Isaac,
    thanks for your reply. I'm using the debugging from the studio.
    Unfortunately, the code I'm working on is a CFD program of some 100.000 lines, and I think I'd have to post the whole thing. I've been trying to reproduce the problem with a model program, but to no avail: dbx/SunStudio works like a charm with every program I write myself.
    It is definitely a problem with evaluating local variables: If I watch a debugging tab different from "variables", it doesn't crash; neither does it while stepping through the main program. It only crashes somewhere deep in some modules, where pointers on big allocated arrays are passed around in the seventh or so stack level. Anyway, it seems to be more a problem with the code than with a particular debugger: I've tried gdb, and it shows similar problems.
    Regards,
    Christoph

  • Loss of keyboard focus in Java appl running under linux

    I have a small sample program that replicates my problem. When this program is run a window is created. If you select File->New another instance of the program window is created. Now if you try to go back and bring to front the first window, keyboard focus is not
    transferred when run under linux. You can only type in the second window. The expected behavior does happen in Windows.

              SwingWindow.createAndShowGUI();
         fileMenu.add(newItem);
            menuBar.add(fileMenu);
            setJMenuBar(menuBar);
            setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE);
         JTextField text = new JTextField(200);
         getContentPane().add(text);
         pack();
         setSize(700, 275);
        public static void createAndShowGUI() {
            JFrame frame = new SwingWindow();
            frame.setVisible(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                public void run() {
                    createAndShowGUI();
    }

    You can implement the FocusListener interface. When
    the first JFrame gains focus, call
    text.requestFocusInWindow(). I hope this helps.The call requestFocusInWindow is not helping, perhaps even making it worse.
    The problem seems to be that I am in the situation where the call
    KeyboardFocusManager.getCurrentKeyboardFocusManager().getPermanentFocusOwner()
    is returning the expected Component. The problem is that the KeyListener class that is registered with the Component is not being called when a key is being pressed.
    The issue is that I have a component that has the keyboard focus, but the KeyListener class
    is not responding.
    This seems to be a linux only problem which makes it only mysterious.

  • Cannot install JMF under Linux Mandrake 10

    I simply cannot install JMF under the Mandrake 10 Official Linux distribution. I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin file and tried to execute it as root. It unzipped some files then showed me an error message about AWT and GTK+. I found a hack consisting of modifying the .bin file to have the PATH variable point to SUN JDK, the error does not show up, but the installation still does not work. In fact, the installation works, but the Diagnostics applet keeps telling me than class files are not present. My Mozilla 1.6 Java plugin is working and displaying the applet. My JMF lib directory does not contain sound.jar, such jmf.jar. I set the CLASSPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH according to the readme.html file. I would like to know if it is a compatibility problem with Mandrake 10, the 2.6 kernel or if JMF just DO NO work under Linux. In the latter case, JMF is a violation to the Java portability philosophy and I would never use it on my own initiative, just if I were asked to.
    After the files are unzipped, I have the following warning and error messages.
    Warning:
    Name: HorScrollBar
    Class: XmScrollBar
    The specified scrollbar value is greater than the maximum
    scrollbar value minus the scrollbar slider size.

    Done.
    Even if I do not have a working video capture card (I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 but it is not working under 2.6 kernel), JMF should work because some people do not have a video capture card. I also tried with the cross-platform ZIP file, but this one does not contain sound.jar either and the Diagnostics applet keeps complaining about missing class files. I tried to search on the Web for solutions to this problem or for a way to change the CLASSPATH used by the Mozilla Java plug-in (if it uses a different CLASSPATH than the one from the environment variable), but nothing, nothing. Is there a distribution from which JMF would work better than Mandrake 10? Or can JMF work only under Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris? I also tried Blackdown, but a README file directed me to the Sun's page, nothing to download here about JMF.

    well, your not the only one.
    I have it working in Debian, and JDS.(JMF is setup automatically in JDS).(2.6.6 kernel)
    I looked at the installation structure of JDS, and was able to duplicate what they did for Debian.
    Maybe it will work for Mandrake two??
    ok, all you have to do is copy or create soft links from your Mozilla directory, just like you did with the java plugin, and link to all the *.so files in JMF-2.1.1e/lib directory.
    Should work.
    I also read that not haveing the native files only matters if you are doing Capture. not play.
    to get your ATI All-in-Wonder 128 to work, make sure you install the correct driver, and have it working under linux, then try it in JMSTUDIO
