Only homepage in Safari opens but no other pages

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro with Mac OS X. Airport shows that I am connected to the Internet, but when I open Safari, only the homepage opens. Firefox won't open any pages. This problem just started three days ago; I am using the same network as before, my roommates have no trouble using the Internet, and I have tried different networks to connect to. I can connect to the Internet without a problem on my iPad, so I don't think it is a problem with the Internet. Any ideas of how to fix this?

I would try to enter the Network again and than try to ping maybe google or something?
Open terminal: enter ping www.google.com, the result look like this:
64 bytes from 74.125.39.147: icmp_seq=0 ttl=55 time=24.045 ms
to abort press crtl+c if there are shown timeouts then you have no connection to the internet.
Do you use Littlesnitch or any other Firewall? Disable them all and try again.

Ever since I've downloaded the latest software updates from Apple a few days ago, safari will open but not load pages 90% of the time. I have to force quit safari multiple times and try it again before it will finally open and load pages. what's up?

I am having the EXACT same problem. At first I thought my network had slowed down, and I was ready to switch to Cable from DSL to speed things up, but then I noticed that when I bring my work portable home and work on the same network, I don't have any problem--although it uses the same network. It's a Dell portable that uses Windows and I get the same speeeds I have gotten until recently on my Apple computers. I switched to Apple and bought a new computer for my daughter last year and one for myself this year to avoid the security problems with Windows XP, but now my service is so slow that even dial-up would be speedier and half of the time the page loads don't work at all. WHat's up with this? I tried Firefox, but it's really not much better after the first day.

Yep, same problem for me. Only started happening two days ago.

I don't think I've added any new addons recently. And it only happens in Firefox, not IE or Chrome. And bizarrely, like the poster above any BBC subdomains are fine, like bbc.co.uk/sport, or /news.
I'm on a Windows XP PC, running FF 3.6.8. Very odd issue and seems very few people are having it going by Google search. But bizarre that, for all of those that do have the problem, it happened on Tuesday.

Safari opens but crashes when loading any page

I recently upgraded to Safari 6.0 (7536.25) on Lion 10.7.4. Now Safari opens but crashes as soon as I try to load a page. I've tried most of the fixes that I could find in the recent posts:
different pages to be sure it isn't page specific
disabled all extensions
renamed the extension folder so it wouldn't be accessible (even though all were disabled)I noticed that Safari recreated the folder still with all extensions disabled but just in case I clicked the Off switch at the top of the Extension list
renamed cache.db to get a new one
renamed webpageicons.db
Reinstalled Safari from the link in one of the forum posts
Please help!

Why does Safari open with the last page viewed from the previous session rather than my homepage?

The only way I can get Safari to open to my homepage when starting a new session is to be sure to close all windows from the previous session before quitting Safari. If I don't go through this process, Safari opens to the last site I accessed before quitting. What am I missing?

I am having the same problem but in Mountain Lion the "System Preferences -> General -> Number of recent items -> UNTICK "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." option is not available. The only thing now is "Close windows when quitting an application." which I have ticked. Under recent items there is only a list of numbers.
This seems strange to me. Any ideas?

Safari opens but won't display window

I am having trouble with Safari opening and not displaying a window to browse in.

I am having this problem as well, but it only occurs when launching Safari using the "Open at login" feature.
Opening at login launches the app but not a new browser window. Standard launching of the app automatically opens a new browser window. Anyone got any ideas what's up?

All of a sudden, I try to open Safari -- the app shows in the title bar, but I get no page -- I've tried opening a second page, but nothing. When I quit, it reminds me that I have two pages open -- but all I see is my desktop. Any ideas???

Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and move the "cache.db" file to the Trash.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder then open the Caches folder then op the com.apple.Safari folder.
After you move the cache.db file to the Trash, relaunch Safari.

Is it a case of runaway blank tabs? One possible cause is if Firefox wants to download something but you instruct Firefox to handle it itself. This article describes how to clear that up: [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]].
If they are not blank tabs, do they look like some kind of advertising? You might have a bad add-on. These can slip into your computer as part of a bundle with other software, so I suggest starting here:
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.

Can edit home page but not other pages of website. Can anyone help?

I've just installed Contribute CS5 and tried some editing of my website. I found that I can only edit the home page. When I go to the other pages the draft that is created doesn't show my images and I also can't get into the page to do anything. On top of the draft page there is something like a small logo with the letters "php" and the curser stays there. Does anyone know why that is and what I can do to make it work? And if yes, can you explain it to me as if I was 3 years old, please. Thank you.

It is pretty easy but it should be considered more of a content management system rather than a basic web editor (even though that's what it does). For example, we have 25 content posters that use Contribute. They know basically nothing about building websites so we use Contribute so that they can do limited things on the site. But it still takes us using a different tool in the background to keep the site up and running.
The unfortunate news is, unless you know PHP language, your site will be a bear to work on. It's a scripting language so, much harder than HTML.
Your site really wouldn't be to hard to rebuild in HTML if you have some experience with building websites from scratch. If you know HTML, you can use one of many low-cost HTML editors out there. If not, you'll need to use a tool like Dreamweaver but even then, it helps to know HTML in case something goes wrong and you have to dig in and find the problem.
Your other option would be to hire someone to build a new site for you. This time, let them know you will be using Adobe Contribute to work on the site so that they can put it together properly.
Not sure why it was built in PHP to begin with.

I accidentaly dropped my keyboard, and it shrunk facebook but no other pages, how do i fix this??

my keyboard fell and a bunch of random buttons got hit, i was on Facebook at the time and it shrunk the page, i went to other pages and they were just fine, and i restarted my computer and nothing changed. how can i fix this?

Safari opens, but its blank. only when google website works.

After a virus that created pop up ads, I removed the virus but my web broswers dont work and websites become blank and dont work. My safari is ruined and I cant download anything. Which means I cant browse anything since my chrome browser was deleted. Here is an example of my problem Its blank! Only google would work but if I click on a website it is blank like this! I did use your adware removal script but for some reason, after that, I couldnt search anything, Safari was broken and the only 2 sites I can go on is google and sometimes youtube. I am talking to you by using a private browser from the app store and I cant download anything on it. When I use the script, there is nothing to remove my trash is clear and there is no problem. But what I did notice during my problem is that chrome is broken to. When I open it in the search box it says conduit and then random letters or something. I only have one tab open but when I close firefox I get the notification that I am about to close 5 tabs. I can not see these other tabs.

First it started out as just 1 extra tab. Then it was 3 and now it's 5 tabs. But there is only one tab open and I checked for pinning and an extra window open.

It's possible you have a second ''tab group''. This article describes the concept: [[Use Tab Groups to organize a lot of tabs]].
To work with the tab groups in the current window, press Ctrl+Shift+e or look for a menu button toward the far right end of the tab bar. If you find multiple tab groups, you should be able to drag all the tabs into a single group so you can work with that one group and see what is getting closed.
I don't use this feature myself, so if that doesn't work, hopefully another volunteer can provide a better set of steps.

Safari opens, but then freezes

When I open safari, I am able to open to my email homepage just fine, but if I try to create a new tab, click on new emails, or type into the web bar it freezes up and the spinning ball of doom appears for about 2 minutes or more. This is not just Safari that freezes up, but my entire computer. I can't activate the dock and a couple of times the clock stopped progressing. This all started happening very recently, within the past week, and it is really getting on my nerves. Do any of you know how to fix this? Oh, also I have deleted every bit of browsing history by resetting Safari and that didn't do anything.

Go step by step to test.
1. Power cycle
     Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
     Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
     It will take a   while.
     Restart the computer.
     Start up in Safe Mode

    Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
3. Reset Safari.

    From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
      Click "Reset".
4. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and all other website data:
     Press “Remove All Website Data” button
5. Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions
6. Remove all third party addons, plugins and anti-virus software
    Run EtreCheck to find out.

Safari launches, but no visible page opens

As of about 5 hours ago, Safari will no longer display an open web page under my user account settings. The app does launch, but nothing appears on the desktop, in spite of the fact that web pages appear to open [that is, when I quit the app I get the dialog 'Safari is about to close x number of pages--proceed?']. However, nothing is visible on the desktop. Safari continues to launch normally on other user accounts on this machine, and Firefox will run normally under my account. Suggestions?

I have the exact problem! In fact when this happens, and it just started this week, I can File Open New Window...then when nothing happens, and I Quit Safari, it will ask if I want to close 2 (or 3 or however many times I've tried to open a new window). Also, there was audio playing on a website last night and the audio continued, but the windows disappeared.. So, there is something that's making the window disappear, but not actually close the windows. Only a full Restart fixes this, and then it happens again.
(it may have something to do with a flash or other plugin, but I haven't been able to isolate this yet)
