Only desktop appears

Time Machine is backing up properly on my PowerBook, but when I check it only the desktop appears. By looking into the files I can tell that the whole external hard drive is being backed up, but there's no way to actually use it if needed. Also, Spotlight doesn't search for anything backed up in Time Machine.
How can I see the rest of my files?

You shouldn't have to start Time Machine from the folder you want to use.
Basically, if you start Time Machine from an unknown application....let's say Firefox, TM will automatically bring up a Finder window of the Desktop.
Once in TM, you should be able to use that Finder window just as if you were using in outside of TM. You can click on the sidebar links to get to other folders, drives, etc.

Mac Pro 2006 tower, not showing gray startup screen - "asleep" till desktop appears

Mac Pro 1,1 Dual-Core Intel Xenon, 2.66 GHz, 5GB ram, 2 internal HDs of 500GB and 1T. OS 10.6.8
I suddenly "lost" the normal gray startup screen on my Mac a few months back. I get just a black monitor screen until the desktop appears. I'm having other issues too and want to run disk utility off an external HD to fix internal HD permissions. But when I hold the option key and start, I can't select the external as a startup disk without a startup screen. Any ideas?
I'm wondering if adding the second internal HD may be the cause of this and other apparent memory issues (slower performance, web pages slow or not loading in all browsers, Finder folders only opening after a "wakeup" wait). They seemed to happen around that time, though I can't say I notice an immediate change. Could simply adding more HD real estate be the issue? Thoughts on that too?
I've tried the using Disk Utility before but can't recall if I ever got it to work on the 1T HD due to that lack of a startup screen. I've also played with plug-ins/extensions in browsers and can't say they're to blame.

We have a 2.66 MacPro 1,1 still running fine at present, the original graphics card was replaced by Apple as part of a known issue. This was over 4 years ago, close to the end of the cutoff period for the known issue IIRC.
I'd suggest you contact Apple & see if you can sweet talk them into doing something about the graphics card, even if it's just arranging a better price on a replacement. I recollect at the time of the exchange Apple was switching cards based on the installed OS. Having 10.6 installed meant we got a NVIDIA 8800GT, earlier OS's meant other cards were offered instead. I think it came with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (but I could be wrong - ask me to dig out details if you want to know for sure).
P.S.
Assuming the disk doesn't contain your user data, shutdown & remove your second HD to see if it runs any better, I find that the OS will wait for what feels like a lifetime when requesting data from a disk that has gone to sleep. SSD's change your perception, booting from one will freshen up the Mac, but won't fix the no graphics at boot issue, sorry.

Flush DNS Setting in Windows

You haven't mentioned which version of PSE. If it is PSE 13, that requires a minimum of windows 7.

Restoring the iPod will do nothing to his iPhone.
When you restore it wipes the iPod clean no matter what computer you use.
The only plus to doing it form your home computer is if you have a backup stored there, then you can restore from the backup once it's done wiping.
If you are away form your home computer, go ahead and use the computer you have to restore it, then when you get home, you can restore form any backup you may find. You can use this to help you do that when you get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation. (Photostream does not currently share video)
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.

On wake up the wrong desktop appears with no desktop icons.

Upon waking up computer, a different desktop appears with no icons. I have to shut it down hard and reboot. Doestn't happen all the time but most times it does. Any suggestions on to resolve.

Hi, I had a similar "intermittent" problem. Desktop picture was correct, but no desktop icons after waking up. I found by powering off/on the monitor, seemed to refresh the display and show the icons. However the problem no longer exists, but I haven't changed any settings. I know this probably doesn't help that much, but it may prevent you having to shut down and reboot. Alan.

Did you export the master or version? Master will be unedited...
File > Export > Version

Anyone else notice 'purchase only" titles appearing on tv?

I have noticed a strange behavior that only has appeared on my tv "Rented Movies" page...
As it normally does, tv lists eight movie covers along the bottom of the screen as, "Viewers like you also rented." The odd thing is that on my "Rented Movies" page, five of the eight are not rental movies -- they are 'purchase only' in the iTunes store. If I select one of them I get the error, "The item you've requested is not available."
Anyone else seen this (possible bug)?

Help! Installed CS4 student edition, but only Illustrator appeared!

Hi! I recently installed the CS4 student edition, but only Illustrator appears in 'Applications.' A lot of the files associated with Photoshop and In Design are on the computer, but not the programs themselves. I wonder if this has to do with the fact I downloaded trial versions of Photoshop and In Design, but deleted them when I was ready to install CS4. They are no longer in trash.

If you deleted them by simply dragging them to the trash, then yes, that
would explain it. Those application need to be uninstalled, not trashed.

IMac monitor desktop appears to be larger than the screen

Went out to walk the dog and when i came back in the iMac monitor desktop appears to be larger than the screen size have tried to readjust in the display settings but nothing there helps.

Csound1 What Ive been trying to explain is that I have been running bootcamp, I open the app where the first screen is the introduction, i hit continue, the first time I select "download the latest windows support software fromm Apple" then I return and instead select "Install Windows 7." Then hit continue. The third screen is where I "Create a Partition for Windows" I set Windows to 80 gigs then hit INSTALL. As stated before Bootcamp cannot find the install drivers saying "The installer disc could not be found." My windows software is on a USB drive not a disc, I tried using a virtual disc reader to make it appear that the windows software was running on a disc, still no luck. What I would like to know is how to install windows on bootcamp.

When I use my keyboard only symbols appear and this is in any program. It's only one year old.

It's possible that one or more of the modifier keys on your keyboard is stuck, or that you have an incorrect keyboard selected in your preferences. Let's try a few things.
If you open System Preferences (under the Apple menu) and select Language & Text (I am assuming you are using OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, by the way) then select the Input Sources tab make sure the Keyboard & Character Viewer checkbox is checked on the left. Once it is you will have an icon in your menu bar that looks like a square with a bunch of dots and a star in it. From that menu select Show Keyboard Viewer. This will show on your screen the keyboard you are using. Do any of the modifier keys (shift, command, option, etc) show up dark as if they are depressed?
This will also show the name of the keyboard you are using (at the top of the virtual keyboard) What is it?
