Only "Headphones" sound, no speaker sound after 4.2.1 upgrading

After I had finished upgrading 4.2.1 firmware for my iPad, the speaker's sound has gone.
I can hear the sound from my iPad only when I connected to any headphones or bluetooth devices.
I tried many methods to get the sound back, starting from:
1. trying to plug in and out my headphone - nothing changed
2. switch on and off from the mute button (former is lock button) but it only showed "Headphones" or "Mute" sign.
3. shut down and turn on my iPad - nothing changed
4. Hard Reset my iPad and Restore - Still no sound, but I had to re-install everything again
5. Ask everyone and search every "no sound from iPad" topics but found none like mine.
However, while I upgraded the firmware, I noticed that I "locked" the screen during the process and I heard someone in the internet told me that it might be the origin of my problem.
I tried to sync my iPad and find how to re-upgrading the firmware again with no "locked" the button but there is no way to.

I've been having this problem for several months and just found this thread.  Unfortunately the solution isn't well spelled out, but I was able to resolve the issue.
To recap:
Problem: Many/most non-Apple Apps have no sound from the iPad internal speaker.  Plugging headphones in provides sound from all apps.  Apple Apps (youtube, music, video, safari, etc) continue to function and play sound out of internal speakers normally.
Resolution: This issue appears to be related to the 'mute' / screen orientation lock button.  If your iPad mute switch was on mute when you switched it to orientation lock, 3rd party apps will remain muted via internal speakers no matter what you do.  Luckily an easy fix: Go Settings -> General and switch from 'lock rotation' to mute.  Slide the switch to the non-muted position. You can now switch back to 'lock rotation' and your apps will play sound from the internal speaker again!!!

  • No sound on MacBook Pro after 10.6.8 upgrade

    Good morning.
I've got an 5,1 model MacBook Pro (aluminium unibody) 4gb RAM, 2.4GHz Core2Duo and it's been working fine up until yesterday when I installed the 10.6.8 Snow Leopard update.
Since then I get no sound through earphones or through the internal speakers.
If I ALT+Click the speaker icon I get two outputs:
    Soundflower (2ch)
    Soundflower (16ch)
I've no idea what Soundflower is, and a spotlight search just shows up sound.log which refers to
    6/23 18:54:29.163  => WoW Version 4.1.0 (14007) Apr 29 2011
So that looks like World of Warcraft (just started WoW and logged in, turned sound off, turned sound on and no sound from WoW either)
Looking at the log in the console and narrowing it down to Soundflower I see:
    6/25 10:50:02.974   --- [1] Soundflower (2ch)
    6/25 10:50:02.976   --- [2] Soundflower (16ch)
    6/25 10:50:02.980  ** Using Driver [0] System Default (Soundflower (2ch))
Anyway, I can get no sound in anything since 10.6.8!
    Any ideas?

    Okay, I tried EVERYTHING.
    Trust Me.
I even did the downgrading to the 10.6.7 HDA.
    HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
YOU WILL NOT NEED TO LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE, IF YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
    1. Download and install the 10.6.8 Supplemental Update from Apple (link below).
                                http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
    2. Once the update is installed, and the system has restarted, type "Disk Utility" into Spotlight, press enter to launch it, and select your hard drive on the left. Then click "Repair Disk Permissions." (This step may or may not be necessary, but is a good idea in case there are discrepancies from the update).
    3. Once the utility is finished, plug in some headphones. Then, press the Option key and click on the speaker icon in the menu bar.
    4. Click the Headphones option under the "Output Device" section. You should get sound.
Unplug the headphones and ensure that the audio is not muted. You should now also get sound through your speakers.
THIS WILL WORK. DO NOT MESS WITH VOODOO, etc. I hear that will just cause kernel panics.
If you still have problems, try resetting the PRAM by simply shutting down the computer. Hold Command+Option+P+R before the gray screen appears. Hold it until you hear the tone a second time, then release.

  • Onboard sound 6 speaker sound problem

I have a set of Sound Blaster 5.1 surround speakers, I have tried every configuration I can think of, but I can't get sound more than 3 speakers at any one time. Have I missed a jumper or something else?
    Almost forgot, I have a KT4 Ultra.
If you need more info let me know.
    Thanks for your help,
    Al

I mentioned something about that here.  But my concern was that it also turns off the Line-In jack, which does no good if you are trying to record something.  Anyone got a clue on this?  Any good sound cards tested with the motherboard?  Comments?

  • HT4623 My iPad 3 has lost the speaker sound after updating to iOS 6.1, headphones are working fine

My iPad 3 has lost the speaker sound after updating to iOS 6.1, headphones are working fine. Please help me out, done all the troubleshooting like restarting, side switcing, cleeaning the headphone jack etc.,

Hi I also have this problem. Sound was only working on the headphones and also on the volume slider in the settings app. Everywhere else I get no sound and no volume slider. Now the headphones don't work either.
    (I'm using an ipad 2 iOS 6.1.2)
And NO it's not muted. I've reset all settings and restarted the iPad. Been searching forums for a couple days. Some say its a dirty docking port problem, others suggest a Skype or other app update that could be the problem.
No volume control icon appears when I press the volume control buttons. Only says sound effects, if it says anything at all. Most often there is NO volume icon. YouTube, video, music, and other game apps, no sound.

    my laptop lost all his sound n speakers..only headphones work.is a g6 b1z96ea
what the hell is going on??i tried anything but doesn´t works

Is "Do not disturb" activated in the Settings?
Did you try to set up the phone as new device without using the latest backup?
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Also try these steps:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • Mini CQ10-450CA mono sound (right speaker only)

    Hello,
The right internal speaker on my new Mini CQ10-450CA seems to be working for both left and right ones since when I test speakers in "Playback Devices / Speakers and Headphones" only the right one produces sounds no matter which speaker I choose left or right.
With external headphones, the stereo is working just fine.
I have Windows 7 Starter and all the software up to date including BIOS.
Can someone let me know if this problem looks to be a hardware issue so the replacement is the only way to fix it?
    Thank you.

Chinese cannot protect you from this yang disaster, and when I speak it, it never gets out.
    Anyway, story to date.
The machine was misrepresented when it was sold, and despite 3 weeks of service visits with claims to have been repaired , and the "LEFT SPEAKER REPLACED" it became apparent, ONLY upon having the case opened (prior to being destroyed by the tech) that irregardles of all and any published spec, and the tecnhicians own knowledge of the machine, that there exists no left hand speaker for there to have ever had been repaired OR replaced.
These specs were edited online on one of two ocurrrences on HPS website that states categorically that they have STEREO SPEAKERS, within hours of an escalation one day. However these are still the specs on the HP Shopping site, and they are clearly viewable.
     |When it became apprent after several weeks that, (WELL WITHIN THEIR OWN cOMPANY repair AND replacement policy)
that we were dealing with some sort of damaged neanderthal or gorilla, a replacement (3rd offer) was agreed upon and agreed to with the return and scknowledgement of a legall binding document. At this point I had a verbal, and written legally binding agreement, (which she offered as an alternative to keep the case out of small claims court), or as I had alluded to earlier (during the day where the published specs were edited within hours) to conclude this escalated case.
I waited for my new laptop.
    I waited longer.
After several more days I calle dback and was then told it was not being approved , and that the replacement they offered now was a machine with none of the funtionality of this one (whereas the policy was to replace it with one thsat has all of the functionality, even if requiring a better unit, that met the advertised specs).
HEWLETT PACKARD renegged on this replacement AFTER having accepted the agreement, after further escalations at HP in California, and my having been told gain yesterday that NOW the agrred-upon replacment has approved.
    They have renegged again.
As I understarnd it, my mother ( unsure as to why she feels to get involved in my absense) spoke to an Escalations Magager Supervisor today and was told that it is being .... in short... I don't know what it is being. Deliberely wasting my time and compounding my complaints by renegging on the original agreement (S).
As cost was a factor in todays delay (although it hasn't been to date, having cost HP  much more than the origninal post and concluding by them having left me with a further damaged machine than when it started) I suppose it has been left not having been addressed at all. The proverbial,  omnipresent SCRAPIE from "last years model".
I will suggest to you the following if you have this complaint about this CQ10 machine.
    3) I will contact now all of the Wireless Carriers that sold this ,model during it's promotion and mention the misrepreented product to them. I will point out how this, as it was a misrepresented product at thier level too, NEGATES ALL OF THE CELLuLAR CONTRACTS for SERVICE that axccompanied this purchase on the simple strength that the product legally locked into owning for the duration of the cell contracts, isn't the one we got. (Didn't get what we were sold, or aed for, or promised as delivered).
    4) Contact your individual cellualr carriers and mention this case to them. Tell them you would like the balance of your cellular contracts cancelled, and they should themelves contact Hewlitt-Packard.
    5) Try a differnt colour Cover Up this season. It's Fall. Know your Autumns from your New, Clear, Winters.
Thus is this case so far. For ALL of this time,, a month, all of these visits, all of these misrepresented "repairs" the facts ramin this notebook is in WORSE condition than when it went for repair, and they are arguing about cost.
In short, one entire month of "Sit, stay, get angry. Stay angry. Progress nowhere."/
How much does a month of your time cost, America? Mine costs you a FORTUNE. An UNPRECEDENTED FORTUNE.
This womam at HP, this escalations manager, just worked on one case for one months and achieved LITERALLY nothing. aDRESSED literally nothing. Concluded LItERALLY NOTHING.
How much is THIS post going to COST YOU, Hewlett=Packard?
I suggest you procede with cellular data contract cancellations.

  • No sound from speaker after upgrading?

I just upgraded my iBook Clamshell 466 SE Graphite with more memory and a new 60GB 7200 RPM Hitachi hardrive. I also upgraded from Panther to Tiger with a Black Retail DVD.
First, I installed the memory and then the following day, I installed the hardrive and OS.
After installing the hardrive myself (30+ steps with the ifixit.com instructions) and installing Tiger, I no longer have sound through the mono speaker although it was working perfectly before. It took me about an hour to carefully and meticulously disassemble and reassemble my laptop while removing tabs, screws, cables, etc. and being organized about it.
I'm not sure why I no longer have speaker sound but the headphone jack still works with sound. I double checked that the speaker cable was properly connected on both ends. I don't think it's a ciruit board issue since sound is still being delivered through the headphone jack.
Is there a way to run some sort of diagnosis as to my sound problem? How do I check my firmware version and is it possible that I need to update? I appreciate any help in advance...

I always try to leave the speaker cable connected to the logicboard (as well as the HD cable) during the installation of the new HD - simply remove the adhesive foil and let it slip through the hole in the EMI shield.
Otherwise you have to wrench at the cable to come out, and that might be the problem.
For testing purposes, try to connect a set of earphones with bare cable heads to the end of the cable or directly to the solder joints of the integrated speaker.

  • [SOLVED] Pulseaudio, sound coming from both headphone and laptop speak

I switched to PulseAudio a while back, everything is working fine, except I can't find a way to get sound "only" in headphones.
"Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" has three Ports: 'Analog Output', 'Speakers' and 'headphones'. Choosing Speakers give no sound, and choosing Analog output and headphones gives sound from both headphones (if it's attached) and laptop speakers.
I have pavucontrol installed but can't find any option for it in it either. Any suggestions?

That code looks specific to that sound card, though I tried it anyways, by changing
    device=hw:M2496
    to
    device=hw:1
(where  1 is index of my card), but now I can't get any sound from my sound card. I have commented out those lines, removed .config/pulse, restarted pulseaudio, restarted laptop, but I still can't get any sound from that soundcard anymore.  (EDIT: Apparently sound was muted in Kmix (thought it wasn't in pavucontrol), don't know how that works, maybe I missed something, anyways, I am again getting sound, but everything else is same.)
And my original problem still remains.
I am assuming if I know the names of channels (for headphone and laptop speaker), I can create a new sink/source and use that to route the sound properply, but I can't figure out exactly how to do all that.
P.S: If anyone is looking at the link shared by emeres, it's moved to here

  • My right speaker sounds like blown only at the startup sound

I was recently cleaning up my macbook pro 15inch Intel Core 2 duo 2,4 Model macbookPro 5,1 and used onyx. After onyx finished its work it restarted the macbook and the right speaker sounded like blown. I played some music but the speaker was playing clear. I formatted the macbook and installed the same OS x but still the blown sound on startup remained. I upgraded to mountain lion but still the speakers sounds like blown only when computer starts up. I have cleanded the PRAM, PMU, fixed disk permissions but still is not going away. I am pretty sure is a problem of the software or something that onyx did to the system but have no idea what it is. anyone has an idea or something?
Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

  • Sound on left only (headphones)

Our MBAir has been fine, until today, now it plays only on the left speaker of our headphones - they're OK with our iMac, and System Preferences / Sound shows balance is set centrally - we tried a couple of restarts and replugged & wiggled the plug several times ... also opened & closed the socket flap many times ... eventually we got it to work OK, but maybe the problem will come again ... there was nothing I could see on discussions, so we might be the only ones with this issue ... a dodgy connection to the socket flap seems a possibility, but our MBAir hasn't been used all that much ... so wondered if anyone else has had this, and knows the cure ??

    Hi Christopher,
    Just to gain some clarification...
1.) The headphones work in all other products (sound out of both sides)?
2.) Have we tried multiple headphones?
3.) Any sign of anything obstructing the port (inside or outside)?
4.) Has the machine been dropped, mishandled, stored inappropriately that you're aware of?
Unfortunately, if the issue persists then the machine will require service. With that being said, it'll require repair through an Apple Authorized Service Center (if you want to insure your warranty remains intact).

Do you get sound from the speakers in any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not games/notifications ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

Your question seems a bit vague to me though. So can you actually inform us of what it is you are trying to do and give us examples with named kit.
