Only first instance of show/hide on mouse rollover works in exported pdf, whereas all work in swf preview.

I am trying to have all of the figures in a interactive pdf book show an expanded version when the mouse rollovers them and hides when the cursor rolls off. Now only the first one in the chapter file works in the pdf, but all work properly in the swf preview. None of the buttons overlap. Changing the order of the buttons just changes which one works. The cursor changes into a hand when the mouse rollovers any of the trigger buttons, indicating that they all are being recognized as triggers.
I am using InDesign CC 2014, Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.09, and Windows 7 Enterprise.

Somehow the interactive pdf generated by InDesign loses every name of the objects upon which triggers are supposed to act except for the first trigger. I was able to use Acrobat Pro to look at each trigger and assign the correct object to show upon mouseover and hide upon mouseoff. This works fine now, but it adds substantial amount of work because if I make any change to the InDesign file, I have to modify every trigger in the pdf file again.
One would hope that Adobe would address this bug in the Interactive PDF export.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hide all instances of text fields, instead of only first instance?

Hi All, Been scouring looking for an answer to this, and tried several things that I haven't been able to make work for me.
I'm creating a quote form in LC Designer.
I've got buttons to add or remove instances of a subform. The subform contains 5 fields. I need to add a checkbox that will hide only 2 of the fields within the subform when checked, and when unchecked, show them again. I am able to make this work, but only for the first instance (instance 0?). How can I make this work so it hides these fields from each of the visible instances?

For anyone that is feeling abitous, what I really wanted to do seems impossible, so I'm going with the above as a simpler workaround. What I really want to do is have a check box that when clicked, will hide the quotation form, and make the purchase order visible, carrying over any field data into a new table on the Purchase order form from the quote form. I understand that I need to create an XML schema to accomplish this, but can't figure out for the life of me how to actually create the schema. I can only find info on how to bind the data source once it's been created.

The first question is fairly easy, you need do exactly what you were doing but for all the rows, so;

This relies on having two top level subforms, one for Sales_Quotation and one for Purchase_Order, when you click the checkbox the name of the top element in your data connection is updated, the form is remerged and rendered with the top level subform that matches the new name. Look in the hierarchy tab and you will see what I mean by top level subform. Any elements that have the same binding under the Sales_Quotation and Purchase_Order subforms will bind correctly. You wont need an XML Schema.
The fiddly bit is that in Designer you can only edit the first top level subform in the form, the second one wont show up at all at design time. However, the approach was discribed in this blog http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2011/02/multiple-top-level-subforms.html and John has a macro to move the first subform become the last. I've already run the first macro, NewTopSubform, so you just need the RotateSubforms macro. Were you perhaps using a mix of "managed" photos (copied into your iPhoto library) and "referenced" photos (kept only external to your library)? Only "managed" are eligible to be in iClout Photo Library.

Did you add them to your iPhoto library (using iPhoto) or your Photos library (using the new Photos application)? If with the Photos app, did you have the "Copy items to the Photos library" option checked in Photos > Preferences > General?

Master Page page number showing up in a different location in exported PDF

Hi everyone,
I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what InDesign is thinking, but I can't seem to find a solution.
I have an eight-page document with facing master pages. I put a page number on the left page and the right page of the spread in the footer area. When I export the document to PDF, one of the page numbers "moves" from where I placed it up and to the left, near the middle of the spread.
This is driving me nuts. I have tried to use different export settings. I have tried re-building the master page and creating new text frames with the page numbers. The page number still moves. And it is only Page 3. The rest of the page numbers are in the correct locations.

ID embeds fonts automatically during export as long as they are not restricted. There's no way to turn it off, so if the font is not embedding it is because it is restricted and cannot be embedded without viloating the font license, which ID will not do.

[CS3 AS] Change text but only first instance

Hey there. So I'm trying to do a find / replace of a particular text string that I know appears multiple times within the document. Each instance of the string needs to be replaced by a slightly different string. The string being replaced is "Page #" and needs to be replaced by, for example, "Page 4" on first reference then "Page 6" on next reference.
So, I was trying to figure out a way to replace only the first reference and then iterate the same replacement command. Or if there's a more elegant solution like somehow being able to pass an array of replacements, that would be awesome.

Sure. This is what it looks like in Javascript.
I use a GREP find to locate all number signs that are preceded with "Page " -- in this particular case, you want to find "Page #" but only change the hash mark. (And I missed a perfectly good opportunity to call it by its proper name "octothorp" ...)
The number of found occurrences must exactly match the length of the Replacement list, otherwise you get the wrong numbers at the wrong places -- therefore I added a check before continuing.
Notice I do the actual changing of # to number in reverse order -- this will always work correctly if you are replacing a 'contents' type of thing. The 'logical' way around, from front-to-end, messes up the found items list, because this points to locations inside the text, and if you insert two characters where there was one when it searched, the locations of all next items are off by one -- and so on.
Javascript requires one more thing: the text that is replaced, list[f].contents, is of a type "String", and it does not accept a number, which is what the replacements array contains. Hence the explicit conversion to "String" -- it might not be necessary in AS.
You can translate this to AS, and you can also simply use this Javascript (JS scripts work the same on both Windows and Mac ID). Fill the replacements array with the numbers you have and run the script. If you forgot or added a number, the script will notice this and exit; if you inserted a wrong number it'll never know ... so do check before and after running either Javascript or Applescript!

Only a few songs show up in a playlist on my iPhone, even though all of the songs in the playlist are on my phone. How do I fix this?

I uploaded a playlist onto my iPhone. After going into Music, and into the specific playlist, only one song showed up in the playlist. After that, I decided to search my phone to see if any of the other songs had made it on there. All of the songs that were supposed to be on my playlist made it onto my phone. Why are they not showing up in my playlist if they are on the phone? Please help me!

Are you sure you have selected the PL? I too have had problems and then finally fiogured out which path to select to see the tunes. For some reason the PL got moved to a deeper level.

Will a wireless Mouse/Presenter work with SWF/CP output?

I see on the market lots of wireless presenters. Some boast
multi-functionality, where they become effectively a wireless
mouse. Will these work within a SWF, so that you can navigate a
tutorial that is nothing more than a glorified PPT show?
It's not a PPT show cuz it's a little more involved than what
PPT does effectively, but the keyboard is not required to navigate
this thing.
I'm assuming that if a presenter boasts 'internet browsing'
capability, then your SWF should be able to be navigated fine.

I would reccomend a presenter with a "joystick" type control.
The trackball type are a pain, and usually get gummed up like the
old ps2 mice.

Hide text in certain textframes when exporting PDF

I have a couple of textframes/anchored objects that contain text used for
generating the TOC and other tasks.
At the end of my script, I export a PDF. Is it possible to hide these textframes during the export so that they won't be included in the pdf (perhaps there is a style)?

Set then to nonprinting in the attributes panel.

Show-Hide Navigation with sub-nav

I'm trying to create a navigation that will show/hide on
mouse on/off. Now, I've managed to get the first level to work, but
struggling with the sub-nav.
I have an MC (that contains the animation) that uses hitTest
for the show/hide which allows the buttons inside the mc to work.
I've tried a few ways to get the Sub-Nav to work but banging
my head against a brick wall... can anyone help or point me in the

EmployeeDetailsVO extension stops Show/Hide from working on EmployeeViewsPG

Hi,
I am on 12.0.6. I have just extended EmployeeDetailsVO to add an extra criteria to the where clause to stop records older than the 1-SEP-2008 from being displayed. It worked successfully and the rows returned on the page EmployeeViewsPG (Nav: Employee Self Service -> Employment Information) reflect the change.
However the Show/Hide button has stopped working. When I click show it does nothing.
I'm not sure why extending the VO would stop this from working. Any suggestions?

If the sededVO has rowImpl and your adding new columns in the VO query then you need to generate VORowImpl java.
However, You need to restrict to the view query by date '1-SEP-2008'
Then there is no need to extend the VO, extend the controller of the page EmployeeViewsPG.
Intiate the VO by OAViewObject vo = am.findViewObject ("FFFFF");
and then add the where clause.
e.g.
OAViewObject vo = am.findViewObject ("FFFFF");
If (vo != null)
vo.setwherclause(null);
vo.setwhereclause(" Date = '1-SEP-2008'");
vo.executeQuery();

Why do show/hide buttons show when PDF is opened?

I've created an interactive PDF with a series of show/hide buttons with rollover actions. When I export and open the PDF, some of the target buttons show up. If I mouseover, they correct themselves and go to their correct hidden state until I mouseover. Is this a bug and is there any way to keep them hidden from the start? Note that the target buttons overlap some, and I'm wondering if that is part of the problem so I'll test that, although not having them overlap isn't a viable solution.

Thanks for the response. Hidden until triggered was checked. I rebuilt the buttons and they seem to work fine now. It seems like InDesign is very finicky about the order of operations.

Can't get mouse to work with mac mini

Yes, I replaced the batteries.
Not sure what's going on. I booted the Mac Mini and the message I'm getting is "Searching for mice -0 found" then it will attempt to search again...nothing. I've attempted keyboard commands, but I'm unable to close out the window that asks me to connect to a network. Any guidance would be great. Thanks!

First try and see if the mouse is working. Look in System Preferences > Bluetooth and see if the mouse shows as connected or not. If it does and you are still getting the message, select the mouse then click on Advanced and UNcheck "Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup is no mouse or trackpad is detected."
If the mouse is NOT connected then try creating a clean Bluetooth environment by disabling any and all Bluetooth emmiters whithin 30 or 40 feet such as iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, iPads); other Blutooth keyboards, mice, trackpads; other computers, etc.
Sometimes cycling Blutooth of then on again can help (which is why I always keep a wired mouse and keyboard around). If the mouse was previously paired with the computer, and you have a wired mouse handy, in System Preferences > Bluetooth select the icon for the mouse then Control+Click and select "Remove" from the contextual menu then retry pairing.
The good news is once you get past this glitch, the next time you reboot pairing should go transparently.

Interactive buttons on master pages only appearing on first instance in document [CS6]

I have a document being created for on-screen use that has next and previous buttons in the design. These buttons are on the master page with the 'On Click go to next/previous page' behaviour applied.
When the document is exported the buttons only appear on the first instance of that master page. IE. If pages 2-20 are created from that master, the buttons only appear on page 2.
I've seen other people reporting this problem in some other threads without an answer, so hopefully someone will see this who knows what the issue is.
I presume this is something to do with CS6, this is occuring in a document that was originally created in CS3 or 4. It's been revived for a new edition, and the buttons used to work perfectly under the old version, but now they're behaving as described. I've recreated them from scratch as well as using the previous version, but the results are the same.

Wasn't there an Acrobat issue that affected this as well? Make sure that is updated, too.
While I'm on it, this is being viewed in Acrobat/Reader, right? Anything else, especially Mac Preview is a bit of crapshoot.

GREP: Apply to first instance only

Another GREP question for you if you can help.
Situation is trying to apply a character style before a specific word, i.e. Applied Character Style "four".......
There are 4 words (lets call them: one, two, three, four) which are a common occurence and will always appear after the text that needs to have the applied character style, but my issue crops up when one of the four words appears twice or more times in one line and the GREP applies it to the 2nd or more instance of this word, i.e. Applied Character Style "one" random text "one"
I am using these greps in the same paragraph style:
^.*(?= one)
^.*(?= two)
^.*(?= three)
^.*(?= four)
I only want to have the GREP to apply to the first instance only - hope this stuff above makes sense?

It's because GREP is greedy, by default.
The expression
^.*(something more)
will always grab as much characters as possible, before processing "something more": effectively, it will match anything up to the very last occurrence of that text.
You can instruct GREP to not match greedy by adding a '?' after the repeat command code:
^.*?(?=\b(one|two|three|four)\b)
-- the question mark can be added to each of the "repeat-this" codes: +, *, and ? ("!??" would mean: "match '!' zero or once, but uses the shortest match possible).
I condensed your list of four commands into one, because it seems to me that all of them would get matched in turn, leading to problems when you have both "one" and "two" in the same sentence. With your GREPs, first all up to "one" would get marked, then all up to "two". Mine uses 'whatever comes first'.
(I also added 'word boundaries' \b before and after, because you wouldn't want to match the 'one' in "Mr. Jones".)
