Only certain .mov files imported from iphoto into imovie

I've been a MacBook owner for one week. When I first transferred over my photos into iPhoto, most of the .mov movie files were imported into iMovie. The problem is that the remaining movie files still in iPhoto were taken with the same digital camera and are .mov files, but I can't get them to import into iMovie!?!? There are about 5 movies still hanging out in iPhoto that I desperately want to get into iMovie...can anybody offer me any advice?
Thanks for your time.
Melissa

MOV file are containers. If the compression formats contained in the the MOV are not "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not import them. Some digital cameras use different compression formats for different video clip modes. Your best approach at this point is to open the files that will not import to iMovie '08 in the QT Player and check their audio and video compression formats in the "Inspector" window. (And if you compare them with the files that did import, you may get an idea as to what the specific problem may be.) For instance, an MPEG4/AAC file would normally import (as long as the MOV container does not contain a "Tween" track) while an MPEG4/µ-Law 2:1 file will not because the µ-Law audio is not editable.

  • Photos imported from iPhoto to iMovie turn a bright red hue.

When I attempt to import photos directly from iPhoto into iMovie, both with and without the Ken Burns effect, the photos all wind up washed out and tinted red. I've looked for some sort of setting I could change to avoid this, but haven't been able to find it, and I've installed all the most recent updates. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Better still, does anyone know how to fix it?

    Thanks for your interest.
I had scanned in monstrous TIFF images -- these were the ones that would turn to red tint when I applied Ken Burns effect.
I created an action in Photoshop to flatten layers and save to JPEG, then ran an automated batch on all the TIFF images to create JPEGs.
I imported the JPEGs into the iPhoto library, then into my old iMovie. These new JPEGs don't turn red with the KB effect. I then emptied the iMovie trash to reduce the size of the movie, and then could no longer apply the KB effect to any of the clips in the timeline (only on clips not yet moved into the timeline). I tried restarting iMovie, but that did not help.
So I created a new movie from scratch and that seems to be working just fine. I feel like iMovie is such a waste of my time. I spent about 10 hours on my movie up to this point where I can be productive.
I notice some of the images have scratches I'd like to fix in Photoshop. What's the recommended way to do that? Can I keep effects or transitions and just re-apply them to an edited photo?

  • How do I move about 70 little videos from iPhoto into iMovie so I can edit them and add music.  I don't have iDVD.

I need help with a problem!  Last year I bought a new camcorder and my first iMac (OSX).  My first movie was in New York City, so it's very special to me.
When I got home, I made a short New York City movie in iMovies but somehow I have deleted it all in iMovies.  When I look in iPhotos, all the individual clips are there as short little movies (there are about 80 of them, all lasting a few seconds).  Is there any way I can move those individual clips back into iMovie and have it back to where I started so that I can replace what I lost and I also to do some additional editing.  Any help would be appreciated.

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Importing from iPhoto into Elements 11 Organizer

When I click Import in Elements 11 Organizer and choose the iPhoto option I do not get the "Import from iPhoto" dialog box that allows you choices of what you would like to import. Instead, the program immediately begins importing all the photos that I have in iPhoto.  How do I get the dialog box to come up so I can make choices of what I would like to import?

You are right, that is how it works.  However, I am looking at a figure on page 36 of the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" training workbook that shows an iPhoto dialog box where you can make choices.  Wonder where that figure came from.  After seeing it, I thought maybe I had missed making a preference setting somewhere along the line.  Thanks for your response.

  • Import Photots from Iphoto into iMovie in the same order

    i,
I have an album in iPhoto, and I want to import the pictures into iMovie. When they are imported I want them to be in the same orders as they are in iPhoto.
Can you tell me how to accomplish this please.
    Thanx

Open the photo Browser in iMovie. Find your Album. Drag the icon for your Album into the iMovie Project.

  • Import from iPhoto to iMovie

Imported about 900 pictures from iPhoto to iMovie. Maybe 3 or 4 meg at largest for each picture. Took a very long time to import into iMovie. Like nearly 30 minutes. As fast as the pictures came into iPhoto, I'd think iMovie should be as fast. Is this standard for iMovie regarding speed of import?

O.K, I'll get them to move your question to the correct place.

  • Loss of quality of photos when importing from iphoto to imovie

A question... When I import high resolution photos from iphoto and look at the preview on imovie HD, the quality is the same great quality that I can see on iphoto. Once I import the photo clip onto imovie, however, the quality is very poor on the imovie playback. This drop in quality is regardless of whether Ken Burns effect is used or not.
I already checked the quality on imovie preferences and it is already selected as the highest quality (default setting)
Any clues as to why the photo image quality should drop to such a poor image when importing a photo from iphoto to imovie?

    Hi L
There are a great difference on photos shown on a Mac with eg. iPhoto or
PhotoShop and what's going to video.
    a. Different resolution. Just the number of lines as the selected type of project
eg: PAL 4x3 = 625 lines ≈ same in pixles (But square not elongated or visa versa)
    b. iMovie "Viewer" is just an approximation. I connected my miniDV Camera
to FW and analog to a TV. Select in pref - Play back via Camera. Now I see
the final quality on my TV. Usally much better.

  • Import from iPhoto to iMovie comes in sideways - how to rotate?

When importing video clips shot on my iPhone 4 from iPhoto to iMovie, they come in sideways and I can't figure out how to rotate them. They are correct in iPhoto, iMovie flips them 90 degrees.

This is in the previous HD version of iMovie. I just tried it and they come in okay in the new iMovie.

  • .mov files from iPhoto into iMovie... How?

I have some video files (.mov) that I'd like to keep in iPhoto and also sync into my iPhone, but I'm not quite sure what the sequence should be.
I can get the .mov files into iPhoto, no problem, but can't figure out how to sync them into my iPhone.  I have "Sync videos" checked off in iTunes, but they stil w'ont transfer into iPhone.
How should I be doing this?

AFAIK there is no way to share movies from iPhoto.

  • Can't get movies/pics from iPhoto into iMovie

Hello, I have read a lot of other threads but haven't yet found this answer. I am new to Mac as of 1/09 and just started using iMovie one year later (this month). I go back and forth between a Sony Cyber-shot DCS-W230 and a Sanyo VPC-TH1. Both do stills as well as video. I have a lot both on iPhoto as well as Picasa from the past year. Only one movie actually went into my iMovie library and a few pics. Can anyone tell me why this is? I haven't (knowingly) changed any settings. I can view them in (iPhoto and Picasa) including watching the movies. Why won't they import into iMovie? I tried using Streamline but it's very confusing and the one 25 minute movie I got to convert took hours and didn't even line up with the audio so that was a waste. If they weren't compatible with iMac wouldn't it just not work at all instead of some? I've spent hours experimenting and reading instructions, forums, I've called Apple support, etc. and I'm so frustrated because I still don't have an answer. If someone could help me resolve this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Importing my own little movies from my SD550, I used to see them in .MOV format. Now I see them as .AVI files and QuickTime cannot open them anymore. As a matter of fact, *nothing* can open these files anymore, and I have tried Flip4Mac, DivXPlayer,MoviePod, iMovieHD and Windows Media for Mac. Guess what: the only way I can open them is with iMovie 7.0.1.
So I suspect something in the Mac core is transforming my imports into files that are difficult to read. QuickTime perhaps?

  • Raw files transferring from iPhoto into Lightroom as JPEGs

I know this makes me sound like a newbie but in lightroom 3 the raw files were listes as .crw when I imported them from iphoto but in lightroom 4.1 they are showing up as .jpg.  Am I doing something wrong? Are these actually RAW files I am working with or is lightroom converting them before I get a chance to work with them.

    Hi rtdude13
Lightroom's not converting them, but it sounds like you may be exporting JPEGs from iPhoto instead of the original raw files.  Would you like to tell us a little more about your workflow so we can hunt down the problem?

  • Only some .MOV files import?

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a bit of trouble. I have installed Quicktime to get the .MOV files to import - and it reads them, but only SOME of them. Which is weird. There are 24 .MOV files in total - and 9 of them are showing as audio files only.
    Any ideas?
I have cleaned my temporary folders. Closed and re-opened the project. Started a new project. Moved the .MOV files to different locations. Uninstalled then reinstalled Quicktime and the same thing each time?
It's always the same files that show up as audio only. Really weird.
    Can anyone advise please?
    Best wishes,
    Nathan

  • Importing from iPhoto into Photoshop CS5

I wish to create a collage image made up of photos that requires 300 dpi resolution for printing. The photos come from my digital camera via iPhoto. When I open them up in Photoshop and go to Image>Image size.. the photo shows as having only 72 dpi resolution. How can I open photos from iPhoto and retain the higher resolution coming from the camera?

Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • Cannot import pictures from iPhoto into iMovie!

When I try to upload my JPEG pictures from iPhoto, I can successfully drag them into the storyboard, but they all show up as the same picture (the picture right before all of them). When I try to drag them into the workspace below the storyboard, I see the number of them (doesn't matter how many) in a red circle, not allowing me to drag them over from the browser.
I don't know what I am doing wrong. Can anyone help out with this?

Open the photo Browser in iMovie. Find your Album. Drag the icon for your Album into the iMovie Project.
