Only prints in color!

When working in powerpoint (for example) there are printing options.  You can choose color, grayscale, or black/white.  I notice that when I choose anything other than color at the very last second when I hit print, it reverts to color.  This printer is just a couple weeks old.  Did not have this problem before.  What up???

I would like to help you with your Envy 4500. I understand that when you select to a print setting other than color, it reverts back to color prior to printing. Is your black cartridge low, maybe this is why the printer is defaulting back to color? What happens if you take the black cartridge out and put it back in? Maybe the printer isn't recognizing the black cartridge and is defaulting to single cartridge mode.
Also, does the issue occur when you print from all programs or just some? What about when you print from an Internet browser? Can you post a list of programs you are experiencing the issue with?

Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.

Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
You can also click the Printer menu to find the additional features such as cleaning printheads, aligning printheads, checking ink levels, and viewing advanced printer data for your selected printer.

    I have researched all over the internet for an answer on how to change the print settings when using an online coupon printer. Nowhere can I find an answer. I have the coupon printer installed on my computer but there is nowhere to change the settings there either.
    My printer settings for my computer are always on grayscale as a default.
    Does anyone know how I can adjust this as I'm getting taken to the bank for the amount of money I'm spending on ink cartridges, slightly defeating the purpose of printing coupons?

    If your printer has the usual options available and prints in color with other applications, I think you will need to contact their support - it seems that this would be a limitation in their software.

  • My f4180 prints in color eventhough I have it set to print in black only.

    I have been using my F4180 for a couple of years now. I have always used HP cartridges. For some reason, it will now only print in color. I installed a new black cartridge and the printer recognizes and that there is ink in the cartridge. When I remove the color cartridge it prints in black just fine, but as soon as I reinstall the color cartridge it prints only in color. I have never changed the printer preferences to anything but black only. I have run the diagnostic and it says everything is just fine, as long as I leave the color cartridge in. Any ideas on what to do?
    Another issue is that in Print Preview all I see is a blank page. It prints fine but shows absolutely nothing in print preview. That is new as well. Any ideas on that?

    Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

    Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.

  • Prints in color even when I check B&W only

    Finally upgraded to Snow Leopard and now my Canon Pixma IP4300 only prints in color even when I check B&W only.

    Someone else posted a similar symptom recently. They also had upgraded to 10.6 and were stating that their Canon printer was not printing in b&W. But the cause to their issue was that they were trying to use a B&W preset that they had created for the previous OS X. That preset was made for a different driver compared to the one they were now using on 10.6. When they actually changed the menu to Quality & Media and selected Grayscale the document did then print in b&w. So then all that was required was for them to delete the older preset and create a new b&w preset using the appropriate settings.
    I wonder if you have a similar scenario because I am printing fine to multiple Canon inkjets in grayscale, so I don't believe it is something you need to report to Canon as has been suggested...

  • My c5180 will print in color but not black and white

    I can't print in black and white with my HP Photosmart C5180 all in one. I put in a new cartage and it still only print in color without black ink. I've tried all the buttons in HP Print and Scan Doctor but I don't know what it is that I should like at. So I can't tell if it fixed it or not. Should any of them have black in it. I've tried uninstall and reinstall the drivers that did not work. When I use HP solution center I used the “align the print head” the box form left to right blue, red, and yellow all are light in color and the four is brown. Can anyone help

    Please perform the below mentioned steps that should resolve the issue.
    Press the SETUP ( Wrench tool ) button, then
    Press TOOLS , then 
    Select CLEAN PRINTHEAD and press OK button.
    You might have to try the above step for 2 -3 times. 
    Check if BLACK is being printed.
    If issue still persists, please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.
    If you are in US , the toll free # is 1-800-474-6836 .
    If you are not in US , then log on to www.hp.com , at bottom-left corner there is a world map icon, click on it and then select the region you belong to, which would then provide support options for you for that region.

    I work at a K-12 school and purchased the HP Color LaserJet Professional CP5225dn Printer (CE712A) for use in our computer lab. I would like to know if it is possible to have it so that only certain users can print in color (possibly put a password on it). I know the cost for color is higher, and therefore, would like it so that students have to approve through teacher if they want to print in color.
    We are running it on our Print Server (networked) not through USB.

    That's a very good question actually. In my corporate networks, we are talking about hundreds of laser printers and the ONLY thing we can do: only allow people access to a set of mono laser printers, not all printers. For example, the following printer is using B&W as default but can't stop users to print in colors if they could access to the resourse:

    Check the printer itself.  Some printers you need to set the color & B&W settings on the printer itself instead of the Mac.   If that is not the case w/your printer, contact HP tech support and/or post in their forums if they have one.

    If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
    #In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.

    Before you think I just haven't tried anything, let me run you down with the whole lot:
    -HP PhotoSmart C4650
    -Windows Vista
    -Problem: My printer won't print in black --but-- this only goes for Microsoft applications it seems. If I have a page of text in black, when printing from MS Word, the page comes out blank, however the printer is actually "printing" back and forth. Issue: Black ink simply doesn't print from any program other than a browser.

    I've done a search and I've found that a few people seem to have this "only print from the internet" problem, however none of these was solved. The only advice that an HP support member gave to one of them is to "install XP service pack 2" however.. I am not running XP.     I don't know much about printers but it sounds like some kind of driver issue. Yes. I've already searched for, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Whenever I have to print something, I now try to open it up in my firefox just so I can be able to print black. It's quite the hassle. Almost seems like some kind of ploy to cause people to buy new ink cartridges when it's not really empty.

    I am having a problem with the office HP Color Laserjet CP3525dn printer.  I am a novice and the tech guy we use is on holidays!  We are using windows 7 with hardwired connection.  The problem is that it is only printing some parts of my documents in colour.  Some documents are being printed completely in B & W!  Any ideas?  Thanks

    I have a problem with my Deskjet 3050 Printer. (USB connected with my laptop).
    My printer won't print colored documents in color but only in black and white (except for JPG files (photos) which are printed in color.
    Word documents or PDF files (for example) are always printed in black and white - even if these are in color.
    Copying colored pages with my printer is no problem.
    This works perfectly well. The printer is connected to my PC via USB.
    The cartridges (color and black and white) are practically new and original HP cartridges.
    Could the problem be related to the printer settings which I might have changed by accident.

    Hi Cheticamp,
    From the control panrl go to Devices and Printers.
    Right click the printer and select Printing Preferences.
    Cluck the Advanced button and ensure that Print in Grayscale is set as off and confirm.
    From Word click on File > Print and click on Settings.
    You will see the dame printing preferences screen.
    Press Advanced and ensure the grayscale optio is set as off for Word as well.

    I have an Epson NX 420. I have set it up to my laptop, and am able to print off of my computer. But when I go to print a document out of pages, even though it says it is in the color mode it only will print out in Black and White. Is there something I should be downloading? I do know that the printer can and does print in color, because everything works perfectly fine on my Windows computer.
