Only portion of iTunes library visible on AppleTV via HomeShare

Using up to date versions of iTunes for Windows (running on Windows 8.1 64 bit), Airport Time Capsule, and current Apple TV. Even though Apple TV can connect to Media Library via Home Sharing, only portion of my library is displayed. I have restarted the Apple TV, Router, Modem, and Computer, nothing seems to force the library to be refreshed with the missing content, though the items that are listed play fine. Also tried logging out of and back into home sharing but no joy. Is there a firewall setting that I am missing, not sure what the problem is since it was working a couple of weeks ago, thank you in advance for reading this.

I have about 1000 albums in my iTunes library, which I access successfully from two different computers using iTunes Match. But despite the fact that my Settings in my iPhone5 are to have "iTunes Match" on and "Show All Music" on, only 367 of these albums are visible through the Music app on my iPhone. I can download from the Cloud only those 367 CDs. It seems that any recent additions to my iTunes Match library are not visible on my iPhone Music app. What gives?

From what I can tell this is a bug.
A very Frustrating bug. When the take 2 update launched I was streaming movies via "shared movies" from my synched computer without any issues. However after a couple of recent iTunes updates all the "shared" menus stopped appearing and I can no longer stream anything from my main computer.
When I open up my macbook though everything streams fine, all the "shared" menus immediately appear.
Numerous restarts, factory resets and reinstalling the 2.0 software have done nothing to help this issue.
If anyone has any more light on the subject it'd be great to hear. Also I'm not sure which update broke it because I went about a month not using the apple tv.

When the drive is connected, use the Organize Library command in iTunes. If the entire library is located there, drag it to the internal drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

How to transfer only part of iTunes library?

I have over 80GB of music (mainly classical) in my iTunes library and I am using it with my iPod classic. I am planning to buy now a new 16GB iPod nano and my question is how I can transfer only selected pieces of music (all library will not fit anyway)and how to maintain transfer process in future when I want to change the music on my nano.

in fact, it's boring defining playlists, so I use a trick : in itunes, just use a new field (like "comments") to tag specific songs (type "nn" for newnano). Then create for exemple a smart playlist "nano 80's" with the caracteristics : year is between 1980 and 1990, comments contains "nn". and another playlist "new added songs" = songs added during the last 3 months, and comments contains "nn"...!
This looks boring but it is very efficient to manage multiple playlists, multiples ipods, with only one new tag on itunes.
you just have to sync your smart playlists.

Only minority of Itunes Library has been put on Itunes match.

I've just downloaded Itunes Match for my Mac, Iphone 4 and Ipad, and have it turned on on all devices, however only a small minority of my Library has gone to the Cloud, whereas preferably I'd like all of it due to limited space! Any ideas?

Availability of your music on your iOS devices is not instantaneous.
You need to let match complete its scan of your iTunes library. This may take some time depending on the size of your library and the number of tracks that need to be uploaded.

Way to load only part of iTunes library? way to create 'reserve' library on external hd?

My large iTunes library is slowing down the computer, and opening and closing iTunes takes a long time.
a) can the library be set up so that it only accesses certain folders when you open iTunes?
b) even better, can you create a kind of reserve iTunes library on an external hard drive, for less listened-to material, which you can connect to access both libraries or to transfer from one to the other, freeing up space and speeding up the computer?
I have tried without success to work out if this can be done, so apologies if there's a really simply answer.

Fewer playlists, particularly smart ones and playlist folders, will improve the performance of the library. To free up space on the internal drive you can move the whole library to an external drive, then hold down option as you start iTunes to connect to it. Either way you should keep a backup.

Video plays properly in iTunes but not on AppleTV via Airplay

I converted a few AVI files to MOV using Quicktime X and then imported the file into iTunes. The videos play just fine in iTunes, but they cannot be played on my AppleTV via Airplay. All the videos appear to load onto the AppleTV (control/play bar at bottom of screen appears), but one video does not play at all and the others only play audio. Again, they all play perfectly in iTunes.

Try Using Handbrake (free) to transcode to M4v or mpg4 files....... thay are supported by ATV2 nand will appear fine. .avi is an old compression scheme and is not suppoted on ATV2

External drive for iTunes library and backing up via time machine

Hi, I currently have an 320gb external drive plugged into usb port of my imac for time machine back up, but my itunes library is 500gb and currently excluded from time machine back up, I would like to buy a 2 or 3tb external drive and then move my itunes library to that to free space on my imac.
I'd really like to know the best way to set up and what to buy, ie, if i move the library to an external drive am I able to back up the external drive via time machine, plus I assume if I do this i need a second external drive or time capsule to back up the library
Also the external drive is plugged directly into imac but I have an airport extreme is there any benefit plugging the drive into this, would this mean you access file from network (should you do this if its used for time machine), should I get rid of the extreme and buy a time capsule

Just got an imac and am trying to transfer itunes library from Dell pc via home share method. All goes well but directions say to click the import button. I don't see an import button anywhere. If I close itunes on pc it also disappears from imac.

check the lower right corner of the iTunes window
if you don't see this while the homeshared library is loaded, home sharing hasn't been set up properly.

Portion of itunes library on external drive

Hello,
I have a 100 GB hard drive on my windows laptop. I have a 300 GB HD externally. I have an ipad2 and iphone.
I would like to move my movies, apps, and photo libraries to my external HD. If I do this, will I have to have my external drive connected?
I do not intend to watch my movies via my laptop or phone. I do not intend to (or can't) look at my photos in itunes on my laptop; and I can't do anything with apps in on my laptop. So, for those 3 categories, I will only access them via my ipad or iphone.
Can I do this easily? I really need to free up space on my laptop and don't want to have to store everything on my laptop just so I can use my mobile devices to access.
Please advise.

My script ConsolidateByMoving can be used to move media to an alternate media folder as well its original purpose of doing the reverse. Use it to relocate larger/unused files to your external drive. Select the files you want to move, then chose the target folder, e.g. <External>\iTunes\iTunes Media. You'll need the drive connected if any of the connent you are syncing is on that drive. I always sync all categories of content but it might be possible to manage the apps independently so that iTunes won't complain if they are not connected. Then again iTunes might start copying apps back onto your local drive in an effort to automatically backup purchases.

I can see the movies from my computer on Apple TV but I can not seem to get the movies from Apple TV shared/uploaded to my computer. Can someone please help me out on this? Thank you

After recent updates, my iTunes library is no longer visible on my AppleTV Home Sharing

I've updated to the most recent versions of Lion and the AppleTV, however, after the updates, I can no longer connect to my iTunes library on my AppleTV. I've resetted both my computer (MacBook Pro) and my AppleTV, however, still no connections.

I love computers.
Have managed to fix this already. Been working the issue for a few days now, and a few minutes after writing the above post I decided to reset the Time Capsule to factory default settings.
After entering all my details again (used same network names, passwords etc) the Time Capsule was rebooted. When it came back on line - guess what? Yep, the MyBook WD drive is now visibile. I can connect via the network from my other machines to the drive, and iTunes is back.
So - thought I would post my resolution in case it helps others.

My AppleTV won't connect to iTunes library after RDP session

I use a computer to hosts a few different services. First, the computer acts as my media server. iTunes has all of my media loaded up and my AppleTVs connect to it to stream media. I also use this machine to host remote desktop sessions when I am away from home. It appears that after an RDP session, I am unable to connect to the iTunes library using my AppleTVs. I need to restart iTunes to get connectivity back.
Has anyone had any prior experience with this or have any suggestions for a fix?

I have pretty much the same problem. My Mac (7 days old) was working with the Apple TV just fine but tonight it will not do AirPlay nor will Apple TV play home share with the Mac either. Rebooting has no effect. Same error you are getting. When I try to play music (AirPlay) it is weak and intermittent at best and often simply does not play at all.
My ASUS laptop still works just fine as normal so Apple TV seems to be working just fine. Now I am wondering why I spent so much money on the Mac.
