Only scanned photos are corrupted/gone

I've just discovered that most of the photos I've scanned into iPhoto have disappeared, although I still do see the lovely grey "corrupted" box where the pictures used to be. I've checked the Originals folder and the scanned photos are completely gone, not just corrupted. (I had noticed that the thumbnails for the most recently scanned photos starting about a month ago had a blank white line through them, but the line didn't appear when the photo is enlarged or printed.) All other non-scanned photos appear to be there.
Questions:
- Is this possibly a problem with the Lexmark printer/iPhoto? Photos used to scan well - no problems - until they disappeared. The ones that disappeared were 6 months - 2 years old.
- Will rebuilding the iPhoto library help in this case? Is it possible that the photos are still hiding somewhere and will be picked up again, even though I can't see them in the Originals folder?
Coincidentally, the same thing just happened to my parent's computer (version 10.3.8; I'm 10.4.8) which is what sent me looking for my photos. Did something happen in the last software update to mess things up?

Tiggle:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you at version 6.0.5 and, if so, did this start after upgrading to iPhoto 6.0.5? If so you may be experiencing the color profile problem, i.e no color profile or a damaged profile.
So try the following:
1 - download the "Embed sRGB Profile" Automator application from Toad's Cellar.
2 - locate one of the bad files in the iPhoto Library/Originals folder and drop onto the Automator workflow to embed the sRGB profile.
3 - check to see if that file is now viewable in iPhoto.
If that corrects the problem you can repeat the process for each file.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photos are corrupted on iphone.

i recently replaced my iphone.  restore seems to have gone smoothly except that my photo folders are corrupted.  the camera roll and photo stream folders seem ok; all others behave as follows:  i open the folder, select a thumbnail, and the photo that is opened is not the one in the thumbnail.  this happens with all of the photos.

If these photos are in your iPhone's Photo Library, they were transferred from your computer, which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Try deselecting Sync Photos under the Photos tab followed by a sync which will remove all photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your computer. Follow this by reselecting Sync Photos and make your selections below followed by a sync to re-transfer the photos to your iPhone.
If no change after this, the next step is targeting what is called the iPod Photo Cache for these photos on your computer.

If you have emmptied the iPhoto trash then you're going to need a file recovery application like File Salvage

  • HT201317 Got new Apple TV to replace 2nd gen but only new photos are in new one any way to load all 1000 pics onto the stream

    Read above

Don't turn photo stream off on your other devices.  When you do it deletes your photo stream photos and when you turn it back on you will only receive photos added to your photo stream during the last 30 days, as older photos are no longer in iCloud.
Instead, create a shared photo stream on your iPhone that includes the photo stream photos that are not on your other devices and invite yourself as a subscriber (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).  You can then access these photos within the photo stream section of your photo albums.
To save your photo stream photos on your device permanently, save them to your camera roll (tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll).

  • IPhone now displays photo's as grey "JPG" box, but photos are corrupted.

Maybe someone can help me here.
After the update to the 5.1 iOS, my 32GB iPhone 4S is now displaying some pictures in my Camera Roll as grey boxes with "JPG" in the middle. When you select the photo, it brings up a larger version of the grey box showing the "JPG" in the middle.
I've tried to delete the photos and re-sync my phone, but each time - more pictures seem to be showing up like this. Can someone shed some light on this? Or is this a known issue?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :/

    I have a solution.
I had the same problem on my new iPhone 5S (iOS 7.0.3). Some photos are shown only as grey screen with characters "JPG" in center, even though those photos look fine on iPhoto 11 (ver 9.4.3)
It turned out that I had to rebuild the iPhoto Library entirely. To do it, press Command + Option while opening iPhoto and hold them until you see a dialog. The forth choice "Rebuild Database" was the right one for me. After the rebuild, connect iPhone to iTunes and sync the photos. You might have to delete all the photos first to put the fresh copy from the new library.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photos are corrupted!

I am trying to upload photos from my iPod Touch 5 to iPhoto on my Mac. Some of them are corrupted and will not upload. One thing I am being told is that the file is "too large". I'm also being told they are "unreadable". The names for these files are huge and nonsensicle. I am thinking maybe the photos intermingled with each other somehow?
OK... as I am trying to get this to work... some of them are suddenly uploading. This makes no sense! Anyone got any idea what is going on or how to fix this? Is my camera just plain broken??

  • Raw photos are corrupted on import

some of my raw photos are coming in completely corrupted
the original files in aperture are fine and have a backup elsewhere but am wondering if there's anything that can be done to prevent the problem?

There are so many possible problems here, that we'll need much more information.
    1. What camera? What file type? Is the camera fully supported?
    2. How are you importing? Direct from the Camera? Via a USB Card Reader?
    3. What's the nature of the corruption? What's the difference between the corruption in Aperture and the problem in iPhoto?
Any more info you can add will help.

  • Mac Mail- all incoming photos are corrupted- but only on my MBP, not my iphone. Any ideas?

    Hi,
My Mac Mail is driving me bonkers!
For the last week or so, it's been extremely erratic on my Macbook Pro (seems fine on my phone). First it dumped all of my sent messages- then it gradually loaded them all up again, over the course of a couple of hours.
Then it dumped three year's worth of messages from my inbox, slowly adding them back in again over the next couple of days (this still seems to be happening in some form or other in that my mail activity frequently tells me that 800 emails (for example) are downloading.
Most irritating of all, I can't receive any images without them being corrupted. They're fine on my phone- this is definitely a MBP only problem.
I've not changed anything recently- and my phone is still running iOS 6.1.3
    Any ideas?

I switched around 9 years ago. Second Mac, first problem I've ever really had in all that time. It dumped another 30,000 emails this morning- including ones that I need to work with right now. Still receiving garbled images.
Went to schedule a call with Apple- see if they can shed any light on it. Going to get back to me in 6 days. Brilliant.
It's just not good enough. This isn't what I'm paying for.

  • How do I return my iPhone 4 back to the way it was after I accidentally backed it up with my old iPod's information, and now all my contacts, messages, and photos are all gone?

So I went to plug my iPhone into my computer, automatically pulling up iTunes/iTunes Store. I notice that the computer isn't recognizing my iPhone, so I look at my phone and see that it is asking me if I want to trust this computer so I click yes. Then on the computer on iTunes it asks me if I want to save it as a new device (which I should've done) or save it as a previous device (and showed the names of other devices) and I picked the save as previous device under my old iPod, thinking that it would just save it and not mess with anything (mind you, I have never backed this iPhone up before)... So I wait for it to finish saving, and when it is I realize my phone looks nothing the same as it was when it was my iPhone a few minutes ago (except all the apps I hade downloaded unto the actual iPhone) and now looked like my old iPod. It deleted all of my contacts (except ones synced from Facebook), photos (but had all the photos from my old iPod), and deleted every message I had had with someone. I know I made a mistake, and I honestly don't know if this is something that can even be fixed... But I need to at least try.! So if someone could help, I would appreciate you a lot!

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • Scanned photos are not in proper date order

I have photos that I am scanning & importing into iPhoto6, but iPhoto sorts them by import date. I want them to be sorted by modified date (I think). I have read on this forum similar problems & solutions, but as yet cannot seem to find a solution that works properly. First I downloaded Miana & exported the photos I wanted to change & ran them through Miana. That changed the date to what I wanted, but when I re-imported them back into iPhoto6 the import date changed to today & that is how they are sorted even though the modified date is the date that I set in Miana so the end result in iPhoto is what I started with. Then I downloaded Joe's iPhoto Applescripts & ran it against the photos, while it seems to do something to some date (the photo changes position in the thumbnails), when doing a get info on the photo the Modified & Import dates have not changed & the Original & Digitized Dates are still blank. I other words some date (that I cannot see in Get Info) seems to be changing & reordering the photo but this is a blind operation so I really do not know what the resulting date is or for that matter what date actually changed.

    Lee:
You can change the date of either the individual photos and/or the rolls by selecting then and going to the info section at the bottom of the Source pane. Just as you can change the title, you can change the date.

  • Halfway through downloading photos my computer died and now my photos are all gone, what do I do?

I found all of my photos on my hard drive but when I attempt to import them to iPhoto it says unreadable files.

What do you mean your computer died?  Did the hard drive fail?  Did you just run out of battery? What? Your best solution for either scenario would be to restore you backup copy of the library made just before the problem happened.
Otherwise if it was just a battery that ran out of juice try the following:
make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If the hard drive failed then you will definitely need to have a backup copy to recover your photos.

  • IPhoto 6 library, folders, slideshows, over 8000 photos are all gone,

I shutoff my computer. The next morning upon booting up, iPhoto 6 was missing. I could find the libaries by years in my document folder, but I want my folders and slideshows, too. That is step one for organizing and in using my integrated program. I had several chapters ready to import into iMovie. I hate to start from scratch if I don't have to. I tried use restore in my Time Machine. It didn't work either. I received an error message -10657. Does anyone have a recovery solution and/or a notion as to what caused this to happen?

    1) Yes, I still have the program, iPhoto 6.0.6 on my computer; it's just empty.
Sounds like a damaged database file:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Thanks for the solution. I had to go to the "if all else fails" scenario, and I can rebuild my folders. I appreciate your help more than I can say!

  • After updating iOS 6 in my iPod Touch 4th Gen, my Synced photos from computer are all gone. The remaining pictures are only in the Camera Roll. HELP THANKS :)

Hello! I updated my itouch 4g with iOS 6 using iTunes at Windows 7. After updating, my musics and videos are still there but my synced photos from the computer are lost. The only remaining photos are from the Camera Roll. I lost 4000 photos. What will I do to restore them? Thanks for thise who will help :)

You need to obtain the synced photos from where you obtained them the first time. Synced media like apps, music and synced photos are not included in the backup that iTunes makes as the first step of an update or restore.
