Only half of photos in library load to iphoto 2

I've done a library rebuild and it hasn't helped. I can see the iphoto library in my finder, and it looks like they are all there, but they are not loading. The last photo is dated 10/21/04. Should I try importing those photos again? Isn't that kind of weird since I would be choosing folders in the iphoto library to import?
Or...should I install ibuddy and create new librarys and then try to import again?

same problem, multiple threads.
My computer was full. I transfered my photo library to the external drive along with all my documents, and then cleaned up my computer, reinstalled osX, and applications, moved everything back to the hard drive, except for my iphoto library. I was able to access all my photos in iphoto for about 2 days, and then...only half the photos come up. The number of photos is at about 1500, and two days ago there were 3800. When I look in the finder, I can see the folders and that they have stuff in them, but they don't load into the library when I launch iphoto.
In the mean time, when I launched iphoto, I got the the "loading photos" message, but nothing ever loaded...it just kept saying it was loading. I did all the steps mentioned for the post about "iphoto stuck on loading photos"
Ran "Repair Permissions" from Disk Utility located in Applications>Utilties Folder.
Removed the preference (.plist file) and restart iPhoto.
If it still doesn't work go on to these remedies, in order.
5. Bad Album data?
Old Toad says:
1 - move the Albums folder and the AlbumData.xml file to the desktop.
2 - launch iPhoto. It if launches successfully you probably have a corrupt album.
To locate the bad "apple", pun intended, do the following:
1 - move one of the individual album folders and it's associated data file into the new Albums folder that was created in the iPhoto Library folder.
2 - launch iPhoto. If it's successful do the same with the next album folder and data file. If iPhoto doesn't launch successfully, that's a bad one and remove it and the data file.
3 - repeat for each individual album folder in the old Albums folder.
6. Rebuild Library
So I did those things and now my iphoto loads again, but still only 1500ish photos.
Word now doesn't load, and I tried to install Microsoft player, and no luck. I think my computer is dying and it's time for a new imac. Any suggestions? I'm fairly certain I haven't lost the photos, but that for some reason, they just don't show up in the library when iphoto is launched.

All of the photos are compatible (JPEG) for syncing, but only half of them are syncing onto my iPhone 4S.

Is there something wrong with the actual photos, iPhoto 11, or is it iTunes?

  • Why will only half my photos download to iPhoto?

Just got back from a great vacation with a lot of nice shots, but only about half of the photos would download from my Canon PowerShot S30. We have had this problem intermittently with iPhoto since our G5 was brand new. Sometimes all photos download, sometimes a few are missing, and sometimes as much as half. No rhyme or reason to it. The photos will occasionally download after trying reapeatedly. All photos download to a pc with no problem. Why can't we get our iPhoto to do it?
Thanks for any clues to this mystery!

On other occasions when I've had the same problem, there were no movie clips.<<<</div>
In that case, I don't know.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Only the last photo download shows up in iPhoto

I just downloaded new photo from my Camera. Those new photos are the only one that now appears into iPhoto. I can still see my 73G iphoto library on my hard drive, I can also see the pictures when I click on show package content, but I am unable to open it with iPhoto. If I double click to open the library, iPhoto opens up and the only photo show are the last few that I downloaded.
    Can anyone help?
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.1) iPhoto '08 version 7.1.1

Try to go to iphoto>file>import to librarY
    No, please don't do that!
If you do then iPhoto will import Original, Modified and thumbnail files and treat them all as individual new images, leading to a mess and massive duplication.
To try and get iPhoto to open the library the correct way is to hold down the option (or alt) key while starting iPhoto, then select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the library location.

  • Photos in Library missing from iPhoto

I opened iPhoto earlier and noticed that about 5000 pictures were missing. They are all still in the library but do not show up in iPhoto. I tried rebuilding the library to no avail. Any suggestions besides manually dragging everything back into iPhoto and rearranging the albums?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    misam
You could try rebuilding with iPhoto Library Manager, which uses different strategies for rebuilding. However, if your db file is corrupted your only options are your back up or to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Sorry to barge in but been troubleshooting my problem for 3 days and I think I need anger management classes now.
My goal is to install Logic Pro. My internal HD is full. Bought a new Internal Hitachi Deskstar 500GB. Installed it. After restart it is recognized. I formatted it and ultimately want it to be my master boot HD. Now Logic needs an OS to operate so I am trying to install OS X from my original "Power Mac G4 Software Install and Restore" disc. CD/DVD combo drive reads the disc, I execute the installer, then it asks me to restart. Problem is, on restart at the installer screen my Keyboard and mouse dont work so I cant do the install. Tried bypassing my USB hub by plugging directly into Mac, tried pressing the "C" key on startup, tried the "Option" key on restart, tried disconnecting my original HD, and nuttin. Uggggg!
Oh, by BTW, I have a G4 PPC (mirrored door type) currently running OS X Tiger 10.4.11.

After switching to new Iphone5c half the photos (newest) downloaded and the rest is grey squares and a downloading spiral continues to spin.

  • Importing from an iPhoto library only half appear in the application but half are left in the library, how to move on?

when I import from an upgraded iPhoto library half the photos appear in the application but half are left in the library. How do I get my iPhoto to show all the photos?

Thank you this. It is the version that came with Yesomite which asked me to upgrade the file from an earlier version of iPhoto 6. This  did and it it rebuilt the Library. when I came look at the photo on the latest iPhoto only half go them appeared. I was opening the library that comes from the choice when you hold down command and option keys at the applecation start up. The other photographs were in the updated library but did not appear on the screen in the application window. They are present in the library but not showing in the application. IS that I have not given the time for them to load? This seem unlikely however. Thanks again

  • HT201317 Just got a 4S.  We've taken 1,000 photos which are in the camera roll.  Photo Stream has loaded the last half of the 477 pictures.   Not sure what happened to the first 523 pictures.  How do I request that these be uploaded again to Photo Stream?

I have a 4S and have taken 1,000 photos.  For some reason only the last half of them, 477 pictures, loaded to Photo Stream.  I think I turned off Photo Stream in attempting to set up iCloud.  How do I re-load the first set of 523 photos again to Phot Stream?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
It is not very easy at all to add photos to photo stream from your camera roll on your phone, the only way I'm aware that this can be achieved is to take a screenshot of each photo. It would be much simpler to sync your photos to a computer and add them to photo stream from there.
Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation.

  • Export from photo library loses date in half the photos

I used a separate iPhoto library to pare down duplicates from a folder of assorted photos that I eventually wanted to integrate into my main iPhoto library. All 3000+ photos had the correct date. Approximately half of these survived the purge, and were exported (full size, with file name included) to a file folder. When I imported these photos into my main library, I discovered that approximate half of these now had today's date. Inspecting the folder they were imported from, I found that the creation date and modification date of these 750 or so photos were both today's date, rather than the date they had had when in the separate small iPhoto library.
What would cause just some of the photos to lose their original date?
(As a work-around, I have now imported the original 3000+ photos into my main library, where they show the correct original date. I have further given them all a unique keyword, and created a smart folder for them so that I can continue to import other photos while I work to once again remove the unwanted duplicates from this set.)

I had chosen JPEG, but I subsequently ran the same export using "Original" and then "Current". The last two exports changed the dates in about 95% of the images to the current date. The JPEG export changed only about half of the dates.
I seem to have had a problem with some of the subject images being corrupt where the Information panel showed the Kind as "_" in iPhoto, but the Extended Photo Info still showed the correct date in the File Modified field. This field then got changed to the current date when the file was exported, regardless of which export "Kind" was chosen. This changed date was consistent viewing the image in the finder or in iPhoto, either in the Information panel or in the "Extended Photo Info" panel, and was the date used by iPhoto for sorting the photos.
Not very useful for hunting down duplicate photos.
So I imported ALL the 3000 or so photos directly into my main iPhoto file, where they kept their original modification date, and then spent the last day or so comparing them to my main database of about 13000 photos.
So why does the Export feature modify the date to the current date? I know you specify that the file data and the exif data are different beasts, but I don't see any place that they differ.

  • I have 10Gb of photos on my iphone, so can choose only half of it (5Gb) and share it with icloud and leave the rest on my phone storage, or i must share all photos and videos (my whole camera roll)

I have 10Gb of photos on my iphone, so can choose only half of it (5Gb) and share it with icloud and leave the rest on my phone storage, or i must share all photos and videos (my whole camera roll)

No.  Your iCloud account only includes your the camera roll photos stored in the backup.  And they can only be accessed by restoring the backup to your phone.  Also, if you delete any photos from your camera roll and continue to back up, the backup that contained the deleted photos would be overwritten by one that doesn't and they would be lost.
If you want to save some of them and delete them from your phone, import them to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Another option is to import all of them to your computer and delete them from your phone, then put the ones you want on your phone in a folder and sync them back to your phone by selecting the folder on the photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  The advantage of this approach is that synced photos are placed in an album called Photo Library, which is not included in the iCloud backup (since they are already backed up on your computer), thereby saving space in your iCloud account (which only backs up camera roll photos).

  • When I first am looking at my newly uploaded photos in "Library", a box appears near the bottom of the photo that says "loading" (the photo looks good to me), then it is more "faded" and does not look as good.  Is there some setting on that I am not aware

When I am first looking at my newly uploaded photos in "Library," a box appears near the bottom of the photo that says "Loading".  While it is loading, I usually think the photo looks "good".  After the photo is done loading, it looks more washed out.  Is there some sort of setting that I might have on (or that I need to turn on) so that this does not happen.  I have Lr4.  Thanks.

    Hi Tracy,
There used to be a way to see if poster was new to the forum.., anyway - welcome to the forum.
As I was alluding to, biggest differences in initial display are due to:
    * Camera calibration profile.
    * Auto-exposure/contrast settings (for which compensations have been auto-applied in camera, but not in Lightroom).
So, choose a matching camera calibration profile (whether that's an option or not depends on your camera model - they're available for many but not all models) if you prefer one of them over "Adobe Standard" (the factory default profile).
Also, your camera covers for underexposure due to non-optimal auto-exposure/contrast setting, Lightroom doesn't, so your options are:
    * turn it off in camera.
    * learn to compensate manually (or automatically via a plugin) in Lightroom.
Of course, in addition to preferred defaults (alt-click big "reset" button in dev module), come up with some presets which are appropriate for your druthers and type of photography.. e.g. these will compensate Nikon ADL settings:
