Only numbers no names after switching to Iphone4S

I backed up my iphone 4 on iTunes and then restored my new iPhone4S from this backup. However, my Favorites under Contacts only come up as numbers and no names. My contact list is also missing a large portion of contacts. I've restored the iPhone4S to factory settings and tried restoring the backed up data from the old handset again but still no resolution. Vodafone said that there was an issue and it would take 48 hours for contacts to show up in full- anyone else experienced this problem?

Favorite contacts appear as only numbers, no names.

After iOS8 update, my iPhone 5's Favorites show only numbers, not names. They also do not appear in my Contacts list. All other Contacts appear as they should. I am able to call and message all my Contacts.

your post got me to thinkin - in fact I do have memory of having rxd some texts from ATT - these were inititated by them - and have even rxd spam texts from unknown sources- which ended up in the list as "numerical contacts"
I deleted those.....
Now as far as narrowing down - seems like there must be some link from the senders end between their "text name" and their associated number... which makes me wonder - what if they send u a text but don't bother to setup the "text name" stuff ? if they were a stranger on my radar I wouldn't have their contact info...
So perhaps it gets down to whether or not I initiated the conv
if I didn't - yet still put them into my Macbook Pro's Address Book
one might presume the iPhone's text app is smart enough to link that strange phone number to a contact

I have problem with my contact list. After i synchonised my previous N79 with N9, everything was fine. AFter adding new contacts to the new phone i wanted to synchronise it with ovi, i did so but it made completely mess with all my contacts. I cant say if i miss any numbers but it was way worse, it has mixed up names and numbers without any sence so I realised that under name A i had a phonecontact of B and C. At some names were suddenly no phone numbers. And some of them were even doubled - like there was the same number saved under both A and B but it belonged to C. I hate it, had to rewrite all the ontact list manually along the old phone. That took me hours if anyone can imagine. Now Im not brave enough to try the sync again eventhough i need to do that... Anyone having the same problem or even better - solution?

Try plugging your iPad into your computer and opening iTunes. Select your iPad underdevices on the left side of the screen and right click. You should be given an option torestore from a backup.
If this option is not available to you, you can go through the Summary tab of your iPad on the right side of the screen and if you scroll down under iCloud you should get an option to restore from a previous backup, where you select the most recent backup to put on your iPad.

Wrong names appear with correct phone numbers, WHY? This began after last Apple upgrade.

If you're talking about Contact entries, your contact data was corrupted during the update. Nothing at all to do with the update itself. If you have a good backup, restore it.

My caller id doesnt show the callers name after switching to verizon

Coming from an ATT 3GS, synced to itunes before activating my new verizon 4Gs. Synced up with itunes. My address book has all my contacts, but when I get an incoming call or text it only shows the number, not the name! This is extreeemely frustrating to say the least
it seems like if i put a 1- before the contacts number in my address book, it will help somewhat.
I've seen this question thrown around af ew places but have yet to find an answer

Call the *228 number on your iPhone
Then select option 1
Then force quit out of your phone, text, & contacts applications by double tapping on the home button then holding down a finger on the app until it starts to wiggle-click on the red and white minus signs
Then reopen the app and retry

I have seen this question, but no solution. All of the sudden, when i look at my contact favorites only numbers are displayed, with no names. For example my wifes number is there but not her name. Furthermore, in the contacts app, she is not there. However, if i try to compose a text and type her name in the to: field her name is there so clearly all that data is somewhere on the phone but not where it should be! What can i do?

If she's not in the contacts, then add her.
I remember making a contact for a guy name Derrick. After a few days I texted him, but it turned out I had one digit wrong. So I corrected it. Some time passed, I went to text him again. BUT both numbers came up in the start message box. Of course I forget which one was the correct number. But I Knew that I changed it in his contact info. Checked that, yup only one phone number.
It wasn't until iOS 7 that I could get rid of that wrong number. When I typed his name, in that list there was an circle with an i in the middle. I selected it and I was able to remove it from recently used. This is why when you type your wife's name, she comes up in the list. But not in your Contact app.

 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Region
From the Region menu in the window, select one of the preset regions. If one is already selected, choose a different one, then change it back. Close the preference pane and test.

Drop Down Box Choose A Name and Have only the first name show up

I am creating a form for health care.
I have a drop down box with names of Physicians... their full names so they can be easily identified. And then subsequent fields that will be populated based off of the choice. However What I need is that after the full name from the drop down list is selected than only the Dr's First name shows up in the box to be distributed through out the file. All the rest of the information is already in using this Java:

Duet makes noise after switching between finder audio and Logic

Hi
My Duet makes noise after switching between "finder audio" and "Logic", In other words i would play a mp3 in the finder and when returning to Logic all my audio sounds like the "lo-fi" RTAS free plug digidesign gives away now.
This is happening on a White *iMac 24"*

Does this happen every single time? The same thing happens to me every once in a while. I just close Logic and Maestro and unplug the Duet. Then, in this order, plug in the Duet, wait for it to click, load Maestro, load Logic. Works every time.
Edit: It does only seem to happen when I switch from Logic and the audio output from the Duet to internal and then come back quickly. I don't think it's an issue with the Duet hardware itself.

Disk permissions changed after switching off FileVault

I found my disk permissions changed after switching off FileVault, nearly everything belongs to "system" now.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me what permissions are standard for
-Desktop
-Applications
-System
-Libary

Assuming you're just talking about the Owner being System then:
The owner of Desktop should be your user name.
Applications and System should be System. Since these are not in your Home folder these permissions would have been corrected when you ran Repair Disk Permissions.
The Library folder depends on which Library folder you are talking about. If it's the Library folder that's in the same folder as System and Applications, then the Owner should be System, as well. Again, if that is not in your Home folder, then the permissions repair would have corrected it.
If, however, it's the Library that's in your Home folder, then it should have your username as the Owner.
Filevault only affects things that are in your Home folder so turning it on/off doesn't affect permissions anywhere else.

Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if that helps.
Check to see that the number you have listed in Contacts is the full number that is sent from Caller ID. The two have to match before the name is displayed.

Can't find my main iPhoto library after switching to another library. Where is it - its not in list of libraries

I can see the library of photos in Aperture so I know the photos are still there and still organized, but I'm unable to see them in iPhoto after switching to a different library, then trying to go back - where is that library? Its not listed. The desired iPhoto library was iPhoto 11, this one is only 9.6.

First: Locate it.
Right click on the word iPhoto in the Menu bar. This will show you the location of the Library:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from wherever it is to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

It's likely a hardware issue. The iOS will not directly cause this issue.

If the issue remains even after set up as new, it's a hardware problem, not a software problem. You'll need to contact Apple for you hardware service options. If within warranty it should be free. If not, expect to pay $149 USD + tax if it's an iPhone 4, $199 USD + tax if it's an iPhone 4S.

OS X partition becomes corrupt after switching from Bootcamp

So I've had to reinstall os x 10.9.1 no less than three times this week and multiple times before in the past after switching between os x and windows 8.1. This usually happens after I've been using windows for a prolonged period then switch back to os x but it happened today after reinstalling os x from a time machine backup just yesterday. I'll switch between the two and os x becomes corrupt and begins the loading bar sequence after selecting the os x partition via the refit boot manager. I tried repairing the partition using disk utility from the repair partition and an external installation of os x 10.9.1 but every time the disk becomes corrupt and needs to be wiped and reinstalled or install a time machine backup. I've lost count of how many times I've had to do this and to make things even worse both of my external disks have become corrupt after being disconnected for two days while I sort this mess out. Does anyone else have similar issues or can locate an issue somewhere?

Yeah I reinstalled osx 10.9.1 and installed all my apps, put everything back then used bootcamp to create a partition for windows then used wineclone to install my windows 8.1 backup. I jumped from windows > osx > windows > osx inside an hour to move around a few things and I forgot verify bootcamp after I installed the backup and that last time I booted to osx it was corrupted. I used disk utility from my external installation and the recovery partition and both times they need repaired which only came up with the backup and wipe notification window. There have been two occasions where I was able to fix the osx partition from my external osx installation and continue using osx quite perfectly but usually the partition becomes un-mountable after it fails to repair. Usually when this has happened the twenty something times before it's after a prolonged period of a few weeks using windows.
I'm using refit boot manager and paragon NTFS 11 which may be the only software I've installed that could be corrupting the boot.
