Only part of a song?

My 60gb ipod will start playing a song and then skip onto another song at a random spot in it. The songs seem quite arbitrary as do the spots where they switch... for example I was able to play "Eriatarka" by The Mars Volta halfway through once before it skipped onto Cicatriz ESP, then I tried again and it played only about 20 seconds. There's no pattern to what songs are only being played part way.
Something like this happened on one of my previous ipods, but I don't know what I did to fix it.

These are the ‘standard’ fist steps to this (and many other) types of issue:
Try Resetting Your iPod to correct this problem. It may take several attempts.
If that does not solve the problem, then Restore Your iPod and put the music back on your iPod, from iTunes.

  • Can I burn only part of a song

Is it possible to burn only part of a song and put only the edited portion onto a CD? Please let me know - thank you!

Go to Get Info for the song and then select the Option tab. There you can specify a different start and/or stop time. Once that's done, when you burn the song to a CD it will be "trimmed" according to your settings.
In addition to this working for CD burning, it also works for making a digital copy of the song without burning to CD. Once you set the start/stop time, select "Convert Selection to (whatever your current import format is set to)".

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • HT201272 Only part of a song downloaded from itunes store

Only part of a song (the first 12 seconds) downloaded and I nothing in my download list.  How can i download the entire song?

    Hey AMumey,
That definitely sounds frustrating. I agree that this song may have not downloaded completely. See the following article:
Songs in iTunes may not play back completely
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4357
    Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
    2. Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
    3. Download your previously purchased song from this list.
Note: iTunes in the Cloud, which allows you to download previously purchased songs from the iTunes Store, is not available in every country. Learn if iTunes in the Cloud is offered in your country
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HT1725 What do I do if only part of a song I purchased actually downloaded successfully and itunes is saying it downloaded successfully?

What do I do if only part of a song I purchased actually downloaded successfully and itunes is saying it downloaded successfully?
The song is supposed to last for 2mins 46sec but it cuts out less than a min in to the song.
There is no notification that the download was unsuccessful or incomplete and the 'search for available downloads' option comes back that all songs are downloaded.
What can I do without having to purchase the song again?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) have you tried deleting it from your iTunes library and redownloading it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes ? If it's still in your iTunes library then iTunes will assume that it doesn't need re-downloading. Re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • Only parts of my songs from itunes match are downloading onto my phone.  The full song plays fine on computer but not on iphone

I recently purchased Itunes match to download some of the songs from my library onto my phone.  Everything downloaded fine.  At least I thought, until I tried to listen to my music on my phone.  I found that some of the songs that were downloaded from the itunes match are not fully there.  The full song plays fine on my computer, however on my phone it will only play a part of the song and then immediately cut off and skip to the next song, while the display still says the other song should be playing.  I tried turning off the itunes match and just re-synching the music from my computer itunes library to my phone but still encounerted the same problem.  Is there an easier way of fixing this, or do I have to basically restore my whole phone?

Did you let the scan in iTunes finish before you enabled the service on the iPhone? If not you need to. Disable iTM on the iPhone, then launch the Music app and let the content clear out. Once the scan is complete in iTunes re-enable iTM on the iPhone.

  • Using only part of a song in iMovie?

I've been using iMovie for a while and it's great but one thing I haven't been able to figure out yet is an easy way to use just a portion of a song.
I want to use about six or seven different songs in my iMovie project, but only use certain parts of those songs (a 20 second portion in the middle of the song for example). I don't see any way to "trim" audio like you can with video or to specify to iMovie "only play from 1:20 to 1:50 in this audio track".
What I have been doing is cutting the portion of the song in QuickTime Player 7 and exporting as a new MP3, but there's gotta be an easier way than that I hope?

Good Tutorial for how Audio works for iMovie 08 is [here.|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips]
The same principle applies for iMovie 11.

  • Can I transpose only part of a song?

I need to lower the key of a song that's part of a medley. The first two parts are fine, so I don't need to lower the whole thing. Is there a way that I can just lower part of the song?

You have to think of three different levels where you apply transposition
    1) MIDI Event
You can just transpose individual MIDI Events bu dragging them up or down
    2) Region
Select one or multiple Regions and use the Transpose Slider in the Inspector of the Audio or MIDI Editor. The Region Header in the Workspace (Tracks Area) will indicate  the transpose number with a number (see the screenshot)
    3) All Tracks
Apply Transposition to all Tracks with the Transposition Track by setting up the Transposition Curve, the section along the timeline that is transposed.
One important thing to keep in mind is that specific Regions (imported Audio FIles or Audio Files with Flex disabled) ignore the Transpose command and can't be transposed that way.
You can find more on all those transpose topics with a detailed explanation of the Flex Mode in my book "GarageBand X - How it Works"
In this screenshot, I transposed the Audio Region (+2) and the MIDI Region (+4). In addition I setup the Tranposition curve to transpose the Verse by +5 semitones and then go down -2 (not that this would make any sense musically).
    Hope that helps

  • Saving only part of a song

On the Damien Rice album "O", there is a song called "Silent Night" on track 10 that starts (after a long silence) after 14 minutes and 8 seconds; how can I only save this last, small portion of the song in my iTunes library?

You can utilize a feature of iTunes to break of the track into two tracks. First, switch your encoding preference in iTunes to AIFF so you start with the best quality import. Now import track 10. Then switch your encoding preference back to MP3 or whatever it is you used.
Now go to the track and as Zevoneer pointed out, you can set the start and stop times of the song. Set these to frame the first song (assuming you want to keep it) cutting off all that silence and Silent Night. Finish that and close the Get Info box. Now right click the song and you should see an option for Convert To MP3 (or AAC or whatever your current encoding method is). Pick that and iTunes will now make a new track (a copy) but it will only be the part you specified, the first part. Now go back to the original AIFF, do a get info again and this time pick the Silent Night part of it. Repeat. You have now created two new tracks, each only the part you want. You can delete the big AIFF track if you want.
You don't have to be in AIFF format initially by the way. You can do this to a large MP3 or AAC file, but rather than re-compress and re-encode an already encoded song and possibly degrade the sound, start with an AIFF.

  • Why did only part of a song downloaded play?

I purchased two different songs that are both causing the same problem. They were both purchased as part of an album and also under the title 'Complete My Album'. One song for example is 4:35 long but if I play it, it only plays the first 20seconds. Could someone suggest a way to fix this because it is highly frustrating and unfair having paid the price for the full song but in return not being able to listen to these songs was a waste of money.

Does the track play correctly with another media player?  If it does then it is an iTunes issue.  If it doesn't then it is possible the file was not completely downloaded, or is corrupt.  If you believe it is corrupt:
If you are in a country where re-downloading is possible (iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085), delete the track (and the original file) and download again (Downloading [using iOS or computer] past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).  See tips on downloading in https://discussions.apple.com/message/19097773, especially unchecking the "Allow Simultaneous Downloads" box in the downloads tab of iTunes.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

This is the exact same thing that is happening to me, on BOTH of my iPods, on the same songs.
Did you find a solution? I have not found one yet. I am going to try a completely reformat the iPods, but not sure that will work.
I think it's an iTunes issue.
