Only have cache files in Profile folder

My laptop froze whilst using firefox and will no longer turn on. I have taken out the hdd to backup important files including my firefox profile. However, the profile folder only contains cache folders and nothing else. What has happened to my bookmarks information? I was running Firefox 14 on Windows 7.

You did look in the wrong location (likely in Local Settings\Application Data).
This location is used for the cache and not for the main Firefox profile folder:
*C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
The main profile folder is located here:
*C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
If you didn't include this folder in the backup then I'm afraid that your personal data is lost.

bcoz of this for few records also my report takes too much time and opens very slow and it takes long time, and it happens in some of the reports only , other reports are working cool and its not creating any file in temp folder,,,
so can u guide me whats this file and what can be the solution for it,
Thanks
Mithun

I have never heard of "rpt conmgr cache" being created in any temp directory. Is that the actual name of the file you are seeing?
As you have not applied any updates, I'd recommend applying SP 4 to your development system. SP 4 is here:
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006255422008E/crxir2_sp4_inc.exe
Next, I'd recommend getting the SP 4 runtime on the client. You have two options; MSI file of create your own deployment sing the msm files. The MSI file is here:
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009657852008E/crxir2sp4_net_si.zip
MSM is here:

Also, I don't think I still have a good handle on this:
"my report takes too much time and opens very slow and it takes long time"
What is long time? Two seconds, two minutes, etc.?

• Suspicious files in profile folder

There are two executable files in my Firefox profile folder called SESSIONSTORE.JS.EXE and TEMP.EXE. Both files have the McAfee logo as their icon (large red M with gray background).
I have scanned both files with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes, and neither file was flagged as suspicious.
Both files have a filedate of 12/19/2008 and each is 3,092 KB in length.
Are these files OK, are they possibly a leftover from McAfee antivirus or Site Advisor (which I used to use) or should I delete them?
I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thanks for your help.

You can delete them as they appear to be quite old from 2008
Maybe it is time to create a new profile if the current profile is that old to remove remnants from previous Firefox versions.
I notice that your System Details List is showing a lot of prefs that are no longer supported in the current release and that you also have a user.js file that could possibly add some of those prefs.
It is quite likely that your localstore.rdf has quite a large file size and stores obsolete data.
See "Creating a profile":
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

• How to open Drafts file in Profile Folder Adobe says can't open HELP!

Lately several drafts just disappear. Today a very important draft I was making/had finished, disappeared. Read in forum to shut down Thunderbird, go to Profiles then open the draft file, however when I try to open draft file Adobe PDF deal says it cannot open. Am desperate to get this draft that disappeared back ASAP!
I am running Windows 7 and so need little step by little step instructions on how to accomplish this.
BTW I see 2 draft files 1st appears like a blank page just says Drafts. The other says Drafts.msf and has the PDF logo within. Both of them, when I try to open I get error message from Adobe Reader saying " Adobe Reader could not open Drafts.msf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)"
Thanks in advance for ANY help in the matter ASAP as this particular draft is of great importance & sure don't want to have to redo such a very long detailed email!!!

• Why does Muse upload many pages when I only have Modified Files option selected?

In Muse, when I use the "Upload to FTP Host" option (my preferred update method), Muse will load 37 pages (I have almost 70) even though I have made no changes whatsoever.
I have read and implemented options suggested on this forum including this:

Hi Ellen,
It looks like your muse_manifest.xml file is corrupt. Please login to your BC site's admin, go to Site Manager > File manager and delete the muse_manifest.xml file. Publish the site again from Muse and select to publish all the files. Next time when you will publish the modified files only, it will work.
Cheers!
Aish
I deleted the muse_manifest.xml file and selected the Upload to FTP Host option selecting the option "All Files". Afterward there was no change.
This is what happens:
I edit pages and select the Upload to FTP Host option. I have "Only Modified Pages" selected. I have made changes to three or four pages. Muse uploads 37 pages. I made no changes to a master page. The update said it was successful. I click OK. I go to my site and pages are loaded properly.
The very next thing I do is try another update and it loads 37 pages, although I have made absolutely zero changes. Not to a master, not to any page. The last thing I clicked in Muse was OK when it said the update was successful. I do it again after changing nothing and 37 pages load. It is not loading every page. Just 37 (sometimes less, sometimes more).
I do not have any alerts showing on my assets panel that Muse might be confused by.
My Muse file is 55.4 MB (sizable, but nowhere near what others are dealing with.)
Can you help me?
Bruce

Okay, I emailed the link to my dropbox awhile back but continued to work on the problem on my own as I did not hear back. Maybe you never saw the email, who knows?
Anyhow, I discovered that it was custom buttons that I had created in Photoshop, with layers. They worked just fine in Muse in all four states, they worked just fine when published. They were added to my library but on every page that they were placed, that page loaded every time. I checked and rechecked the links. I added them to the library for each page they were on. No dice. They still required that page be loaded every time
It was definitely not worth the hassle so I deleted every one from my site and the site loads only modified pages perfectly now.
Maybe some day I will dig deeper into why they did not work but not today.
I hope that this helps someone.

• How to edit an existing pdf (only have pdf file)

Hello
I have PageMaker for Windows version 7.01 and Adobe Distiller 5. A colleague created a pdf which I now need to edit. Unfortunately we have no access to original design documetn - only the end pdf. What is the easiest way for me to edit the pdf? I assumed that I could import the pdf into PageMaker but doesn't look like I can.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Angus

PDF is an end product, not intended for editing. That said, minor edits
can be made using Acrobat Professional and then there are many third
party solutions.
If all you have is PM you're out of luck.

• Do I need all those media cache files in my user profile?

Hello Forum,
When I installed Win 7 and Adobe Production Premium on a 120Gig SSD, I made this mistake of not putting only the essential part of Windows on this System and Apps drive. (I have separate 1Tb HDDs for media and rendering, and work with compressed HD files). I noticed that my user profile has grown enormous, to the point of filling up the SSD, and when I searched to see why, the main problem is a substantial accumulation of media cache files in the folder...
user/App Data/Roaming/Common/Media Cache Files
Judging by their names, sizes, and dates, they seem to pretty much replicate all my raw media files on my media HDD, from all the projects I've done since last summer. This folder is about 40 gigs.
So what is the function of this media cache folder? Can I move it, or direct PP to put this stuff on some other drive than my SSD? Do I even need the contents of this folder? All my scratch files go to the F: Rendering HDD.
Thanks.
PS: If any of you have suggestions on how to move my user profiles off the boot/apps SSD to one of the HDDS, without reinstalling everything, I'm all ears.

To follow up, I now see this is a product of running AME, and AME gives me options of where to put all this stuff. Can I just change those options to my F: Rendering Drive, and move the contents of this folder there?

• Remove caches file's automatically if you delete a folder from your drive???

Gday,
First off all sorry for my poor/bad English.
When i remove/delete a folder in bridge, where will by the cache file of this folder??
Does it also Remove/delete automatically, ????
Or should I in the preferences box, tick on the (automatically Export Cache to folders when possible) option???
Already many Thanks,
Henry

As the others say, no, the backup copy won't be deleted immediately, but it will eventually.

• Getting "Unable to write cache file" message in DW CS4

I was having some issues with a Javascript message, so looking for possible solutions, I came across “Deleting a Corrupted Cache File” in the Index to Dreamweaver FAQ located on this forum. I decided to give it a shot and carefully followed the instructions on my Windows XP, deleting the suggested cache file in my Configuration folder. That didn’t help make my Javascript message go away, though I did eventually find a work-around for that issue.
However, after deleting this cache file, I began to get the following message every time I close my program or change sites in local files, “Unable to write cache file ‘C:\Documents and Settings\...” the message ends with the site name and the extension .dws. If I go to Manage Sites and turn off the Enable Cache button for that particular site, I no longer get the message. But if I turn the Enable Cache Button back on, I get the message again. It gives this same message for all the sites.
I’m hoping others have had this issue and there is a simple fix. I can’t say for sure that deleting the cache file in the configuration folder caused this, but it was only after that I began noticing the problem, so it would make sense the two are likely related.
Also, I wonder how important the cache is. I could just turn off the Enable Cache Button for all the sites as a work-around if there's no quick fix and if it’s no big deal.

First of all, only delete cache files when DW is shutdown.
Also, there are a few different caches. That article only addresses 1 of them. Take a look at this TechNote to be able to find the Site .dws cache files:

• Extract thumbnail images from a cache file without originals?

After an external drive crash, I'm left with only the Bridge (CS2) cache files for a folder full of images. Does anyone know a way to extract the thumbnails from the cache as jpgs or some other standalone format when you *don't* have the original image files? They would be low-res, but better than nothing. Thanks in advance.

>>says that this export technique does not work, it produces a low res screen version of the file.
Are you certain the original files were any better?
My preferred method of doing this works well, but it takes a few extra steps. I'd make a high-res PDF out of the PM file, then pick apart the PDF to extract the graphics. Are the graphics raster or vector? If they're raster, you can use Acrobat's Touch-up Object tool to open them in Photoshop. If they're vector, you can open the PDF in Illustrator and save out the graphics from there.

• CS2: Adobe Bridge Cache File on Desktop...Why?

For some unknown reason...CS2 has started placing "Adobe Bridge Cache" file shortcuts on my desktop. When I click on one, I receive a Win XP error message that says the file .bc is unkown and can't be opened.
These shortcuts have never appeared before. Now the simple act of opening Bridge and looking at jpeg files seems to initiate it.
Questions: Why is PS doing this? Do I need to pay attention to it? If not, how do I stop PS from cluttering up my desktop.
Thanks!
Ed

Ed,
Yes you can. The cache facilitates the quick display of images in a folder.
When there's no cache, Bridge has to render thumbnails from every image file upon viewing a folder's contents. This can take a couple of minutes.
Rob
P.S.
>I do, indeed, have image files in a folder on my desktop.
This would mean that there is a cache inside that folder, *not* on the desktop itself.

• Event ID 33020 LS Centralized Logging Agent - Error while moving cache files to network share

I have the "AlwaysOn" CLS logging scenario running in my Lync 2013 Enterprise deployment. I did not configure the CacheFileNetworkFolder option since i don't care about retaining these logs anywhere other than on the local drives of the Lync

The CsClsLogging configuration is as follows:

Is there a way to stop the flow of these events without having to configure CLS to transfer the logs to a network share?

Yes, the CacheFileLocalFolders path of 'c:\CLSTracing' is valid on all the Lync servers. The AlwaysOn scenario is started, running and producing .hdr & .cache files in this folder on all servers across my front-end, director and edge pools.
In addition, i am able to search for and extract, valid logging information that i can analyze using Snooper.exe.

• Lightroom not finding DNG files in the folder

I am using Lightroom 2.5. My library includes a folder with approximately 5000 images which is located on an external hard drive as is my Lightroom catalog. I use the external dive because it is part of a RAID 1 array to backup my images.
My problem began when I used Lightroom to convert the 600 RAW files in the folder to DNG files. Prior to the conversion, the library tab showed that there were 5000 files in the folder. After the conversion, the library tab shows that there are only 4400 files. The DNG files are actually there but Lightroom will not recognize them. I can use windows explorer to see them and that there are 5000 files in the directory.
I have tried to synchronize the folder, but it did not help. I have also tried to write metadata to the files to make sure that was not the problem and it was no help. As a test, I also copied the directory to my local hard drive and imported that into Lightroom. That folder has the correct 5000 images, but of course non of the ratings that I had applied to the 5000 files to organize them so the local folder is useless.
Can anyone suggest a means of convincing Lightroom that it should recognize the missing DNG files that are actually there?
Thank you.

John,
Thank you for your suggestions. I do have filters off.
I started up Lightroom today and again, the Folders tab only showed that the folder had 600 files which corresponds to the missing 600 DNG files. Furthermore, in the grid view, only the 600 DNG files were appearing. But, after a minute and without my input, Lightroom loaded up the 4400 JPEG images into the grid and the DNG files disappeared both from the file count and the grid view.
When I look at the All Photographs folder in grid view, I can find the missing DNG files so they are in the All Photographs folder.
I did as you suggested and I optimized the catalogue. Now when I launch Lightroom, I see the missing 600 DNG files in the grid view and the file count for the folder. But that only lasts a few seconds before the 4400 JPEGS appear and the DNG files disappear. So the optimization made the loading faster as it should, but did not help Lightroom to find the DNG files.
Now when I try to synchronize the folder, It does show that there are 600 files to be added. However, synchronization does not help and DNG files are still missing.
I can see the DNG files in a folder called “Already in Catalog” from when I tried to synchronize the original folder. After optimizing the catalog, I told Lightroom to write metadata for the DNG files. Once I did that, some of the missing DNG files did appear in the grid view of the original folder (but not all of the 600 missing files). However, the library still only shows 4400 files in the folder.
One last oddity. When I change the sort to “user order” from “capture time”, I see only the 600 missing DNG files in the grid view. The 4400 JPEG files are gone. But when I change the sort back to capture time, the JPEG files and the few DNG files are there again and most of the DNG files are gone.
This bugginess is only occurring on the external drive. The same files saved to the local hard drive all appear in the file count and the grid view.
Thank you.
