i have an apple id set for egypt with a Visa payment, and i can only see free books on ibooks store ? i want to buy some books. thanks in advance

Not all countries can purchase books yet from the ibookstore. Instead try Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks stores (they have free readers for iOS devices).

Apple can only sell content in iBooks that the publishers have allowed them to - if they havn't been granted permission then they can only 'sell' free content. So if you are in one of those countries where there is only free content then you will need to buy and use a different ebook content provider (the terms of use of the stores say you can only purchase/download from your own country's stores). Do you have Kindle (Amazon), Nook, or other ebook retailers in your country ?

Ibooks store is only free books - all ancient classics

I can access the ibook site on my ipad, but all it displays is free books - mostly ancient classics.
How do I get books with a price? New books! I have an itunes account, as I have purchased many apps, so they must know who I am and who to send the bill to.

I don't think so. My problem was that I registered with the Belgian iBooks site - which apparently has no copyright agreements yet. Had I just left my account in the UK, I would have been OK (but I closed my UK bank account). I am in France now, and happily browsing books on the UK store using a UK bank.
But this all seems a bit odd.
If I log onto the UK Amazon site, they do not care where my bank account is. Likewise with Lulu. So why does Apple get all exited about matching your address with a bank account from the same country and only logging on to that country's iBook site??
It is a nonsense, in this day and age.
And it means that no Belgian or Dutch iPad users can buy any books yet, unless they can find a UK bank or credit card. That is just plain mad. Who do Apple want to stop customers buying their products, and enjoying their hardware fully???

In some countries there are currently only free books available - Apple can sell books where the publishers have granted them licenses to do so (what you can buy where). Do you have access to other ebook apps/stores ?

If you have one of the public-domain books provided by Project Gutenberg (these are books published many years ago and which have therefore fallen out of copyright, such as the Dickens and Jane Austin books), you should be able to open it using Calibre:

or one of the other applications that can open ePub format. Launch the app and point it to the book file, which will be in your iTunes folder, in iTunes Music (Media) -> Books.

What country are you in ? (This page shows what content types are available where.) Some countries currently only have free books, to be able to sell recent/current books in a particular country the publisher's need to grant Apple a license to do so. Have you got access to other ebook apps/stores in your country ?

Free books don't sync with iPod

Why won't free books sync with my iPod? I don't have any issue with paid books. Any ideas why this is happening?

When the Sync finishes, do you see a message telling you that "some videos" have not been transferred to your iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod? If so, then those videos are not in a format that the iPod can recognise.
One reason (but not the only one) is if they are HD videos, which iPods cannot play. In this case, look for the non-HD version of the Podcast if there is one and download that instead.
If HD is not the problem, perhaps they are in one of the MP4 format variations that do not play on the iPod. Below is the spec for videos that iPod Classic can handle, as quoted on the Classic Technical Specs pages:

* H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

So if the videos are not in one of theose formats, they will not play and therefore not be transferred to the iPod.
You could try selecting the video in your iTunes library and clicking on *Advanced/Create iPod or iPhone version* but each conversion take a long time and it isn't always successful.

Free books not playing

down load free a free book and it does not play, athough it is in the library

i'm just saying that it (did) work perfectly. it's basically a search engine for the bookstore and it used to work as such. i would type in charles dickens and it displayed all of his books available for download whether they require purchasing or not. it was a great way to search free books by author.
now whenever you type in charles dickens, it only shows his classic works that require payment. the kicker is that the free books of the same title simply do not show up under his name, as if they simply are not in the bookstore. it's bizarre. but if you type in the specific title, such as Great Expectations, then and only then will it display the free offering. i don't get it. it is not allowing you to search free books by author, only by title.
i would say that it is simply a flawed search engine, but it isn't the case because this afternoon, one could type in charles dickens, or dickens charles free and get aprox 5 pages of FREE charles dickens books. my dad is a major dickens nut and is contemplating getting an ipad. i showed him all of the free dickens books and he was very impressed. he took the ipad and tried it himself and then we discovered that that type of search no longer worked. so... it would be logical to assume that the search engine has been modified to make it more difficult to find free books - or to give one the impression that there are no free offerings by the author's name that they searched. if this is the case, i'm very unimpressed and it seems a bit dishonest. hopefully it is just a software bug that is being worked out.
try it yourself, search:
charles dickens - yields great expectations among others listed, 5.99 no free offering
great expectations - yields TWO offerings, one free, the other 5.99
so, if a person searched for a specific dickens book and looked it up by author, they would have no clue that there was a free version within the bookstore.

is it an audiobook or an ibook because if it is not an audiobook then it wouldn't be able to play on a pc because ibooks are only meant for ipad, ipod touch, or iphone

I am trying to backup some free books I got and downloaded onto my Ipod touch. Now I cannot get it to sync onto my computer. Can anyone help me? I would hate to lose them as they are no longer free.

There seems to only be an option to transfer FROM my computer but not TO my computer from my device.

Overdrive media are not iTunes purchases so they do not transfer with:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
Overdive media are copy protected so you can only read them via Overdrive. I do not understand what you mean by free books and are now paid. Overdrive are typically books for a public library.
You can try looking on your iPod via a third-party program like PhoneView, Touch copy or the free program iFunBox

wanting everything in a single resource is too much to ask. You should split your query into three:
1) how to make platform games
2) how to make games in a windowed environment
3) how to do games in applets
For the first, that is quite difficult to put in a book as a generic topic. What you are looking for is how to make games, with that knowledge you should be able to figure out how to do a platform game. That is quite an involving task. You will have to find out:
1.1) how to efficiently blit graphics
1.2) 2D collision detection
1.3) framerate independent animations and movement
1.4) the "game loop"
as a start.
Making games in a windowed environment is not much different than fullscreen games actually; only the size of the screen is different. Other than that there shouldn't be much difference between the two, other than at the hardware level which you will probably not have to worry about too much in your beginning game development endeavors.
How to do a game in an applet: it is not much different from doing a game in a regular Swing application. I would start there and then later figure out how to do it in an applet. Using a Swing timer and custom painting on a JPanel should get you far enough, I would think.
For later projects you may want to look into the Slick library, which you can find here: http://slick.cokeandcode.com/ . I wouldn't start there though, start simpler with Swing only.

You should not be able to use any country's itunes store from outside of that country.
