Only half of my RAW files can be read

So I got a card from our photographer and half of the NEF files open fine will the other half are giving me an error saying that my version of Photoshop does not support that camera. Which makes no sense. It's from the same camera. You guys have any idea what happend or what I could do to recover those files?
I am running Photoshop 5.1 Extended v12.1 x64 on a Mac running 10.6.8 with Camera Raw plug-in v6.7.0.339 and finally all the photos were shot on a Nikon D800. Thanks!

The file on dropbox is rejected by the current ACR 8.3 and Lightroom 5.3.
The utility that would fix NikonTransfer or ViewNX corruption rejects this file a being a non-standard format.
I can use other utilities to extract the entire sensor data as a TIF so I don't think the data, itself, is corrupted.
The D800 can shoot FX mode using full-frame lenses and DX mode shooting with crop-frame lenses. Googling, I can't find anything about either of these modes not being supported by LR.
The D800 can shoot regular raw photos with a 3:2 aspect ratio and video-still raw photos with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
A blurb on Adobe's website says the initial release of LR 4 (compatible with CS6 and ACR 7) can read 3:2 aspect ratio files but the 16:9 aspect ratio files are not supported until LR 4.1, which would be equivalent to the raw engine in CS6/ACR 7.1.
So that would mean you have no chance on CS5.x/ACR 6.7 but suggests later versions of LR and ACR would read it, starting with LR 4.1 and ACR 7.1; however, it does not work in the most current versions of LR 5, and seems to cause LR 4.3 and LR 4.4 to abort with a program error, so something is not right.
The file on dropbox that doesn't read into Adobe products is 4800x2704. This means it is both a DX-crop file and 16:9 video-still aspect-ratio file. Apparently while Adobe can read DX-crop files and 16:9 video-still files, Adobe products don't seem to work on a combination of both of those conditions.
Or maybe there is some slight corruption, although I'd expect only a few of your files to be unreadable if it was actually corruption, but if its half then probably all the files that are video stills with a DX lens are unreadable.
When I try to open the file in Raw Therapee (a free raw converter) it complains about a few fields being unknown but does open the file and will allow adjustments. It may also not quite know what to do with DX-crop video-stills but it is more forgiving than Adobe products.
I have been unable to find a webpage at Adobe or elsewhere that says it will not read DX-crop video stills, but this is my working assumption.
Do you have access to pay-for (or free) Nikon raw-conversion software that is new enough to understand D800 images that could be used to at least create TIF files from these DX-video-stills so you could do further processing in LR?
Finally you might upload another couple of these files to dropbox.com in case something is indeed corrupted with the one example you put there, and others would work fine in newer Adobe products.

Only half of my video files import

I have been trying to import some video files which are around 4 GB and a .avi file, yet only half of the video imports. The first half runs fine, yet as you can see in the image below, the last two boxes just show black and also has no audio. The files play fine in quicktime, so I'm curious what the problem is. Any ideas?

Did you check in the finder how the drive is formatted? Use get info as was asked earlier in the thread.
Once again, AVI is not supported in FCP. The material needs to be converted. It's displaying an odd icon that you don't normally see attached to a clip, which may be due to the type of media this is. Full information about the media specs would be useful to know. Bottom line though you need to convert this before TOU bring it into FCP.

Problem related to PS CS6 ext. on Mac. Installation is OK but I can't open picture from my Nikon D610 (Raw NEF format). I get a message "can not open this format ...". Checking Help menu to see if I miss an update the message I get is that I'm up-to-date but at the end Nikon D610 (format supported of course) files can not be opened . What OS are you running: 10.x.x?
What version of the Camera Raw plug-in do you have? Do (About) Plug-ins / Camera Raw to find out.
You need at least ACR 8.3 to open D610 files. If the Help / Updates process does not work, then there is a manual install process you can do. The page with the download is for when people accidentally updated to ACR 8.4 and need to roll back to ACR 8.3 due to their OS being incompatible, but the installer on that page works even if you haven’t erroneously updated to ACR 8.4:

Why is Noise Reduction only available with some raw files

I have been going through my CRW, CR, and CR2 raw files and have noticed that some, when opened in ACR, do not allow me to adjust all the parameters in Noise Reduction. I thought it might be ISO related, but with a group of identically created raw files, some have full Noise Reduction adjustments while the next file will not. The only group that offers full adjustment with all files are the newer CR2 files captured with a 5D Mark II. Older 5D and 10D raw files are a hit and miss.
Am I missing something?

Another way is to just go into the Camera Calibration tab and select the 2010 process.

I use LR 3.3 and recently it has stopped importing RAW files saying they cannot be read. I have been able to import them into iPhoto making me think the files are ok... any suggestions please????

I assume you're trying to import from the camera directly, or from the card via a card reader?
Try a card reader instead of importing from the camera directly
Try copying the files to local HD from outside of LR and import from there
Sometimes unreliable USB connections can lead to such symptoms.

Small size file can not read correctly on other linux

Hi, I am running archlinux 0.8 on my laptop, and there is another linux runs kernel version 2.6.20 with root filesystem of debian v3.1.
I wrote a shell script which reads a small, 49 bytes, only 1 line conf file on my archlinux, it works fine.
But if I copy script & conf files to debian, the script can not read conf file with:
while read f;do; echo $f; done < conf
but `cat`,`more` commands can read it. I have to open conf file with vi on debian and do nothing but :wq rewrite it to make script working.
Both arch & debian use ext3 file system. Could anyone tell me why? thanks.

I think your command is wrong: it works with zsh and doesn`t work in bash. Maybe you should remove extra ';'?

Hijack of RAW files by PDF reader

suddenly this evening all my raw files got Acrobat logo.
on the 'open with' panel I was unable to choose Photoshop, but if I go to PS I can locate and open the file.
I cannot choose Photoshop on the "open with" panel for any file (jpeg,tiff, arw)
I had downloaded a reader update a few days ago, but no trouble for those few days.
I run CC 2014, on Win 7 Ultimate with all updates, and Norton 360.

I maybe off the mark but...
Right click on the file
Select open with
Select more programs/choose default
Select browse
Navigate (browse) to PS location under 'programs'
Highlight PS Excecutable
Click open
make sure 'use as default' box is checked
click ok.
Unless you have some type of other problems this should do it and PS will reappear in the 'default program' list.

In general what type of files can we create in Java?You know that a file is nothing more than a series of ones and zeros, with eight of those bundled together as something called a byte. What they actually mean is what you make them to mean. Short: you can write and read any file type you like, but doing that semantically correct it is your responsibility.

Office 2008: NONE of my files can be read on other computers

Ok, so my Microsoft Office 2008 used to work perfectly. Now, all of a sudden, NO ONE can read any of my files if they are on a regular PC. Whether I save as .docx, .doc, .rtf, whatever...it doesnt matter. NO ONE can open my files.
When i save the files and email them to myself and try to open on a PC, it doesnt carry over the .docx (or whatever extension) extension. I download the attachment and there is no file extension. If I rename the file on my PC to .doc/etc. and it tries to open in Word, it says Word needs a converter.
Does anyone have any ideas what happened here?

PC also reads the file with no problems. What is different from this file and the others?
