Only part of my click box works

I've created a file using Captivate 3. This file contains a
number of click boxes. Most of them work just fine. However, on one
slide I have a click box, and only part of it works. When I publish
the file, my cursor turns to a hand when I mouse over the click
box. However, I can only click on about half of the area that is
supposed to be a click box.
I've tried:
-Deleting and recreating the click box.
-Copying and pasting a click box that works onto the slide
that doesn't work
-Deleting the slide and recreating the slide.
However, none of these things seem to be working. Has anyone
else experienced this? Any work arounds?

I tried recreating your issue even with multiple clickboxes
at various points on the timeline, and I cannot recreate it. Even
if the 1st clickbox is the dead last layer with many objects above
it, I can still get a hand and click all of it.
The only thing I can think of is if you have imported a .swf
that may have some script that is interfering, but you do not
mention that you have done so.
As a really goofy work-around, perhaps double the size of the
clickbox to see if "half" of it will land it in your target
range.

  • Can I have an action occur only after a button / click box is clicked and held for three seconds?

Within Captivate, I am trying to simulate touching and holding a button for three seconds on a touch pad to get a second window to come up.  I have an image of the touchpad and an image of the second window.  Now I have to set up the interaction.  Is it possible for me to have an image "show" -- in this case, the second window -  only after a click box or button is held for three (or more) seconds?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi TLCMediaDesign,
That sounds very interesting and I would like to learn how to do it. I just read Common JS interface and I know how to manipulate the output at runtime using the JS console, but that is all I really know how to do...
To understand your answer, I had to make a few assumptions.  When you say JS "post publishing", you mean going into one of the JS files that get published with the project such as standard.js and manipulating that.  Is that correct?
My second question has to do with the event listener.  I have some experience with JS in the past and manipulating HTML elements, for example.  How do I find a particular button, or any Captivate object in the JS?  HTML elements always have IDs and classes...
    Thanks for any help..

  • Using Advanced Actions to Make a button appear only after three other click boxes have been clicked.

I'm working on an interactive brief, and I'm making slides where the user has to click the correct items and then a "Contine" or "Next" button appears so they can move to the next slide.  Any help out there?  I have been using Captivete but I do not have a lot of experience withthe Advanced Actions.  I'm sure this is a pretty simple solution for all you captivate Wizards out there.
    I'm using Captivate 5.5.
    Thanks for any help!
    heymattmann

    Hi Matt,
Can you post some pictures of the Advanced Actions you're trying to use that aren't working? It might give people some ideas of specific ways to help you. It can be a bit frustrating to start out, since there's not a lot out there in Adobe's official stuff for Adobe Actions, but Lilybiri's blog really is a great resource.
Others might do this differently, but for your scenario, I would create 3 similar Advanced Actions, each one assigned to execute On Success for a clickbox, and three Variables to keep track of whether or not the user has clicked a particular box. There's also your next button, which starts out hidden. Make sure to name it something like NextButton so you can find it easily in the dropdown box when making your Advanced Actions.
So I might name the actions and variables: actionClickBox1, actionClickBox2, actionClickBox3, and varClickBox1, varClickBox2, varClickBox3 (when you create the variables, set their default values to 0). You can call them whatever you want, just don't reuse names anywhere else-- you will run into problems.
The idea behind the actions is that each time the user clicks a box, you change the variable for that box to keep track of the fact that it has been clicked. That part you were on the right track for. The next part of the action then checks to see if all the clickboxes have been clicked (aka, if all the variables have been changed from their original values to the new one). If they are, it shows a next button. If not, it does nothing.
From what you said, I think you were trying to add an Advanced Action to show the next button to the next button itself. This would only execute when the user clicks that button, which makes it impossible-- you'd have to click the next button in order to show the button so that you can click it... oh dear. The decision of whether or not to show the next button needs to be part of the clickbox actions, so that upon clicking the third and final box, the next button will pop up. Because it makes this decision (to show or not to show) on each clickbox, the order you click them in doesn't matter. It will only show the next button once all the variables have been changed.
You will see that the actions are all very similar, except for the variable that they change:
    actionClickBox1
first tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 0 <-- default value of variables must be 0
         then assign varClickBox1 with 1
second tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox2 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox3 is equal to 1
         then show NextButton
    actionClickBox2
first tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox2 is equal to 0
         then assign varClickBox2 with 1
second tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox2 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox3 is equal to 1
         then show NextButton
    actionClickBox3
first tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox3 is equal to 0
         then assign varClickBox3 with 1
second tab in the conditional action:
if varClickBox1 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox2 is equal to 1 AND
if varClickBox3 is equal to 1
         then show NextButton
Hint: If you set up one of these actions and save it, you can click a button in the top right hand corner to duplicate it and then just change the few things that are different to make the next action. It saves you from having to create it three times from scratch!
Wow, this is long... I hope it isn't overwhelming in its length, and that it helps! Advanced Actions really are a cool feature once you get past their quirks...

  • Change of emails has caused only Part of I Cloud to work?

I have had to change my email.   As a result ICloud does show active on the new email but seems to be hampered by the old email not allowing full usage.  Error messages :  "Mac cannot connect to Icloud because of email (old email) issue"    Hopefully there is someone that can provide assistance.   Thank you.

Appreciate your, assistance and sorry for me not being more clear.  My sign on to the Apple was my old email with a password.    Because of a situation-- I had to get a new email and therefore also changed my sign on with a new password to Apple.   The new signon (email) is working with the new pass word.   Except-- when I go to the Icloud.   It asks me to sign' on , which I can't--- because it references to , the old sign 'on information. Obviously the old sign'on would not work anymore, eventhough I have tried to see if it was possbile.   Some how the old information on the password and sign on stayed in the   ICLOUD  system and wasn't fully removed when I made the transition to the new password and sign.   Therefore using the cloud has become an issue .   Hope my explaination is clearer.  Thank you again for your time.

  • 3 click boxes one slide - each to jump to different slide - none working !

    Captivate v5.5
I am trying to set up Branching and have create one slide with 3 options. Each option has a click box and set to Jump to slide X, Y Z.
Tried everything but none of them are working. Nothing happens.
Could there be a conflict when there is more than one click box on same slide ?
    Noel

    Lilybiri,
    Think I have resolved it.
I created my 3 click boxes on my branching slide and started preview from the branching slide with F8 - nothing worked.
I went back to one slide before my branching slide, started the F8 from there and when I got to the  branching slide all 3 click boxes worked and jumped to their correct slides!
Not sure why starting from previous slide would fix it - but it seems to be working - at least via F8.

  • Multiple click boxes in the same page

I'm trying to include 4 click boxes in the same page in Captivate 5. The idea is when user clicks on each box, the content reveals and stays on the screen. The first click box works fine. But when click the second box, the content shows only for less than a second and then quickly moves to the next screen, and of course, there is no chance to even get to the 3rd and the 4th one. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

    Hi Lilybiri,
Does this mean that the user has to click the click boxes in the order that you stagger the pauses? For example, if I'm showing a picture and instructing the user to click on any area to get more information, they could really click on any area first - however will that click box pop up if that click area was not the "first" pause in my timeline?
Also, how do I get the "success" caption text to stay on the page? I don't want it to fade so that the user can see all of the info. once they've clicked each box. I've checked to make sure that the "fade out" option is off, and I'm assuming I can't have the click boxes "display for the rest of the slide" since that would ruin the pause increments.
    Thanks!

  • Flash file, clicks not working in one environment

    Hi everyone,
I have produced files using Captivate 2, that have output as .exe. These work perfectly across all of our sites, except one.
The only issue with the site where the files are not working is:
    - Click box within the Flash file do not progress to the next page
I have output with 'Playback control' and the users at the site in question are able to progress through along the Playback bar. However, I only placed this in for the purposes of testing the file. The final files need to not have the 'Playback control'.
Does anyone know what I can do differently, to ensure the click boxes work on this site in question?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Ravi Sandhu

    Hi Ravi
I'm not sure I fully understand your question. You seem to be saying a Click Box isn't working. But you say the "Click Box within the Flash File". I'm not sure if this means you have used Flash to create a button or something that you are trying to use with Captivate or if you simply mean that you have used Captivate to create a SWF, and inside that SWF the Click Box doesn't seem to work.
What would be helpful is if we could see the project first hand. Are you able to post the .CP file for us to download and view? If that's not possible, what about posting a screen capture of the slide with the issue where we can see the entire timeline and all objects.

  • Click Box-Opening a Secure Link?

Having some difficulty getting a click box to open a link to
a secure web page on an internal network. Scenario:
    1) Click box entered using an HTTPS link that accesses an
    internal tool used by employees.
    2) Requires the employee to be logged in to the tool to work.
    That's ok.
    3) Link is set to open in a new window; open URL/File.
    4) Click box works in PREVIEW mode, does not work when
    launching the published file.
    Any ideas?
    Chuck

    Hello again
I'm assuming you mean "Preview mode" to mean that you are
previewing from inside Captivate. Is that a correct assumption? If
so, it's quite common to see things behave differently as you
aren't truly operating as the end user will see things.
If you preview in the web browser you are actually seeing a
temporarily compiled version of the file and it should behave
identically to the way it will after you publish it. In this mode
as well as after you publish, the files are actually being executed
off your local hard drive. And from the Flash Player perspective,
that's a dangerous area so it restricts things until you pat it on
the head and assure it the world won't end if it allows the
    linking.
When you adjust the security settings, you are advising the
Flash Player that the location you nominate is "safe" to execute
    content from.
Does that make sense? Hope so... Rick

  • Click boxes (alternatives or show a border around them?)

    Regarding insert\standard objects\click box:
Currently I don't know of a simpler (in terms of efforts/steps involved) way to create 'slide-over' or 'pop-up' boxes or hyperlinks.
The only caveat to using click boxes is that you cannot color them or automatically include a box around them.
Just so there is no mistake, click boxes include a text box, which automatically appears when the mouse is rolled over the active area. On the other hand, roll-over slidelets allow colors and borders, however, they do not include a pop-up text box. A text box can be added but that requires additional effort.... which ultimately slows down development.
    Thanks

    Ahhh okay. Gotcha
This is where you would want to use a Button. Note that there are three types of Buttons. You choose the type in the Button properties. You may use an Image Button where you specify three different images to use. A Text Button, where you simply supply the Text to use. And the last type I personally never use. But in this case it sounds like you may want it. The Transparent button.

  • How can a click box support CTRL/SHIFT/ALT in Captivate?

    Hi all,
How can a click box support CTRL/SHIFT/ALT in Captivate ?
i.e., It can support click, double click, and right click, can it support "CTRL/SHIFT/ALT" when clicking?
I need this feature because some user operation requires this.
        We're using Captivate 5.
Could anybody give me some suggestion?  Tahnks.
    Joseph

Although you can add Ctrl, Alt and Shift shortcuts to click boxes, they may or may not work, depending on the context where the presentation is running.
The following comments relate to Captivate 5 presentations.
If you publish the presentation as an exe file, Shift and Ctrl click boxes will work, but not Alt click boxes. Right-clicks won't be detected, either.
If you publish as htm + swf for viewing in a browser, you can avoid the right-click problem, but which  shortcuts get detected depends on which browser is being used.
I have tested Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari, with the following results:
Alt: No browser passes Alt shortcuts through to the Flash player. If the Alt shortcut is meaningful to the browser itself, that's what happens (e.g., Alt+T will display the Tools menu in Internet Explorer; otherwise nothing happens). Note: Alt click boxes work when you test the presentation in an F8 preview window, but they don't work when the presentation has been published, so the F8 preview is misleading.
Ctrl: All except Internet Explorer pass all Ctrl shortcuts to the Flash Player, so they are generally safe to use if you can ensure the user will not view the presentation in IE. IE keeps most Ctrl shortcuts for itself, but there are a few (e.g., Ctrl+G) that IE passes to Flash, so you can use Ctrl+G freely, knowing it will work in every browser. Ctrl+M and Ctrl+U are two others
Shift: All, including Internet Explorer pass Shift shortcuts to the Flash Player. I have sometimes therefore set up a simulation with click boxes that look for a Shift+ shortcut key instead of Alt+, and included an apologetic prompt to tell the user to do so.
It's a mess! It is essential to test your simulation in whatever environments it will be used in, and adapt it if some shortcut you really want to use doesn't work.

  • Ipod mini click wheel works only when charging

my ipod mini click wheel will only work 100% when it is charging and is recognized by itunes. if a computer does not have itunes it will not work properly and also when it is not charging and i am just using it normally it wont work either. when it is not working right this is what it does: only the forward and play/pause and select work on the click wheel. cant adjust volume or go back to menu. but when charging and in itunes that click wheel works perfect!?!
can anyone help me figure this one out?
Also, the battery is really weak, it will only run for about 1hr on full charge. i dont know if that will affect it but if it does please let me know.
    Thanks

Mine does the same, I can get it to work by taking off the bottom plastic part of the Ipod Mini and pulling the metal thing out a bit.

  • Click boxes cease working in Cap 3 project

Both in preview and in the published file, my click boxes no
longer work. They used to, but stopped and I'm pulling my hair out
trying to get them to work again. What happens is that I click on
them, and the action that is supposed to happen does not. This is
true regardless of browser (and, as I noted, they don't work in
    preview either).
I have only four that are on the last slide of my project.
Two of them are "Play Again" (supposed to jump to slide 1) and
"Close" (lets slide continue to end of project where I have project
designated to close). The other two are click boxes that are set to
    "send email to".
So far I've recreated them, I've created them in another
project where they do work and imported them, and I've deleted the
slide and recreated the slide from scratch.
It seems to be something with the project that is making any
    click box non-functional.
Anyone have any experience with this?

    Hi Neophyte30
One thing you may wish to examine is in the errant project,
what is the action assigned to the Click Box object? It's possible
that something caused the action to change from what it once was to
    "No Action".

  • Captivate 7 - Multiple Click Boxes not working

I would really appreciate some help on this. I've been reading the forums and it looks like this pops up again and again. I've tried some of the solutions, but I can't seem to make it work.
I have a slide with 8 click boxes on it. I would like for the user to click on box and then get a definition in the form of a text box. I'd like for them to be able to click on 1 box or all the boxes before they move on. I'd like for them to choose to move on with a "Continue" button that goes to the next slide.
On the preview playback, only 3 or 4 of the click boxes will work. Then, the click boxes stop working. It's not the same 3 or 4 boxes, but just the first ones that work. If I remove a pause on the continue button, it will work. Otherwise, it stops as well.
Initially, I tried to do this as a simple action. Then, I read that Advanced Actions will allow the playback to continue. The Advanced Action is 1 line that is Show and then the Text Box.
Below is my timeline. I'd appreciate help with this!

Did you see this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5826235#5826235 ?
What is the function of the Buttons on that slide (they have no pausing, are active all the time): especially the Last Attempt action?
What is the Last Attempt action for the click boxes?
    Important: how did you preview?

  • Captivate 3 - click boxes not working when published

I have a fairly large Captivate 3 file (131 MB .cp, 77 slides, most w/ audio) that I received from a vendor and am making some final edits. When I preview "next 5 slides" everything works great. When I publish though, the click boxes aren't working. I hear the click sound, but the action (continue, jump to slide, etc) does not occur. My gut feeling is that the file is fairly large and certain functions aren't being properly published.  I have done all I know to reduce the size of both the .cp and published files (image quality, audio quality, deleting unused items, remove Adobe Connect features, resave w/ new name, etc).
Anyone know a potential cause and solution?

    Hi there,
I have seen many instances when click boxes won't work. In this first instance I would suggest thatyou try removing the click box on one of the slides, insert a new one, publish and see if this makes any difference.
If, not then try copying all of your slides from the existing project to a new file. If one of the slides does not copy across it might be that some part of the original project has become corrupted.
In most cases I have found that removing the original interactive object: Click box, Text Entry Box etc and manually replacing this with a new one tends to address this issue.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Several click boxes on screen but only one failure caption appearing

    Hi,
I'm using Captivate 6 and I have 3 click boxes on one slide. I have set each click box to have a Failure caption however, only the failure caption of the click box in the top position of the timeline appears in the course.
Ideally I want all 3 captions to appear at once if the user fails to click in any of the correct areas.
Do anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Liam

    Hi Liam
One way I can fathom would be to create a blank slide. Insert three text captions that present the text you wish to see and arrange them so they "work" aesthetically. Then preview the project and screen capture. Then configure the background as transparent and save the image. Use this image as the Failure caption for that top level Click Box object.
