If you're talking about the built-in speaker, there is only one.  The left one is the microphone (see image below).

  • Why does only my right speaker work?

I have had an Iphone 4 & a 4S. With both phones, only the right speaker works. Can anyone tell me why?

That's because the left "speaker" is actually a microphone. The right one is a speaker. Kind of weird... but there's nothing wrong. It's so you can talk on the phone

  • Powerbook G4 Right Speaker Not Working

Hello, i just recently purchased a very gently used Powerbook G4 15 inch, 1.67 Ghz, 2GB Ram, 80GB HDD, OS X 10.4.11. the computer performs phenomenally and overall feels like a brand new computer! however, the right speaker is not working. i understand this is the model with three speakers, left - middle (more proximal to the left speaker) - and right. when i try to slide the volume slider to the left the left most speaker makes sound, when i slide the volume slider to the right, the middle speaker only makes sound. im wondering if the powerbook is mistaking the middle speaker as the right speaker because it only shows two channels - 1 for left and 2 for right - but the "2" is only playing though the middle speaker. i hope theres an easy fix, something thats not hardware related. if it cant be easily fixed then it doesnt hurt me too much because the computer was only 50$

Attach headphones or exteranl speakers. Any sound probelms with those?
I'd start with resetting the NVRAM per this article:
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
Be aware that the note at the bottom of the page referring to an SMC reset only applies to Intel Macs, not PowerBooks.
You should also try a PMU reset:
    http://www.ehow.com/how_6787488_reset-pmu-g4-powerbook.html
I looked at some repair guides for 15-inch, 1.67 ghz powerbooks and don't see a reference to more than two speakers, even on the large 17-inch versions.

  • Sound from front right speaker not working, playing out of le

I have a Soundblaster X-Fi Fatalty and it'ss a little under year old with all current drivers. The front right speaker plays no sound but the front left speaker plays what is supposed to come out of the front right. I have it set on the 5. surround sound but it doesn?t work on any other settings. A week ago everything was working fine I have not installed anything new since then. I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or something set wrong on my computer. Does anyone have a solution or know what may be causing this? Also I checked the speakers, they work fine.Message Edited by Nowise0 on 0-04-2006 03:52 PM

I ghave this same problem with an XFi Elite pro card and a 5. speaker system. To get sound coming out all 5 correct speakers and subwoofer i have to select 7. speaker set up then 5., then 6. and finally 5. again then it works fine - I have to do the selection in THX from game consule mode to get it to work.

  • Right speaker stopped working suddenly

    Hi,
Last night I was listening to music with headphones and everything was working hunky-dory. But when I booted up this morning and tried to use headphones, there was very little sound coming from the right one. I unplugged them and listed closely and the right speaker on my iBook was working the same way. Is there any way to fix this without going to the Apple store or sending it in? Thanks!

Have you checked the balance in System Preferences>Sound under the Output tab?
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • MacBook Pro Right Speaker Stopped Working

    Hi,
I've had a 15.4" 2.4 Ghz MacBook Pro for about three weeks now, and I've been loving it. Everything's great, especially after switching from a 3.5 year old dell. About 3 days ago though, I was listening to music, and paused it when I went to grab a snack. I came back about 10 min. later and found that my right speaker was not working. No sound whatsoever. My left speaker is perfectly fine, no problems with that. I tested everything. I played with speaker balance, I changed and unchanged audio midi setup preferences, restarted, everything. Once when I restarted the speakers were fine, even the right one. But when I started playing music, I heard the right speaker die. I don't know what's wrong.
I plan on taking it to the Apple Store, but I just want to know whether something like this has happened to anyone else, and whether there's some sort of solution to this.
I have the AppleCare Protection plan, and am still under the 90 day warranty, so I think I should be fine. Thanks!

An intermittent problem like this sounds like a hardware failure to me. Could be a loose wire inside or a poor solder joint. Either way, taking it in to Apple is the right call.

  • Right speaker not working - MacBook Pro

Help. My right built-in speaker just stopped working. I ran the trouble shoot in Settings to ensure it was all set up correctly and it is. Any advice?

    Try a PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Is the right channel silent using ear phones?  You may have a faulty speaker or there is a software problem.  If the PRAM fails, the Apple store genius bar is the place to have the specific problem defined, and hopefully corrected.
    Ciao.

  • Audio only on right speaker

OK, I wasted an hour at the genius bar today and still haven't gotten a straight answer. When using iChat with the built-in camera and microphone, I noticed that I lose sound out of the left speaker. Is this right? Does the MacBook Pro shut off the left speaker because of its proximity to the built-in microphone or is my MacBook Pro in need of repairs?
Even the genius'es want to know.
    Thanks,
    Doug

Bit worrying that a "Genius" did not know this.
Skype does not do this and can suffer from Feedback.
Should work in iChat on all Laptops that have internal mics inside the speaker grill.

  • My right speaker stopped working?

The right side of my Macbook Air's speakers stopped working.
At first it started to make very loud vibrating sounds, and then it stopped completely. I went to settings and tested the sounds, the left side works fine but the right side would either not make ANY sounds or a little vibrating sound. I also tested Audio MIDI Setup. I reseted my computer multiple times but nothing seems to budge. (I have nothing plugged in)
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Try a PRAM reset.
If that does not fix it, you may need to take it in to the Apple Genius bar. It could be a hardware problem.
Is there a red light showing in the headphone plug-in port? If so you could try plugging the headphones in and out several times.

  • Tablet Z Right speaker not working

I have a Sony "Tablet Z" SGP 311, after I had the screen replaced it came back with one of the speakers not working, (it is possible that the fault started at the same time as the screen got broken). I took it back to the same company, they checked the speakers & the speaker ribbon cable, both of which are not faulty, unfortunately they don't have the ability to check beyond what they have checked already, what would be the most probable cause of my fault. The system was running Android 4.4 when the fault was first noticed, but is now running 5.01

Hi @don320 I suggest you to first run a backup of the device information like this: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Backup-amp-Transfer/m-p/407253#U407253 Then try performing a system repair using PC Companion: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiatabletz/tools/pc-companion/ I hope can be useful. I'm at disposal for any question. Best Regards,

Check please if Toshiba PC diagnostic tool is preinstalled on your notebook.
If yes start it and check hardware functionality.
I presume this tool will ends with the same result. On this virtual way we cannot say for sure right diagnostic but I presume the speaker is either defective or there is some problem with the speaker cable.
Good advice? Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • SL410 - One speaker stopped working - lcd hinge problem ?

SL410 here - I noticed the right speaker stopped working. It works intermittently if I press down on the left side of the lcd screen or the hinge. I believe the wires are being routed from that hinge (?). Audio out of the headphone jack works just fine.
Any ideas what might be going on ? Is this a known issue with a known fix ? Would it require major surgery to fix this ?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that right speaker of your Lenovo ThinkPad SL410 stopped working.
Since the headphones work fine and you hear intermittent audio while pressing the LCD/hinge, chances are that the wire that goes to the right speaker is probably loose or the speaker itself needs to be replaced.
Refer the hardware maintenance manual to understand how to remove the speaker assembly and check.
If your system is under warranty, I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
    Best Regards,
