Only opens to dos, cannot get to mac os x

hello,
I just purchased a mac book about a week ago and the past few days, when I turn on my computer, it goes to dos and will not load mac os x. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips and tried the first aid in disk utility, but the first aid will not actually run.
here is what is on my computer when I turn it on:

And just for the record, it's not DOS. DOS is a
Windows thing (wasn't it abandoned in the NT family?).
For the record DOS means Disk Operating System and it is not exclusivly a windows thing. One of the first 'Disk Operating Systems' for PCs was the Microsoft Disk Operating System or MS-DOS. However, MS-DOS showed up long before Windows came about. But hey, that probably does not help the op much to know that. I'd say the other post has the info she needs, boot from OS-X cd, repair HD and reinstall if needed.

Do you have your Mac backed up?
If not, you should use Time Machine to back up your Mac to an external hard drive just "in case".
But if all you did was change your existing ID, then deleting the Calendar infomation from the Mac when you sign out should not be an issue. Since it is the same Apple ID, it is the same iCloud account (just with a different name), so your Contacts, Calendars, etc. are stored in iCloud. When you sign back in, you will have the option to sync Contacts, Calendars, Notes, etc. with iCloud - it should already be checked. Just sign back in, and your iCloud info will re-download to your Mac.
I just tried this, and all of my stuff showed up when I signed back in. Notes took a couple of seconds to load once I opened them, but they are all there.
Note: If you are signing on with a brand new Apple ID, then nothing will be downloaded because it will be an entirely different iCloud account. But if it is the same Apple/iCloud/iTunes ID with just a new email, then it will all be restored.

I cannot get my Mac to recognize my Sony DCR-HC21?

I cannot get my Mac to recognize my Sony DCR-HC21. Running a 13inch Macbook Pro 13inch mid 2010 model with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
Things I have tried:
1. Trying 3 separate Firewire cables (also tried two USB cables even though I know they wouldn't work, just wanted to see if the Mac would recognize the camera that way, no dice)
2. Turning the camera on then opening iMovie '11 (running version 9.0.4.)
3. Opening iMovie first then turning on the camera
4. Turning the camera on then opening Final Cut Pro 7
5. Opening Final Cut open first then turning on the camera
6. Tried 2-6 once with USB Stream on, and once with USB Steam off (USB Stream is a function on the camera)
7. Restarted the Mac then tried again
8. Reset my PRAM and NVRAM then tried again, still no dice.
My camera is set to the "Play/Edit mode" where it's supposed to be and the camera recognizes that it's connected to the computer by showing a little "DV" icon in the upper right hand corner, but iMovie, Final Cut, and the Mac itself won't recognize it. I have searched all over the internet, tried everything every forum has said and still nothing. Can anyone please help me?

Sorry about the caps!! My coworker had 14 updates and was trying to do them all at once. So she unchecked some and started updating a few @ a time and it worked, but my other coworker only has two updates and it looks like its installing. Then after she restarts her computer the updates still show. We.re all working on MAC OS X 10.6.8. Do you have any suggestions?

Press your home button, then scroll the home screen all the way over to the right. I found all my purchased apps were moved to a different home screen. Might be a similar issue.. let us know what you found out!!

Did you purchased the Full Perpetual License from Adobe for $149.00?, if so then what has happened is that you probably downloaded the Creative Cloud trial version which has now expired.
The license key for the perpetual version will not be accepted to activate the CC version.
Uninstall the existing Lightroom and then download the one available from the link below. The uninstall process will not affect your Catalog, Preferences or personal files but will just remove the application. Install the new download and you license key will be accepted.

I cannot get my Mac Pro (Original) MacPro1,1 to boot with the 64 Bit kernel in 10.6.8 (this is a 2 x 3Dual-Core Intel Xeon machine).
Firmware = MP11.005C.B08 (EFI 1.2) 1.7f10 (SMC 1.1)
Will it not run the 64 bit kernel?
Is there a firmware upgrade to allow this?
Should I bother?
It won't boot with the Key 6 & 4 method.

Because it can't and doesn't have a 64-bit supported firmware.
UEFI (EFI64) was not finalized and adopted until very late 2007 and introduced in 2008, by Apple, Intel, other members of EFI Group and Unified EFI. The Mac Pro Mid-2010 was the first time though that 64-bit mode was the default.
Does it matter? not really. you can't install 48GB RAM anyway, while there are some improvements from 64-bit kernal.
Also can't boot Windows 7 64-bit DVD to install properly. But you can run Windows 64-bit kernel because you have a 64-bit Xeon.

Mini mac will not register my digital camera. It connected the first day and I was able to upload some video; however, I pulled the USB out--there was a bad message--and I cannot get the mac to register that I plug it back in.

Have you downloaded everything that is on the camera? If so format the SD card on the camera (will erase everything on the card).
If you have not downloaded everything can you see stuff on the camera? If you have a card reader you could try putting the SD card in that and trying on the mini. If your mini has a SD card slot you could try that.
In any case format the card on the camera before taking more pics.
Next time be sure to eject the camera from the Mac properly and turn the camera off before disconnecting.
EDIT: You might also check the camera's USB Mode is set to PC.

A Safe Mode boot may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Then see if you can get back to the login screen after logging off your account.
