Only one earphone is emitting sound

Recently my iPod has only been sending music through the left earphone. I've tried this with a few different models, so I'm fairly confident it's not a earphone issue.
Is it a hardware problem or a software one? And is there an easy way to fix either?
Also I've done the reset, reinstall, etc stuff, that didn't help.

You could try restoring your iPod in iTunes, and see if that makes any difference.
For instructions on restoring, see this article:
Restoring your iPod to factory settings
If a restore doesn't help, it would probably be best to take your iPod to an Apple Store, or send it in for a replacement (if your iPod is still under warranty).

  • Why does only one earphone play sound whilst listening to music?

When i play music or what not, only one earphone you can hear from. The ipod is less than two months old and hasn't been dropped or anything!

    Have you tried other earphones?
Does the one pair work OK in other devices?
Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen or so time.
To rule out a software problem try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Sound in only one earphone - It's not the earphones though

I just bought a pair of refurbished 1st gen. shuffles from Apple in Nov. After a couple of weeks, one of the stopped plaing music through one side of the earphones. I thought I blew the earphone, so I grab another pair, same thing. Same thing with the 3rd pair.
So, for some reason, my shuffle is only playing audio via one earphone. Any ideas for a fix? No chance at a warrenty fix (I think).

  • Only one earphone works...earphones or iPod?

I got my iPod nano 4GB 2nd generation a couple of months ago and for about a month the Right earphone has stopped working or only works after I fiddle with the jack for a few minutes and even then it only works for a few seconds or minutes if I'm lucky. I tried a different pair of earphones (Panasonic) and still the same prolem in the right earbud. This makes me think it's the iPod and not the earphones. Will resetting the iPod fix this? Do I need to send it back to get fixed/replaced? I don't want to reset it unless I have to, just looking for some words of wisdom. Thanks

It should be easy enough for you to try another set of headphones... just to eliminate that problem. It sounds like there may be a problem with the headphone jack though... especially if moving the plug makes it work and not work. A reset won't likely fix that. Stop by your local Apple store (if you have one) and ask if they have a pair of earphones you can try out. You can complete an online service request for your Nano. Apple will ship you out a box to return yours and, in all likelihood, will send you back a new one. Just make sure the headphones aren't at fault first.

  • TS2771 only one earphone works in one of the ipods, both earphones work in other ipods. have i set something wrong

My earphones work in my itouch, shuffle, and other ipod. Have one ipod that sound only comes through one earbud.  Have I got a setting messed up
    somewhere on this particular ipod?

Is your iPod in warranty still?
I had this exact problem as well and I took the iPod to the Apple store. There are 2 connector things inside the headphone socket in the iPod which each control sound for 1 ear/speaker and they sold me one of mine had broken. They just gave me a brand new iPod right away AND increased my warranty by 30 days presumably so as to guarantee the new iPod as a non defect.

  • Help only one speaker gives out sound x

Hello folks,I am new to this forum malarky and could really use some help. I have the soundblaster x-fi sound card and use it on my home pc with the 7. surround speakers. I mainly use the PC for music creation. I haven't had any issues until recently. When i plug my headphones into the volume box, i am only hearing sound through the left headphone, this is now the case when using the speakers, all the sound is channel through one speaker. I thought i had maybe damaged my speakers somehow, but have run the tests and all speakers tested fine? I am so stuck and can not write using just the one speaker. TRhis is mega urgent folks so any advice would be massivly appreciated!?

My guess is that you have the track set to stereo which would work if you have two channels input and your recording stereo channel 1&2. Try setting it to mono.

  • Only One Earphone!!!

My ipod has suddenly decided to rebel. It will only play out of the left earphone. No it is not a problem with the headphones...i've tried on speakers and at least 4 different types of headphones. It is the ipod. Is there any way I can fix this? It is incredibly annoying to only jam in one side of my body. If it helps, when i pull the earphone out just a little it starts to play on both. BUT, it usually doesn't stay very snug for long.

If it is still in warranty you can take it to an Apple Store, if one is close to you, are go here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If it is not in warranty you need to take it to a 3rd party that works on iPods or do it yourself. Here are three sites you can try:
    http://www.ipodmods.com
    http://www.ifixipods.com
    http://www.iresq.com
Or you can look for something local.

One of the jacks is for audio in and the other is for audio out. Some select versions have an S/PD/F jack. Chances are the reason you are getting static is that if you plug an earphone into a microphone jack it will attempt to behave as a microphone. It will not operate properly.
So..a recap. There is only one earphone jack

  • Only one channel plays

I am only getting sound out of one channel of the ipod. I have tested this via the ear buds, but also by routing the sound to my stereo -- only one channel has any sound on it. Is there some setting or something simple that can be done to fix this?

i dont beieve there is anything you can do. but im not an expert, so take it into an apple store and ask someone for help.

  • Narration - sound in one earphone only

    Hello all,
Strange (and frustrating) audio problem, hoping someone can help.
When I import my pre-recorded monaural narration files (from files and folders), I can only hear it in one earphone, whether in the preview mode or in the rendered video. But, if I double-click on the file name in the media panel, which brings up a preview window, the audio is perfect in both ears when played there.  Also, if I create a new project, again import the pre-recorded narration in the standard manner (selected from files and folders), I properly hear it in both earphones. Very aggravating.
Could it be a settings situation in the project where it is not functioning properly?
I'm using PE 3 with XP.
Thanks for any help and suggestions.
    Charles

    Charles,
    Welcome to the forum.
Along with Steve's suggestion for Fill-Left, or Fill-Right, one can also duplicate that mono Clip, placing it on another mono Audio Track *. Then, they can go to Audio Mixer, and Pan one to the left, and the other to the right, to suit, to create a faux stereo. If necessary, one could even do the Pans Keyframed over time to move the signals across the stereo sound stage.
PrE does a mix-down to stereo (2-channel), with any output.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * Note: PrE will ONLY place mono (1-channel) Clips onto mono Audio Tracks, stereo (2-channel) Clips onto a stereo Audio Track, and 5.1 (6-channel) Clips onto a 5.1 Audio Track. Remember, PrE will mix-down 6-channel Clips to stereo on output.

  • Sound only plays through one earphone

hey i'm new here so bear with me if i make any mistakes.
recently my 30GB ipod video started playing sound only through one earphone, i tried several different pairs but the problem was the same. i took it to my local apple shop and they said it can't be fixed, but you could have it replaced for £109, i'm a student i don't have £109!
he said i could get a radio remote, something like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-MA070G-C-Radio-Remote/dp/B000MTEER4/ref=pdbbs_sr4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1200145716&sr=8-4
i wasn't prepared to spend that much so just got a standard remote control with no radio function, however i didn't realise that this had to be connected through the headphone socket! what's the cheapest and most convenient way i can get sound going through both my headphones again? can i get a standard remote that just goes through the adapter at the bottom?
    many thanks, jack

it could be just a bad contact
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
